2501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinsSource.com - Find out which Coins are Worth YOUR Time. SRC Promotions on: April 17, 2014, 06:24:40 AM
Site looks okay, although a free ad based site probably would have made more sense. Not so sure what the purpose for the coin is though.

As for Spoetnik, I think when I first read his posts my first reaction was bemusement. I assumed he was a kid who was on amphetamines or had some sort of emotional disorder. Now my reaction is more like a passerby glancing at a car accident, or seeing a lunatic on the street corner, and not trying to make eye contact. As he yells about the ills of society... or basically anything that walks by.

He does sometimes make valid points (buried beneath walls of text) and can be semi-coherent at times. But I don't think he realizes that nobody will care ... nobody takes the lunatic on the street corner seriously.
2502  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking to develop an innovative coin that encourages travel. on: April 16, 2014, 08:01:35 PM
you can use any existing coin for this

Yes, you could. Although I don't think the OP has thousands of btc (or other coins) lying about that he can just give away.

There is some value in advertising/marketing, so that is where a branded coin could be of value too.
2503  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking to develop an innovative coin that encourages travel. on: April 16, 2014, 07:00:04 PM
What about coin aimed for geocaching community (GeoCoin)?

I know little about geocaching, but there must be some merchandise, so vendors could feed the faucets.

I'm still worried about faking the gps though..

I think that idea may be a lot more feasible than a travel coin would be. Then the dev could get around the faucet idea entirely and just use physical coupons/paper wallets as part of the geocache. Arrange something with these guys as far as merchandise goes : http://shop.geocaching.com/default/

And you are set.

And besides faking gps, people could just fake ip. Even if the gps thing was fullproof, I am not sure what would stop someone from visiting a faucet site and then using multiple ip addresses and just draining the faucet completly. Or what would stop the more likely scenario ... people who live in or near that area from just draining the faucets, leaving nothing at all left for visitors.

We need urgently a Mazacoin pump, as nobody is talking about Mazacoin anymore... we need to get it back in the picture Smiley

If you want it to pump, silence and a really low price will make that happen. Pumpers don't buy overvalued coins. Good chance you'll get your wish.

Low price + CNN = possible pump... maybe. I just wouldn't expect crazy prices from it.
2505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CommunityCoin falling rapidly ** dev debunked ** breaking news GET OUT on: April 16, 2014, 06:24:32 PM
I've got my coins for free. How can I loose anything Smiley?

Yeah, I'm not sure if everyone even realizes we are talking about coins that people were given for free. A lot of complaints come from people who were rejected for a stake, or didn't get a 2nd stake. In some cases their complaints could be valid, but I have no idea why the dev rejected some people and not others.

If you look at who has been complaining, and their past post history, you can see a troll history quite often. Or they are trolling the comm boards outright. So I wouldn't exactly take their word on face value.

And that baby pic from Spoetnik  is disturbing. I'm not sure if it's supposed to represent people who dislike the coin, or Spoetnik himself ... I am not sure if I have seen any poster whine as much about anything in any forum before. I have yet to see him actually approve or like anything.

And crunchynut is the fellow who made rap(e)coin... not sure if more needs to be said.

2506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CommunityCoin falling rapidly ** dev debunked ** breaking news GET OUT on: April 16, 2014, 02:47:49 AM

I was involved in the CommunityCoin and got my first stake. Then, they didn't add my name to the second list even after I did a lot to promote the coin.

Then, the developer claimed to have lost 200 million coins. A developer? Someone who can code, but cannot back up the coins? It smelt fishy.

Then, I keep reading so many good people getting burned and not receiving a stake after they have done so much for the community. I started to realize that its a total scam and it made me think the dev is holding the coins to dump later.

So I got out as quickly as possible. Too bad I didn't sell when it was approaching 200 sats. Instead got out at 75 sats. I'm sure glad I did.

After all the promoting I did for CommunityCoin, I deserved the initial stake and would have promoted the hell out of the coin if I had received the 2nd stake.

This coin is a joke and I encourage anyone who holds CommunityCoin to cash out. The Dev holds the majority of the coin and lets all leave him as a bagholder of a worthless coin.

I honestly have no idea how the dev decided to award the 2nd stake to some and not others. I do agree that it appeared there were people who actively wanted to promote the coin, and had been promoting it, who did not get the 2nd stake. Maybe some sold off some of their coins, or had a past history of some trolling, or did something fishy that broke one of the devs rules. I am not saying any of those were the reason you weren't given coins... just why some may not have gotten them.

Part of the problem with any giveaway like this is, it'll never be 100% fair. It's just the way it is. Mistakes will be made or the devs will have rules that don't make sense to everyone. And something to be expected is that those who feel slighted in some way, will turn around and lash out against the coin. It's human nature.

My personal view is ... hey, it's free. I mean, if you did nothing at all, never signed up, you would have gotten zero btc out of it. I guess I just view it like if something is given away free, my expectations are lower and I also don't think there is a lot to complain about.

The 'lost coins' are definitely an issue. But it's not a dealbreaker to me, as far as selling/dumping. The trick with any coin here is to know when to get in, and when to get out. 75 sats probably is selling too low, considering the coin just hit exchanges this week (not counting allcrypt). If it hits a larger exchange, expect a bounce or two. Even if you want to get out, think something shady is going on, or are just angry you didn't get a 2nd stake, I don't think this is the best time to sell.

But we'll see. I won't tell anyone to hold, anyone to sell. But it's best to try to remove emotion from any decision.
2507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CommunityCoin falling rapidly ** dev debunked ** breaking news GET OUT on: April 16, 2014, 02:14:45 AM
I'm not going to speak of the merits or lack there of for the coin, but the current price is simply due to the 2nd 'airdrop', so to speak ... or 2nd stake given out.

For some comparisons, I believe the coin was around 10-20 sats for most of the time it was on allcrypt, and inched up to 100-200ish on Bittrex ...  and got a bit higher on Poloniex. Now it's sitting around 70. It just appears like a normal market correction to me.

Whenever I see someone yelling sell ...  it usually means it's time to buy. They want to scoop up cheap coins.
When people scream hold!  ... I consider selling.

I think the delay on airdrop is to develop the coin/dev team/ infrastructure for QBC then once many of the pump and dumps are over the airdrop won't have this crazy effect on price. Correct me if I'm wrong JP, that's just my observation.

Yep, and it makes sense.

Yes, it definitely does. Two years is an eternity in crypto time: more than enough time to develop a rich ecosystem of shops and services. And it's a great way for francophonies en Québec et autre to show their stuff!

Heck, a Franco-Ontarien might give it a whirl!

My concern is that it is an eternity in crypto time. Meaning it may be too long a delay. I would have liked to have seen 6 month drops, spread out over 2-3 years total. Not a drop every 2 years. But we'll see how it works out. I just know people here have really short attention spans ... 2 years to them is like 20 years... not sure how that will affect the price.

But do know the greediness of people holding 1m coins without doing much will dump them as soon it got around 100-200 satoshis.

Yeah 1000+ is possible only after weaker and greedy hands are out from the community coin.

I expect it will be a bumpy ride to 1000+ and take some time. But I was impressed that the coin reached 100-200 for the first stake. People could have dumped for 25 sats or less (and expect some did), but the price did get pushed up over 200 ... that's not too bad.

We'll see. If you look at FAC or BC, I expect a ton of people really regret selling so low. It's all a game ... and on the plus side, this game didn't cost anything to enter.

Agree with you.
Now the price is very low,I suggest you go to buy some comm now.
This will be another NXT reach at 0.00005000 btc.

I received my 2nd stake, so just want to first say thanks to the dev.

I have wondered about what price target the coin could achieve. I'm actually sort of impressed the coin has held as much value as it has. Although the 2nd stake did hurt the price a lot, sort of like how an airdrop lowers a coin's price.

I see no reason why the coin can't reach 1000-5000, after seeing BC go up like it did. People can argue it was due to a pump, or BC can't maintain that price... which I wouldn't even disagree with. Still... it got there... no reason Comm can't get to at least 1000+ if things go right.

Yep, and it makes sense. Although I have mentioned I think it would have been better to do a small airdrop to everyone in Quebec within the first 3 months or so, then spread out the drops over time, mostly just to get word of mouth + more promotion. But the way the dev set it up, there should be no major price drops. Unless IPO people sell off, hence why it may not be the best idea to go crazy with exchanges at first.

I was just thinking aloud as to if a nation coin would be better off doing a full airdrop, but keeping a coin off exchanges as long as possible (at least until 50% or more coins are distributed). But the rate of distribution probably would be too slow for that, unless it's a really small nation/area.
2512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][QBC] Québecoin - Best X11 Nation Coin - DarkGravityWave – 0.5% IPO on: April 15, 2014, 06:31:21 PM
Although the coin is going with the exchange first, then small local giveaways, then 2 years between airdrops, I started wondering if a better way to go might have been to do the full blown airdrop, but keep it off the exchanges for at least 3-6 months. I realize this may not even be possible due to the fact some exchanges could list it without the dev's permission. I was just thinking to myself that if it was possible, it may have been better.

If you look at FAC, Comm, C2 and similar coins, they are sort of like nation coins, but the group they are giving the coins to aren't an actual nation ... just a group on the internet. But their 'airdrop' mostly occurs before the coins hit an exchange, so there is no drop in prices. It's actually the opposite, where the price grows organically after everyone (or most) have their coins.

So I guess this is just an idea that it may be better not to go crazy with hitting tons of exchanges early on, at least until the initial small giveaways/promo or whatever is planned for the coin.
2513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking to develop an innovative coin that encourages travel. on: April 14, 2014, 07:24:16 PM

That's a very nice idea for a coin. Could really take off.

Regarding faucets, how would they work?
My first thought was that one could get coins at specific GPS co-ordinates, but I wonder if that is fake-proof?

I wondered that too. IP faucets are hardly fakeproof, but I don't know if they can be made to rely on GPS coordinates ... and be entirely accurate. If the faucets are too leaky, the idea won't work.
2514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Looking to develop an innovative coin that encourages travel. on: April 14, 2014, 07:17:29 PM
It is sort of an interesting idea, although I am not so sure implementation would be quite that easy.

I both agree and disagree when people say bitcoin could be used for something like this. Yep, travel shops could use btc. But the real value in this coin may not primarily even be from the ability to use it as a currency. It could have value as a form of advertising.

Shopowners/travel spots might agree to accept a travel coin alt, simply because the faucet increases traffic to their store. These same shopowners would be less likely to accept btc, as the OP can't set up freebie btc faucets across the world. So yes, btc could be used, but it offers no advantages to the shop owner, nor really to the consumer, in this case.

This travel coin then could be looked upon as sort of a coupon. So it does make some sense and in theory it could work.

But unless the OP has business connections already, I am not sure how easy it would be to set something like this up. Maybe start by contacting some travel agencies or travel-related websites, and see if you can get any interested.

When I first glanced at the youtube title,  I thought it said Mazacoin jumps into TransCanada pipeline. After Payu did that youtube stunt of jumping into a lake, almost nothing would surprise me at this point.

Down to 135 today. Even Bittrex is considering dropping it because of low volume. Soon this coin will be worth nothing, that's quite an achievement for a coin with so much mainstream publicity, a near impossible feat some would say, all down to AP and our beloved Payu.

These guys couldn't pour piss out of a boot with the instructions printed on the heel.

I think the last hurrah may be the cnn news story, assuming they even do it. It's possible for a pump around the time the filming takes place too, even if it's not shown on tv.

It is sinking faster than I expected, so if any pump takes place, it may end up being a pump to only 200ish. Or less. And it is weird at just how poorly the coin has done, and how the dev team basically did... well... seems like everything the wrong way.

The more I think about it too, the  coin even makes less sense now. Forget the price, but look at that little tribal compact that was written up by the maza people. My first thought was ... if part of the tribal council and I was presented with this, why would I agree to it? I mean, wouldn't they be better off just finding someone on the council, someone in the tribe, to do their own coding/make their own coin, and then they own both the code, coin and everything related to it?

As it is now, they have payu and some guy with a pirate logo, who they are supposed to trust. And it's not like Payu can go to them now and say here is 5-10M worth of crypto that we can give out. It's more like here is .50 we can give to each person... they can buy a pack of gum or half an apple with it.

Just did my mintpal voting, although personally I'm not so fond of the pay for vote scheme some exchanges use.

Another exchange to look at, maybe, is that kingcoiny exchange which isn't quite released yet. I'm hesitant to recommend any exchange before they open the doors, so am not saying for the devs to apply now. As for all we know it could be a wreck of an exchange. But their GUI looks interesting from the screenshots, so it's probably worth keeping an eye on and seeing how they do.

Although it's probably too early to think about it, we should try to get the coin listed on coin payments and similar services. A marketplace, similar to what Noble coin is doing, would be great and help a ton for the longterm success.

The coin has been holding pretty strong in value so far ... pleasantly surprised. It'll be really interesting if services start showing up for the coin, especially any marketplaces and such.

Thanks, I see the btc on its way now.

A couple of suggestions --

Perhaps put the paid version info in a horizontal line, sort of near the ad, rather than vertically as it is now. Right now it's taking up an inordinate amount of space in the app, with a lot of it being wasted space.

You don't really need the dollar image or the tiny, tiny screenshot of the full version, as it's sort of too small to read anyway.

Push the refresh button up so it's on the same level as the input box. When refreshing, have text beneath it pop up, stating so. As if the price doesn't change when refreshing, the user doesn't even know if it did anything.

Put a 'clear' button in beneath the input box, so the user can easily clear the data entered if he/she so wishes.
