261  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin dealing massive blow to Western Union on: February 11, 2015, 11:57:54 PM
I've never understood people comparing Bitcoin to a business. Western Union is a business. Bitcoin is an ACH/EFT replacement system. Western union could decide to use Bitcoin to transfer money tomorrow and it would still be the same business. They would just be using a different transfer method.

What don't you understand? Why would I pay Western Union $50 to send $1000 via bitcoin if I can do it myself for free. Or at worst 2-3% fee if I purchase bitcoin with my CC.

As I said, you can call anything what you want, even start a bunch of new languages, like modern science is doing.

Mainstream science started to redefine truth a long time ago:

“The charge of circular reasoning in stratigraphy [the study of layers in the ground] can be handled in several ways. [1] It can be ignored, as not the proper concern of the public. [2] It can be denied, by calling down the Law of Evolution. [3] It can be admitted, as a common practice … [4] or it can be avoided, by pragmatic reasoning.”

-Cambrian Explosion : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambrian_explosion
-Who created the Univers?

Good science fiction article in that Wiki.   Cheesy

Evolution and the story of the Univers and Earth is incredible and fascinating; what exists is as incredible as what we see/read in SF; there are probably a lot of advanced forms of life on other planets, some most probably way more advanced than us

That's a nice thought, but we've never seen any evidence of that.

Okay, here is a paper completely destroying the man-tracks argument.  http://www.asa3.org/ASA/PSCF/1988/PSCF9-88Hastings.html

Also https://www.nabt.org/websites/institution/File/pdfs/american_biology_teacher/2014/ABT_Online_April_2014.pdf

It is extremely entertaining for a young-earth creationist to call somebody ignorant.  You're throwing away every bit of evidence science has found for evolution and clinging onto some fake tracks so you can believe in your skydaddy

It doesn't destroy anything, imo. I don't even see Patton's name mentioned. Patton has a much stronger case than the so-called paper, which just makes claims without backing them up. IMO no serious paper should begin with the assumption that a claim is false. Science is not a series of assumptions.

Thanks for proving I was right not wasting an hour on him.  The so called man footprints were debunked a long time ago. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/paluxy.html

Science has made a amazing case for evolution over and over and over.  There is a reason only the occasional nutjob like him thinks he can disprove it.

Debunked? I don't see much counter-evidence in those 4 paragraphs of rhetoric.

Naturally, those who believe the fallacious claims of evolution theory can't be persuaded by reason and evidence. It follows that once you abandon sound judgement for wishful thinking, assumption-based reasoning, and willful ignorance (as cooldgamer demonstrated for all), then its impossible to reach the correct conclusions.

Another example of how science disproves evolution:

'Living fossils' such as the coelacanth. If the evolution model is correct, then there should be no 'living fossil' evidence against it. If the coelacanth is used to date rocks, or the rock layers are used to date the coelacanth, and we find a coelacanth alive that's identical to the fossil, that's a death blow to the theory.
266  Other / Off-topic / Re: Scientific proof that God exists? on: November 07, 2014, 03:54:56 PM

The fact of the matter is there is absolutely 0 evidence for young-earth creationism right now.

That's NOT true. There might not be evidence that you accept, but those are two wildly different scenarios.

The video link was a perfect example. You admitted you refuse even to look at it.

Even the pope is supporting evolution.

Appeal to authority. Doesn't matter what the Pope thinks when it comes to science, or even Christianity for that matter. The protestant revolution in the 17th century freed us from his 'authority'. The papacy was declared to have the status of a God centuries before that. If that's not fallacious, then I declare myself a pope too.

If there was solid scientific evidence that disproved evolution scientists would be shouting it from the rooftops (and then try to use the new data to figure out what really happened, because that's how science works).

If 'solid scientific evidence' is all you need, I think human tracks beside dinosaur tracks would be an amazing proof against evolution. That's just one example of actual science in Patton's video.

I am a very skeptical person. If science could form a solid case for evolution, I'd reconsider my position. But while evolution is founded on fallacious arguments (like circular reasoning, dating fossils from rock layers, and rock layers from fossils) I'm 100% unimpressed.

267  Other / Off-topic / Re: Black holes do NOT exist and the Big Bang Theory is wrong ... on: November 07, 2014, 04:56:38 AM
Black holes, white holes, wormholes, relativity, dark matter, big bang theory, string theory......       Unproven bullshit theories, made by schizophrenic minds.

Better explain that to all the satellites that compensate for frame dragging.

Has been proved the existence of the four-dimensional spacetime?
Has been proved that the time is a dimension?
Of course not. Einstein was an idiot.

I'll prove that time is a dimension. Meet me at the 1st avenue Walmart at 1:00pm GMT Friday November 12th, 2014. PROVEN.

If I didn't give you the time you couldn't locate me.

Just another guy trying to convince people that his bad science is real and evolution is a lie

Its science that you don't like, so you dismiss it because you can't deal with the facts. Nice try though. Problem is, I'm not interested so much in Patton's authority because I'm not appealing to authority (which is a clear fallacy). I'm interested in his SCIENCE. He might not have a PHD...fine lets pretend that's true for arguments sake. Talk about the evidence that he presents. Do you have a PHD? If not, do you believe others should just accept what you say? Isn't that a double standard and a logical fallacy?

Evolution theory's most important evidence (the geologic column) is based on circular reasoning.

They date the fossils by the rock layers, and the rock layers by the fossils in them.

The complete geologic column exists nowhere on earth, only in textbooks.

Scientific evidence presented by Dr. Don Patton, Ph.D.?, that humans walked with dinosaurs, and evidence disproving geologic column theory that evolution is based on.

274  Economy / Speculation / Re: Critical Levels - EW analysis on: October 07, 2014, 09:00:13 PM
If there were a mathematical formula to know the future price then we would all be rich.

If we all knew the future price no one would sell. A self-fulfilling un-prophecy, if you will.
275  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin will plummet to $10 by first half of 2014 on: October 06, 2014, 02:51:36 PM
Even knowing all the problems Bitcoin is facing and he is going to face, and even knowing it's very difficult for common folk to own Bitcoin.. he's not just being stubborn. He's losing the little credibility he has. He should just admit his mistake and admit that nothing like Bitcoin has appeared till today which would question Economy's theories.
I think some of these economists and Finance people are kind of like Butthurt because they were not the ones coming up with Bitcoin, solving some economic and finance problems.
So they are acting like "Know it all" people that dismiss Bitcoin as Nerd's money. Kind of like those who dismissed the internet, MP3, P2P, Facebook, you name it.

Hah,

While I think bitcoin is innovative, I won't compare it to facebook or other social networking sites. Facebook is over value and doesn't solve any problems that can't be solved using other methods.

Facebook is an annoying reality to me. Many people want it to go away. But you can't argue with success. It offers something million of people desire. That's how it compares to bitcoin.
276  Economy / Speculation / Re: Merchant adoption, currency talk & the payment system are distractions on: October 01, 2014, 09:25:35 PM
Merchant adoption and getting people to USE the coin is fundamentally the pillar of BTC's success. If no one gives a fuck about actually buying things with it I don't see a bright future. The analogy with email is still correct but you are forgeting using email was free, with Bitcoin you have to put your fiat into it.

Buying bitcoin is not the only way to participate, and is not even a secondary function of any currency. In the case of bitcoin, investments happen to support price stability and increase adoption. However, the role that investing and trading play in bitcoin's success should diminish significantly over time.  Accepting payment in bitcoin is free, and its probably the biggest reason bitcoin is so great and a game-changer. This is precisely the reason there is a steady flow of new companies accepting bitcoin. The barrier to entry is very low. There are reports of some employees now receiving salary in bitcoin.  This could become the norm in a few years as bitcoin becomes what many foresee: a true currency of choice.

The more saturation we see in the bitcoin space, the less price volatility we will see, (in terms of CPI, NOT exchanged against FIAT) especially if people are willing to transact mainly in btc. We should see the day when people commonly exchange btc to government fiat to pay taxes. If bitcoin acquires enough momentum to crush dominant fiat currencies, governments may be forced to officially accept bitcoin. Whatever happens, it is fascinating experiment to watch.

You don't lose until you sell.
...

In that case, you'll be interested in my 100% guaranteed Toilet Fund.  Here's how it works:

1.  Convert the money to be invested into cash.
2.  Deposit it into the toilet.
3.  Flush.
4.  ? ? ?
5.  Profit.

You will not lose a penny, as long as you remember not to sell.

Welcome to my ignore list.
278  Economy / Speculation / Re: Without huge buy on 9.23.2014 where would the price be today? on: September 26, 2014, 03:14:59 PM
We hovered around 400 for a few days then shot up to 450 on 9.23.2014 and now we are back to 400 within a couple days.  If that big injection had not happened on 9.23 would we be around 350 or even lower?

I know this is impossible to say for sure but I want perspective from those who try to quantify/model supply and demands affect on price.

Superstition is unlikely to be unhelpful for price analysis.

If you hadn't stepped over that crack on the sidewalk, would bitcoin have survived?  Tongue
279  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: September 26, 2014, 02:51:22 PM
Peter Schiff: Talking dollar collapse and looming black hole. (spoiler: he thinks Gold is the answer) (second spoiler: not one mention of bitcoin anywhere)

http://rt.com/shows/sophieco/190800-economy-dollar-financial-armageddon/

Nobody wants to jump on our sinking ship Undecided

You can call it that if you want.. I won't. I wouldn't mind if Schiff doesn't mention bitcoin - he was staunchly anti bitcoin all along.
He had made one or two concessions recently towards bitcoin but he is still a Goldbug pure and simple.

The takeaway point here is that QE and the dollar are fucked. At least he sees that!

Bitcoin is very dangerous to trade. Its sensible for Schiff not to recommend it. Smart money figures it out on its own anyway.
280  Economy / Speculation / Re: My mother's a psychic, here's what she says about BTC on: September 26, 2014, 12:13:19 AM
The chance of another cryptocurrency replacing bitcoin is negligible. By saying it's negligible, I mean it won't happen. The chances are pretty much zero at this point. It doesn't matter if someone comes out with something better. This happens all the time with all kinds of products. Inferior products that get to market first and get a huge amount of momentum will run the better, smaller products out of business.

Nope

Bitcoin only has 500,000 to 2 million users.  While the internet back in 1989 had more users.  Dot.com in the late 1990s had around 130 million.  Paypal today has around 150 million users.

Bitcoin is small fish (not even that it's more like plankton) and doesn't have any holding power and doesn't seem to be expanding its' userbase anymore, despite the good concept.

IMHO - the future is the 2.0 crypto currencies with strong communities and good distribution.  The first one to gain any momentum (it's only a matter of time) will shoot past Bitcoin's small userbase.

if you want to compare bitcoin with the internet then we are at 1994/95 right now - the internet had around 5 million users at that time.

the big bang is still to come

I think its more realistic to compare internet DOMAIN growth data:

Internet users statistic is not as meaningful in practical terms. They typically aren't contributing anything, especially in the early days of the WWW. Domains is a better real world metric to see how the business side of things is growing. It takes capital to launch and develop a domain. As does owning bitcoin.

Let's also look at number of bitcoin transactions per day. That is also a more useful statistic than number of users:

https://blockchain.info/charts/n-transactions?timespan=all&showDataPoints=false&daysAverageString=1&show_header=true&scale=0&address=

Looks healthy to me.
