261  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Are we doing enough to save the planet? on: July 30, 2018, 06:30:29 AM
While infrastructure and technology keeps advancing, our natural resources suffer. Sure there are people who tries to save our planet by diving into the water and collecting trash, or encouraging anyone to recycle or stop using plastic. But is it enough? If it is, then why are we still experiencing climate change? Could this be the start of the destruction of our planet?
Some of them are not even thinking that there is "climate change" and meanwhile some of them are thinking "earth is flat". yeah, the world is on a path to destruction through human activity causing "Rapid Resource Depletion" and "Heavy Environmental Pollution" which has exceeded Earth's threshold capacity.
262  Other / Meta / Re: Reporting post more than once is possible. on: July 30, 2018, 04:54:25 AM
I found a bug in the report system.

I am able to report the same post more than once.
This can lead to exploit, and users may report the same post many times trying to get the possible badge.

This bug is like spamming a moderator.

My suggestion is that once you report a post, the button "Report to moderator" just disappear or becomes unclickable for the user who reported.
Agreed with one comment. "Report to moderator" just disappear or becomes unclickable for not only the user who reported but for the all users. In that way, we can avoid getting reported the same content again and again by different users. That means more works for Mods and more server overloads.

I hope this possible badge(reporting badge) didn't have anything related to bounty, signature campaigns. Otherwise, users(actually spammers) will surely exploit the reporting system just for getting a badge for their underworld bounties. They first spam the forum through their bots and they will report their own work. They get a badge easy-peasy Cheesy
263  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Now I'm awarding aMerits for old posts on: July 30, 2018, 04:35:20 AM
I've already got CMerits and dMerits, and now I have invented aMerits. These are archive merits, and are only available for Juniors.
Another nice initiative by "JC" but don't you think the name of sMerits is enough rather getting too complex by introducing CMerits, dMerits and aMerits. Hey JC some members didnt even bother to read the rules of this thread. They just see the title (Oh no Its Merit giveaway by JC) and posting  Cheesy(RAMSHIVDEEPAK is already a Member)

I've occasionally tried branching out into other boards that I don't generally read to see if there is anything useful being posted there.
I think that's when you should give a try for dMerits Wink( like "Jet Cash" did it for the Spanish board through "seoincorporation").

Quote
The end result, is I still have 100 sMerits... and I can't seem to find a good home for them. Maybe I'm too "picky"... but I genuinely don't want to give merit out just for the sake of giving merit. I want to reward users who are contributing in a meaningful way and whom I consider to be an asset to this forum.

#bitcointalkProblems Tongue
I had to agree with you, some members tend to give sMerits just for sake of giving Merits. Also, some members(I'm not saying you are) just HODLING their sMerits without awarding to the posters actually worth to getting few Merits. Sometimes their work cannot be categorized as exceptional, but at least they are not the Twit book spammers or underworld bounty hunters. I think Merit system didn't introduce for finding only the rare gems like DdmrDdmr, theyoungmillionaire etc..but to throw away the spammers, discourage spammers. Finding those rare gems is an added benefit for the betterment of the forum (Actually true well-wisher of the forum always do what they normally do with or without Merits and Merits just give them additional shine where other members can identify the real gems)

<...snip...>
Thanks for your pleasant complement and information. I will update my thread with those details.

Regarding ICO, nowadays almost all are becoming scam. Any one with Coding experience or not can create a token out of thin air. Get a ANN design and ICO website within few dollars and launch a ICO. Then copy a good white paper from internet. Those fake teams are collecting millions of dollars and get vanished like ghosts. Sometimes even they have given excuses like we can't achieved our funding goal, hence we decided to stop the ICO further notice. This is the harsh reality in these days. Cheesy
265  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: SMART CONTRACTS, simply explained... on: July 29, 2018, 06:37:35 PM
Smart contracts are really a very important tool. But there may be a mistake in testing the smart contract as happened with the infamous the DAO. The best insurance against errors will be attentiveness, expert advice and thorough market analysis.
Yeah sometimes high profile Smart Contracts can be contains vulnerabilities caused by programming mistakes, like   "unchecked - send bug" in DAO. So better to do a security audit and get expert advise before launching a smart contract.

<...snip...>
Tampering with smart contract become all most impossible.
<...snip...>
That's why I never said impossible but all most impossible. Wink
266  Other / Serious discussion / Re: It is immoral to be part of unfair system? on: July 29, 2018, 05:49:41 PM
Terrorism - the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims

This is what actually we called Terrorism and the persons who involved these kind of activities by knowing or unknowingly so called "Terrorist". Criminals are also "civilians" so we don't want to act as like as "criminals" just by hunting and killng them with cold-blooded. Hunt the criminals and get the justise for people within the available legal framework. Make new rules and regulations If available legal policies having some loopholes to escape the criminals. Because nowadays some people (actually some officers who works for the ruling government) just act as " official criminals" which cannot be accepted.

I think It's not about the money that you're getting paid. It's about the principles what you believed.

268  Other / Beginners & Help / SMART CONTRACTS, simply explained... on: July 29, 2018, 03:19:07 PM
I have found a video which simply explained the Smart Contracts. So I would like to shared transcribed that content with for other members( specially newbies who loves to learn about crypto field and it's usages).

What is a Smart Contract?

Smart Contracts are just like contracts in the real world. The only difference is they are completely digital. In fact smart contracts is a tiny computer programme that stored inside a block chain.

Let's see one example in order to understand how smart contracts are works. Think about large fund rising third party platform, like kickstarter. Product team can go to the "Kickstarter" then create a project, set a funding goal and start collecting money from others who believing the idea. Both the product team and supporters need to trust the "Kickstarter"  to handle their money directly.

"Trusting a third-party is required if we are not having Smart Contracts"

If the project gets successfully funded, the project team expect "Kickstarter" will give them the money. On the other hand supporters want their money go to the project if it was funded or to get refund when it hasn't reached it's goal.

With smart contracts we can build the similar system that doesn't require third party platform like "Kickstarter". We can programme a smart contract to added holds all the received funds until the certain goal is reaxhed. The supporters of project can now transfer their money to the smart contract. If the project gets fully funded, smart contract automatically passes the money to the creator of the project. If the project fails to achieve those goals, money automatically goes back to the supporters. Because smart contract stored inside a block chain, everything is distributed. With this technique no one isn't control of the money.

But Why We Trust Smart Contracts?

Well because smart contracts stored on a block chain. They inherit some interesting properties.

"They are immutable and They are distributed"

Being "immutable" means once smart contract is created. It can be never changed again. So no one can go behind your back and tamper with a code of your contract.

Being "distributed" means that the output of your contract is validated by everyone on the network. So a single person cannot forced to released the funds because other people will spot this attempt and Mark this as invalid. Tampering with smart contract become all most impossible.

Where and How Can We Use Smart Contracts?

Smart Contracts can be applied in many different things bot just than crowd funding.

  • Banks - issue loans or to offer automatic payments
  • Insurance Company - process certain claims
  • Postal Company - payments on delivery

This is only few areas where we can use smart contracts. Right now hand full of block chains who supports smart contracts. But the biggest one is "Ethereum". It was specifically created and designed to support smart contracts. Smart Contracts can be programmed in a programming language called "Solidity". It's also would noting that "Bitcoin" also supports smart contracts although it was lot more limited compared to Ethereum.
269  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice for a crypto noob? on: July 25, 2018, 07:25:36 PM
After a bit of hassle before been able to join this platform, glad to be finally here  Smiley. Basically, I am here to socialize, learn stuff about cryptos and probably conduct businesses (hopefully).
I think you're in the wrong place, this is not a business platform to do your businesses.

270  Other / Meta / Re: Is it time for members to take responsibility for their own threads on: July 25, 2018, 12:26:13 PM
I will write some rules for posting in these threads, and I'll add them here later for your comments. Threads in this initiative will have the prefix [SMART] in the title.
I also have some doubts as "qwk" ,whether it's a viable concept or not. I personally liked what you have suggested like always such as dMerits too. But it is better to publish your standards(no more billboard images, that will be surely a one of your standard) before we are going forward this conversation with other members. The biggest concern which I have  regarding your SMART thread concept is what will happened if so many redundend threads are going to post under this SMART concept by junior members(not everyone). Because your concept involves Merit. That means some of the members can seeing this is a shortcut or easy method for grabbing some Merits(but I know it's not ). That can be a new cause for clogging the forum too.

However there can be other side too. Members can be more creative and take some effort to their posters before posting. So at the end of the day it's a good idea, but still have my doubts when it comes to the action.
271  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos worried about traffic? What is reason for underestimate some proposal? on: July 25, 2018, 09:18:06 AM
Hey OP take a look at this thread at "Serious discussion board",[@Theymos] List of viable ideas to clean up the forum. which created by "Shitcointalk". I am a supporter of your suggestions and also that member too. Lets together make some noise hoping "Theymos" will hear what most of the forum members( not the spammers or bots) suggesting for the betterment of bitcointalk.

Those are my suggestions apart from other senior members,

  • ANN threads should not be awarded Merits
  • The posts in the ANN threads should not count as activity

I think these two suggestions from "Welsh" and "LTU_btc" are also worth to consider when it comes to the clogging of "Meta board" by shitposters.

This is why I suggested that the message displayed when you are banned be changed to contact theymos/cyrus to appeal the ban. This way it doesn't clog up the Meta section. It's hardly a public matter anyway so it makes sense to have it privately discussed via personal messages.

Anyway, 99.9% of banned users have no chance to be unbanned,
Absolutely right. That's what I'm highlighting. Why we are allowing to post those annoying posts asking the same question again and again by those 99.9% everyday whose already knows the answer that they get.
Almost all of these users don't have chance to be unbanned, but despite that, they have right to appeal. Many of banned users don't even know reason why they got ban and by making these threads they get explanation from mods. But maybe it would better to show reason of ban when users are trying to login in to banned account. Then we would see less ban appeal threads I think.

Seems like "mdayonliner" and me having the same thought when it comes to the spammers on the forum Wink. Actually, I agreed with both hands that your statement of "the traffic comes from 100 spammers means nothing", well-said man Smiley

. I my opinion, it's better to have 1 good member who cares about the forum than having 100 spammers on a forum. For a legit new member, the traffic coming from 100 spammers means nothing than the value s/he will get from the genuine 1 member.

I truly support your idea about "Infinity snap", but I think it would be better if mods can looking into the members profile and their post history before take any actions. I have looking in to that Reddit subsection and some of the members missed the snapping date(9th july 2018) due to unavoidable personal reasons ( but they all are not the shitposters) and they got banned. So if we going for this kind of system of banning (I believed we should) better to implement a system only filtered the real shitposters but not members who really cares about the forum. Some times they can be inactive some period of time due to personal reasons which didn't mean that they are spammers or shitposters.

One good member actually worth more than hundred of shitposters or spammers.

274  Other / Meta / Re: Instructions on how to use BBCode on: July 24, 2018, 05:36:44 PM
Actually I have already created a thread regarding [Tips] Bulletin Board Codes(BB Codes)(more than what help menu offers), but I didn't get any pleasant comments ( I think I'm a newbie in that time) rather getting a blame from a member for creating a thread(but I didn't get demotivated and move on). So if you have time can you look at my thread and you can add more functions from it.

The thing I want to highlight is some of the senior members(most of them are very helpful including you too) demotivate the Juniors(unless they are spamming) when they trying to help other newcomers to the forum. I can see the clear difference in the way expressing other members thoughts in this thread. Actually you have done a great job "xtraelv"
275  Other / Meta / Re: Language on the forum on: July 24, 2018, 10:52:29 AM
Although i might be new on this platform, i think it is becoming rampant and as a concerned member will like draw our attention to it and try to desist from it. You go through some post and the words some members are using are too "hash" with all sort of labeling, or because he/she disagree with one's opinion. Aside the interest or  profit we all  make on this platform through investment, A lot is also been learned on the forum:

Don't think bitcointalk as an investment platform. It is simply a knowledge hub where you can learn absolutely anything(but more often about cryptocurrency field) without spending a penny. Someone can join bounty campaigns, signature campaigns or whatever and make few extra money, but don't forget that is not the sole purpose of creating this kind of forum as far as my knowledge. I think you are talking about the thing when some senior members(actually it doesn't want to be a senior member, but the well-wisher of the forum) blames when someone posting the same thing again and again (instead of using the "search") which was already answered several times or when someone find out that member only joins to the forum for bounty reports(root cause of the spammers) which actually clogs the forum. Those are the two cases where I can see most of the senior members getting too harsh on some junior members. I think that's because they have seen how the forum developed with time, they have seen how spammers escape through the loopholes in the forum rules better than junior members (including me).

So for the next time when you see some members are using harsh words, don't take serious or personal and try to find out the root cause of why that member being harsh. Sometimes a few exceptions are there as always in every scenario. If someone being harsh (actually I couldn't say where we should draw the line between "being harsh" and "not being harsh") continuously without any valid reason, just ignore that member or report that member. But most occasions I have found that the tone some of the members are used is a lesson for any member who not doing the right thing and they will remember that "harsh words or label" when they are going to repeat the same mistake again.

I don't know this is a "haiku bot" or not, but seriously this guy(or bot) is starting to spam the "Bitcoin Discussion" board. That member posted and he/she/bot also give the answer too. This member(or bot) make my day Cheesy

Biycoin is the best thing that happened in our lifetime

Makes alot of sense folks!

P.S- I think "Biycoin" is a good name for ICO scammers
277  Other / Meta / Re: Is there any bug in "Insert List" code? on: July 24, 2018, 06:21:50 AM

Edit 2.
Oh, looks like I know what's the problem. Have you noticed that your thread (this thread) has two "list code" in the top. It's because when you post an end tag of insert list, its start tag will automatically appear.

Edit your thread again, you will now see 4 start tag of insert list in the beginning, it's because you include 4 end tag of insert list. It only means whenever you post an end tag it's partner which is the start tag will automatically appear.

Quote this post of mine and you will see that there are additional 1 start tag in the beginning of my post it's because I have an end tag of Insert list in here in my post, it's the Bold one with color green above.

Oh Oh now I know what the problem is for this thread Cheesy. Thanks, "Silent26" for your information. But what is the problem with my previous thread which you quoted?

Edit - Sorry my mistake, same problem there too. So I got the answers what I searched and I will lock the thread.

It was observed that some kind of bug in "

The thread doesn't really make sense. You say that Einstein's theory (which one) was challenged by a Sri Lankan. His theories have been challenged before, so don't see the point of that. And then instead of posting any information about the challenge, you post a video about shipping.
The subject i used is just a clickbait mate and it's not a video about shipping but how the largest animal ever to lived on earth, Blue Whales were killed by stupid people. I just want to share this video at least it will get some attention towards these giants. (For the record, I didn't share anything blindly)
