I looked at his wikipedia page, and it looks like he may have some views that I strongly disagree with, assuming the page is accurate. I am not sure how prevalent these kinds of views are in his videos.

I would not defend someone who uses their platform to promote very bad things just because the person has some other views that I may agree with. If his Wikipedia page is accurate, it sounds like he has some pretty radical views with regards to race.
2502  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it worth hosting a lightning node? on: June 30, 2020, 05:47:10 AM

LN was designed for banks, if you are not a bank, you won't profit from running an LN hub.[/b]

I don't think there is evidence to support this statement.

Banks make money by accepting deposits, paying interest on said deposits at a rate less than the rate they lend out the deposits. As I have noted above, the amount LN node operators are earning is far less than deposit rates, and as such, a bank would not be profitable running a LN node.

LN node operators will likely benefit from economies of scale over the long run, and larger operators will likely earn more than smaller operators, however the barriers to entry will still be low.

I also don't think there is any basis for saying that becoming a LN node operator will require any kind of license. This will not be true as long as getting an on-chain transaction confirmed does not require a license. If a group of LN node operators (stupidly) tried to exclude anyone without a license, it would be trivial for other people to create their own LN network with other nodes that does not require a license.

...Trump dropping out would probably mostly stop the riots and the lockdowns. The later being especially strict with the intention of making the economy look bad for the incumbent, which would no longer matter if someone else is running.

If you believe this you are a fucking dope. This is order through chaos. These people are causing these disasters to try to show the population how much we need them so we run into their arms instead of imprison them and hang them for treason as they should be under the law. This isn't about Trump, Trump is just an impediment to their goals, and their goals align with this chaos regardless of who is in office.
BLM wants Communism, they say so on their website without as many words. They are being enabled by Democrat mayors and governors, with the intention of making Trump look bad. If Trump is off the ticket, BLM would still work towards Communism, however Democrat mayors and governors would stop putting up with the riots in most of the country, and places like Portland would come under immense political pressure to put a stop to the lawlessness.

Some republican operates are apparently considering the possibility that Trump drops out if his poll numbers do not improve.

I would consider the BLM riots to be another dirty political trick not unlike the Russia hoax. Trump's unwillingness to deal with them quickly has hampered his poll numbers and may end up sinking his presidency. In addition to not sending in the military to stop the riots, Trump has also badly fumbled his messaging during the riots.

Biden is an especially weak candidate, and I would suspect pretty much anyone could beat him. The debates could change Trump's polling numbers, but it may be too late to bring in a new candidate by then, considering the large number of absentee votes cast due to the coronavirus.

There are very loud voices scaring people out of admitting the truth, as the BLM propaganda machine appears to be especially strong. This may be causing some of Trump's current polling weakness as his supporters may be afraid to admit to supporting him.

I would say that a Biden win along with the Senate falling to democrats would mean that both the SC and Senate get packed with liberal votes.

This would be little more than self sabotage. I guarantee if they did this, people would leave the Republican party en-mass. Of course, perhaps this is the plan.
Trump has pretty radically changed the Republican platform and party from where it was even at the beginning of the 2016 election cycle. He was able to get a lot of independents and moderate Democrats to vote for him, but wasn’t able to get a lot of people to join the party.

Trump has mastered countering much of the traditional attacks via the media, however the media and other democrats have adopted and changed their attacks (the riots, and the Russia hoax), and he was unaware they were even dirty attacks until they were well underway.

As I mentioned, Biden is an especially weak candidate that most people should be able to easily beat.

Trump is currently unable to get any legislation passed Congress for the rest of his term, and he is limited as to how much he can do as an incumbent to change the polling numbers. Trump dropping out would probably mostly stop the riots and the lockdowns. The later being especially strict with the intention of making the economy look bad for the incumbent, which would no longer matter if someone else is running.
2505  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How to eliminate Large mining pools on: June 29, 2020, 01:46:23 PM
A pool could work like this:
The pool has 6 members, each with equal processing capacity.
Members A-D would work on the first phase, each on their own as if they were mining on their own account. Once one of the above members solved the first phase, they send the solution to a server, which sends it to one of members E-F who works on the second phase.
Each member will work on different work, will send their solution to a centralized server once they find a solution if applicable, and will share the rewards.

For starters, you don't even know where the snip came from.

Why is that?

Twitch has not provided a link. Don't know about you but I never accept a quote as accurate, complete, or even "not fake" unless verification of source and context is provided.
I am pretty sure it is from Bolton's book.

I have said before, and I would say that I still believe there is a hidden political objective with regards to Bolton.

It could be a trap to get Democrats to impeach based on flimsy evidence (again) for Bolton is recant. Or it could be an effort to get Trump to drop out of the race.

Prominent officials from both sides of the aisle have pointed out that Bolton's book is a cash grab. I shouldn't have to tell you that scandalous stories will sell more copies.

As it stands now, there is about as much evidence that Bolton's book is entirely accurate as there is evidence that the dossier on Trump created by Steele. I think most likely there is a lot of accurate information in both the dossier and Bolton's book, but also a lot of fabricated information, and it is difficult to determine what is true and what is made up.

It is like playing 'two truths and a lie', except you don't know the number of truths, nor lies.

2512  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it worth hosting a lightning node? on: June 27, 2020, 07:50:26 PM
<>

There are currently 25 nodes owned by LNbig.com. They provide about 52,19% (497,2647581 BTC out of 952,86 BTC) of the whole network's liquidity. I can't find any data on their recent earnings, but their Twitter account shares the amount of transactions and BTC passed through their nodes in the last 24 hours from time to time. You can clearly see the surge of the transactions in the last few months. Starting from 100-800 transactions in March and going to over 4000 in May. That is a huge change.

<>

The 3rd March seems to have been the most profitable day. 161 routed transactions worth 2.24602985 BTC paid in total 219484 sat (0.00219484 BTC) in fees. At the current price of Bitcoin ($9300), it is about $20! Still, don't forget about the amount of coins locked up in all the nodes and the cost of opening transaction all channels.

The 24th January is even more impressive to me. 186 routed transactions worth 0.60161437 BTC paid in total 172378 sat (0.00172378 BTC) in fees. It is about $16 now.

Alex Bosworth shared that his node charged 0.25% per transaction and routed about $10,000/month which translates to earnings of about $25/month. He didn't say which node he was referring to, but since he is the CEO of yalls.org, we can assume that it was this one. That is actually interesting because of the significantly smaller capital.

<>
If you have 497 btc, you can earn about 0.054 btc (~$490) per day on celsius lending your coin, and I would assume somewhat similar amounts on other lending sites.

It does not look like there is currently enough volume to make a lot running a LN node. The benefit to doing so now is to learn how to run a LN node, and work out the kinks if you want to run a node when volume is higher in the future.
2513  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: The Lightning Network FAQ on: June 27, 2020, 07:27:49 PM
If the majority of the network ends up charging as much as LNbig.com or even more then the LN will be mostly known for instant and more anonymous small transactions. Do you think that a $0.12 fee for a $30 transaction being way too high is an over-exaggeration? Consider that there could be longer routes consisting of nodes with similar fee settings. Still, I do agree that nodes should earn more than they do by default, because they might need to rebalance their channels at some point. As far as I remember, someone proposed to increase the default fee settings (the basefee from 1 sat to 5 sat and the feerate from 1 to 500).
I would expect the LN fees (as set by the market) to be a function of among other things, the amount of traffic on the LN network.

LN nodes have fixed operating costs to keep the node running, and have the costs associated with opening, and closing their channels. The incremental operating costs associated with processing two LN transactions of approximately equal value, one in each direction of a channel would be very low. As transaction volume increases, node operators can lower their fees to operate on a profitable basis.
2514  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Captcha bypass v2 on: June 27, 2020, 07:16:46 PM
After verifying that you made the payment, you will get Captcha bypass register/login link: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=login;ccode=cec3dfdXXXXXXXX.
Use that link to create an account and log in. Cheesy
The process would need to work like this:
The person will need to obtain the bypass link at the same time they obtain the payment address. The bypass link will only allow you to register via bypassing the captcha after the payment address has the required number of confirmations.

There are some ethical considerations with your proposal. I would assume most people will pay to bypass the captcha using tor, and anyone registering with a tor exit node will need to pay a 'units of evil' fee to enable posting. If someone were to pay to bypass the captcha to register, it would be unethical to require them to also pay an additional 'units of evil' fee. This means the price would need to be greater than $1 as you propose, and should be closer to the upper bound of the 'units of evil' fee, which is the cost of a copper membership.
2515  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Make it just a little more difficult to create a new account. on: June 26, 2020, 05:36:43 PM
This wouldn’t be difficult to implement, but it also would not be difficult to bypass via a bot parsing the numbers being displayed and solving the problem. Parsing handwritten numbers is considered the “hello world” of neural networks (machine learning models often used on images), and the bar to beat this countermeasure would be low.
Any arithmetic or word re-entry question would be an easy workaround for account spammers. Specific image recognition is harder considering one would have to have input material to gauge the data. I certainly wouldn't mind a "this IP is evil" marker ere to account registration, though: you might say that it would be a tool better used by those that are mass-creating accounts, but given that the difference for them is changing usernames and exit node connections for their network, I think the benefits are more in the Newbies' favor.

What would your reaction be, if your first experience signing up to the forum was to be slammed in the face with a paywall? There goes that username, by the way... unless you want to pay up!
It is not difficult to classify images using a neural network. Take a look at this competition in kaggle. Data scientists created models to classify pictures of flowers into one of 100 different types of flowers. I don’t think even most flower experts would be able to classify flowers as well as some of the models created were able to. There are publicly available models that can classify images into one of a broad range of categories.

I don’t think it is unreasonable to have a cheap paywall for certain IP addresses. Most people are able to pay a few dollars to sign up for a forum account, but this is prohibitively expensive for a spammer signing up hundreds/thousands of accounts.
2516  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: Make it just a little more difficult to create a new account. on: June 26, 2020, 05:07:22 PM
Making new account harder to create will only scare genuine new people, and it will not stop scammers and spammers.
Even now lot of people report that they can't create account until they pay evil fee, as they probable use shared IP address.
But adding some sign up quiz random questions can maybe slow spammers down

answering 3 Questions that need a little research may work.

or better yet 3 math problems.
add three 3 digit numbers

111+123+140 =   374

or four problems

add four 4 digit numbers

1001+1002+1003+1004 = 4010

Yeah have a script generate 4 random number tell the person add the 4.

once a correct answer is given have a 60 second clock count down to next set of four 4 digit numbers

The only real way to prevent bots from solving problems is to use a Adversarial network that adds noise to images that the user needs to classify. This is difficult without knowing the model a potential adversary is using to classify the image via automation.

Actually this order is prima-face evidence of racism against White people. The order is also clearly unconstitutional as it violates the 14th amendment on the basis that it does not provide for equal protection under the law and the 1st amendment on the basis that it forces speech.

Before I do this, I want to know if this would be legal in the United States without a license as testnet coins have no value and I will not be exchanging any real value coins on the exchange. Nor giving testnet coins any value at all as I will not have options to exchange to real coins.
You should retain a lawyer who can provide legal advice specific to your situation.

I don’t see any major benefit to what you are proposing. Trading on an exchange is a matter of updating database values. Displaying BTC or tBTC is a matter of updating the UI.

Testnet coins are intended to allow you to test your program’s ability to do things such as sign/broadcast transactions, detect incoming transactions, use coin control, and other wallet functions that occur on chain.

If Chauvin gets off, I don't think it'll be because of the prosecutor's record. I don't think the defense will invoke Ellison's domestic abuse past with all the other evidence that's available. Regardless if he gets off or not, I thought this was a clear cut case of murder when I watched the video. Now it seems more like poor department policy and potential negligence than anything else.
I don’t think it would be appropriate for a judge to allow the defense to bring up personal shortcomings of the prosecutor in a criminal case.

The reason for my prediction is that I believe the DA will intentionally throw the case to push a political narrative that benefits his party. This would also likely create additional riots. Ideally this won’t happen until after the election and Trump will be more willing to institute a zero tolerance policy on rioting.

Trump recently said that he decided against sending in the troops to allow Americans to see how badly liberals are running their cities. I strongly disagree with this (this is partly based on my living in a major liberal city), as it is the presidents job to protect all Americans.
