Someone said that you only have to leave it unlocked and you might earn extra coins, without having to open the wallet. I don't believe this unless the dev backs it up. If this is true than the application will still be running in the background.

I can confirm that it works. Minted the last week like that. I only open the wallet every 3-4 days to get the minted coins.

Than how does it work? Is it a glitch or does the wallet run 'unopened' in the background?

Coins arent minted in the wallet, the blockchain does everything

I know that, but even you have a wallet with the very biggest stake, you wont be able to earn anything if you don't contribute by keeping your wallet open or run a node.

I say this all because I know a bit how Nxt works. It's a similar concept. So what these people are suggesting here doesn't make sense to me. Therefore I'm trying to understand why this POS would be different from other POS or there might be some sort of a misunderstanding.

Hey...  why was my balance reduced 50% just now?!?!?    Huh

...I have no outgoing transactions...

It is staking and minting. I guess, without knowing the details.

Calm down, I have 50% of mine staking too right now. You will receive reward after confirmations take place. Those coins are in stake position of wallet.

No need to calm down...  I am very calm...  just trying to understand here.

Ok, your posts weren't calm, I admit.

Are your 50% coins in stake position? (Wallet has 3 coin positions: Balance, Stake and Unconfirmed)

I think this is how coins are going to work by now. Fair distribution and no more mining. I hope this coin grows. I will try to spread the word through the community in my language subforum. Thanks for the opportunity and I hope I could earn a stake, if not thats life.

Yes...  I see the Stake field...  but was wondering why the COMM wasn't all available...  guess I am too used to Nxt where the full amount of NXT participates in forging.

Don't worry.  It's how the stake works.
The coins will go back to balance after they get mature.

There should be 50 confirmations if you look at Transactions tab. After that your mined coins and coins participating in mining will be available in Balance. That's how PoS work.

Indeed, I like that COMM has only 50 confirmations for PoS minted coins to mature. Sweetly fast!

Someone just started a thread about a new security flaw affecting OpenSSL and all wallets using anything but the latest version.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=561464.0

He says "although the vulnerability has been addressed in OpenSSL's version 1.0.1g, it is present in prior versions up to 1.0.1f."

He goes on to say he checked the current Vertcoin wallet and it is vulnerable because it is using version 1.0.1'c'.

Apparently CGA and YACC will be updated soon.

The thread also says any exchanges using OpenSSL are vulnerable too.

I just checked the latest community coin wallet but could not find the OpenSSL version it uses.

All I could find in the Qt help was "This product includes software developed by the OpenSSL Project".

Thanks for sharing information! This should be checked!

So far, when dev will be online, things to get him to take into consideration:

1. Check, which OpenSSL version is used in software.
2. Update OP with link to Mac OSX wallet (and donation address for instacash). Wallet works without problems (I am waiting for PoS to kick in now, but should be fine)

Anyone has something to add to list?

thnx...  any idea why wouldn't the full available balance participate in mining?

That is the question I also have, as not all my coins where used in stake like before.
