2461  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Reputable exchanges for a newbie to start with on: November 20, 2020, 12:29:17 PM
I'm now looking to try some reputable exchanges. I'm in the UK if that makes a difference.
I often see most of my Facebook friends and any other cryptocurrency trading tutorials in Youtube use Binance as their platform to perform their trades maybe because of a lot of perks they can get when doing some trades. It is also worth mentioning that they do not require KYC (Know Your Customer) policy when doing some trades unless otherwise you exceed the withdrawal limit of 2 BTC and you are planning to use P2P Trading (Peer to Peer).

Currently, I think Binance is the most used platform right now but still take some precautionary measure when using their platform since there is no such place that is not susceptible for hacking incidents.

[1] https://www.cnbc.com/2019/05/08/binance-bitcoin-hack-over-40-million-of-cryptocurrency-stolen.html#:~:text=Hackers%20have%20stolen%20over%20%2440,breach%E2%80%9D%20which%20occurred%20on%20Tuesday.

Also, I know not to leave BTC on the exchanges, but as far removing BTC goes is it best to send straight to hardware wallet (assuming you have one), or should you send it to say a mobile wallet first, or does it just not matter?
It depends, If you plan to stack some bitcoin for long term hold then withdraw it directly from the exchange to your Hardware wallet, if not and you needed your profit for day to day spend your hotwallet is not a bad choice considering that it is not a large chunk of money.

I am always seeing you actively participating in Developmental and Technical Discussion board and I must say that I learned a lot especially from your replies in Lightning Network FAQ thread which also inspires me to dive into more technical stuff.

Anyhow, it's always interesting to see your replies as they are easy to understand so..please be consistent with that one. Congratulations! I hope my time will come too!!
2463  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What are keys and which ones are "secret"? on: November 20, 2020, 06:18:51 AM
@farafara

You'll understand the concept of "reused address" more if you also used Electrum wallet which is a very good example in this case.

The string of characters inside the box are your bitcoin address that has been derived from your public keys upon creating your wallet. In this case you are using Legacy (P2PKH) whose addresses start with 1. Take note that all receiving address are the addresses which you can use for receiving/depositing bitcoin however, it is not advisable to use them twice for security and privacy purposes.

The most private and secure way to use bitcoin is to send a brand new address to each person who pays you. After the received coins have been spent the address should never be used again. Also when sending money to people always ask them for a brand new bitcoin address.

So when I send bitcoin from coinbase to kukoin for example to buy altcoin, that address is likely different every time? I honestly didn't check.  But what you said makes me more comfortable mk4.  I'm not so much worried about privacy as I am for security.  So that's good news right there.
Unfortunately, Kucoin does not give you a brand new bitcoin address even after you used their deposit address. They will only give you 3 different kinds of bitcoin deposit address which are prone for address reuse:  Native-BTC, Segwit-BTC and TRC20-BTC

Just to add.

Here are some of the resources I have found that is useful for someone who is just starting/practicing on how to verify Electrum whenever it has new updates. Also, it would be better to bookmark the official website of Electrum to avoid getting phished.

2465  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Skybridge Capital filed an amendment to SEC to allow them to invest on Bitcoin on: November 20, 2020, 04:10:46 AM
Though this will positively affect bitcoins growth in terms of price. But what will happen if there will come a time after they put their money in bitcoin and bearish market will come into place again? Normally that some of the late entrants are susceptible to a much higher risk of getting burned especially they are holding other people's money that would add another strain on their end.

2466  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: DIY Bowser Hardware Wallet on: November 19, 2020, 01:33:18 PM
Wow! This is an interesting makeshift Hardware wallet although it's kinda tedious to remove and insert the SD card back and forth to your computer and the M5Stack to sign a transaction, it is still a good learning experience to fully grasp the idea of how seed, private keys and public keys work in raw codes.

However, is the codes used in Arduino IDE is the same in other wallet when broadcasting the transaction to the network? I just doubt the project a little since it was build from scratch but still I got curious on how it was build and might do the actual project whenever I got free time.
2467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can Bitcoin be considered the “gold” of crypto investment? on: November 19, 2020, 11:53:10 AM
Why not have them both? bitcoin and gold can con-exist with each other and therefore it is not necessary to make comparison which one is exceptional in terms of investment. bitcoin being considered as in investment started only when its price reaches above $20, 000 which entice a lot of people or investors to view it as speculative asset grants them pretty good profits when in fact it is originally created as a "currency".

Both of assets have their own pros and cons anyways, it just depends on the risk appetite of people who are going to invest in them.
2468  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: how to buy bitcoin anonymously on: November 19, 2020, 02:14:04 AM
Have you tried finding a bitcoin ATM near your place? Maybe this would help you findin it.
[1] https://coinatmradar.com/

Ong good alternative is to use the Currency Exchange section in bitcointalk. I have tried trading there once and fortunately the transaction went smoothly. Just be careful though since there are lots of bogus trader lurking around the corner. Make sure to check their trust rating when doing a trade.
2469  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: How to check where BTC were debited? on: November 18, 2020, 03:04:28 PM
Used the exchanger http://www.help.westchange.top
They replied: "Not displayed to our address. We do not know where you sent, but we did not receive anything from you.
There is no transaction to our address in the network."
I've tried opening the link but my HTTPS Everywhere keeps showing that it is not recommended to enter the site as it not secured. Have you verified that this is not phishing site? Since I've found a similar exchange which supports HTTPS protocol.

[1] https://westchange.top/en/

Moreover, I still do not encounter such exchange with a time limit for showing deposit address Huh
2470  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Merit] Hey Bitcoiners! Can You Send Encrypted Messages? on: November 18, 2020, 02:36:14 PM
Asking since I'm pretty bad at analyzing stuffs that I've seen on the internet too. I was hoping you found another way and provide a much clearer guide.
Just like what @Husna QA said, try changing the default key server in Kleopatra which is the "hkps: //hkps.pool.sks-keyservers.net" to the remaining publicly available key servers.

What I have found so far:

[1] https://pgp.key-server.io/
[2] https://pgp.mit.edu/ (I currently use)
[3] https://keyserver.ubuntu.com/

Navigate thru Settings --> Configure Kleopatra and paste one of your preferred keys on the textbox and then click "OK".

Now if you want to lookup your Public Key on the server. Add the additional "pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x{FINGERPRINT}" to the key server you've pasted earlier in Kleopatra.

Here's my public key for example.
https://pgp.mit.edu/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x3466CFA83DEBE525F40446E5AC1D3A48A6161C75

You can now compare the the OpenPGP Text File (Public Key) you've exported to the server.
2471  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Red Icon in UNISWAP on: November 18, 2020, 02:00:08 PM
Greetings everyone,

When I was using UNISWAP trading some token for ETH, I stumbled upon this red incognito like icon on the swap history and I can't remember what it says before I captured it. Is this something related to TX fees, or slippage during the swap? Sorry for the noob question though.. Huh

2472  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Eng: Tutorial] PGP Signature - Encrypt/Decrypt message - Fingerprint on: November 18, 2020, 05:33:41 AM
@Husna QA,
Thanks you for the heads up. I've now gone past the same problem they encountered from following the tutorial. I have now changed the default key server to https://pgp.mit.edu/ and was able to lookup my "PGP Public Key Block".

Is there any other workaround where I can directly paste my "Fingerprint" to MIT PGP Key Server for lookup instead of manually creating a link of
Code:
https://pgp.mit.edu/pks/lookup?op=get&search=0x3466CFA83DEBE525F40446E5AC1D3A48A6161C75

In MIT Key Server, there are three sections and I assume the "Extract Key" is the section I will be using to search for my public key though I am not sure what string I will be using? Is it the FINGERPRINT itself?

2473  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Merit] Hey Bitcoiners! Can You Send Encrypted Messages? on: November 18, 2020, 04:49:36 AM
If anyone wants additional merit from me (if I still have it), add a message encrypted using my Ed25519 Public key above (mention my Bitcointalk username too, so I get a notification to check it).
@Husna QA, I've done it using the same method created by @mdayonliner. It's pretty easy to import the public key but I doubt there is something wrong since the public key you've given is different which is ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography). I am not sure though, I think reviewing additional resoures would be much better to understand. But anyways, here's my encrypted message.

Before I forgot, it seems that your tutorial is translated in our local language however it lacks the Windows OS tutorial part. I wonder if @Asu will going to update his thread.

[Let me start. May problema ang External HDD ko kahit nakapabihira ko gamitin. Nakaka frustrate at nandoon ang ilan sa mga importanteng files ko. Newly looked pa nga e. snip..]
It would be better to complement the software repair services using Teamviewer. Hassle kasi kung magrerepair tapos ang gamit lang na communication is thru Facebook messenger,  it is obviously time consuming kasi indirect yung nangyayaring repair diagnostic sa laptop/desktop.

I've tried it myself though, nung bumuo ako ng dekstop at hindi ko pa gaano alam ung Drive partition at tamang pag-install ng mga drives; nagpatulong ako sa kaibigan ko gamit yung application. It is actually a remote access sa computer mo as long as binigay mo yung passcode at ID mo sa mag-aayos.

Some tutorial which might help:

@Yogee, nope. I tried finding an alternative but it's kinda confusing for me since there are lots key server scattered on the internet and I don't know whether the key server is legitimate and supported by Kleopatra.

Besides, you can still make use of the encryption/decryption function inside the certificate manager (Kleopatra) without checking your public key on a key server.
2476  Economy / Gambling / Re: 🔶 YOLOdice.com 🔶 commission on LTC investments is at 35% till 31. Dec on: November 17, 2020, 04:51:17 AM
However, I do agree that lately they haven't been too exciting.  I was away for 7-8 days, but I am home now, and I will try to have a discussion with Ethan this week about prizes/competitions and see if we can come up with a more exciting solution. Smiley
Hello @Kiritsugu

Is it doable that aside from changing prizes and implementing new competitions, YOLO can also integrate the lightning network? The decline of user base really bothers me a lot especially on the part of YOLOdice and I think one important factor in order to regain traction is by adding another layer of payment?

I am aware that it would be technical and difficult  Cry but for the sake of YOLOdice being alive is important.

Note: I created this thread as an attempt to gain more knowledge about bitcoin, especially for myself.
I think what you are looking for is an advice or something that will deepen your understanding about bitcoin in general.

Well for me being a Computer Engineering student that requires a profound knowledge of technical stuff, bitcoin helps me to slowly understand and become passionate of the underlying technology that sits under the hood of bitcoin which leaves me to become fascinated about how encryption/ cryptography works, to become passionate about programming and to have a willingness to learn trading skills.

At least if ever bitcoin fails us, there is something useful that we can offer not only to ourselves but also to the public

An error occurred while trying to export OpenPGP certificates.
Server indicated a failure gpg: keyserver send failed: Server indicated a failure
It is because the SKS PGP Keyserver is being abandoned due to peoples abuse of known public keys on the server. I stumbled on this article when I tried looking for other keyserver lookup as alternative as I was also following the same tutorial. But still, even without uploading it to a keyserver, you can still verify the pgp signature of an application and encrypt/ decrypt a message.

Although I have experience in verifying the signature of Electrum wallet I decided to create again new key pair and followed the tutorial made by @mdayonliner but this time I will be publishing it to the key server. However, I encountered some issues along the way when I was about to verify my public key on the key server even though I am sure that I clicked the "Upload Public Key To The Directory Service" and double checked it by right clicking on the PGP userID and selecting "Publish On Server"

I used the link on the tutorial and along with my fingerprint. Is there any alternative?

I've read an article where it says "The Death of SKS PGP Keyservers" due to people who are abusing the important public keys online.
