Zudem könnte die Zentralbank einen laufenden Nachschub neuer Kryptowährung garantieren. Bitcoin hingegen ist auf maximal 21 Millionen Geldeinheiten festgelegt und unterliegt somit deflationären Tendenzen und starken Kursschwankungen.
Das ist doch nun echt Schwachsinn: wenn die Zentralbank eh die coins ausgeben kann, wozu ist dann die blockchain überhaupt gut? Dann kann ich doch das Transaktionssystem auch zentralisieren. Gibt's schon, heisst paypal. |

Excellent news. So much work has gone into Trezor, it would've been one more bad outcome that the bitcoin ecosystem doesn't need. I am very pleased to say that I will absolutely be in the market for a Trezor given this reversion. My faith in Satoshi Labs is restored. I just hope satoshilabs will make it to the black numbers with the new approach. I think it's their best shot. |

seems to me everybody is overreacting a bit.
I want trezor code to be continued to be developed by satoshilabs. I trust these guys and they have reacted quickly in the past to bug reports and security issues as witnessed regarding the firmware recently in public and a while ago by myself with an electrum interoperability issue (it was fixed within hours of me reporting it by ThomasV (electrum) and stick (trezor firmware)). I doubt the bwallet guys would've fixed anything that quickly: they're just freeriding.
I wouldn't trust the chinese copy-cats or even the opensource community with developing the firmware in a meaningful way (no incentive).
This is why I'm ok with paying a fat premium and if necessary I would support satoshilabs in other ways for continued maintenance and development of the codebase.
I think it's unfortunate that satoshilabs thinks they have to fight the chinese using men with guns, but I cannot change that. It's a decision by them we have to accept. I also think the 'backdating' of the license change is questionable (doesn't even work legally, I think), doesn't shed a good light. A better way could've been to change it honestly for versions > 1.3.0 and continue to make the firmware better. "Compete, don't whine and call for the state".
However, I do not think the licensing change will impact wallet integration negatively. A solution has to be found for altcoin devs, though.
I will continue to promote the trezor as the most secure hw wallet out there. I think reducing the price to somewhere between $60 and $99 would be a smart move, but that's only for satoshilabs to decide.

what are people's thoughts on mining difficulty futures contracts bound to difficulty changes as innate "oracles"?
I have a hunch it may be useful, but it's a difficult subject on why, when and who would bed on difficult going down.
I've been involved in market making for difficulty futures on *aehm* bitfunder back in the days. Difficulty was going up an average of 30% back then if I remember correctly. The futures would be settled at a certain date (some time after the expected difficulty adjustment) and a price depending directly on difficulty (in a linear fashion). (Technically (to fit the bitfunder model) I was borrowing the assets (some trust involved, but mostly btc) from the issuer and was forced to buy back at settlement time (and for the price determined by the difficulty) the ones I had sold to the market and would get my collateral back from the issuer upon returning the "shares" I had borrowed.) That way miners were able hedge against a high difficulty increase by buying these shares (futures) from me or other market makers. I would issue them at a price chosen by me (also changing over time according to my expectations). That price was of course slightly higher than the difficulty increase expected by me (hedging comes at a cost and I must make some money for taking the risk). That way I made a moderate sum in case of a difficulty increase in the expected range, but took risk of a higher-than-expected increase from the buyers (hedgers). So it was a win-win: I was getting a little income with relatively high probability and the miners were hedging the risk at tolerable cost. The market made the price (there were other market makers and miners were also sometimes trading the futures they had bought previously, so we were competing on price and of course if the price was too high, hedgers weren't buying). Noone was betting on falling difficulty back then: an increase was almost certain. Hope this answers your question. ;tldr: yes, difficulty futures are useful and offloading risk comes at a cost |

Thanks. They used a lot of trezor code, yes. That's totally legitimate afaict. Hardly would call that a counterfeit, especially because the casing looks hardly like the trezor. Yes, reusing the vendor code is maybe not the best behaviour (and likely against some rules), but it doesn't constitute counterfeiting imo. |

Kann zwar das passwort immer wieder zurücksetzen und bekomme auch die SMS, jedoch bleibt es bei der Meldung wie oben im Bild das man sich telefonisch zur Entsperrung bei denen melden soll. Da waere eine Kosten-Nutzen-Rechnung interessant. Bei einem Block durchschnittlich alle 600sec und 2 sek. Propagationsvorteil waere es klug die Transaktionen anzunehmen, wenn die Gebuehren groeszer als 25/300 = 0.083BTC sind? Kann man das so rechnen?
Frueher waren diese Blocks von Botnetzen, weil man sich da eine Menge Komplexitaet spart.
Die Rechnung kommt hin. Vielleicht sind es auch 4-5 Sekunden Vorteil, dann entspricht das 0.15-0.2BTC. Das würde sich dann schon lohnen. Langfristig macht man damit aber den Markt kaputt, also wäre es sehr dumm, wenn die Miner das wirklich nur deswegen machen würden. Gavin estimated the cost per standard transaction: Executive summary

Kannst du mal näher erläutern was das bedeutet, bzw wie das zustande kommt? Danke. Ein Miner kann selber entscheiden, ob und welche Transaktionen er in einen Block aufnimmt. Das lässt sich nicht verhindern, weil ein Miner nicht alle Transaktionen mitkriegen kann. Hier hat ein Miner überhaupt keine Transaktionen aufgenommen. Das hat für ihn kaum einen Vorteil; im Gegenteil: er nimmt keine Transaktionsgebühren ein. Für das Netzwerk ist es aber ebenfalls sehr nachteilig, weil sich die Transaktionen aufstauen und viel länger für die Bestätigung brauchen. Solche Blöcke hat es in der Vergangenheit schon mehrmals gegeben; insbesondere in der Anfangsphase. Aber zweimal an einem Tag ist schon relativ viel. Kleiner Nachtrag: Es gibt doch einen Vorteil für einen Miner, wenn er keine oder wenige Transaktionen in den Block packt: der Block propagiert viel schneller durchs Netzwerk. Ein normal gefüllter Block hat eine Größe von etwa 700KB. Ein leerer Block hat nur 0.2KB. Wenn man sich die verwaisten Blöcke ansieht, kann man sehen, dass manchmal nur Sekuden darüber entscheiden, welcher Block weitergeführt wird und welcher verwaist.
