Unclaimed coins fund forming commitees.

candidates for the commitees, please apply!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsrKGhOkVcFpdFRFeHNUdWx3Qy1nTjBPLUFNWUJKQkE&usp=sharing

thx

what are the planned scopes and responsibilities for the 3 groups?  seems to me that tech/infrastructure will overlap quite a bit

I think you're right.  Hopefully the techdev fund will support programming and infrastructure fund will support deploying permanent hardware nodes like the Odroid U3  - which I have been converted to from the Raspberry Pi as the low-cost solution for NXT.

Sorry to say, if you cut away the smoke and mirrors NXT is not a way to make money by mining or forging.  NXT makes mining obsolete by making the required infrastructure so cheap that it's going to happen as a low -cost NXT community effort just because we want it to happen.

Here's some words I'm writing for distribution in Texas:

NXT Is Green

Ecological?  Financial?  BOTH !!!

Bitcoin depends on a small network of mining nodes fighting for their share of a fixed profit pool of 3600 bitcoins per day.  The only thing keeping Bitcoin from freezing up is $3.6M or so (at $1K/BTC or under) inflation per day, funding miner generation of the current 25 million GHash/s needed daily.  A representative miner “pickaxe” is a Butterfly Labs Monarch costing $2000 and using 350W of power to produce 600 GHash/sec. Thus the current Bitcoin mining network has sunk unit infrastructure costs of at least $83 million and (at $0.10/KwH) ongoing electricity costs of at least $35,000 per day.

Both costs are rising faster and faster. Exponential growth of Bitcoin’s hashrate (see blockchain.info/charts/hashrate) means mining rigs and energy use will skyrocket out of control, sooner rather than later.  Bitcoin, and clones like Doge, are thus by their very nature destined to fail.

NXT is the sustainable solution to this problem.  By using cooperative transparent forging, not competitive gigahash mining, NXT does not have an exponential forcing function at its core that drives its costs and energy consumption ever higher.  A NXT blockchain support network of 1000 ($60 ea., 10W) Odroid U3 nodes has a one-time unit infrastructure cost of only $60 thousand and uses only $48 per day in electricity – forever.

Excellent – thanks. I read the forum posts everyday trying to improve my (still) very limited understanding and this is one of those stand out posts that produce that 'Ah ha' moment.

Thank you for your kind words.  I've edited mine to the version above and I am going to try to get 2000 people to read them on March 6 at the Texas Bitcoin Conference.  Hopefully that will generate 2000 ah-ha moments - and 2000 new NXT users.

Who has the account with the unclaimed coins and how does community decides how to spend them?

Come from Beyond split the unclaimed coins between Pouncer, klee and neer.g; committees with spending authority over them have yet to be finalized. James / jl777 has sole spending authority on the three other accounts I am responsible for, since these were all started by private donors to support James' efforts.

Here's the link to the consolidated treasurer's spreadsheet for the six ongoing funds.  Total amount in these is around 9.5 million NXT.  We're still getting it on a standardized format.  The four treasurers have implemented a system between us to obtain passwords to each other's accounts if any of us become incapacitated.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoE8nAOEMIa7dFFnWjRNYTM4RkhsN3dRRXFBaTBiaHc#gid=14

I personally am hoping to get on the infrastructure committee.  Official thread for selecting the committees is here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=445209.0

Salsacz also has sole spending authority on an earlier marketing account.  The spreadsheet for that is:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgAGADgnQcrtdHRrV3V3Z1lzOXVEMWtqdElUaEtqV1E#gid=15

Are the tresures being paid by the community? Or was it from neer.g´s own pocket?

"Salary for James / jl777 ($2000 Feb 12 - Mar 12) per neer.g"

James does not have the spending authority to give NXT from NXTcommunityfund to himself, only to others.  Neer.g was the original biggest donor to NXTcommunityfund and any payments from there directly to James are effectively private agreements between the two of them from neer's original contribution.  Anything I disburse directly to James I clear with neer first.  I personally don't have any authority to send NXT out of the NXTcommunityfund unless directed to do so by either James or neer.  I'm just the big beefy guy with his arms crossed at the bank door making sure nobody secretly dips into the till.

I don't receive any NXT for being a treasurer, I am doing it gratis as my part to support the NXT community.  I am pretty sure the other treasurers aren't receiving any NXT for their efforts, either.

Hey guys, how much NXT do I actually need to forge some blocks?

I currently have 10, yes ten, no not 10K, and it says that I can generate a block in 22429 days... Is this for real?  Huh

Thanks!

Even with 100k nxt you will not make any money forging so get that mentality out of your head from the start and welcome to the beginning of the rest of your life.

I've been trying to learn more about forging (transparent forging) and you raise the exact issue I am looking to resolve as a recent investor. You make it sound like 100,000 NXT is not enough to forge.

I am a miner at heart and like the idea of forging but the more I read about NXT, it seems that only the original stakeholders (or those with a huge number of NXT) are the ones who can successfully forge (gain/accumulate NXT)? How many NXT are needed to forge and what returns could one expect from say 500,000 NXT? Does the chance to forge change over time, i.e. what variables other than my account holdings and online status as a node affect forging success?

This issue has been difficult to get my head around as a recent adopter. I have not forged any NXT since opening my account (20,000 NXT) a few weeks ago and it sounds like from your response that this number is a laughing matter...I will never forge with that amount. Could some one provide some insight or a link to where forging and returns are discussed?

A system has already been created to reward running a public node.  https://www.peerexplorer.com/ (seems to be down right now for maintenance).

Sponsors create caches in the form of small amounts of NXT which are rewarded to registered public nodes.

Hmmm....must have been asleep at my desk when this happened. or it could have got lost in the information tsunami that is this thread.....

...or another thread:
https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,2266.120.html

Obviously I need to get out more......pity the cache system seems to have got gamed/broken.

LOL, probably lost in the tsunami Wink

Looking at the nextcoin.org post, seems he's shutting it down after some recent changes let someone walk away with 4100 NXT...  A real pity.  The peerexplorer.com cache system encouraged me to set up a few extra public VPS nodes.  Hope he reconsiders...

Thinking generally here: we've put a lot of effort into clients, AM, AE, marketing, etc over the last few weeks, but network infrastructure has been put a little to one side, since the massive efforts we made in December/January to get the current infrastructure up and running smoothly.

Looking at the peer explorer :
https://www.peerexplorer.com/
I'm only seeing 399 active nodes right now. One of them is mine, so I am currently responsible for 0.25% of NXTs network.
Hmmmm......I would feel happier if we had more nodes. 1000 seems like a nice number.

So, what do u guys think? Do we need more nodes ?
How can we encourage more people to run nodes, given that forging revenues are not exactly brilliant right now?

So, I'm really interested in this as I hope to get on the infrastructure committee.  Is Blockexplorer your site?  does it show ALL active nodes at a given time, or just SOME active nodes, or just systems that people have registered that may or may not be on at all right now?  These are basic questions, sorry, but gotta start somewhere learning to get ready to ask the harder questions...

CfB,

Is there a definition of the bytes in a transaction? I am trying to figure out which ones are AM and which ones are not.
I thought maybe doing a getTransaction call would return what type of transaction it is, but it doesnt seem to.

Where can we get a reference on decoding the bytes of a getTransactionBytes API call?  And is there anyway to get the bytes for an entire block?  Id really like to learn more about the bits/bytes of NXT, can someone point me in the right direction as far as decoding the blockchain?
Today is my first day stumbling around with the API, so not sure of any block format

+1 on this, I am very interested in starting to learn about the block structure too.

Hi people,

My developer is ready to start on the creation of payment modules for Nxt for all major open source platforms, starting with WP, because that will help quick adoption.

I would like to know if a bounty is outstanding for this or if anyone is willing to offer a bounty for this. At this moment ETA would be end of the month for the first version to be used with WP.

neer.g funded a 25k bounty for this, I believe there were more directed donations. Not sure of exact total, but probably around 45K NXT.

I think 25K original bounty for deployed and test wordpress plugin, eg. realworld websites actually using it and community approval that source code is cool, functionality works, etc. Then the balance for several more plugins, tbd which ones, hopefully marketing peoples will figure out what website plugins make the most sense to do, constrained by the ones that are easiest, etc.

James

I will match neer.g's offer of 25k nxt according to his rules to the T.

This is great!
I've talked to neer.g and apparently this bounty is included in the communityfund.

I have asked for a bounty of 50,000 Nxt from this fund and James has agreed if we can deliver a package of modules for the main platforms.

Can I count on you to match the 25K, Ola? Then I can give my guy that message and he will be able to allocate more time Smiley

Also, I want to tell people NOT to be afraid to ask for funds. They may get rejected, but that's what the fund is for. neer.g asked me to relay this to the community.
If you have a worthwhile project, please step up and ask (here or in PM) jl777 to consider your project. James is someone who is dedicated to push Nxt forward, but needs to know where help may be needed!

I also would like to express my gratitude to both jl777 and rickyjames once more for their sterling work, and to the donators of the funding accounts for putting these funds to work.

You have my word, and you can use this post as a proof of promise, everyone can see this.

This is so dense I'm trying to parse my role in it.  So far I think I should be on standby to pay out either 25K or 50K NXT from NXTcommunityfund once a WP payment plugin for NXT is delivered.  Is that right?  Or am I supposed to disburse something up front now besides 5K NXT to allwelder?

So far Mises_77 has the best idea for service or product on top of NXT. A nodecoin that rewards people for forging in a new altcoin. This way, even if you dont forge a node, at least you get a nodecoin. Eventually a market in this coin will develop and people will trade them for fun. I think it should be on a per machine basis, so it wont matter how big your acct is, you still can get some nodecoin every minute. Probably need to fractionalize the reward, or limit to the ones that were closest to forging. Anyway, excellent idea regardless of how the details shake out.

I will be using nodecoin as an example of a NXTcoin that are built on top of NXT. Rickyjames is authorized to make 500NXT payment to Mises_77

James

Bounty sent.  James, it would help me a lot if when you do these bounties, you would shoot a quick PM to me containing just a link to the post where you make the award.

Drexme, listen very carefully.  You need to post your sending account number RIGHT NOW on the other thread.   I have no evidence whatsoever that you just made this 14,209 NXT deposit to NXTcommunityfund.   You need to post the sending account number and the amount you are going to send BEFORE it gets sent.  Do not screw around with me on this.  I will declare it a contribution by an anonymous donor next time if you send it again without advance details.

Don't fuck with me. I just sent it. http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=2000&tra=6883427540478165384
I'm using an account at bter. I will be using the same account number

If you use this same account number on future payments, then we are cool.  I have made a record of your initial partial repayment on the official NXTcommunityfund spreadsheet.

Guys, I think the most agree on the following:

  • drexme pays back with interest
  • drexme leaves the nxt community

I don't like his words, his intentions, his motivations, his behavior. One might think he has to be 8 years old because he just don't get it. But just let's agree on the above and then we move on!

Drexme, don't reply here.

Exactly.
This is all about him paying back and then dissapearing.
The fact that so many want to forgive him and invite him back in is just maddening. I can't believe it.
You are basically inviting more people to steal because "hey if I get caught there are no repurcusions anyway"

For what it's worth, Drexme has started two new threads over at nextcoin.org to get around previous threads being locked.  His current plan appears to be paying back into the NXTcommunityfund administered by yours truly.   He says he's sent the first 14K NXT but I don't see it yet.  If you want him to pay interest, etc, better get that straight up front and right now because he may be about to dump in the dark and pull the eject lever.

https://nextcoin.org/index.php/topic,4054.0.html

I just posted proof. Need to be more patient. I see NXT still has a slow blockchain

I need to be unbanned in  Nextcoin.org so I can make a post on the forum so the community can decide how I can pay back the NXT

Either through services
Dogecoins
Or webspace
etc.

its awesome that you are making amends. good for you sir.

Well I had no choice. A witch hunt started and I was afraid for my families safety. I don't live alone and there's some crazy people in the internet.

Hey, Drexme - you've been unbanned by Graviton over on nextcoin.org, so you can head over there now and state your case for making things right with the NXT community.  I have also sent a note to the bitcointalk moderator about deleting PyroClasTix's last copy of your personal info (his quote of my original posting).  There is honor in acknowledging your mistakes like a man, keep your chin up, you can work thru this mess you've made with a good attitude and good actions.  It's never too late to start doing the right thing.

Didn't think you'd be this quick!

Hopefully this all will be solved in a manner we feel is good.
Good to get the personal details removed. You have them anyway.

I'm feelin' good about all this, quite the drama going on now over Drexme at Nextcoin.org -

Looks like once real world contact info is posted even for a few minutes, the cat's out of the bag and everybody goes to endgame mode.  Somehow I don't have too much of a problem with that.

Wow. I'm stunned.

About a month ago I was doing 'research' and landed doges.org, and that's when I noticed Drexme was listed as admin. Was going to mention it here, but then I thought better of it -- maybe he had turned a new leaf, learned a lesson, etc.

Quote
Sure I took 30k worth of NXT from a fundraiser. But it wasn't worth what it is now.

Your bringing back things that happened 2 months ago.

At that time (21-12) the 33900 Nxt would have fetched him 1-1,5 BTC on DGEX.

That's about 600-900 USD theft at prices those days. :/

What, you think I'm psychic and can just find this guy at the drop of a hat?

OK....

[EDITED TO REPOVE PERSONAL INFO]

I called the phone number, it's him.  He says that he sold the NXT he took for 0.5 BTC, invested it in Visacoin, and lost it all.    Back in his NXT days he claims he paid for around 30 translations of documents at around 1K NXT each out of his own pocket so in his mind what he took is equal to what he gave so he believes he left NXT even.  He can't understand why anybody would still be interested in all of this after two months have gone by.  He says he currently holds 100K of Doge, which would be worth maybe $250.

I am not up to speed on just what Drexme is supposed to have done, but here he is and here's what he says his side of the story is.

I posted his real identity data over in the "doges.org Drexme is absolute Scum!" thread.  That should be interesting.

No need to post my personal info up

Tell you what, Drexme.  I've gone back and edited my posts to remove your personal info.  You can edit yours to do the same.  Then you're anonymous again.  Stick around and exchange a few posts with the gang here and see if you can come to an agreement that you're all square.  If so, then go in peace.

EDIT: Oops - too late.  It's already been quoted on the other thread.  Sorry about that.
