261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: A $30,000 GPU mining farm. on: January 23, 2018, 10:28:19 PM
Hi folks and friends from BCT!

I'm here asking for advice once again, as we're planning to make a $30,000 usd investment in GPU mining:

10 rigs using:

Comp:ModelPriceFinal price
GPU:Msi Armor Radeon 580 8gb$384(x6!)$2,304
MB:Msi Z270-A Pro$152$152
Micro:Celeron G3930$36$36
RAM:Corsair VS DDR4 4GB$73$73
PSU:NZXT Hale90 or alike$136$136
Final price:$2,701

The prices have been converted to USD so it might change a little bit, and yes, in my country the taxes aren't the best ever.
Like I mentioned, we're planning to buy 10 units like this mostly for Ethereum mining, so I would really appreciate your advice before proceeding with the order.

I have been wondering how long it might take before ETH goes PoS, and assuming it does, there should be a few other coins that are worth for GPU mining, right?

What are your thoughts? Is there any better investment that I might not be considering? Or any missing risk?

Kind regards;
Chris C. Russo

One option is to use the Octominer B8PLUS, https://octominer.com/product/octominer_b8plus/
New batch of boards will be in stock in less than 2 weeks. The advantage is that this board comes with 8 full size PCIe slots, no need for risers like the MSI board has. Also the octominer board has built in Intel Mobile 3855u CPU , which makes it very energy efficient.

What about warranty on that b8plus?

What memory is on the gpus? Samsung? Hynix?
Use GPU-Z

So much to choose between :/ Had to use 17.10.2 to enable 13 gpu in windows. Guess it will be safe to update to 18.1.1 then
266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 20, 2018, 11:30:58 AM
can onboard graphics be toggled on and off? I couldn't find the setting in bios.

Yes it can be, options you are looking for is called "iGPU", this board is actually using GPU from CPU if it has one. Board doesn't have gpu on its self.

To disable it:

You must go in BIOS under Advanced - Graphics Configuration - iGPU Multi monitor - Disabled
Also you must select Primary Display and set it to "Auto" or  PCIE

I personally  don't mind to have iGPU enabled.

I guess it is best to use iGPU than a GPU used for mining?

Nice.
Isnt the ram usage high? I thought 4gb would be enough, but u are using all that..
268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 19, 2018, 11:37:55 AM
Would it be possible to Flash a 1060 into a P106 so the board sees it as a headless GPU?

Call me an idiot. But it seems logical some how.

It seems logical. Maybe we need a customized bios for the mb or gpu.
269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 18, 2018, 06:45:43 PM
Ridiculous they won’t support mining but they will making a mining expert moterhbosrd. Absolute garbage response from ASUS

You must understand that income from mining motherboards and mining cards are irrelevant when you compare that profits with gaming motherboards and gaming cards.
Also this was their first mining board, so it's still working in progress in hardware and bios level.

Because of very small market that holds, you cannot expect from them to have dedicated team for this type of product.
We must admit to our self that most miners still use regular motherboards and gaming GPU-s in their rigs.

Then it would make more sense if they made a mb for regular gpu. Not for mining gpu:)
270  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 18, 2018, 01:42:40 PM
Just received an reply from Asus:

Q: "Thanks for the reply. Will there be an bios update so the mb supports 19 non-mining cards? So we can use regular gpus.
P106 and p104 cant be bought in my country."

A: "Unfortunately I cannot give such information. BIOS release notes are not given even to support teams before actual BIOS release.
However, while there could be compatibility fixed, I doubt there will be official support for non-mining cards. as Asus overall stance is that cryptomining isn't supported regular and gaming products."

I really wish people that did not own this motherboard, and are not using it with at least 12 GPU, would stop posting their hypothetical concepts as if they are truth, even if you read what you are regurgitating directly from the Asus B250- Mining Expert PDF, You may not be correct and are spreading misinformation,

A certain configuration within the Asus PDF manual may work, but the truth is that many others work as well, so unless you are actually experimenting with this board, rehashing things you read on line, is not helping this thread...

But actually spreading misinformation that will waste new users time to trouble shoot, and figure out why,

and Yes I am using the Asus B250 with 12 EVGA GTX 1070 TI SC Hybrids, and it has been working splendid, once I figured out my proper Overclock settings within "Simple Miner"

I am currently running two power supplies, Both EVGA, first being a 1600T2, second being a 1000T2,

I really hope this did not come off as too negative, I only would like to see more truly constructive info being offered up to the Alt-Coin mining community,

Thanks.

1-13 gpu's shouldn't be a problem.
But when this card got released people thought u could use 19 gpu.
In my country we cant order "mining gpu" like p104 or p106. So then we are stuck with "only" 13 gpu.

I got a few b250 on the way together with a bunch of gpus. I am hoping that Asus, windows and amd/nvidia will release updates etc so we can use 19 gpu in the future.
13 is better than nothing Smiley
272  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 16, 2018, 06:18:43 AM
I'm having a hard time finding a shop in Europe where this motherboard is available. Have you got some links?

I was also wondering if the motherboard had to be powered by ALL 24 pin connectors or if 3 molex + 1x 24 pin is enough?

You don't need to use the 4-pin molex connectors on the motherboard when using powered risers. They are only there for the few people that may still use ribbon unpowered risers.

https://youtu.be/6e7ywLfRogQ?t=4628

So why dont we all use unpowered risers when we can get power from the pci-e slots?
273  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: To to power risers safely in this case? on: January 15, 2018, 07:02:06 PM
Info for other people.

8-pin is capable of handling 288W.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/power-supply-specifications-atx-reference,review-32338-12.html

Even though the specification allows for a delivery capability of 75 W (six-pin connector) or 150 W (eight-pin connector), the total power-handling capacity of these connectors is at least 192 and 288 W, respectively, using standard terminals, and even more using the HCS or Plus HCS terminals.
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 15, 2018, 06:30:42 PM
Asus replies to me today:

"There should be no need for update, this board should support 19 cards already. To run more than 8 AMD cards, you will need AMD Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.10.2 driver. Please download this from AMD website. For full 19 cards, for system stability we recommend mix of AMD and NVidia cards, refer to manual page 1-9 onward for details."

So. Hard to say if it is the mb or os that is only capable of 13 gpus.
275  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: To to power risers safely in this case? on: January 13, 2018, 08:55:40 PM
Thanks!

I will avoid adapters. Seems all I need is an 6pin extender to reach the riser then. Good to know I can use the evga 1600w for the rig (mb, cards, risers etc.)
276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / To to power risers safely in this case? on: January 13, 2018, 07:38:06 PM
Hi all. Thanks to this forum I have learned a lot of mining.

But I have a case. I have an b250 mining board, 8x 570 gpu and one evga g2 1600w. How to power these risers safely?

I have read that I should avoid power coming from sata because of the fire hazard. So I can´t use sata, cpu or periph. ports from the psu.

That leaves me with the last option, power via pci 8-pin. But since I have 8gpu I only have one 8pin port in spare.

Can I power 1 gpu and 1 riser with the same 8-pin cable from the psu? I insert the 8-pin into the gpu and the 6-pin into the riser.

Comments? Thoughts?

277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Connecting GPU and Riser from the same PCIe cable on: January 13, 2018, 03:47:16 PM
I have tested it and its faultless. Thanks for all the answers!

Hi. Is it still working flawless?

I habe an evga g2 1600w and need to power 8gpu and 8 risers. The psu only have 9x 8pin output. But if I power one gpu+riser on the same cable (8pin to 8pin & 6+2pin) the problem is solved.
The psu came with 5 '8pin to 8pin&6+2pin' and 4 '8pin to 6+2pin'

Need to change it 8 '8pin to 8pin&6+2pin' so all risers and gpu have power.
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 Mining Expert MB - 19 Cards! on: January 13, 2018, 10:21:56 AM
I think it never will be support 19 normal gpus.
Amd have never said that.
You have to combine it with p106 or p104 which normal people cant buy.

Ok, but the question is, i can have 11 normal nvidia gpu and 8 p106 or not???

Dont seem so. Seems u can have 11 amd and 8 p106 with the latest amd drivers.

279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: ASUS B250 MINING EXPERT bios 403 (2017/12/15) released? on: January 13, 2018, 09:16:38 AM
From Asus site:

B250 Mining Expert lets you run up to 19* NVIDIA or AMD GPUs in parallel to max out your megahash rates!

* B250 Mining Expert currently supports a total of up to eight NVIDIA and AMD GPUs. An unlimited number of GPUs will be supported following a driver update that is planned for Q4 2017.

And then the driver update came:
https://www.asus.com/us/support/FAQ/1034921

Based on the new driver updated from AMD, ASUS proudly announces that B250 MINING EXPERT supports 19x GPU for mining. Comparing with competitors, B250 MINING EXPERT is the world’s 1st MB to support up to 19x GPU.

There is no info about a future bios update that allows people having 19 normal gpu. In my country only business is allowed to buy p106 or p104 in minimum quantity of 100pcs and 3 month warranty.
