That idea is fail. CPU mining is wasted time. As for GPU mining 1)it requires a GPU 2)ASIC will be released in the next months and they will make GPU mining a thing of the past

I can't wait for ASIC to arrive btw

Hello and welcome!
2483  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: ASIC Miners have screwed me over. on: October 18, 2012, 06:30:06 PM
Competition in mining, like in any industry, will mean that the average person is unable to make a profit. Only those who invest the most time, are the most efficient, and stay ahead of the curve will make money long term with Bitcoin mining, and this should be expected.

Bitcoin mining isn't a get-rich-quick scheme, nor is Bitcoin itself for that matter. But if it was, it'd probably seem too good to be true and thus not be true. Grin

2484  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Synchronizing with network - how long for you? on: October 18, 2012, 01:39:15 PM
More or less 22 hours is normal today, unless you do this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=117982.0 wich mean in a hour or so you are ok.
And i heard about a new database system with future bitcoin client wich will make the downloading blocks thing much faster (in case you didn't notice, it took 22 hours because the hard disk was trashing like mad to verify every block, a better database would allow the computer to do that much much quicker!)

Oh or you can use a lightweight client like Electrum or Armory  Smiley
2485  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Jalapeno question on: October 18, 2012, 01:36:54 PM
Yeah well, same happened with GPU mining when it appeared, did bitcoin die?

Seriously guys, these "omg bitcoin is going to die" bullshit is ridicolous  Roll Eyes omg but it's almost 21 december 2012, it's really the end!!!!! omg!!!

Great job Cheesy
2487  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: what the hell ever happened to deepbit? on: October 18, 2012, 01:19:51 PM

o how the mighty have fallen.

seriously. wtf happened?

they went from over 50% to like 2% of the hash rate.
people finally understood deepbit is a rip-off. hard but true Wink

I wouldn't call using the most reliable pool, which one can use unattended with complete confidence, a "rip-off".  I pay higher fees/contributions at the other pools I use.  And I don't, particularly, have a problem with hoppers.  If I did have a problem with hoppers I would hop myself to offset the loss, which anyone can do if they want to put forth the time and effort.  0 fee pools are a rip-off if you ask me.  You just can't get something for nothing, no way to get around that fact, learn it, live it, know it!
Sam
Hello

Let's speak about p2pool. No fees, you also receive transaction fees, it's the most reliable pool, it's totally safe and it is never down.

Sadly you do need to be a bit of a programmer to generate a bootstrap.dat file.
Of course

gabi rage: is it so hard to have a program that you just clic it, tell it where the bitcoin folder with the blockchain is and then you press EXTRACT and it create bootstrap.dat?
2490  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran can't print paper, guy tells them to use BitCoin on: October 17, 2012, 08:47:07 PM
If the government is banning printing of Iranian currency then the bitcoin network should help by banning the inclusion of Iranian transactions.

Q. How do you tell an Iranian bitcoin from a good one?

A. Iranian bitcoins can't build a working nuclear bomb.
1)No

2)The rest of the world has tons of nuclear bombs

Bad idea. Why having a lot of messages should grant people moderator powers?

I don't even like the orange-ignore-thing if a lot of "people with a lot of messages" put someone in ignore  Cheesy

Sorry, but i am not used to call a 5 years old system "so old that it doesn't even run today software" Cheesy
Hell, my motherboard is 7 years old and i can play every game at max settings at fullhd.  Cheesy
2494  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2012-10-17 78 percent of Bitcoin currency stashed under digital mattress, study on: October 17, 2012, 06:27:33 PM
This means that 22% is actively used in the bitcoin economy  Wink

and what's wrong with saving money? They aren't happy that we spend everything and get debt and debt and even more debt to buy things?  Cheesy
2495  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Iran can't print paper, guy tells them to use BitCoin on: October 17, 2012, 06:24:15 PM
Correct me if i am wrong, but the "exporting cryptography is illegal" thing is false today. It was true tons of years ago, but not now.

And yes, bitcoin is ideal for Iran. Just download a small software and ta-dah, you are connected to a world-wide, secure, fast and efficient payment/money/whatelse system  Smiley

And yes, i too think that iran people are mostly good guys, the government is epic fail, but you can't blame the whole population for the errors of the government!

so the bitcoins are floating about with no place on the net to be delivered
This is incorrect
Your bitcoins are already at your private address. But well it seems you already figured that. Yes, to access them you need a bitcoin client

The Bitcoin QT client should work on mac, i mean this one http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitcoin/files/Bitcoin/bitcoin-0.7.0/bitcoin-0.7.0-macosx.dmg/download Dunno why it doesn't work on your mac. Aren't mac super extra mega computers where everything works fine and where there are no problems and with the best operative system around all the universe?  Roll Eyes Buy a real computer next time mkay?
Anyway, it should work on mac

Or, you can use a lightweight client wich doesn't require the full blockchain to be downloaded. Like
Electrum http://electrum-desktop.com/

Then you will have of course to import the private key to that client. Dunno if you can just copy-paste the wallet.dat file  Smiley
