Do you really not see Trumps pattern of authoritarian tendencies?

Attacking the media, contradicting science, spreading misinformation, seizing power from congress...

How is Trump seizing power from Congress? The senate has full authority to block a vote on a nominee if they please. Democrats have threatened to pack the courts if they don't get what they want here, which is basically seizing power from congress so judges can legislate from the bench.

I wasn't referring to the recent SCOTUS news.

Some examples of things he's done to weaken the legislative branch and increase the executive banch:

-Diverted military funding to pay for the border wall without congressional approval.

-Withheld funds that congress had already signed off on  to help Ukraine in order to pressure the Ukrainian president to publicly announce an investigation into Biden.

-Refuses to allow House leaders to be briefed on military strikes or potential military strikes - I think he said something like 'my tweets are your briefing'.

It’s completely impossible that Trump just wants to do well for the United States.. Right?

Yes. He repeatedly attacks groups comprising most of US population, like immigrants, Democrats, or women, so it's safe to say that he doesn't consider himself as working for them, let alone wants "to do well" for them.

Well I disagree..
It’s about doing well for the future of the country, not doing well for those who don’t care about the future of the country..

Immigrants and democrats don’t care about the future of the country, mostly.. They just care about what they think is shortsightedly best for themselves, and most women are too sympathetic to put logic before feelings and put freedom and opportunity of prosperity before giving free stuff to poor people..

If you want to try the power hungry authoritarian card, that lies squarely at the feet of the democrats/left..

Increase immigration of people that do not hold the values this country was founded on so they can vote selfishly.. Increase taxes on the real value creators to make life easier on the net negative taxpayers (getters).. Ban guns so people feel safer in more temporary security.. Reduce freedom of speech so people don’t get their feelings hurt.. Increase the scotus judge count above 9 so the founding principles can more easily be trampled.. “Mandate masks nationwide”.. Further socialize healthcare..
And on and on and on..

Clown world..

Do you really not see Trumps pattern of authoritarian tendencies?

Attacking the media, contradicting science, spreading misinformation, seizing power from congress...

Well blow me down with a feather... I never knew Trump was once-upon-a-time Democrat. I knew he socialised with the Clintons but never knew they were at his wedding to Melania.

Why did he change his "pro" views and why did he become a Republican?

~snip~

He was a registered Democrat not long ago.  He was pro-choice, pro gay marriage, donated to Clinton campaign and invited Bill and Hillary to his most recent wedding.  I doubt he really cares what SCOTUS looks like other than how it can be best leveraged to help him politically.

I think pretty much everything he does is to either gain more power or not lose the power he already has.  Issues like abortion or gay rights don't affect him directly, so, he sides with whoever he thinks will help him the most with his ultimate goal - with the exception of when he acts out of spite.

Hope we can get one more good scotus pick..
It is the main reason real conservatives vote trump..

So what do you think will happen if he lets one get confirmed before the election?

Was just thinking about it...seems like his best play is to sabotage whoever he nominates and blame the democrats.

After RGBs seat, it's unlikely there will be another opening in the next decade let alone next 4 years. Think about it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but Trump letting a confirmation happen or seem inevitable before election day seems like it would be a big mistake.

What? No...
SCOTUS picks are more important than him winning the election..
If the main reason for electing him is to install good conservative judges, why would I want him to delay appointing a judge?

He should most definitely slam one through while he can, Incase he loses in November..
SCOTUS picks should not be some pawn to be toyed with to try to gain a little edge in an election..

I'm saying from Trumps perspective.

He was a registered Democrat not long ago.  He was pro-choice, pro gay marriage, donated to Clinton campaign and invited Bill and Hillary to his most recent wedding.  I doubt he really cares what SCOTUS looks like other than how it can be best leveraged to help him politically.

With the court packing threats my theory is kind of shot though since conservatives that only vote for Trump because of SCOTUS picks will still be motivated to do so if he gets a nominee through before the election.

Every vote counts, and every impression on voters count. I don't know if you read the comments section of WSJ online articles, but there is a "Kevin Smith" who posts thousands of posts over time, almost all as replies to the most 'upvoted' (aka top, and most read) comments, maximizing the number of views his posts gets. This "Kevin Smith" (I am nearly certain this is a fake name) is feverishly anti-Trump, and would be surprised if he is not getting paid one way or another to post.

If an operative can pass themselves off as a person of casual interest, the impact of their posts can be higher for a voter. This is something i am seeing here.

The best example of this is covered in depth in this report.  (Volume 1, Section 2)

Trump is or has been a bit sexually aggressive.

According to Ivana Trump, Donald was mad she recommended a doctor that fucked up his loose scalp procedure.  So he ripped her hair out, threw her against the wall and raped her.

Crooked Media, the organization started by former top Obama staffers that is behind popular podcast Pod Save America, said Saturday that donations to their fundraiser "Get Mitch or Die Trying," which distributes donations between 13 Democrats targeting seats held by Republican senators, are significantly up.

Unfortunately McTurtle can still fill the position during the lame duck session... regardless how the election goes.

Crooked Media has some really great podcasts (for those who don't mind listening to former Obama staffers).

Comparing Trumps parade of women with accusations from sexual assault to rape over the past few decades to Bidens single allegation of finger rape and a bunch of 'he made me feel uncomfortable/hugged me too long/kissed the back of my head' allegations isn't really fair.  ....

Trump has never denied his appetite for women. Think back. He was attacked with the story of one by ... who?

CPL.

And then, the #metoo movement arose. You could indirectly, give Trump credit for that entire movement.

lol...

Harvey Weinstein gets the credit for metoo after he was exposed in October 2017.

The first public allegations against Trump were in 1989 for rape.

In my case, it's quite simple. Some years ago there was a company I used for various jobs, the CEO was somewhat like trump. Annoying, rude, said the wrong things at the wrong times, on and on. But guess what? Everyone used this guy because he was simply the best, if you wanted great work done on time error free at a great price, you used him.

You're getting duped - do a little research.

Trump has a history of fucking over people he does business with, getting away with it, and then simply lying about it for the next time.  Over and over and over again.

His casinos, the airline, Trump University, Trump Steak, the list goes on...the guy's a scammer.  Basically the only thing he's been truly successful at is building his own brand, being a reality TV star, burying people with lawsuits and getting elected president.
2574  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump: Former model Amy Dorris alleges sexual assault in 1997 on: September 17, 2020, 12:58:03 PM
How will this allegation affect the re-election chances Trump has?

Probably as much as the Tara Reade allegation that Joe Biden has levied against him; A whopping zero. There's been dozens of sexual assault allegations against Trump which haven't produced any evidence. If there's any sort of evidence against him that is released, that's when people, including me, will care.

Joe Biden is in the same corner. You have the Tara Reade allegation (I did a detailed write up here which is a fair assessment imo https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5237990.msg54406308#msg54406308). You also have a few women who've came forward accusing Joe Biden of touching them inappropriately, who Kamala Harris has said she believes, yet that doesn't seem to sway people.

Comparing Trumps parade of women with accusations from sexual assault to rape over the past few decades to Bidens single allegation of finger rape and a bunch of 'he made me feel uncomfortable/hugged me too long/kissed the back of my head' allegations isn't really fair.  Neither is 'I will care when there's evidence', imo, you might as well just say you don't care because the chances of someone having a video of the assault is nearly zero and any other evidence wouldn't be enough.  All you can do is look at the information available and form an opinion.

Also just want to make it clear that Kamala said she believed the accusers that when women were coming forward about him doing inappropriate things like kissing them on the back of the head or putting his hand on their back for too long or rubbing noses with them.  It was a year before Tara Reade said he finger banged her without consent.  Lots of conservative media are intentionally making the situation out as if Kamalas "them" included Reade. (this is not in response to your comment about Kamala Gyfts, I don't think you misrepresented the situation)

I gotta admit I have wondered why defending trump was so darn easy.

Yeah, gas lighting and ad hominem attacks don't require much effort at all.

Not sure why Trump is still doing this, but the base support isn't going away so I guess it's fair to assume that his base likes this and they think that the risk of COVID is non existent or low (and with that, blown out of proportion by the media / the dems)

I just don't understand how Woodward has this recording of Trump which anyone can go listen to which shows Trump KNOWS Covid is deadly. I just don't understand the rational behind still doing things like this. Are his advisors signing off on this sort of thing or like----?Huh??

Confusion, big confusion.

Can you make a coherent statement about your confusion or is your confusion confused?

Seems pretty clear to me.

Why does Trump keep doing stupid shit like sit for a bunch of interviews with the guy known for exposing Nixon and then tell him on the record that the virus he's been telling America is no big deal, is actually very deadly.

And now here we are, book comes out today death count almost 200k, .... it's a good question.

Yeah I mean I don't think what I wrote was too confusing to understand.

Why sit for an interview with someone who you know is looking for blood? (Which is something that me and SuchMoon were talking about in another thread) You know the guy is a good journalist as well who has the ability to take you down, or at least kill your approval ratings a bit. And you still sit down and talk to him? I don't get it.

Just avoid the media 1:1's and practice a ton with advisors on the best way to frame things, while still keeping the whole Trump style of things. As that is apart of his brand, and his supporters like it.

He didn't sit for Woodwards first book about him, and I remember he was pissed when it came out.

Possible he thought 'that book made me look bad because I let them convince me not to talk to him.  I'm just going to tell him everything and then it will be a good book.  a great book.  the most incredible book you've ever seen etc...'

Also, Woodward is def up there among legendary journalists...might've just turned Trump on so much he couldn't say no.  And then went back 15 more times.
2579  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Donald Chump: a Dimwit Man-Child made President on: September 15, 2020, 05:25:58 AM
I'm not seeing it as that deadly

You're not alone.  Millions of Americans find Trump more credible than experts.  Even now, with almost 200k deaths and proof that he was aware in Feb of how deadly it was, they find a way to convince themselves that Trump was telling the truth when he was downplaying it and comparing it to the flu to make it seem like not a big deal.

Pretty nuts.
