2441  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: August 03, 2012, 04:23:46 AM
First of all I appreciate all the amazing information within this thread, even though it is nearly impossible to find with so many pages. None the less, thanks.

So I spent a lot of time confused and trying to learn and received little (but useful) input in the newbie thread I made here :

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=97288.0

You can read it to get an idea of what I've gone through, but here's where I'm at now:

Glad to say I busted the last block, at least that's what I take it to mean. So am I finally getting the picture? One thing I don't understand, are shares based on an average in the past 24 hours or so? Is that why my payout keeps going up without discovering new shares rapidly? I assume there is no significance of finding a block since I am in the pool (which seems effective even for my low end machine GPU Nvidia). I am enjoying the learning experience about bitcoin and to use it.

Any advice would still be great, thanks!

this is what it says when you get one yourself:

2012-08-02 21:58:24.766062 GOT BLOCK FROM MINER! Passing to bitcoind! http://blockexplorer.com/block/00000000000006df0e6a59574c068e78835ba652e3aca88c0c35be5940d9ae87

that one was mine =p  you get a bonus when solving a block, i think it's the transaction amt?  I got 1.04 for that last one, and .80 for the block previous
2442  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: NPW 5.1 p2Pool - bad luck or flawed? on: August 02, 2012, 11:14:25 AM
Evil. PPS is so doomed...

Has it been adressed, that p2pool includes lots of transactions in the block genrating a bigger size of block.

The p2pool nodes are often/almost anytime behind home broadband. even with 1 mbit upstream a 130 kb block would take 8 seconds to propagate fully... could this explain the higher orphan rate?

it hasnt gotten an orphan since i started using it & set up my server (5.9.24.81).. about 3 weeks?
2443  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Is my 5870 running too hot? And how can I make it better? on: August 01, 2012, 04:30:33 PM
I have a stock ASUS RADEON 5870, Idle temps are around 48-50 C

Ambient temps are 22-25 C

When running Phoenix with AGGRESSION=12 gets me around 350 Mhash/s but my GPU temp goes up to 90-91 C

Is this dangerous? I don't want to fry my card.

If this is too high what is a safe range and what are some things I can do to bring the temp down (add more fans? Open case? I don't want to water cool).

90-91 isnt too hot, as long as the VRMs are 90-91 as well (unlikely, i would bet they're in the range of 100-105)

i try to keep all my cards below 70o as well, but, honestly... a 5870, you could probably run it 24/7 at 80o and it'd still be working 2 years from now.

you should also be getting a higher hash rate, 350 is slow for a 5870.  i get 350 when i drop the voltage (and then the card runs under 60oC).  at "stock" voltage (varies a bit depending on manufacture, i think for reference cards it's 1.163 perf lvl 3??) unless you got a lemon, you should be able to do at least 975 core w/ 150 memory (128 worksize)

haha, i already posted to this.  at least my info is like *nearly the exact same!
2444  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Your Electricity Cost per Kwh (Which country is the Most Expensive) on: August 01, 2012, 04:24:16 PM
I'm taking a bit of a poll, and I'm kinda curious who pays how much per kWh and where with who? I'm kinda betting Australia is currently the dearest (or one of).  This information may be useful to anyone that wants to startup a mining Investment company.

Also, no smartarses who get free power (or who steal power from work...)   Grin
I'll add everyone's responses to this first post.

I'll start...

----------------------------------------------------------
Price per kWh      |      AUD 20.69c
Current as @       |      March 2012
Provider              |      Ergon Energy
State/Province     |      Queensland
Country              |       Australia
----------------------------------------------------------
i'm part of an electric commune here in NE texas (near Tyler, Texas, or about 100 miles east-southeast of dallas), so can't switch providers like most ppl in US.

in any case, elec was ~9.9c until I started using >2000kwh, now it's 7.9c
2445  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: PSU for 2x5870 on: August 01, 2012, 03:02:24 PM
i run two 5970's on a 750W seasonic, if it's a good 550w psu it shouldnt have any problems.

at least if you dont have a whole bunch of peripherals.

i underclock cpu (and disabled the second core, since it was a dual core), turn off built in audio, leds, a network port, use a USB stick, etc

(ed: i'd be more worried about the amps on the 12v rail)
2446  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 7970 overheat protection? on: August 01, 2012, 02:59:50 PM
So I'm mining with AMD 7970 and 7950, they are watercooled.

I'm a bit worried incase of pump failure, is there any built int BIOS in the cards that shut them off at 90c or will my cards burn out incase of pump failure?

Also my CPU is aircooled So I can't install a software so that PC shuts of incase of overheating CPU as it's not connected to pump.

well, the guy I bought my water cooled system from had two pumps.  i guess ^^ in case that happened
2447  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Countdown to radeon 7990 on: August 01, 2012, 02:56:21 PM

yeah, it'll finally beat the 5970 in gaming performance

hmm, any ideas why my systems on my switch get 50% rejected on p2pool (they were originally on a hub and I thought it was from all the collisions, that shouldnt be as much of an issue now?)   it  doesn't happen on other pools

9% less monies is ON TOPIC.

difficulty +9% = 9% less monies,

supplement income with george abdwnango methods
2450  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: WTB Graphics Cards and a Motherboard on: August 01, 2012, 02:24:40 PM
the 6xxx's are priced higher since they're better for gaming.   6930 is roughly equiv to a 5850 , 6950 is slightly better, 6970 is like a 5870.

you can regularly find 5830's for under $90 including shipping on ebay

6990 would be a foolish purchase

oh, i was posting some reply on wrong thread.  oops.

this 5830:

Do you have a CPU + heatsink for the mobo? I might be interested then.

Yes, it can include CPU w retail box hsf..  its a sarges 145 single core 45 watt, we have some 3 & 4 core CPUs as well.  +$30 for CPU & hsf.  I'll leave a 1 GB stick of ram on it too.

I broke down and just used my credit account on newegg to get a new MSI Z77A-GD45 + Intel Celeron G440 single core 35W CPU and use some of my existing ramsticks I have laying around. But the info you gave is good for other buyers that may be interested.

actually, biostar might be better overall search for pci-e slots, searching for pci-e usually doesnt turn up anything with decent value.  you have to get ppl that dont know what theyre selling, i guess.

(ed2: avoid top rated sellers, or ppl with shops, haha)

oh, here's a 5830 for $75 with free shipping

buy them for really cheap, then resell a few months later

closing this thread out.  i'm talking to two people about it but will probably end up listing on ebay.
2456  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: July 31, 2012, 09:23:23 AM
The only thing stopping me from mining on p2pool (except of some testing) is the constant bad luck. If that's solved and the 90 days luck factor keeps swinging around 100%, I'd love to switch to p2pool as p2pool basically is quite awesome Grin.
Seconded. Only problem is that as the hashrate rises, it seems like the luck gets worse.
well, as the hashrate rises, i know i get more stale/dead shares, because of all the new work messages.

i wish I could add some difficulty to my miners, but the /1000 or whatever doesn't work in phoenix
2457  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Entry Level Mining Rig on: July 31, 2012, 09:06:22 AM
Availability of those cards seems pretty limited.  Is there anywhere to buy them new anymore?  I know I could get them off of ebay but then I'm likely I'm buying it used from someone who was using it to mine 24/7 and its at a higher risk of failing on me quickly Tongue

i've bought all my used cards off of miners, and none of them has failed yet

just one fan that i replaced

2459  Economy / Economics / Re: How much do you value your credit score? on: July 30, 2012, 10:26:58 AM
I quit caring about my credit score after I ran up 80k in credit card debts and filed for chapter 7, several years back.

I'll start to value it again in, oh, about 4 years now.  Sadly, I'm no Donald Trump.  Can't manage to get people to give me millions to declare bankruptcy again in a couple years.

I have never heard of someone 'not having a score'.  If you have no credit, your score is shit.

Actually, my score would probably be better, even w/ the bankruptcy.  I still have my payed off student loans, establishing a long line of credit history!
2460  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Satoshidice.com ,please pay my bitcoins! on: July 30, 2012, 10:15:38 AM
Since I made a mistake to lost my 50BTC at  satoshiDice,I think I should to win back.

But is seems that I am so unlucky!

I am waiting for at least 48 hours for it.

And I didn't  receive my pay back yet.

This is the transaction.  http://satoshidice.com/full.php?tx=72b97a20c5cee0b9f05b5203d0361263edb41b752a15e2838ac2b3b6789f74c2

I lost most of my bitcoin ,and when I won one time , it didn't pay.

I so angry with that!!

Why the status is UNKNOW ?

And when Can I receive my pay which is belong to me?

I try to contact evoorhees to resolve this problem, but no reply.

Yeah, I haven't gotten paid for a transaction, either.  Mine was only about 1 1/2 hours ago though.

There is too much satoshi spam.  I mean, p2pool is trying to do a block with 1000 transactions atm

ed: excellent, my satoshi spam has successfully transacted.. good luck!
