241  Other / Off-topic / Re: Bitcoin is not gambling on: October 04, 2017, 10:10:24 PM
I don't know why people say bitcoin is gambling. Its not gambling. You are investing your money and time. You use your internet. So its not gambling dealing with it.

It can be used in gambling but it's not gambling. There's a big difference with that if they will pay attention. If one uses money to gamble, do we consider money as gambling? No, we don't. Same goes with bitcoin. It is a cryptocurrency and just like money it has many uses such as purchasing, investing and trading. It involves risk at some level but overall, it's a calculated risk because most people who invested have already got their return of investment and using their profits as their capital so they won't lose any penny if worst thing happens.
242  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Do you see alts have chances against Bitcoins? on: October 04, 2017, 09:06:53 PM
I believe altcoins also have their chances to go up against bitcoins. The problem that I think is that because of those some alts that turned out to be scams other alts who might have the potential are affected because investors are quite skeptical to invest with their projects. Maybe they can go up against btc in time but I can't see ot in the near future because we have to admit that btc have the upper hand since it was developed first.
243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Small investors now is your time! on: October 04, 2017, 07:26:24 PM
So now that the price is dropping, do not fret as it's the perfect time to buy! with bitcoin once again in the 3000's $100 will go much farther now than it did just a few weeks ago. You can possibly even buy your way into the larger investment level right now and ride the wave! Capitalize  on this moment to double down. Even if it lowers a bit more it's still in our favor. because as soon as this insecurity is gone Bitcoin will make another run and my guess is that it would hit 6000+. Especially with bankers buying it up while denouncing it publicly. Getting to your first coin is a milestone and will allow you/me/all of us to participate in the community at a whole new level and from a new perspective.

Act now!

Thoughts and criticisms welcome.

Update:
Thank you all for your responses and support!

I made a continuation of the ideas of this forum covering broader topics and trends concerning small investors. Please post there now: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2219459.0

That's right. Seeing how much the value went down last month from reaching the ATH of 5K down to merely 3K I believe that September was the best time for investors to buy in more coins. Even though many of new btc holders panicked because of the dip it really is healthy for btv to experience such stage because we were able to add more in our investments.
244  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is Buying and Holding the only way? on: October 04, 2017, 04:29:49 PM
i tried to calculate how much would i make from bitcoin mining using an antminer s9, and i don't think it's worth it for me as the cost of electricity is high where i live, which is in the UK (it's 20 cents approx), i make like $300 profit a year. and obviously i can't use faucets as that will take years to get one bitcoin. so is the only way to even get any value from bitcoin is to buy it and hold it on for another few years? but it is a risky investment due to the price. or should i invest in new currencies that are cheap right now and have potential to grow to $4k a coin?  Huh

Right now, it's not profitable to mine anymore because there are lots of miners now and the production cost is really high. There are other ways other than buying and holding. If you are interested in trading it's by far the fastest way to earn but is also risky. There are also opportunity in ICOs investment as long as you know which one to support but that's the tricky part you know, finding the right one. Everything is a risk here and the question is how much of a risk taker are you. Remember that no one succeeds who doesn't take risks. And by the way, another good source of btc is by offering services in exchange of btc and one example is the signature and bounty campaigns here in this forum. But first you have to establish your rank to at least Jr. Member for you to be eligible in campaigns. There are other services though, you can offer to design logos, translate ANNs, offer web designs, programming, etc.
245  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you guys withdraw your bitcoins to cash? on: October 04, 2017, 11:34:23 AM
I know that for some of you, you can withdraw it directly to your bank account using wallets like coinbase but this feature is not available for many countries.
Since its not available in my country too I always withdraw my bitcoins from my address to payza then from payza to payoneer (by using exchangers).

How do you guys withdraw your btc?

In my country which is philippines we have an online website exchanger named Coins.ph. We can directly convert our bitcoin wallet funds into fiat. We can choose to claim in a remittance center with service fees or directly to our bank account. Also we can claim without any fees using a cardless atm.

Yeah I'm using coins.ph too and so far I haven't encounter any problems or delay with them. It's convenient to use but I haven't tried using cardless atm from security bank because I've read comments in their official page that some are having problems. And aside from coins.ph I think we also have ABRA wherein you can cash out via tambunting. Haven't tried it though. But I've seen others who are opting to transfer from coins.ph to abra because of account suspension and other complaints thus giving them a nickname such as "bitbitcoins.ph"

Did you lose BTC somehow? forgot passord, computer crash ...

Luckily, I haven' had this kind of situation and my coins ate intact. Loosing them is very unfortunate and I hope nobody else experience it. I've been keeping my password and private key in my notebook and I believe no one will ever find out about it except me. So I am confident that my coins are safe. I just hope that I won't be a victim of hacking like those I've read using the same wallet as me where they just clicked on a certain link then all of a sudden their btc were gone. That's why I always keep in mind to never click any link especially those that used url shortener.
247  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Reasons why now is the time to invest in Bitcoin on: October 04, 2017, 03:15:19 AM
Every time is the right time to invest in btc. It's never too late because everyone can profit from btc investment. The only difference between a new investor and the old one is the amount of profit they will accumulate but at the end of the day they both profited and that is what matters. All we need is to be a risk taker to achieve all these and trust that btc can do wonders for us.
248  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Difference between Bitcoin and real money? on: October 03, 2017, 05:52:16 PM
I've discovered Bitcoin few days ago, but I am skeptical about few things, why would I invest money in Bitcoins at the end of the day,why would I convert money into Bitcoins?

If I want to buy stocks or invest money I can easily invest with real $. Why would I convert my $ to bitcoins?
If I want to gamble , I can simply gamble on websites that require $ as currency, why would I convert it to bitcoins?
What's the difference between Bitcoins and dolars? What does bitcoin bring to the table that real $ don't, less taxes, more income?

As a newbie it's good that you have lots of questions like this. It just shows that you're smart and not like others who jumped on board because of mere curiosity and thinking that they will be millionaires in just a snap of their fingers. I can feel that you'll have a bright future in btc once all your questions are answered. Forgive me if I may not be able to answer all your questions but I'll try. I think that the important part here is the things that btc can offer and one is its decentralized system. It cannot be manipulated by any institutions, banks or even the governments.
249  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If bitcoin will be used in our daily transactions. on: October 03, 2017, 04:07:05 PM
If bitcoin will be used as our daily payment is it possible that schools will be accepting it as payment for tuition fees? And if it will be accepted they need to teach the students the use of bitcoin and give the knowledge to use it and how it works.

Actually, there are universities that includes bitcoin in their curriculum already. I think you should do some research before asking this. And as for using btc as daily payment you mean on a regular daily transaction I'm afraid that's not ideal. Btc should be used not on a typical transaction like for example buying your lunch or riding public transport. Imagin how much it will cost you for the transaction fees. I remember reading a thread about how a taxi driver put up a sign that he's accepting btc for payment but ended up receiving cash instead of btc. That is because when the passenger agreed on how much btc he should pay he realized that it will cost him almost twice the actual fare because of the tx fee.
250  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if China ban was temporary on: October 03, 2017, 03:22:10 PM
According to a post by Forbes, The Chinese ban might be temporary because they want to appease international agencies and hardcore communist members ahead of the upcoming Communist Party convention. So if the ban was to be lifted today or anytime soon, how prepared would you be to make a great opportunity out of it since it only means two things, a massive price increase or decrease

Source:  https://www.forbes.com/sites/panosmourdoukoutas/2017/09/25/why-chinas-ban-on-bitcoin-may-be-temporary/2/#1c8055057d09

That's what almost everyone of us here thought the first time we heard about bitcoin ban in China. Because we know how they are trying to manipulate btc as they please. That appeasing international agencies is just one of the reasons they've come up with to excuse their actions and I'm not buying any of it. They can support, ban and support btc again how many times they want. I'll just mind my own business and keep on investing.
251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin: circulation vs. scarcity. Which one should it be? on: October 02, 2017, 05:25:53 PM
So, I'm still wondering what to do best with our BTCs. I've been reading comments that say we should keep buying btc and hold it to ourselves because in that way we can contribute with the scarcity. Which will then result in higher demand and lower supply. In other words, btc price will be higher.

On the other hand, some say that we should use our coins as it was intended and that is to purchase things to let it circulate around.

Personally, I'm doing both. But as much as possible I'd like to just keep it for a longer time and contribute to the so called scarcity. What say you, guys?
252  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are you a True Believer? on: October 02, 2017, 02:29:43 PM
I see alot of people are holding Bitcoins and are convinced that their coins would multiply in value. The same people preach the Bitcoin ideology that its P2P,  decentralised, low to nil send or receive etc.

However, only a small group of people today are using Bitcoins as they were intended. And the fees are not exactly cheap to buy Bitcoins, not to mention those exchange places are basically like banks.

So my question is, are you a True believer of Bitcoins and other Cryptocurrencies that it will one day replace paper money, decentralised and all. Or are you only a believer that the price will continue to climb and you'll one day be a millionaire?

I simply find it fascinating that its apparent, people are preaching the benefits of Bitcoins but they are not using them. Preaching to newbies and drive up the demand and prices of the coins.
Rather, I would love to see people who really believe in Bitcoins, actually going out there and using the coins to purchase products, send/receive coins and let the coins circulate around. I would love to see that day. When the prices are not so volatile, and the coins are being used as they were intended. However, not being volatile also means the prices would rise sharply like it has been this year, which also means you wont be a millionaire holding onto them coins.

So are you a True Believer?

Here in our country I haven't seen any establishment who accepts btc as a payment so there's no way for me to use btc in any transactions such as purchasing goods. But if you consider someone like me who occasionally converts btc to fiat to purchase items then maybe I can consider myself as one of those true believers you're talking about. Those believers who uses btc as they're meant to be in order for it to keep the circulation going then yes I am one of them.
253  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Charlie Shrem "China has no real effect on the future of bitcoin" on: October 02, 2017, 08:37:14 AM
Charlie Shrem is one of the pioneer in Bitcoin and said “This China FUD is playing on all your fear, uncertainty and doubt. China has no real effect on the future of bitcoin. Bitcoin is about censorship free and an alternative non govt controlled financial system. China’s relevancy is diminishing by the day. They overplayed their hand and there is a reason they are being ambiguous. The only power they have over bitcoin is the power you give them. Bitcoin puts a financial system back in our control.”

Agree with Charlie Shrem?

Source: https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/charlie-shrem-china-no-real-impact-bitcoin/

Now we're talking. That's the very spot on statement and I couldn't agree more with Charlie. So those people who still have doubts about btc's future because of that pathetic stunt made by China should be at ease and keep still. We have a bright future ahead even without China. And seriosuly, don't be manipulated by their self proclaimed power/influence because they really don't have one. As long as we believe in btc nobody nor country nor organization can put a dent on btc's reputation.
254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I did it! Traveling with Bitcoin and $100 only on: October 02, 2017, 05:55:44 AM
My journey started on Sep 21, from Boston to NYC, flight to Egypt then Turkey, back to Boston! Carrying $100 just in case and 3 bitcoins in my wallet!

Fuck If I will ever carry credit card, or cash any more:

1- I used Localbitcoins for cash! Search for best local currency rate!
2- How much I save from credit card fees and Fiat exchanges: $305.
3- Is it save to deal with Localbitcoins in person overseas? Yes, so amazing nice guys, you are making friends Smiley

You should try it! & $100 stayed with me! and I spent less than 1.9 btc in both countries!!!

Wow! I'm glad you made it. I'm personally one of those people here who want to travel to different places with the use of btc. It started as a dream and now here you are telling us your wonderful travel. You just shown us that it's possible and I cannot wait to try it too. I just hope that the places I want to explore accepts btc from fares to accommodations and foods. Here's for your wonderful experience, cheers!

259  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can bitcoin wallet be hacked by hackers? on: September 29, 2017, 08:52:12 PM
During my studies in college if there is one thing that I always remember what my professor said is that there is no system security that is perfect. Everything in the internet can be breached and it's what I firmly believe in since then. With that being said there's no doubt that our online wallets are prone to hacking activities. Sometimes I even wonder if there's a chance of an inside job everytime I heard of hacking incident. But I think it's just me and my paranoia. And I think the only thing we can do to prevent it is to take the necessary steps to protect our private keys and make sure that all security features available are being followed.
260  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens if BTC gets regulated? on: September 29, 2017, 07:10:29 PM
Hello,

Just read somewhere that BTC is accepted by strippers now? lol

I wonder what will happen if it gets regulated by the government? value would go down? perhaps consolidation?

Overall , what's the general outlook? Obviously, I understand it'll be personal opinion but still. Go ahead and share. I'll get to learn something new.

If it gets regulated there would be more investors who would join btc. Because there are people especially investors who like to invest in btc but are afraid of dojng so because it isn't regulated. If that happens then it will just be the beginning of a wonderful time for us. We might see all time highs on a daily basis due to the increase of demand in btc.
