261  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Ann]Vote New coins on Bter.com - Which new coin should Bter add in next week? on: April 10, 2014, 09:55:32 AM
Please list community coin (COMM) in the poll. It is a new proof of stake coin that is currently being fairly distributed among 500 bitcointalk members. The distribution is almost complete and a big community has already grown around the coin who would like to actively vote for it to be listed on bter.

Thanks for all your hard work dev. CommunityCoin is on a thread listing coins that have responded to the Heartbleed bug. It shows these coins have active and attentive developers. There are 200+ coins on coinmarketcap and only 17 currently in the list that have updated! It's really nice to see CommunityCoin in there.

Please post any coins that I am missing to this thread so that I can update this list.

These are the development teams and their coins that have responded to the Heartbleed bug identified and publicized yesterday, April 8, 2014. I am using this as an example to evidence the coins with active and attentive developers.

Coin / Date of Fix
1. DOGE / 4.9.14
2. Bitcoin / 4.9.14
3. Quark / 4.9.14
4. Cryptogenic Bullion / 4.9.14
5. Vertcoin / 4.9.14
6. Hobonickels / 4.9.14
7. Zetacoin / 4.9.14
8. HongKongCoin / 4.9.14
9. CommunityCoin / 4.9.14
10. Cryptographic Anomoly / 4.8.14
11. YAC / 4.9.14
12. Mint / 4.9.14
13. Reddcoin / 4.9.14
14. ECC / 4.9.14

263  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Reviving faded coins on: April 10, 2014, 12:15:50 AM
There is a member here that has been doing that. My take was he bought tons at 1sat, "revived" the coin that the dev skipped on, and profited. I will try to find it again.

edit - I must have dreamed this. I can't find now. I remember the member had all of the coins they revived in their signature.

Not a dream - check sig - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=158610

He/she is dev for sherlockcoin and has been involved with revive of 5 other coins.

This dev is trying to revive both astrocoin and beecoin. They are both dirt cheap right now and I was wondering whether to invest in them in the hope the dev's work will raise their value.

However, androids tokens was revived by a new dev team and it has gone down in value since then. The devs did a great job but maybe the falling price of bitcoin drove androids tokens price down.

All the alts seem to be falling in value and I'm just not sure if astrocoin and beecoin stand a chance of rising in value.
264  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RFC] æthereum: a turing-complete coin distributed as per bitcoin's blockchain on: April 09, 2014, 11:48:57 PM

13.  But I don’t trust you with my bitcoin private keys.

There is no need to trust us.  Simply sign an æther address under your control with a bitcoin private key using whatever wallet you are comfortable with (e.g., blockchain.info, Armory, etc.,) and paste the resulting signature into the æthereum client.

I'm a newbie so I'm not a technical expert at using bitcoin wallets. Could you provide a dummies guide on how to sign an æther address under your control with a bitcoin private key?

I know this is very basic stuff to an expert but if you want mass adoption you need to explain a technical step like this in a way that even technophobes can understand.
265  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What three altcoins do you have the majority of your money in? on: April 09, 2014, 03:44:02 PM
A month ago I would have said I had a lot invested in mint. However, since the price of bitcoin and mint have both dropped my investment is not worth much money. I think it's currently about $30 and about a month ago it must have been $150+

I'm in it for the long run, but it's a bit depressing thinking I had a fair bit of money invested in something that's worth about 5 times less than it was. I suppose almost everyone is in the same boat at the moment.
266  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Who remembers litecoin @ $1 ?? on: April 09, 2014, 03:37:11 PM
Alot of us must of felt like pioneers back then. Just when the world was learning about Bitcoin, we were balls deep into LTC and other legacy coins like TRC, PPC, NMC, DVC and NVC. Heck even some of us "veterens" don't even remember Tenebrix, Fairbrix or Solidcoin.

I remember getting 25 LTC from a user on BTC-E when it was about 60 cents, as a gift. He had mined a ton of them at mere pennies and told me these exact words.

"keep the blockchain going"

Its one of the few things that makes me not quit the scene. Money comes and goes, but being a part of history is priceless.

Its getting harder now with all these scams going around. It seems like we are just drowning in sewage.

I had a few really generous giveaways from a few people on here and it really makes a difference to how I see people. There are plenty of scammers but also plenty of really nice, decent people who go out of their way to help others. It's nice to know not everyone is out to rip you off.
267  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Best Alt coin to invest in 2014 on: April 09, 2014, 10:41:26 AM
The best time to buy the next big thing is when it has just been listed on an exchange. Once it starts shooting up in price it is usually too late to buy at really low prices. I regret not buying doge when it was newly listed on coinedup and dirt cheap. It might well survive the current downturn and shoot up in price in the future.

Some of the new PoS coins seem popular and you can get the newly listed ones at really low prices. They might be really big later in 2014.
268  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RESURRECTION] Taking Beecoin to the Hive, Bees Back Flying!New Client Update! on: April 09, 2014, 01:08:38 AM
Hey Everybody have noticed that We really need to get on a good exchange or else their won't be anywhere to trade Bees!

Currently:

EXCHANGES
https://www.cryptorush.in Bitcoin market removed still trade for LTC/DOGE/POT Can't withdraw LTC though, plus everything at your own risk
https://www.allcoin.com/trade/bee_btc Bitcoin market removed yesterday still trade for LTC
https://coin-swap.net/market/BEE/ Beecoin removed
http://pmtocoins.com/Site down
http://www.178coin.com Beecoin removed

So Keep voting on Mintpal, We are currently 29th on the list or about 5.21 BTC worth of votes away from the top!  If you can't afford to buy votes just try and vote multiple times a day with the 5 free votes an hour!

I just tried

https://www.allcoin.com/trade/bee_btc

and it said the market does not exist and I was redirected to the site home page. Like you said there is still a BEE/litecoin market there. They must have recently removed the BEE/bitcoin market because BEE was trading below 1 sat.

They fixed the OpenSSL bug quickly though. The top of the site currently says

We've solved the OpenSSL Heartbleed Bug and passed the safety test

269  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: FAIRCOIN MULTIPOOL on: April 09, 2014, 12:41:53 AM
I have not been keeping up to date on fair coin recently. Does the new multipool intend to raise the price of fair coin up to a certain level, then maintain it at a fixed price, or is the idea to continually raise the price as much as possible? Multipools are a new concept for me that I do not fully understand yet.

"A bug in OpenSSL, used by Bitcoin-Qt/Bitcoin Core, could allow your bitcoins to be stolen. Immediately updating Bitcoin Core to 0.9.1 is required in some cases, especially if you're using 0.9.0. "

A quick question for the dev:

Can this bug affect Communitycoin?

The bug can affect the exchanges COMM is traded on. COMM itself is using OpenSSL 1.0.1e and is therefore vulnerable, as BitcoinFX just pointed out.

I cannot find anything on the mintpal website about them having to upgrade to fix the OpenSSL vulnerability, but it is sure to be fixed by the time COMM is listed there, if it needs fixing .

The only exchange currently trading COMM, AllCrypt.com, upgraded the SSL of the server as soon as they heard about it

https://www.allcrypt.com/blog/2014/04/allcrypt-com-safe-from-ssl-heartbleed-bug/

Even the really big exchanges are affected. Bitstamp decided to temporally deactivate: -account registration -account login -and all virtual currency withdrawal functions while fixing the OpenSSL vulnerability.

https://www.bitstamp.net/article/statement-regarding-opensll-vulnerability/

Later, Bitstamp Support made a post stating Bitstamp is now secure from the reported OpenSSL vulnerability. Account registration and login functionality have been restored. All API keys have been reset. Finally, withdrawals will be restored by 8:00 GMT tomorrow.

I just found this post on the CGA thread about their fix for the new OpenSSL vulnerability. Apparently it is called the Heartbleed bug and allows anyone on the Internet to read the memory of the systems protected by the vulnerable versions of the OpenSSL software. It looks like most coin's Qt wallets will need updating to the latest OpenSSL version because of this, including bitcoin's Qt wallet.

Ok Windows wallet has been updated (1.3.3.3) with the latest OpenSSL release (1.0.1g) to fix the "heartbleed bug" I am working on getting a clean OSX build environment so I can update the OSX wallet. I suggest Linux users update there version of OpenSSL and recompile the wallet.

This update is not mandatory but is strongly advised. To learn more about the bug read here: http://heartbleed.com/

Because i can´t find it : How many stakes left / when distribution is over? I registrated yesterday (too late? Or will i get some coins?)

Thanks

I really hope the dev can give us, active members, some feedback:

Were we rejected?

What's the reason of rejection?

Make it open, Make it fairer.

On April 07 the dev said we need about 100 members more

everyone try to get somebody in to comm we need about 100 members more to reach 500
http://communitycoin.info/apply/

Early today the dev said you will have to wait extra 24 hours after he finishes processing the final applications in his list

Delivery is just happening... 15 more applications left. Hurry and apply before i finish those not applied so you dont have to wait extra 24 hours.

Later today the dev said he had just cleaned up his backlogs and no new application were waiting his review

yes just cleaned up my backlogs. So so far no new application waiting my review.

Someone just started a thread about a new security flaw affecting OpenSSL and all wallets using anything but the latest version.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=561464.0

He says "although the vulnerability has been addressed in OpenSSL's version 1.0.1g, it is present in prior versions up to 1.0.1f."

He goes on to say he checked the current Vertcoin wallet and it is vulnerable because it is using version 1.0.1'c'.

Apparently CGA and YACC will be updated soon.

The thread also says any exchanges using OpenSSL are vulnerable too.

I just checked the latest community coin wallet but could not find the OpenSSL version it uses.

All I could find in the Qt help was "This product includes software developed by the OpenSSL Project".

Thanks for sharing information! This should be checked!

So far, when dev will be online, things to get him to take into consideration:

1. Check, which OpenSSL version is used in software.
2. Update OP with link to Mac OSX wallet (and donation address for instacash). Wallet works without problems (I am waiting for PoS to kick in now, but should be fine)

Anyone has something to add to list?

The original thread said that some exchanges use OpenSSL, and any using older versions are vulnerable to being hacked. I know COMM is already being traded on allcrypt and we are voting to be listed on mintpal. Perhaps someone with expertise in this field knows how to check if these exchanges use OpenSSL and if so, what version they are using.

If either exchange has not upgraded then it risks getting hacked. I would not like anyone in the COMM community to lose coins while trading on a vulnerable exchange. It would be great if someone could check and tell us if allcrypt or mintpal is vulnerable to this attack.
274  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: I think the shitcoin flood is ending ... on: April 08, 2014, 07:47:46 PM
Maybe if bitcoin falls further in value there will be less and less shit coins released. I heard that before bitcoin zoomed up in value there were very few alts, perhaps because people thought there would be no money in them. By last christmas people were talking about bitcoin hitting $1 million, and the dollar signs obviously lit up in plenty of unscrupulous devs eyes.

276  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why the low volume on Bittrex? on: April 08, 2014, 01:18:09 PM
They are a new exchange and I assume they opened in recently 2014 judging by the copyright at the bottom of their page. It takes time to build trust and so many exchanges outright scam people or get hacked nowadays that an exchange has to demonstrate it is reliable for a long period of time before people really start trusting it in big numbers.

I considered trading fair coin there but as you say, the volume is very low. Since the 4th of this month the biggest fair coin trade has been for 2100 coins which is nothing compared to mintpal. I guess it must have opened later than mintpal.
277  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] BlackCoin (BC) | on exchanges | PoS | No premine on: April 08, 2014, 10:44:19 AM
There has to be a correction soon, Dont see how this is supposed to hold.

What do you mean hold?  This isn't PoW land anymore.  The only way it 'breaks' is if someone who:

Knows BC is rare
Knows BC is gaining in popularity
Knows BC is gaining hashrate quickly
Knows BC is the only positive buy-pressure coin
Knows BC is unable to be mined and auto-dumped
Knows BC is benefiting from some of the best grass-roots development in crytpo
Knows BC is proving to be one of the most stable coins despite BTC's drop
Knows BC is likely to be holding or increasing in value daily, based on current patterns.

Decides to dump...?

The black coin multipool certainly seems to be working at present. I heard mint tried a multipool but it went wrong and nobody seems sure what the reason was. Will it affect black coin if other coins adopt the same idea and start running multipools for their coins?

I think the mint team is still considering reviving theirs.
278  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of Stake Investment - NVC/HBN/PHS/TEK/and more on: April 08, 2014, 10:33:30 AM
I try to keep my wallet locked and closed most of the time.
Ill open it now and then and get my stake, but keeping it open 24/7 is asking for trouble.

I agree, the way that wallets work currently it's not a good idea from a security perspective.

One of the new features being added to PoS coin wallets is to allow encrypted wallets to stake.

Great, I like the whole PoS concept, but I hate the idea of being forced to leave an open wallet connected to the network for extended periods of time. If someone invents a way to let an encrypted wallet stake it should encourage a lot more people to adopt PoS coins.

Who is developing this new feature?
279  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Was this forum always like this? on: April 07, 2014, 11:09:41 PM
It used to be just Ixcoin, then I0coin, then Solidcoin, then tenebrix/fairbrix. Then came Litecoin and the floodgates kind of opened up after that.

I'm new and only recently heard Solidcoin even existed. Recently I found one really small exchange still trading it. I never even heard of tenebrix/fairbrix until, now. None of these coins are even on coinmarketcap and there are some really shit coins right at the bottom of it.

If there were only a few alt coins back in Solidcoin's day and quite a few seem to be dead, how many of today's shit coins will go the same way? I bet that in a year's time newcomers will never even know half of the coins on coinmarketcap today even existed.
280  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which coin will skyrocket? on: April 07, 2014, 09:06:57 PM
Zetacoin just rocketed to da moon  Smiley

I read an article that said zeta coin sky rocketed because of some unknown development due to be announced. It said some people on here were saying it is a pump and dump, but others were saying something big is in the pipeline for zeta.

Has anyone any idea what the unknown development due to be announced actually is?

Is it just another pump and dump fueled by rumors?
