2521  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: problems to restore old Wallet on: April 14, 2022, 07:28:36 PM
If you check the BIP39 and the 'next' still grey out after entering your seed phrase, then that seed phrase is not correct.
If you check "BIP39" in the desktop version of electrum, it's impossible that the "Next" button is grayed out.

If you enter a valid BIP39 seed phrase (I mean a BIP39 seed phrase passing checksum), electrum shows a message saying "BIP39 (checksum: OK)"
If you enter an invalid seed phrase, but all the words are still in BIP39 wordlist, electrum shows a message saying "BIP39 (checksum: failed)"
If you enter words that are not in BIP39 wordlist, electrum shows a message saying "BIP39 (unknown wordlist)"

In all three cases, electrum allows you to create a wallet.

If you check "BIP39" in the mobile version, electrum allows you to generate a wallet only with a valid BIP39 seed phrase.

To OP:
If you check BIP39 in the desktop version and electrum displays a message saying checksum is failed, it still allows you to click on "Next" button and create a wallet, but that doesn't mean you have entered a correct seed phrase.
2522  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: problems to restore old Wallet on: April 14, 2022, 02:31:32 PM
Have you generated the seed phrase using electrum?
As mentioned by OmegaStarScream, the seed you entered isn't a valid electrum's seed.

If the seed phrase has been generated using a different wallet, there's a big possibility that it's a BIP39 seed phrase. If that's the case, you need to click on "options" and check "BIP39".
2523  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are your coins really safe stored in your wallet? on: April 14, 2022, 07:52:21 AM
First of all note that your bitcoin is not stored in your wallet. Your coins are stored in the blockchain.
The blokchain is shared between many people and there are thousands of full nodes that validate transactions. In bitcoin we are not dealing with a centralized party.

Your wallet only stores your keys and you use them for making transactions. As long as these keys are kept safe, no one can have access to your bitcoin.

1-Do i have to sweep my private key to empty the blockchain.com wallet from funds
You don't have to. But it's recommended to do so.
Blockchain.com is a close-source wallet and we don't know whether your private keys are stored in their server or not. So, it's better to move your fund to a new wallet with a new seed phrase.
Create a new wallet in electrum. You can either make a transaction to one of addresses of your new waller or sweep your private keys.

2- Lets say if i want to move the funds again from electrum to Exodus how i can do this
That's very easy.
You can go to send tab and make a transaction to the address generated by exodus. But I don't recommend to do so.
Electrum is open-source and is much more secure than Exodus. It's better to keep the fund in the wallet generated by electrum.
2525  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Restoring Armory 1.35c wallet on: April 13, 2022, 03:52:15 PM
I'm typing it because that's the only option, it's on paper.
The only thing that comes to my mind is that you are entering at least 1 character wrongly.
I recommend you to scan the QR code using a QR code scanner and then copy-paste the root key into that tool.
2526  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Restoring Armory 1.35c wallet on: April 13, 2022, 11:45:22 AM
That's weird, I can't get it to match the UID.  I'll keep trying.
This means that you are entering a wrong root key.
How do you enter the root key? Do you type it? Just copy it from your backup and paste it in brainwalletx. It should be entered with the correct format.

If I import it into armory, is there anyway to check in armory if the wallet ID is matching?
You can try it. But it should generate the same addresses and the same ID as that tool.
Again, brainwalletx doesn't generate segwit addresses.

A question:
Have you backed up the wallet yourself or you have got the backup from someone?
I hope someone isn't trying to scam you.
2527  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Restoring Armory 1.35c wallet on: April 13, 2022, 10:33:20 AM
To test how it exactly works, I just generated a wallet on Armory and entered its root key in brainwalletx.
Whether you enter extra space at the end of lines or not, it generates the same addresses.
So, both formats should work.

Do you know any addresses of your wallet? As mentioned by nc50lc, this tool doesn't generate segwit addresses (addresses that start with 3 or bc1).
2528  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Transaction not found in mempool on: April 13, 2022, 08:21:47 AM
Maybe it was because I sent it with the lowest possible fee of 1 Satoshi/byte when I did so yesterday, could this have been the error so for next time I will make sure to send it with some more Satoshi as fees?
Currently, the mempool is almost empty and even transactions paying 1 sat/vbyte should be confirmed very fast. Note that even if the network is so busy, usually transactions paying 1 sat/vbyte can still be broadcast to the network.
The problem was probably from Exodus which didn't broadcast your transaction and there was no need to pay 9 sat/byte for your transaction.
2529  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is there a way to import coins into a Bitcoin Core wallet? on: April 12, 2022, 08:42:27 PM
What I'm looking for is a way to import a coin (UTXO) into the wallet so that it can be considered when calculating the inputs for a transaction.
You can use the following command and import the private key of the address holding the UTXO.

Code:
importprivkey "YourPrivateKey"

Note that you can use coin control feature to specify which UTXOs you want to use for your transaction.
2530  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Restoring Armory 1.35c wallet on: April 12, 2022, 07:47:18 PM
Tried this tool - http://brainwalletx.github.io/  chains tab, armory and put in the 18 4 char alphas in the paper backup text box. This generates addresses but none of them have anything in them (at least not the first 20 and the tool seems to be limited to generating the first 100)
If you enter the root key correctly, it should generate the correct addresses.
If you don't see any transaction in the generated addresses, either you entered a wrong root key or the wallet has never received any fund.

If I can find a secure windows or linux machine to use, what version of Armory should I try?
You should always use the latest version of Armory. There were some bugs and a vulnerability that have been fixed in the latest version.
2531  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Newbie question; can a particular digital signature work for several transactio on: April 12, 2022, 11:17:44 AM
My issue is whether this signature can be used for several transactions.
If this was possible, anyone could steal other UTXOs from your address.
Note that any data you broadcast (including your digital signature) is public and anyone can see that. This is exactly why for proving our ownership, we broadcast a signature instead of our private key.
2532  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: "bitcoin-qt.exe" closing without any errors on an old (locked&encrypted) wallet. on: April 12, 2022, 10:57:41 AM
here I get the result "null", which should be OK (null is OK? )
It's OK. It means that the passphrase you entered was correct and the wallet was decrypted successfully.

importwallet wallet.dat.backup
You can also use the following command and import the private key of your address.

Code:
importprivkey "YourPrivateKey"

2534  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum Features - Less is More on: April 12, 2022, 07:57:45 AM
Advaned features such as lightening, coin control and console have been located in separate tabs and I don't think they make any confusion for newbies. By default, these tabs are not visible and any user who enables them should have some information about them.

In my opinion, the only thing which may need to change is how invoices work.
The expiry time makes many newbies think that addresses expire and they have to make the transaction before that time. In my opinion, it would be better if electrum only generated an address once a user clicks on "New address" button and there was another button for creating requests.
2535  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 2FA confusion on: April 12, 2022, 07:22:51 AM
Google Authentication 2FA belongs to Google, thats a good example of a centralized entity mate,
The 2FA code is generated using a known algorithm. It's not that you always rely on google for getting 2FA code. You can get the correct code, even if you are not connected to the internet.
You can also use other 2FA applications like Aegis and get the same code.

We don't have 2FA on non-custodial wallets, because these kind of wallets contain your private keys and your private key is all you need to make a transaction. This makes 2FA useless. Anyone who has access to your private key can have access to your fund and make transaction without your permission. In other words, 2FA can't protect your private key.
2536  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: "Connection to Bitcoin Core client lost!" How to fix? on: April 11, 2022, 06:40:39 PM
Didn't you download the blockchain in prune mode?
If pruning was enabled when downloading the blockchain, you don't have the full blockchain now and Armory can't get online.

and I have not received any of the BTC I send to this address.
If you have sent the fund to the correct address, you have received the fund and you will see your balance whenever Armory is synced.
2537  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do not trust this devil woman, she wants Bitcoin dead on: April 11, 2022, 05:56:41 PM
I think Janet Yellen is old, today she says Negative tomorrow she says positive about Bitcoin, even though she is currently the US Secretary of the Treasury.
She has never said anything positive about bitcoin and she will never do so.
There isn't a single mention of bitcoin in her speech. I am sure she doesn't even know how bitcoin works.

She and all other politicians who talk about cryptocurrencies only know that it's new thing and think that they can use this innovation to prevent their national currency from collapsing.
They think they can combine their centralized currency and blockchain (not real blockchain, the blockchain they like) and have a new shape of currency which is still in their full control. They think people will prefer their stable coin to bitcoin. But I don't see any difference between fiat and a stable coin issued by governments.
2538  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Without banking bitcoins will be work on: April 11, 2022, 04:44:38 PM
I don't know what will happen in the future. But whatever happens, there should be a payment system, so people can use it for their buys and sells.

How will you buy a cup of tea in the unlikely event there is no bank? You will be able to buy and sell bitcoin in the same way.
It's also possible that in the future with mass adoption of bitcoin, you can buy and sell everything with bitcoin and there is no need to change bitcoin to fiat at all.
2539  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Keeping coins on Wallets on: April 11, 2022, 04:27:31 PM
I will try purchase little by little whenever i will be able and will use Electrum as you friends advised me.
Electrum is surely a good wallet and it's usually the first wallet which comes to my mind whenever someone asks me to recommend a wallet.
As I said in my previous post, electrum can be used as both hot and cold wallets.
With using electrum, you don't guarantee the safety of your coins. It depends on how you use electrum.

If you generate the wallet on a device which is connected to internet, there's still the possibility that you get hacked.
If you want 100% security on electrum, you should generate the wallet on an airgapped device and keep the seed phrase and private keys always offline.
2540  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: A decentralized 2FA would make sense, don't you think? on: April 11, 2022, 09:00:22 AM
Do you mean having a 2FA wallet without relying on a third party?
If so, that's impossible.

In every bitcoin transaction, you need the private key for making the transaction (multiple private keys and public keys, if you have a multi-signature address).
The purpose of a 2FA wallet is that the private keys are not stored in your wallet. So, there is no way other than giving the private key to a third party, getting a 2FA code instead of that and asking them to make a transaction.

The only solution is to have a multi-signature wallet in which you have access to minimum number of required private keys. Like electrum 2FA wallet in which a third party is still involved and that was discussed in your other topic.
