241  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 04, 2014, 02:59:55 PM
Oh well price will obviously fall. Price will obviously come back. The time frame that this will happen is unclear. One things is sure. Panic sellers and panic buyers will lose...

I believe that MP and the XMR markets on Poloniex have operated continuously with no substantive price movement.  The moonshot may resume uninterrupted.

I think the XMR markets on Polo were/are actually stealth-frozen. Although nothing shows on the exchange page, I tried to put an order in, and it told me the market was frozen.
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: September 04, 2014, 02:40:27 PM
Great news on the fix Dev's. I see my main mining pool has just resumed payments, but Polo is still frozen. A few questions:

1) Will the fix require a new build for everyone?
2) I think someone (smooth or fluffy) said the Windows blockchain download hadn't been checked yet a few hours ago. Is it safe to download the new Windows chain yet?
3) Any other guidance on what to do to get going again?

Thanks,
Q

@acha - it's gone flat... almost like it's frozen. Oh wait!  Wink

@Nekomata - No need for paranoia. Both BBR and XMR were up overnight (I'm on European time), and down this morning since the attack came to light.

My gut! This will be MOON (with capital letters) for boolberry!

Monero devs should act as fast as possible.

Zoidberg admitted to having the same weakness in Boolberry.

you forgot to mention the part where he says he can mitigate an attack because it takes so long and that a solution has already be thought of.

CZ didn't say he has a solution. He said he could implement a workaround:

Quote from: crypto_zoidberg
Bad news is that Boolbery also have this flaw. (Like every Cryptonote).
Good news - that this attack need pretty long period of preparation, because to achive big amount of transactions per block attackers need to move median, it's a day or more. That means that even if i see that attack is starting i have enought time to update network with workaround rule, that won't let grow transactions count per block too much to fail.

I think most of the FUD'ers are desperately seeking cheap XMR  Cheesy

Are you sure? Or are you afraid?

LoL. I'm not afraid. I'm not selling any at this price, but I'll happily buy more if it dips to 0.0035. What's your plan?

Im embarrased right now to own a lot of Monero. The Monero fanbois are such douchbags right now when it comes to BBR.  Oh, yeah, BBR MUST have the same vunerabilities. Dudes need to worry about their own house and stop talking about BBR.
i think that the devs will be far more interested in collaborating on this and finding the problem with XMR than pointing fingers or claiming their brand is best.

The fact that JL777 contacted CZ and CZ is willing to help says ALOT about both of them. I have my doubts, however, that if the situation was reversed, that the favor would be turned.

Really? I haven't seen CZ on the BBR thread yet (I'm a BBR and XMR holder). The FUD seems strong in this post.

Thank you James!

BBR's brother needs help ASAP
Somehow a corrupted block was put into their blockchain

CZ, I know you are busy making BBR even better, but if you can help XMR figure out what happened, it is the right thing to do. This sort of thing doesnt help any crypto and when family is in the hospital we should do whatever we can to help

There is a chance this is a genetic defect.

James

Good to see this attitude James. I'm holding XMR and BBR and there's no need for a feud between the two.  Smiley

Also, I dont even know who the actual devs of XMR are, while zoidberg has always been quite helpful and was helping me
If the hostilities against BBR stop and it is allowed to grow naturally, then I will be open to working with XMR.

James

Hi James.
To be fair, the XMR core team are listed as follows in the opening post of the XMR thread:
Who are you?
See Monero Missives #1: "(in no particular order) - tacotime, eizh, smooth, fluffypony, othe, davidlatapie, NoodleDoodle

Core team member smooth posted this comment yesterday:
"We have gone out of our way to support third party developers. Not everything good is going to come from the core team, not now or ever."

without being in any way disrespectful to you - but do you really think that xmr keeps bbr artificially low? - it does not make sense, even the core developers are supporting bbr as a reasonable hedge for xmr. I would guess that at least half of the xmr investors have also stakes in bbr.

Yep, I'm in that camp. Not a developer, just an investor.

BBR/XMR market is up on Poloniex now. Just FYI.

Edit: Ah, realise Nekomata got there first. Missed that somehow.

I think "Rings" is a GREAT name.

I can't believe no cryptonote coins choose it ! It's rings signature for christ sake!

Bool Ring or Boolring might be better. Adaptation of the current name, but with the ring signature hint. Also, sounds like bullring for newbie curiosity.

Now off the charts in coinmarketcap  Roll Eyes

It's on the second page, which isn't great for publicity/awareness but is great for loading up on cheeeeeap BBR. Bagged another 10k this morning. Smiley

As of now, is Monero a better coin?

from a technical view point both coins have their merits, i like both

A bit off topic but +1 from me. I'm holding 5 figures of each.

Man, if it's really true - you better to support coin with some real help - that make your chances to earn much higher! Smiley

Essentially, we need some investment for pr and promotion spendings.

It's true enough Zoidberg (though I realize as newbie who isn't an established bitcoin whale I have little cred here). I'm committed but not rich by any stretch of the imagination; that investment represents a significant chunk of my savings. XMR and BBR are the only coins I have invested in - sleeping giants.

hello guys, i am looking for a financial advice.

i got most of my crypto money inside xmr. normaly its not a problem, since i watch everything that is going on very closely and can react immediately.
but now, i will be on holiday for like 3 weeks, what do you recomend me to do?

-just let it run?
-have a stop-Limit? (where?)
-put everything for sell at 0.01, enjoy the beach and see what happens?
-sell some now (put new buy orders around 0.004) and let the rest run?

i am mostly into profit, bought most between 0.0025 and 0.0035, some at 0.0055.

thx

Hi. IMHO, 3 Weeks is nothing. I'm comfortable hodling XMR for a couple of years from now. If it dips, it'll rise again. :-)

Below is an example of a typical Rias FUD post. I will stop feeding the troll now.

[snip]

Thanks to the XMR devs the payments are order of magnitude faster at losing user's money. So lol.

I'm being trolled by 2 sock puppet accounts, how nice.

Quicken - Newbie - Activity: 21
Brad_BCK - Newbie - Activity: 28

I do think that XMR team does marvellous job on promoting Monero. I do respect the core team.
However, I raise crucial questions (and if we take e.g. botnet issue it should have bothered you too, if you were a real user). And I really don't like it when people brag too much.

If that is what's required to be make it to the first post of XMR thread, it will be a great honor.

LoL. Who's bragging?

I'm just an independent investor and I have placed a good chunk of savings in XMR as a medium/long term investment. The reason? I think the base technology, fair emission system, community, and development team warrant that investment. I am also mining XMR in my own modest way.

Yes, I haven't posted much here because firstly XMR was the first Cryptocurrency I decided to invest in, second I have only been here 6 weeks and 3rd I spend more time reading than posting as I am still learning. Most of my posts are questions. However, I do read every post.

My Fudder/Troll list is based on complete lack of constructive input to the thread. Congratulations for making it on there.

Then why not to create a list and not to place it on the main page?  Roll Eyes

Perhaps because I don't have any control over the main page.  Roll Eyes
