261  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which Bitcoin Exchange do you use and why ? on: June 15, 2014, 05:02:18 AM
For me, I use either localbitcoins, friend or mine, or wm-center.

Is not wm-center seized ?

Source: http://www.coindesk.com/wm-center-e-currency-exchange-seized-by-us-government/

so wm-center is gone or scam ?

Not sure... I never used them. Rather this is the first time I heard about them and then searched Google to find out the news of their seizure.

I never heard of it as well.
After doing some searches, it seems the domain www.wm-center.com is seized and there is another exchange www.wm-center.es.
Not sure if they are related or not, and not sure if it is legit. Smiley

localbitcoins. You can have coins within minutes here. Bitstamp etc have to wait days for the money to show up

How do u get coin in minutes ? FIAT transfer takes some time ...right ?

If you are doing bank transfer to the trader within the same bank, the whole transaction can be done in minutes.

Exchanges that charge more than 0.3% of fees are mercenaries!

Use Huobi or OKcoin, deposit BTC, withdrawn, and operate without a fee. So they have the largest volume http://exchangewar.info/

They do not charge any fees, only to retreat into yuan, which you will not do, just deposit or withdrawn BTC.

It is true that there is no tx fee in many Chinese exchanges, but I am not really comfortable sending my money/bitcoin to them...
Plus, if something bad happened, I am not sure what will the procedure and outcome be, as the legal system in China is very different from the western world.
264  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: a few questions on: June 15, 2014, 04:43:49 AM
none of the exchanges are to be trusted, to be honest. coinbase is not a real exchange, and is probably the most trustworthy of the lot. Bitfinex, to be honest, is very shady IMO, and now that Bistamp liquidity has been removed from its order books, it is a very illiquid exchange. to just buy (and not trade) Bitstamp is worth looking into.

I haven't follow bitstamp news recently. Have anything bad happened to it?  Huh
265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New to Bitcoin, seeking advice!! c: on: June 15, 2014, 04:36:28 AM
So the best ways to avoid hackers stealing your coins is basically the same way you avoid viruses and malware?

Exactly.

Also if I want to trade with somebody I guess they would ask me to send money to them first because I'm a n00b and nobody really knows me yet. But how do I know if they are a scammer or not??  Tongue

You can use escrows.
There are some highly trusted people here willing to provide escrow service.
Some are doing it for a fee, while some are doing it for free.

A list for escrows: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=108716.0

I'm just getting started with bitcoins after someone at my site introduced me to them. I tried mining but my computer is to weak.So I started investing I've made aprox. .0006 BTC but I've only been doing it for a week or two. So what I'm asking is do y'all have any advice for me.

The easiest way to earn bitcoin is to join a sig program.
You need to first get to member status (60 activity) which could be done in about 2 months. Smiley
267  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: June 15, 2014, 04:27:54 AM
It is confirmed that enrollment for the Luckybit sig program has been closed (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=630569.msg7312750#msg7312750)
So you can move it back to the "CLFNP" section. Smiley
268  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New here. How do I know wallets are safe to download? on: June 15, 2014, 04:20:12 AM
Every other crypto has their own wallet. You can't use a Bitcoin wallet for a Litecoin wallet, or a Dogecoin wallet, or whatever the newest buzz coin is.

There are indeed wallet clients that can help you manage multiple coins in one single program.
One example is Ufasoft Coin. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=58821.0
269  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New here. How do I know wallets are safe to download? on: June 15, 2014, 04:17:05 AM
So is downloading wallets for altcoins generally a bad idea?  Huh

No, why ?

Kindly don't mess between altcoins and bitcoin.

altcoins, are the alternative coins, which is any other coin alternative to btc, like litecoin and dogecoin for example.

Indeed, downloading new altcoins' wallet clients is not a good idea as it may contains malware in it.

All legit wallets are open source.

Or something like blockchain.info. But even with that I'd be careful.

blockchain.info does not actually have access to your funds, although some web wallets, such as coinbase, do.  I'd stay away from those if you want to be safe.  Blockchain.info is a great place to keep bitcoin for day-to-day spending.

True. If you don't have the private key, you don't have the bitcoin. Smiley
Blockchain.info is good, but it is better to enable 2FA.

Is it legal to share personal information without the owners approval? I think this is illegal in most country. This can lead to threat and blackmailing.

Ponzi is illegal in most countries, but still you can find tons of ponzi here...
272  Economy / Speculation / Re: Crossed 500 USD - Bull Market returns ? on: June 15, 2014, 04:05:29 AM
The US government's auction of bitcoins could attract some big players.
They might see an opportunity of obtaining bitcoins without moving the market.
In which case, prices would rise again.

I agree with the former point, not so much with the latter. I think the news put a damper on the market (no one knows if they will sell for a premium or a discount -- and if for a discount, they could literally suppress the price on exchanges).

How could the bitcoin be selling for at premium, while the buyers can buy bitcoin on exchanges little by little, day by day?
273  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need help getting my son started {unemployed} on: June 15, 2014, 04:01:41 AM
With all the suggestions so far, what did he tried? Any success?

OP (or maybe his son) did try to join the Luckybit sig program, but it seems it is a little bit too late.

274  Economy / Services / Re: ▶▶ Luckyb.it = SELL YOUR SIGNATURE = up to 0.1 BTC A MONTH = ENROLLMENT CLOSED on: June 15, 2014, 04:01:19 AM
Hoping for this to reopen, seems like becoming an active member after a pause in activity, I can't find too many non-scam sig campaigns.

I don't think you can join it even if it re-opens, due to your negative trust...
275  Economy / Services / Re: "USER" zolace Bounty! on: June 15, 2014, 03:55:16 AM
why dont you just hire someone from service section i thought i see a advertising there that offers dox service besides you need atleast his name or any social media account to know something about him

I believe the service you mentioned is indeed provided by the user right above you. Cheesy

277  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos, please help! on: June 15, 2014, 01:24:50 AM
You could also PM Staff and Global Mod., I'm sure they would give you a hand for this.

No, we can't help.

Sorry. I thought you can.

Thanks for pointing out.

OP, then try contacting Theymos.

Been there, done that. No reply. It's really a non-issue at this point though. But thank you for
offering suggestions Smiley

It seems to me that theymos is really busy all the time.
Maybe he should give more power to global mods, or maybe promote one or two of them to admin to share the workload...
278  Other / Meta / Re: How to gain that green trust score ? on: June 15, 2014, 01:05:35 AM
You can find how the trust system works in details here. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=211858.0
Quote
These scores are taken from your trust network. They are not global scores. You can edit your trust network here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust
If your trust depth is set to 2 (the default), you will trust feedback by people you trust, people they trust, and people they trust.

For example, I trust DefaultTrust, DefaultTrust trust theymos, theymos trust gmaxwell, gmaxwell gave jgarzik a positive feedback.
So with a default trust depth at 2, jgarzik has a green trust on my trust network. Smiley

I thought this is over since the world cup is done.

Man, the 2014 world cup has just begun, and is far from over lol.  Cheesy
