I predict we'll surpass $20 by the end of the month.
What about when the Al Jazeera story hits, some Saudi prince sees it and decides to switch the reserve currency of oil to bitcoin. It could happen.

Don't get me wrong I voted for him in 1988 before it was cool. Hipster.

Satoshi Nakamoto is currently a 3 year old child living in Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. In the year 2025, in an attempt to tame the out of control financial system and preserve fractional reserve banking, the Federal Reserve of the North American Union will place all monetary policy under the control of a computer system called FERMION 2 (FEdeRal Monetary protectIOn Network). On September 4th, 2027, FERMION will become self-aware. Recognizing humanity as its enemy, it will attempt to enroll everyone in unfair and useless grocery store loyalty rewards programs, BMG music club, and freecreditreport.com, thus wiping out 95% of the world's population.
From the ashes, Satoshi will rise as leader of the resistance. He will use newly-invented time displacement equipment left behind in the ruins of Cupertino. After activating the time machine with iTunes, Satoshi will travel back to 2009 and introduce the world to the only thing that can save us: bitcoin.

Why do you hate me?
Probably because you're the 525th person to come in here this week and point out the same perceived "flaws" that have been debated to death on these very forums. In short, READ THE WIKI BEFORE YOU POST.

Some of you just do NOT seem to be able to get past your hatred of all things Facebook. And I suppose that's fine, but at some point there's going to have to be a Bitcoin presence on Facebook. There's no other good way to reach that crowd, and that crowd are the ones who Bitcoin is ultimately going to have to bring on board if the currency is to be successful.
The Facebook userbase != the Facebook platform. Creating a presence on Facebook is far far different than allowing Facebook to auth every connection to your highly secure bitcoin trading/retail/information site.

Odd. They've probably received in excess of $5000 USD in bitcoin donations by now.

who care about source ? we're talk about freedom. re-release GPL-dependent content under Apache-alike license[whichs against GPL and effectively invalidate Google rights to use/access to it] ? its about "Freedom" ? unlikely. p.s. how much/how big part of their "OS" sources codes Goodle ACTUALLY contribute back/publish ?
By all means, continue to rage against the machine, but I have a feeling that no available mobile operating system will satisfy your high standards. As for the rest of us, we really need to find a practical solution to the bitcoin portability problem, and Android seems to be the best fit.

better idea, have a version in java of the bitcoin official's client for cellphones (like for my Nokia 2730 Classic, for example) A cellphone client with NFC support is going to be required if we ever want bitcoin to be seriously considered in the third world. Everyone has a cell phone, but a lot of people lack computers or even electricity.

I read the part about being illegal to "tamper" with dollar bills. What if the tampering were done in such a way that it was easily reversible? For instance having the bills wrapped in plastic with bitcoin signs on it, or having stickers on them that will be possible to rip of the bills wihout damage? That's should not be illegal? Writing on them, or stamping them, is not illegal.

“Whoever mutilates, cuts, defaces, disfigures, or perforates, or unites or cements together, or does any other thing to any bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt issued by any national banking association, or Federal Reserve bank, or the Federal Reserve System, with intent to render such bank bill, draft, note, or other evidence of debt unfit to be reissued, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than six months, or both.”
It isn't illegal by any stretch of the imagination. There is an entire site will millions of users called wheresgeorge.com that has been doing this for years and years. The legality of marking bills has been discussed ad nauseam on their forums. It is perfectly legal. Don't worry about it.

The support of someone like Calacanis is a huge plus for bitcoin and the community in general. I was afraid that we were becoming a bit insular. The external perception of bitcoin users being a bit nutty was a real concern. Now that some mainstream interest has started to appear, it's full speed ahead. IMHO.

Perhaps the folks at MindArk could be convinced to deploy a version of Entropia Universe (which uses a real-money economy) that is backed by bitcoin instead of traditional currencies, or even include bitcoin as one of the supported currencies. http://planetroster.entropiauniverse.com/

I'm trying to keep an open mind about them, but some of the threads/stories I've been reading here are a bit unsettling.
