75(*) deleted posts seems to be the limit Smiley. I see him banned now.
He's at 174 now! I don't see him banned, so I guess it's only temporary. He'll have some time to cool down.
2462  Other / Meta / Re: harizen - ban appeal on: October 05, 2023, 10:38:36 AM
What if they accessed the email, the private wallet keys
If OP deposits into his staked address, he'll find out if it's compromised....

Harizen can check his IP last 30 days https://bitcointalk.org/myips.php.
As far as I know, that works when you're banned, but not when your account is locked.

I still don't know how that hacker was able to breach my account.
The only safe assumption is that anything is compromised now. Which means you'll have to wipe your computer, reinstall everything from scratch, change all your passwords, and restore your user data from backup.
While you're at it:
Don't reinstall your OS - switch to Linux. Mint is fairly close to Windows if you are not familiar with Linux.
2463  Other / Meta / Re: [CLUB] The SpamBusters! Busting rule-breakers constantly. on: October 05, 2023, 09:11:50 AM
33 now 56 of his posts have already been deleted recently according to the modlog
I count 75, and I've reported the spammer too.
2464  Other / Meta / Re: When Trust and Merit Systems are subjective on: October 05, 2023, 09:03:45 AM
To make it clear I guess he wanted to say if qwk misusing his sMerit.
It seems like you are quite thorough, Yes I don't mind if he sends 5 or 10 merit, but 49 merit, for posts it seems like 5 merit are enough.
You should complain to theymos instead of creating guessing-topics in Meta. Don't take my word for it:
If they complain about amounts, tell them to complain to me.

And here's this:
It's best if sources try to exhaust their source allocations, even if it means giving posts higher amounts than is typical. If you have 150 source merit and you only see 3 merit-worthy posts in a month, then I'd rather you over-give each of them 50 merit than let the merit expire. That way there are more people capable of sending merit, and the "merit economy" is less top-down.
It looks like qwk is not very active and empties his sMerit source once a month now. I'd say it's a case of "not great, not terrible".
2465  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any code or extension where I can hide the avatar on the top left page? on: October 05, 2023, 07:24:39 AM
Set the brightness to a level that will cause the screen to appear black to anyone who is viewing from an angle.
On a decent quality screen, this isn't possible. And it's terrible for yourself too.
2466  Economy / Services / Re: LoyceV's Avatar for Rent [first 🦊🦊🦊🦊4 YEARS🦊🦊🦊🦊 (237 weeks) rented out] on: October 04, 2023, 06:09:30 PM
Thanks ahead for your flawless timing. I'm going to hit the couch. I've been slightly ill since last week, with the longest lasting headache ever. Now it's upping it's game into not being able to breath through my nose. So instead of alcohol, I now have my spicy (for Dutch standards) 0.9% habanero chips now. Just one bite is enough to be able to breath again for about 15 minutes.
2467  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with python code on: October 04, 2023, 05:59:50 PM
I know nothing about Python, but you shouldn't need an API for this. You should keep your seed and recovery offline.

Why don't you use The FinderOuter on an offline system?
2468  Other / Meta / Re: Can one plagarise unintentionally? on: October 04, 2023, 03:29:04 PM
According to Google, nobody did  Cheesy
Google stopped giving reliable results when searching for exact phrases a while ago. I'm pretty sure they've indexed my post in this topic already, but that one doesn't show up either.
2469  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [100 dots] seed phrase backup on: October 04, 2023, 03:24:29 PM
While watching old episodes of Home Improvement, I got another (even crazier) idea: store bits in your garden fence:
Image loading...
You need 256 bits, so you'll need 257 planks. Starting from the left, going up is 1 and going down is 0. The above image would read 11110000 Cheesy Unless you're Wilson, in that case it reads 00001111.

You can easily create a backup by taking some family pictures in the garden.
Who's going to notice? Cheesy And who's going to look for patters that could be seed phrases everywhere now? Cheesy
2470  Other / Meta / Re: Can one plagarise unintentionally? on: October 04, 2023, 03:17:40 PM
When creating threads or replies, I even utilize plagiarism checkers to ensure there are no unintentional similarities with existing content.
That makes no sense. If you type it by yourself, it's not plagiarism. Chances are someone wrote "If you type it by yourself, it's not plagiarism" before I did, but that doesn't make it plagiarism and there's no point looking for it.

The only way to unintentionally commit plagiarism is by accidentally forgetting to add the source when you quote something. That can easily be avoided by starting with "[ quote]" even before you paste the data into your post.
2471  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: October 04, 2023, 02:46:14 PM
I came across an interesting case of "plagiarism" Smiley
I've reported it as "Shitpost/plagiarism/spambot." Either way, it won't be missed.
2472  Economy / Services / Re: We can recover wallets with partially lost seeds on: October 04, 2023, 12:45:31 PM
Of course this is a scam. There's no other reason to fake credibility by talking about taxation, declaring and invoices. None of this means anything coming from an untrusted Newbie.

Needless to say: don't send your seed phrase to anyone!
2473  Other / Meta / Re: best replies should appear first in a thread. on: October 04, 2023, 12:34:12 PM
Like we have DT1 and DT2 lists, they can choose which reply is more relevant and valuable in the list.
Let's base it on Ignore lists, much easier.
2474  Economy / Exchanges / Re: eXch - instant exchange BTC / LN / XMR / LTC / ETH / ERC20 on: October 04, 2023, 10:23:11 AM
@Rikafip: if you want to hide the addresses, you should hide the ORDER number too. Or click "Remove data". And the exact amount makes it easy to find too.
2475  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: NERDMINER: Bitcoin lottery miners on: October 04, 2023, 09:25:14 AM
Did you actually read the thread?
Oh forget the thread, did you read the FIRST paragraph? The one with red letters?
Lol.

Greenhouses in the Netherlands used to use electricity from the grid for lights, and natural gas for heat and CO2. Natural gas was very cheap (for them). Later, they became power producers by running their own gas turbines. They still got the CO2 and most of the heat, but at lower price.
Nowadays, with much higher gas prices, they (also) use industrial waste heat, and industrial waste CO2.

Gas turbines can be combined with steam turbines to further improve the efficiency. That's possible because the exhaust gasses coming out of the gas turbines still have a very high temperature.
As far as using miner heat goes: it's futile. Low-temperate heat has a very low value (think about the Carnot cycle in physics). The heat isn't produced on locations where it's useful. I'm familiar with the edge case of using Bitcoin miners to heat greenhouses. The flaw is: it replaces electric heaters. You shouldn't use electric heaters in the first place, and I'm pretty sure you can get a better business case with a different heating system.

There's a reason Bitcoin miners are concentrated in areas with low electricity prices. Using the waste heat isn't enough to make up for high prices.
2476  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Oct 2023] Fees are lower, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: October 04, 2023, 08:34:37 AM
and since you said that we went in the wrong direction. Still if you do 9 sats you should be okay. But 2-4 not so much. It is way better than doing 25 or 35 sats.
I guess many people have been waiting to consolidate their inputs. In just 2 hours, 30 vMB was added at 1 sat/vbyte. Or maybe 1.1 sat, I can't see that. Since then, fees go up once in a while, but drop back into the minimum all the time. I think 1.1 (or 1.9?) sat/vbyte is quite likely to get confirmed today.
2477  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Public Blockchain Analysis Sites (to check transaction history) on: October 03, 2023, 02:36:30 PM
I know you have strong opinions on the topic, but just claiming Bitcoin is fungible when it is clearly not (right now) is imho dangerous. It may lead to Bitcoin-users mistakenly assuming anonymity when it is not necessarily there.
"Taint" is like a religion: it only exists if people believe it exists. If you can't accept cash money without doing a background check, money loses it's value. The same will happen to Bitcoin, and that is the real danger.

Quote
Right now some governments are trying their hardest to not have it that way. And are partly succeeding.
Governments can't stop Bitcoin, but they can make people believe they shouldn't trust Bitcoin. That's the real danger, and that's what I indeed have a strong opinion against.

It's worse with the companies promoting the idea of taint: they made a business model out of telling people some Bitcoins are worth less than others. They're not sharing their list, just like governments don't just publish a list of "tainted" Bitcoins. And any Bitcoin you own already can be labeled at "tainted" later on by random people for arbitrary reasons. The whole concept shouldn't exist.
2478  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is it possible to lock change by default? on: October 03, 2023, 12:43:19 PM
I would say, if you have coins you want to hide, and coins you don't need to hide, don't mix them up in the same wallet.
To add: If you'd ever have to restore your wallet from seed, you lose all address labels and information on locked inputs.
2479  Other / Meta / Re: Full Merit transaction history for any user - with GRAPHS, BANS and BBCode! on: October 03, 2023, 10:28:29 AM
Hey LoyceV, there's something wrong with your data because subject/title on the thread is missing.
Thanks for reporting this. I can't find what went wrong. Something changed after I moved to a new server, it looks like part of the script wasn't executed but that doesn't make sense. I'll see again next week: maybe I accidentally messed something up myself while running. Weird stuff Tongue
2480  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: [Oct 2023] Fees are lower, use this opportunity to Consolidate your small inputs on: October 03, 2023, 08:31:30 AM
Block 810326 was mined 1 hour and 9 minutes after the previous
I must say this is a very annoying "feature" of Bitcoin when you're waiting for a confirmation. It took many hours after this to find consecutive blocks fast enough to confirm my transaction.
