The only issue here is inflation.
Stop or massively slow the mining.

If you do that it would be called instamine, and new investors would be scared away. Reducing mining rewards doesn't help at all, look at maxcoin as example.

As of now, is Monero a better coin?

from a technical view point both coins have their merits, i like both

A bit off topic but +1 from me. I'm holding 5 figures of each.

Man, if it's really true - you better to support coin with some real help - that make your chances to earn much higher! Smiley

Essentially, we need some investment for pr and promotion spendings.

Oh no, now fudsters will have another theme to talk about why BBR is so much worse than XMR.  Cheesy

20k daily inflation above 0.004 is hard to absorb for extended period of time even for whales and it's followers. I am sorry that they're bashing BBR along, they don't understand that competition breeds inovation and they act at their own peril.

Both XMR and BBR should be viewed as long-term, high risk .. you could call them investments or gambles, depending on your point of view.  They're interesting because they *do* have some serious potential as the first real independent codebase from Bitcoin and with something fundamentally different to offer.  But they're both very early projects with a lot of real work needed to be done before they'll start to have non-trivial use outside of speculation.  I think it's silly at this point to worry about them competing with each other, when the real long-term is "cryptonote vs bitcoin derivatives that claim better anonymity."

Realistically, I think there's only one major risk associated with the ups and downs of either BBR or XMR's price -- the risk that the dev teams will get disheartened or not see enough upside in it to continue to devote work to it.  I love BBR's 1% built in dev fee, because it delivers an ongoing revenue stream instead of providing an incentive to dump and run, but it does mean that the dev income is proportional to the price.  Practically speaking, of course, dev donations in XMR probably have a similar relationship empirically.

While I don't think we've seen this problem much yet, Zoidberg & btc-mike, if you find yourselves unable to do as much as you want for the coin because of lack of funds, I'll happily donate some back in the hope that you can use it well to increase the value of my remaining holdings.  I bet there are others who feel the same way.

Every coin with mining has inflation and the problem is that none of these new coins (including BBR, XMR, and virtually every single other altcoin if not all of them) has absolutely no use outside speculation so no population of natural buyers. The miners can either hold (i.e. speculation) or sell, but who are they going to sell to? Only other speculators.

Comments about "too much inflation" and miners "dumping" such are missing the mark. As long as there is mining in any amount whatsoever and as long as there are miners who are not full-out speculators who want to hold all of their coins forever, there are natural sellers (miners) and no natural buyers. That imbalance will cause the price to tend to go down unless speculators want to buy enough to push it up, or at least hold it up.

It's true enough Zoidberg (though I realize as newbie who isn't an established bitcoin whale I have little cred here). I'm committed but not rich by any stretch of the imagination; that investment represents a significant chunk of my savings. XMR and BBR are the only coins I have invested in - sleeping giants.

I'm new in this thread, but I have been watching and investing in Monero for several months.

Now that I have studied Boolberry a bit, I am puzzled as to why the price of BBR is less than a tenth the price of XMR. There are actually a couple of features of BBR that I think have advantages over XMR. It seem to me that the prices probably should be closer to parity.

I guess it is a bit weird to ask this here, but is there something I'm missing that has led to this big price difference?

I might buy some BBR if I can wrap my wits around this discrepancy.

We are not disheartened.

When i just launched this project i was very surprised to see that so much people was involved into mining - and i said that people have to realize all risks while investing their own money in it: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=577267.msg6786656#msg6786656

After that, few days later i saw trading coins in thread and i figure out that people actually don't care about risks.

After all i want to say that this project is not working for speculator's sake.

We trying to make something new, something different - this implies a lot of work before getting real results.

There is no tangible reason for such a disparity. It's largely a case of marketing and perception. (dare i say some misperception and intentional misrepresentation)

Once you have liquidity you can cruise in auto-pilot for a while. If there is no liquidity and large spread there will be no buyers and the coin 'dies' in the eye of the market onto the next vehicle. It's crucial to build up some volume before that happens otherwise it's usually a freefall.

As for my point of view there are reasons:
1. we have a lack of marketing compared with Monero
2. our coin was hurt much by cbuchner/pttx private GPU miner(now we have open source GPU, it was released just more than week ago)

and yes, Monero was launched first and after "revolution" it was lead by people who is well known here in bitcointalk, unlike crypto_zoidberg who was undoubtedly new person here Wink

imho
