241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Hal Finney wins award for his contribution to Bitcoin development! on: April 23, 2024, 05:03:01 PM
Laszlo certainly has its place in BTC history, but that event took place in 2010, and Hal was awarded for that period. Gavin is also one of the candidates, but it's no secret that I personally wouldn't give him the award for several reasons - one is precisely that he went where he shouldn't have, and he himself admitted that he might have scared Satoshi that way. The second thing that disqualifies him in my opinion is that at one point he gave support to CW Faketoshi claiming that he is the real Satoshi.
Wow I never knew Gavin once supported CW, which I would say was more disappointing than the first.

Quote
Also, the @theymos explorer is from 2010, and the next three awards will be given to people for their contributions in the period 2012-2024. I think that the winners in that period should be looked for in those who had a key role in the development of SegWit and Lightning Network, and maybe those who stood up to CW Faketoshi, like @Hodlonaut.
I was thinking of Wei Dai: The creator of B money, bitcoin predecessor https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/B-money but I think with your reason here, others will be considered and the developers of the SegWit
Though I don't think the LN dev will be given this award since it's not actual solution to the Bitcoin scalability issues while Pieter Wuille may probably get this award his contribution to the development of the Segwit address. While Hodlonaut definitely deserves it for his fight for the truth.
Also I think an this award should also go to El Salvador or top influencer in making bitcoin a legal tender there, since they are the first country for doing so.

HRF allocated a total of 33 BTC, of which 1 BTC will go to Hal
I am curious when reading this and want to know how HRF distribute this prize. No surprise that they do a right thing by sending it (or planning to send it) to Hals' wife, Fran Finney, and it is also good to know the widow plans to donate it to a charity.

Quote
Fran Finney, his widow, will accept the inaugural Finney Freedom Prize on Hal’s behalf and plans to donate the monetary prize of 1 bitcoin (BTC) to a yet-unnamed charity.
Hal Finney wife is just as wonderful as her husband, God bless her and their family
242  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Another health benefit of online gambling on: April 23, 2024, 02:37:54 PM
In my personal opinion, the benefit of online gambling for our health is that we can learn to hone our brains and skills so that they develop further by being shown or exposed to various kinds of online gambling, of course we will try to carry it out little by little so that we will gain knowledge by ourselves. and by gambling online for our health, we just sit quietly or relax on the bed playing online gambling of our choice and we don't directly face or meet other gamblers whose health is still in doubt.

You're right, and it was strange for me to read that this guy, who had a lung disease, did not decide to take care of himself and switch completely to an online casino. I understand that this is a matter of everyone's taste, and physical casinos have their own charm.
For some, going there is a whole holiday: flashing lights, polite staff - it attracts to physical casinos and you want to come and play.
But online casinos have great advantages: to sit comfortably with a cup of coffee in an armchair and play gambling.
To be frank I have never visit any physical gambling shop and I don't see myself going there ever to gamble, I just don't vibe those places, I just enjoy gambling online testing various platforms of my choice when I feel like, though I still have one or two I love best. There are so many benefits of online gambling platform which I can say to me outweigh the physical casino but those who prefer to use physical casino knows why they still just prefer it to the online but I guessed it may be because that was were they started gambling or made most wins.

I have told him to focus on online gambling but he told me that he is more entertained in physical bet shops.
I hope you told him that some online gambling platform has a chat group were users can  interact with each other which makes it fun and entertaining like the physical bet shops
243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin is fungible? on: April 23, 2024, 12:58:18 PM
Snip
Just like how it is impossible to filter out tainted fiat currency then it should be similar to bitcoin since we have mixers and other means of making bitcoin transactions more anonymous and It's just hypocrisy seeing some coins flag while in the blockchain they are all the same because this makes bitcoin Fungible as a currency

A similar situation is that I as an individual may choose not to accept my local fiat maybe cause how old it looks but when taken to the bank it will definitely be accepted.

We don't always have to know who once used our fiat currency or what they did to get it before we can use it which should be a similar situation in Bitcoin.

The forum has allowed millions of dollars in signature income to be earned.
The income went down and the signatures went down.
Not very complicated .  Just look and see how may posts went to altcoinstalks.com.  Their post grew a lot. in the last 4 months.

It's true that some members (including me) became active on another forum, but that doesn't mean we stopped being active here. My number of posts on BTT mostly remained the same, and as far as I can see, most of those who are active on other forum are also active here. In addition, the number of active sig campaigns on other forum is far less than BTT.
Yes this is true and while there are also members here who have moved to altcoinstalks and still yet are able to keep up to their posts counts here just like before, we can also agree that some have not been able to do the same.

Though they probably may be having many more registered accounts sooner or later than BTT as the traffic there grows since it's much easier to rank up there and also getting reputation because the forum is still growing, which is an advantage for getting picked in a campaign. Also as the traffic grows the pay will likely increase aside from the fact that mixers campaign pays more than any other campaigns while altcoinstalks is not just limited to mixers campaign, others  will definitely come and try.
248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How much did it cost to mine 1 Bitcoin back in 2009? on: April 23, 2024, 09:39:41 AM
If you mean the entire cost of becoming a miner in 2009 then it was really cheap at that time since the Computational power (difficulty) was alot lower than this especially from the fact that we could mine a block with our PC which uses only CPU but as the difficulty increases, computers having GPU was uses before now that we are currently using Asic machines, while the cost of electricity also increases with this different machines/computers

Also you should note that you can't singly mine 1btc, at that time the reward for mining a block was 50 btc but currently after the 4th halving which happened this year on April 20th, the mining reward is 3.125 btc.
Bitcoin halving occur approximately after every 210,000 blocks as been mined which is currently like every 4 years
249  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2023/2024 on: April 22, 2024, 09:53:55 PM
United board seems to be giving Erik ten Heg thumbs up for messing up the pride of Man UTD, things we hardly see happening with the past managers is what we're seeing with the current coach of Manchester United. To me I think Erik ten Heg has everything he needs like he has been given the "go ahead" order to do what ever he pleases, if he wants to get any players the board supports him but in the case of Jose Mourinho for example, I think this opportunity wasn't given to him to hold the team together and I believe Mourinho would have done better than ETH.
When Mourinho wanted to add some discipline to the team it seems like they were all against him, they don't like his pattern. If they gave J. Mourinho the green light they're giving ETH I believe Manchester United would have been better then they are now, but is a shame they that they gave the wrong man the opportunity they should have given to the right man, even Ole Gunnar Solskjær would have done better if such support was given to him.
Maybe the United board woke up one day and realized that team stability is more important and they have to go back to the roots? I mean they probably think ETH can produce results if they give him ample time like what they gave to SAF. Perhaps they also want to emulate Arsenal's approach with Arteta.
Soon it will be crystal clear that Arsenal waste their time waiting for Arteta, since last season until now they have been on their best form but still yet nothing to show for it, their inconsistency is still a huge flaw.

Ten Hag may be better but I think he is overhype and probably his time will soon be over at Manchester united probably except he comes out victorious over City in the FA cup final which is unlikely but I can't disrupt the fact that they can actually win the game since City has not really been doing well in comparison to their past seasons.

I would bet on Manchester City, but I think 9 out of 10 people would do the same. The game against Tottenham will be the toughest for City this season. The last time they played was in the FA Cup and City won that 1-0. Before that in december 2023 a 3-3 draw, so it will be very exciting. In 3 days City play vs Brighton & Hove Albion and that should be an easy win and then they would be back on first place in the league. Unfortunately City are out of the champions league, but that was a close game and real madrid had more luck.

I will blindly vote for Manchester City with their current situation, we need this trophy than more than ever for the players to stand a chance in many personal trophies like golden booth, Balon D'or especially now that they have lost the Champions League race, they have a slim chance of making it for any of the player on Manchester City to win it. The chance is low but perhaps if they win the FA cup and win the Champions League, they might reconsider some of them.
City will probably win the league, more likely though but about individuals awards I don't think city players will stand a chance to get the Balon D'or since the only player who would have a better chance of winning it was usually on sidelined because of injury and that was KDB, though other players including him may win individual awards in the domestic league but I don't really know about the champions league.
250  Local / Portugal / Re: Bitcoin segwit on: April 22, 2024, 07:54:06 PM
And I never heard of any Bitcoin wallet that doesn't accept BTC from a segwit address you should be able to receive it from any wallet.
Also, take note of the current network this is not a good time to make a transaction because the transaction fee is very expensive due to network congestion.
Since segwit address is backward compatible this shouldn't be an issue but base on the image Op shared, he/she is trying to import a segwit address different from the native address where as trust wallet only use Native SegWit.

It will be better if Op, import his/her seed phrase on electrum wallet just like promise444c5 said earlier which do allow changing of bitcoin address to other version.

Also Op I can see you're Portuguese and there's a local board here for it, feel free to ask questions and participate in discussion there,  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=29.0
251  Economy / Reputation / Re: Resurrection of old accounts on: April 22, 2024, 05:56:08 PM
I support this especially when the account was bought and it's shocking how some people are so thick skinned to come and speak of it, when it literally known that the forum  frowned about such acts.

Also I think that you may just observe the account till your specific time, in order to know if such users have actually before removing the tag or simply turn it to neutral tag though depending on the offense of such member but this chance should be given to those accounts that hasn't changed hands.
252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: With fees no longer compensating are some miners shuting down? on: April 22, 2024, 03:14:32 PM
What will happen to the confirmation if 10% of the mines will quit, blocks for next period being slower, so fees will be higher again, would that trigger a return and then again a shut down?
How long could this game keep going?
Since the hashrate will reduce when this happens, the difficulty of mining a block will also reduce, since the difficulty is updated approximately every 2 weeks (2,016 blocks), so this is not something to really bother about.
253  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: April 22, 2024, 04:56:52 AM
This is my first post at WO, after my first halving, Thank God for life  Grin
Now for the big question
When is the dip coming
**
My colleague and I were really excited that we're going to buy the dip but now what we see sadden us while the sudden rise in fee is discouraging though it's getting better probably before the end of the day it will be normal

**I brought your seemingly retarded BIG down to a more reasonable and readable size.

You sound retarded to have had been waiting for a dip that might not happen, including maybe learning a lesson that it is better to be buying dee cornz regularly and constantly, especially if you are fairly new to bitcoin and/or you already have assessed that you don't have enough bitcoin.

According to your forum registration date, you already have nearly a year and a half in bitcoin, but yeah, you probably made the mistake of not buying aggressively, so you ONLY recently realized that you should have had been buying that whole time, and so now you are trying to be smart about it.. which also probably is not even the right thing to be doing for either no coiners and/or low coiners, and unless you front loaded your investment into BTC in the last year and a half, you are probably at minimum a low coiner.. which means you probably should be buying for the next 4 years and not be fucking around with figuring out if there might be a dip.. especially in these kinds of prices... now if we get up to $200k by this year or maybe $400k by next year, then maybe I will give you a bit of a break, even though probably as a newbie you should just be buying regularly and stop fucking around trying to act like you know which way the price is going to go, when you surely don't seem to have a clue, especially from the contents of your post.

So yeah, it is dumb to presume down and/or to prepare for ONLY 1 price direction, especially when there has already been 20% down from the ATH, so why would expect that MOAR down has to come..

yeah, sure more down might come, but it is not even close to having high chances of happening... and then tell us, how far are you hoping for? rather than just buying regularly?
I was pretty dumb believing in this just realized it now, now all that matters is just for me to continue accumulating no matter any special events especially from the fact that this year halving is different from the others, I will work to make my DCA and hit my own bitcoin holding goal.
254  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Don't be confused, bitcoin halving doesn't translate into bitcoin All time high on: April 22, 2024, 04:46:55 AM
Current fees are so high that the effect of halving has not yet appeared. In the last 200 blocks, the average subsidy + fees per block was about 4-6 bitcoins, while in the past it was 7-8 bitcoins.

I think we need to wait until mempool dump and fees decreases to start saying that Bitcoin halving has started and then we have to wait several months to see its actual effect.
Aside this fact this year halving is different from the previous halving since it a new ATH even before the halving and normally we do expect a bear before the bull but it was a different case because the bull this year is really too strong, since people sentiment is still positive.

Though I will advise leverage traders to avoid this since the market probably can go side ways and we heard news about how much was liquidated during the recent dip
255  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🚀 Dive Into Bitwinup: The Ultimate Crypto Trading Arena is Here! 🎲 on: April 21, 2024, 10:58:45 PM
I like the major edge of this web3 platform is that they don't require KYC.

Yes, they don't everything here is automatic and contract-based as long as the contract is audited it's all good, .

USDT and other stablecoins are much popular currencies for gambling purposes while Bitcoin normally use for long term holding.
Especially in times like this USDT and altcoins take the attention, there was a thread in the gambling discussion about what gamblers use when transaction fees are high or the price is moving up and the majority voted for USDT.
Would really be that understandable that there should really be an alternative specially on sudden spikes when it comes to Bitcoin fees on which this is something that should be considered.
People would really be normally be switching up into those alternatives on the time that they cant afford on paying up those huge fees.
This platform main coin for making prediction is Matic while it offers a way of converting your coins to matic through changelly in order to vote, the coins you can convert to your Matic Is stated there while they are many and popular

Quote
I have seen that Bitwinup signature had been stopped, dont know if they do completely have that trial period and seeing if there's a significant sign ups or players or
totally not really getting that much attention? Usually this kind or type of gambling doesnt really get that much attraction.
it's only pause now, since they want check to the amount of traffic it brought.
Though platform offering such game may not be getting much attention but with time and continuous marketing like signature campaign BITWINUP will get much traffic since anyone interested in that game who will play with them will love to continue
256  Local / Politics and society (Naija) / Re: People scared to Invest online because of the failures of Ponzi schemes on: April 21, 2024, 09:32:27 PM
Alot of Nigerians suffered from that MMM but after it crashes many others came even did worst like racksterli and 86FB, there was a popular one last year cstcmine, were alot of Nigerians lost alot of money including their some of their admin who never knew it was a scam, since they thought they were mining the platform cryptocurrency but it was just another ponzi scheme. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5450175.msg62320338#msg62320338

I know these kind of experience has discourage alot of Nigerians to invest in Bitcoin or even cryptocurrency as a whole or do any online business but some have been to come out of it, since they now know/see the reason why is good to invest in Bitcoin and also avoid ponzi schemes, scam coins and token including knowing how to keep their coins save.

Though many are still living in fear but with time they will know better about these scams and true investment like bitcoin.

A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution.
https://bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf

If blocks are only filled by 10%, 20% or 30% with P2P online payments of digital cash, then something has seriously gone wrong. I have no problem with a free and competing fees market. That's how it's supposed to be. If you are willing to pay more than me to make an online P2P payment of electronic cash, then all the power to you my brother. I will have to wait my turn or reach deeper inside my own pockets to offer a competitive fee rate. What I don't believe anyone should have to do is to compete with spammers who are not making P2P online payments with electronic cash, and are taking away many of the features that normal people love. With those, I mean a cheap, fast, and borderless way of sending payments in any amounts you want.
The Ordinals is something that I didn't expect to be on the Bitcoin Network till but now Rune as been added, while others may claim everyone has freedom on how they choose to spend their Bitcoin/Sat and when you try to remind them that this was not what is written on the Bitcoin whitepaper they respond with Bitcoin is now bigger than Satoshi but I wonder how they justify this when others suffer from this fate, bitcoiners are depending on Altcoins for making payments.

Anyway if the dev still decides to let the spam continues, it doesn't matter after all we have been on this issue since last year and nothing have really be done. Though I don't really know much but one thing I can say is that these should be scrap out of the Bitcoin Network.

Bitcoin being only use as a means of payment and been great for years while if anyone think Bitcoin needs to expand then, why don't they, make Bitcoin usable for everything Ethereum and other altcoins are being used for since they fail to see how it is feasible on the Bitcoin Network.

Keep praying for your team caused by they are now under pressuer. This is what i have called that as snowball effect that happened to your favorite team and liverpool. They are starting to bottle jobs any game.
It means they missed opportunity to win the trophy. arsenal or liverpool have ever lead the competition. it's time for city to take the trophy.
People who believe Arsenal will win is the Gunners Tongue that's why he's really support Arsenal.

But for someone who can evaluate and measure every teams objectively will say Manchester City will become the champion. Manchester City didn't qualify to semi final in Champions League because they're unlucky, they shots 33 times. While Arsenal didn't qualify due to their poor performance.
Actually I never saw them as a title contender until they started acting consistent earlier this year and then Liverpool were becoming more disappointing but now it's clear Arsenal are still not ready to win the league while Liverpool should be ashamed of themselves now because we can't even compare them to city again. City and Pep are above every other EPL team with a huge gap.

The remaining matches in the championship race are as below:

The updated points are:

1. Manchester City: 73 points
2. Arsenal: 71 points
3. Liverpool: 71 points

Even though Manchester City are going to have most of their matches left away I think they have the most comfortable fixture. This makes me think that it will be really difficult to prevent them from being the champions.  Sad  Still I hope that this race continues until the last moments. Seeing all 3 teams still in the race would be great and I would place a bet on one of them to make it more thrilling to follow.  Grin
It's already over for Arsenal while it will take a miracle for Liverpool to win the league now since Man city has a less difficult games than the others and also they are really consistent especially during this period of This season and so I guessed we can say that they already won the league
260  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Blockchain Token and Paying to turn it into a REFINED COIN?? on: April 20, 2024, 12:34:43 PM
I am guessing he now has some back door into my wallet and if I were to deposit that $5k, it would automatically be sent to his wallet. I am broke and don't have $5k anyway and I am not going to do it. I don't feel like losing more money since I have lost everything and now am filing for bankruptcy as the banks are holding me accountable for the reversed funds and there's no way I can pay it back.
I don't think the scammers as a back door to your wallet rather just like Husires said earlier, he will definitely scammed you of the $5k through this since this type of scam is called honey pot scam. Here he has already lured you with the $100k in the wallets but if you try to transfer such coin the $5k or any other amount you use will go to him, which  automatically occur through a smart contract call when he created such coin

Quote
What do I do? Is there any validity to the $5k to turn a $100k token into a refined coin? How do I find out if he has a backdoor into my wallet and in turn close it? IF YOU READ ALL OF THIS I DO APPRECIATE YOU AND ANY HELP/ADVICE YOU MAY BE ABLE TO PROVIDE.
Don't even try sending it to him, I have never heard anything like refined coin but I guessed he only said that to you because he thinks he can still fool again you after the first scam.
