242  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: February 18, 2014, 01:51:52 PM
I haven’t watched volume on multiple exchanges but there can't be much trade on the other floors if price action is so low?

MtGOX's volume was falling relative to other non-Chinese exchanges, and it had already lost its first place among them.  As you can see from the tables that I have been posting, after they locked their exit doors their trade volume paradoxically exploded, from ~15 kBTC/day to ˜100 kBTC on certain days.  Who knows how much of that is legitmate and how much is generated by the exchange itself.

In the next 48h beside volume, price will explode upward too. I don't think that whoever can will skip the opportunity to buy BTC at this exchange rate, so as bank wires slowly arrive to Gox we will see price go up until Thursday. After that I don't know what will happen, depends on Gox announcement.

245  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Mr. Gox playing like the cat with the mouse ? on: February 17, 2014, 06:34:33 PM
I'm more fascinated by Gox users, they don't see forest for the trees, they are more fascinated by small gains and risk to loose much more. All of them think that they are the one who will buy at the bottom... When the time comes it will be like $300 (2 second passes) $900 and big bunch of people who stays in shock or get some kind of ulcer.

Should BTC withdrawals work again now according the IRC announcement?

Not.

So which 3:15 was meant? 3:15am? Which day?

This is what I am referring to: http://pastebin.com/d7Lf3sJg

It was related to on re-enabling all bitcoin deposits and internal bitcoin transfers on Gox.

Willy is dead, these are his last twitches, his battle was lost at the moment of his buggy creation, because he was programmed to swim against the tide.

252  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp BTC withdrawals are once again fully automated on: February 15, 2014, 10:18:00 AM
Big relief. Atleast they are keeping their shit together if gox just keeps staying gox. Hopefully we are looking for a trend change in some time.

Yes, I agree, big relief.

Now we know for sure that:

1. Bitstamp didn't lost our BTC
2. Bitstamp BTC price is the real price (real price determined by people who are in position to deposit and withdraw freely)
3. Urban dictionary is telling the truth: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=goxed
253  Economy / Speculation / Bitstamp BTC withdrawals are once again fully automated on: February 15, 2014, 08:42:05 AM

Dear Bitstamp clients,

After rigorous testing, we have restored fully automated processing for Bitcoin withdrawals.

Unforeseen incidents like this DoS attack against an edge case in the Bitcoin protocol are to be expected with such a young technology. The core protocol remains sound and the world has seen how these incidents are addressed by the Bitcoin community. Every challenge that is successfully overcome is a milestone that allows the world to grow their confidence in Bitcoin.

We recognize that for many of clients the inability to make withdrawals may have been stressful and we are thankful for your patience and understanding.

Best regards,

The Bitstamp team

254  Economy / Speculation / Re: Transaction malleability problem on: February 14, 2014, 11:00:08 AM
There are no btc missing, except from Gox because of their crappy software that was easily fooled using transaction malleability.

I don't think that Gox is the only one who was fooled by transaction malleability, read the latest Bitstamp announcement:
Quote
Bitstamp, with help from the Bitcoin core developers, has implemented a solution that passes our preliminary tests and audits.

Why would they apply the fix, if their software was good?

Exchanges should address this problem and make official announcement with the estimate of how many BTC were stolen from their wallets.
255  Economy / Speculation / Re: Transaction malleability problem on: February 14, 2014, 10:36:40 AM
I'm not talking about BTC withdrawal, sure all of them will fix that, I'm talking about BTC missing from exchanges and how will they address that problem.
256  Economy / Speculation / Re: Transaction malleability problem on: February 14, 2014, 09:58:51 AM
Sure, they can say whatever they want, but read between lines, this is from their statement:

Quote
Currently it has suspended processing Bitcoin withdrawals due to inconsistent results reported by our bitcoind wallet, caused by a denial-of-service attack using transaction malleability to temporarily disrupt balance checking.
257  Economy / Speculation / Transaction malleability problem on: February 14, 2014, 09:37:52 AM
Hackers used transaction malleability to steal BTC from exchanges (yes, plural, it's not only Gox, read the Bitstamp statement)

Consequence:
1. Exchanges have the fiat they say they have
2. Exchanges don't have the BTC they say they have

Conclusion:
1. Some users don't have reported BTC on exchange they think they have

Speculate how this could be solved

260  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ripple is not a scam - and you may be making yourself vulnerable to actual scams on: January 01, 2014, 06:21:16 PM
Ripple is not a scam, it's just full of trading options which most of you obviously don't understand. Identifying Ripple network with one of this options is not a good representation of the real situation.

For example trust... All of you think that you have to trust someone in order to use Ripple, non-sense.

Bitstamp is exchange in Bitcoin world and is gateway in Ripple world. If you know how to use Bitstamp in Bitcoin world, you will know how to use Bitstamp gateway in Ripple world. I'm using Ripple for about 6 months and only trust line I have set is towards Bitstamp and I only set that trust line when I deposit BTC from Bitstamp gateway to Ripple. After I complete the deposit, I exchange BTC to XRP and I set trust line toward Bitstamp gateway to zero, so I don't trust anyone in Ripple and I'm trading all the time in the Ripple integrated order book. If you still after reading this say that it's needed to trust someone inside Ripple in order to trade, you have to learn basics about Ripple. Best way to learn is to try, don't base your opinion on theory.

Cheers
