2501  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: AMD Releases Driver for DAG Issue !!! on: August 25, 2017, 07:50:07 PM
Anyone here tried using the Win 7 driver with the Genoil eth miner program? Wondering if that maybe will work.

To quote from 3 posts before yours about my attempt to use this driver on a fresh Win 7 install,  "NO OPENCL SUPPORT both per GPU-Z and from trying to run openCL software like the DNet client, Claymore ZEC miner, and both Genoil and QTMiner for ETH - no matter what I tried, it flat out WOULD NOT INSTALL OpenCL."

Do note that Genoil was specifically listed as one of the programs I TRIED on it.

I can't speak to anything other than the R9 290 and A10-7860K specifically, but it doesn't work under Win 7 with a card it OFFICIALLY LISTS AS SUPPORTED....

Did you try installing the OpenCL runtime libraries from the AMD APP-SDK?

http://developer.amd.com/amd-accelerated-parallel-processing-app-sdk

No, as the needed OpenCL runtime files have traditionally for years been INCLUDED IN THE DRIVERS.

In fact, I can't REMEMBER the last time I needed to install those seprately in order to run OpenCL applications under Windows.

So far Dash value is not going up with Dash diff.  There was a bit of a spike earlier this week but the two are not moving in sync.

I keep trying to tell people but too many don't listen.

 Hashrate/Diff DOES NOT DICTATE PRICE.

Hashrate/Diff FOLLOWS price as folks see something get more profitable and move to it (when they can).

Still, despite his huge firepower, it would take him about 30 years to take over Ed...

You're assuming Ed won't add more rigs to fight off the challenge.
 He's done so before.

It would be nice if the bitcoinwisdom guy would update his website - he seems to have largely ignored it most of the last year and some, and the "freezeups" are getting irritating.

Seems like quite a few folks have been "bouncing" between BTC and BCC the last few days, since BCC price went up enough to be competative on profitability, per https://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate?timespan=30days

Unfortunately, that chart doesn't track diff, but https://blockchain.info/charts/difficulty does.

2505  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any solution for mining on: August 25, 2017, 07:29:50 PM
I was just wondering, if there any alternative of costly mining to save tons of machines running consuming ele 24*7  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

is there any coin with no mining  Grin ? mining is also a form of politics as we are seeing in bitcoin cases..

Hi,

You can do Merged Mining Dogecoin and Litecoin.

http://altpool.poolarchy.com/

Which part of "with no mining" did you not understand?
Also, most current Litecoin pools include merged mining of more than DOGE - Litecoinpool in particular has a NEGATIVE fee because they merge-mine and keep the merge-mined coin to pay their costs to run the pool then feed some of the leftover funds back TO the miners.

2506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain drops price of D3 for second batch by $1100. WTF on: August 25, 2017, 07:14:53 PM
Why do you even line up to buy miners in the first place?

If you believe that a coin has a future just buy it. Unless it is mineable with the stuff everybody can purchase anywhere in the world, it doesn't make a bit of sense to buy specialized mining hardware. That's the most stupid investment one can make. You are basically buying highly advanced calculators. The more people buy them, the more worthless they'll become. See where i am getting at?

HDD mining, GPU mining are OK. ASIC mining is not. It is cancer to crypto world. Don't buy this shit.

Lower risk then investment, if you pay attention to the fundimentals.

As a specific example, my A2 farm achieved 100% ROI sometime LAST YEAR - despite Scrypt coins all being pretty much flat over the timeframe between when I bought them and when they paid themselves off.
If I had "invested" in Litecoin instead of buying those miners, I'd have LOST money (though not a lot) over that entire timeframe - instead, I have quite a bit earned and my A2 farm is STILL pulling in serious profits, to the tune right now of about 30% of my investment into them per month NET AFTER ELECTRIC USAGE.

You can't COUNT on a "skyrocket" happening.
Looking at the last 5 months is 20/20 hindsight that "investing" would have paid off more than mining as there was NO WAY to predict that almost all altcoins would jump so high so fast, and therefore stating that investing is BETTER based on that period is a strawman argument - and as it happens us miners STILL made a ton, and are positioned for the FUTURE to make a ton more with long since paid off gear.

Also, you're not investing in a SINGLE coin - all ASIC based miners can mine multiple coins - though they can't mine as wide a range of coins as GPUs can, they CAN mine more different coins than exist for HDD mining AND have a higher rate of return even over the last few months. BURST in particular has been getting hammered so hard by the various attacks on it's infrastructure and the resulting crash in coin price that it's bloody near impossible to pay off a HD used to mine it with before the drive DIES - which is NOT the general case for ASIC miners.

You should also keep in mind that the landscape of mining hit a major change when Bitmain released the S9 - for the first time, mining ASIC are running on the CURRENT SEMICONDUCTOR STATE OF THE ART. You're not looking at a few months between generations any more, you're looking at YEARS before a new generation of semiconductor tech will make current ASIC miners outdated and uncompetative.

I also fail to understand how you can be so down on ASIC and so up on GPU for mining, they both do the same thing but the GPU is LESS EFFICIENT at it.
2507  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain drops price of D3 for second batch by $1100. WTF on: August 25, 2017, 07:07:58 PM
Why can't we order the November batch on bitmaintech?  Wink

Because they all sold out quite quickly, with one exception that seems to have been quite a bit larger and actually took ballpark 2 days to sell out.

2508  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Do i really need a good internet connection and a good pc to use an antminer s7? on: August 25, 2017, 07:00:30 PM
I wonder if a rasberry pi is good enough as a computer. You guys already said the computer specs don't really matter, just the internet connection. I'll have to research on that later.

 You're missing the point.

The S7 already HAS a computer built into it (something similar to a Pi, if not an actual Pi) - you don't need a seprate computer to run it with AT ALL.

The only thing you need a computer for is to run a browser to go into the "web site" control on the S7 to set it up.

I think this is the most damaging photo on their website.

If you look at the wall outlets, especially the two round recessed ones.  That is not how the USA place outlets.

European style - not used in NORTH AMERICA (much less the US).

I'm pretty sure that style is also used in some Commonwealth countries (but NOT Canada, which follows pretty close on US standards) and some of the Colonial area European ex-colonies.
Not sure about Asia, been too many decades since I've been there and I don't remember what their outlets looked like in the places I DID visit.

Has anyone bought from Bitmain before? How long is the shipping from China?

I believe it took about a week, couple years ago or so when I bought a couple of S5 units from them.

2512  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: August 25, 2017, 12:32:38 AM
AMD card for ETH, Nvidia card for ETH.

Sometimes other coin will gain more, but ETH always back to his throne.

Yeah man...you tell everyone...of wait

Eth is way down the list for Nvidia on the 1080 ti

You don't buy the 1080ti if you want to mine ETH, you buy AMD RX 470/480/570/580 or GTX 1060 cards for THAT.

GTX 1070 is also a good ETH miner, but now that AMD RX card pricing is starting to drop back down and availability is improving the GTX 1070 is no longer effective on a $/hash basis for ETH mining.

2513  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Fifth alt coin thread last four got too big. on: August 25, 2017, 12:29:34 AM
good deal on the amd ryzen 1800x

I will sit on this cpu for just a bit while looking for a good mobo

Phil - whats a good mobo for the 1800? Prefer with onboard on/off buttons. Thanks

I'd be inclined to go with something ASRock, but I've not actually aquired any Ryzen gear to date - and given the ongoing question marks about how well Windows 7 is going to support Ryzen, I'm not strongly inclined to do so right now.

I DID price out a potential Ryzen 1200 based build to try to replace my current "go-to" AM3+ based platform, but it ended up being too expen$ive for what I needed to do.

I refuse to have anything to do with Windows 10 ever again - it's been too much of a nightmare on the one GAMING machine I run it on.
2514  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Launching the Antminer L3+, World's Most Powerful and Efficient Litecoin Miner on: August 25, 2017, 12:25:21 AM
I had the LTC on hand to buy one, but they gave such SHORT notice I never even realised the batch went up for sale 'till after the fact.

Up side - I ended up selling the LTC at a profit into the big "spike" on Bittrex.

Time to go look at an A4 buy.

2515  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Protein Folding Research based Proof of Work on: August 25, 2017, 12:20:49 AM

70x1080s!!!
That's about 15kW power and heat.
Have you just moved to Greenland or some icy area like that? Cheesy
Let's see Ed's and Cure4All's responses Smiley

More - my triple rig 1080 pulls almost 800 watts, if his are all single-card rigs he's probably pulling more like 25-30KW.

2516  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]CureCoin - Protein Folding Research based Proof of Work on: August 25, 2017, 12:17:30 AM

Not in university any more, I'm doing crypto stuff full time. Don't worry, I haven't abandoned the project at all, cool stuff is coming very soon.

Dang, wish I could afford that many GPUs.

Took me long enough to get to 24....

2517  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Can I add different Nvidia 1060 GTX to the same rig ? on: August 25, 2017, 12:09:41 AM
If the GPU is same, then there is no problem at all.. but note that when you are mining, the AMP cards will probably lower its clock to match the other cards so that all of them run at the same frequency.

I currently RUN quite a few different NVidia cards on multi-card rigs, NEVER the same models in each rig (most have a single Gigabyte ITX 1070 and a pair of full-length 1070 models) - the ITX NEVER runs at the same clock as the other 2 cards.

The higher-factory-OC cards will NOT limit themselves to the same clock just because they are in a system with a different card of the same model - that is BAD INFORMATION.

As a specific example, I had a Gigabyte 1080ti Windforce and a Gigabyte 1080ti Aorus in one system - the Aorus NORMALLY clocked about 100 Mhz higher than the Windforce, even with both set at the same Afterburner settings - it also ran a bit cooler due to the much better cooling solution, which is probably the main reason it clocked higher.

2518  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Any solution for mining on: August 25, 2017, 12:03:13 AM
Ethereum is planning to move TO a Proof of Stake model - it has not DONE SO yet.

Tail end of the year or early next year per their current roadmap for the first move in that direction, and it's planned to be a "phase-in" thing so they might not be full POS 'till mid-to-late next year - IF they don't push it back again (it's been pushed back a FEW times already).

2519  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Anyone Switching from Mining BTC to BCC/BCH? on: August 25, 2017, 12:00:58 AM
Even if I HAD any SHA256 miners, I would not support the BCH blatant attempt to rip off the Bitcoin name.

2520  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Diff contest Aug 9 to Aug?.Prize a black sealed Trezor wallet. Picks are closed. on: August 24, 2017, 11:58:32 PM
Nothing new there, just a bit bigger for now ('till BCH attention span dies down to the level of all of the other SHA256 based coins).
