***Win an XC TOR Stick signed by Dan Metcalf!***
Here's your chance to win the industry-leading privacy tool signed by its incredible developer! How to win:When the XC Bitcointalk thread reaches page 1000, do the following: 1) Use XChat to send a message to: Address: XDzTA6xMsx1FJkitgKaj3S9mMvPQEzN4w9 Public key: eRyb6fBBZxfkVp1kLcgc81WQuZw8pgpPwkVfKNhJBHBC (If you don't have XChat yet, download it here.) 2) Post the address you sent the message from onto the Official XC Forum here. 3) Put your XChat address and public key into your Bitcointalk signature. Since XChat is not yet released for Mac and Linux, users can alternatively send a micropayment to the address above, and then post their sending address on the Official XC Forum as described.
The competition will run for 24 hours from the time of the first post on page 1000.
The winner will be decided upon by a suitably random method. If needs be, a video or other means of proof will be posted to establish the randomness of the selection.
The signed TOR Stick will be shipped to the winner at the earliest possible date. This may be in advance of TOR Sticks being shipped to the general public.

Arlyn... just sent a message. Did you receive it?
Yeah, just replied now.

Can I just download the new wallet and it will automatically update? Or should I move my coins, delete the old one and then download the new one.
I'm not that tech illiterate, I just want to be careful...I have enough coins that I would like to be over cautious...
You should always maintain a backup of both your wallet.dat and your private keys. Instructions are here. This way, you can just download and run new updates without worrying. In addition, whenever you make a payment you should use coin control to specify an address for change to be sent to. Otherwise a change address will be created and you'll then have to back it up too.

Er okay how the hell do I use chat LOL.
See now this crap is starting to get way in front of me and I fear the less tech savy might struggle with this hehe.... "cough".
Hopefully rev 2.5 will make things more user friendly. Heh. Rev 2.5 certainly will. BrewCrewFan, send me a message. 1. On the "Receive Coins" tab, create a new address and label it "Chat" or something. 2. Copy your address and paste it into the "from" field on the "Messages" tab (use the "paste" icon to the right of the field). 3. Copy XHK5fr4hV4pbsdax6kxcD6MRQ1cijxWehX and paste it into the "to" field (use the icon again). 4. Copy 28kxMc4gitHiYXrgzggAhr5KUhsG8onDqqBBGeL8RipZG and paste it into the "key" field. 5. Write me a message. P.S. Fully unlock your app before doing all this.

I like the idea of doing something special to promote the tor-stick on page 1000 but would really hate to see a couple of pages after that with discussion about it not being a fair/random giveaway. Why not ask all to add there XChat address to there sig and use something like the SatoshiDice formule to select someone. That way we all help promote XChat around BCT & skip any discussion afterwards.
Or keep it simple & just give them away to the members that funded the marketing
I agree that it's better to avoid complaints - and a 24 hour competition will help with that. XChat addresses on signatures is good too... as long as entrants use XChat to enter. Now I wonder how we might randomise the selection... how would the satoshidice thing work here?

Good point.
While we're on this topic, nothing prevents people sending multiple chat messages from multiple addresses.
If people have to identify themselves here (or in a chat message), they can use multiple Bitcointalk accounts.
Hmm... I'm now gravitating toward a "whoever sends first" idea again.
Two options: - Make it a 24 hour competition, but give forum trolls an advantage due to entrants having to identify their messages/payments in this thread. - Make it a "whoever sends first" competition, and disadvantage whoever's offline at post 1000. What do you all think? why not just draw it from the xctalk member list, that could encourage people to open an account over there. Well, we want people to use XChat. Perhaps we could require entrants to post their address in a topic on xctalk too... I'm happy with that. While it doesn't solve the problem of multiple accounts, it does reduce it a fair bit. Everyone happy with this arrangement?

And in addition:
- When XC's Bitcointalk thread reaches 1000 pages, one fortunate community member will win a TOR Stick signed by Dan!
- Suggestions as to how to pick the winner are welcome.
Or we could use XChat to enter by sending some sort of judge a message... I think you've got it. On page 1000, an XChat address and pubkey will be posted. Whoever I receive a message from first wins the TOR Stick! I was thinking more along the lines of enter with XChat, then randomly chosen from the pool. It's probably going to be like 3 in the morning around here when the thread hit 1000 pages... It would be fair if with the posting of the XChat address a 24h period starts within everyone has the chance to partake by sending his forum name to that address. And at the end a random community member is chosen. Ok here's a suggestion: - On page 1000 an address and public key will be posted. - Everyone gets 24 hours to post to it. - For Mac and Linux users, instead of sending a message they can send a micropayment to the address. - After 24 hours I'll select one of the addresses, post it here, and the winner can claim ownership of it by sending another message with his/her username on it (or by sending a highly specific micropayment and then posting the amount on Bitcointalk). How does that sound? But how can you avoid one person to attend multiple times with a micropayment to increase his chances? edit: if one posts his sending address here on the forum it would work +1 Good point. Just a thought. Isn't the term "public" used on the XC platform an oxymoron?
Heh. I love the elegance with which public key encryption conceals information yet proves you own it. That sort of cryptographic trickery feels like an apt metaphor for XC.

how do i get my key? Thanks..
Your public key? Go to the "Receive Coins" tab. Right-click on an address. Click "copy public key". Paste. Thanks: mine is "buggy' when i try to paste in the public key to "to" address dissapears Are you trying to send a message to one of your own addresses?

I think the free stic should go to mr.random for donating what he did for the PR and such...
Lovely suggestion. I'd say that if the community votes for this then we'd do it. Or potentially just give him one in addition. ;-)

maybe its rude though to exclude the guys who are unable to run the wallet, because they clearly need a Tor-stick the most.
Fair point too. Everybody stop posting until the Linux and Mac versions are out! Apologies. That was facetious of me.

I dunno when. Fair points... I might be asleep too. In its favour though is that a bunch of messages in XChat would be immune to bias because they'd be anonymous, so I could draw a winner fairly.

Ok chat works, but I've still a little doubt!
What's the utility of this feature? I mean if I can just talk with only one person, why I need it?
Because you can chat with one person, secure in the knowledge that there isn't a second person snooping on your conversation! Future versions will include voice chat, video chat, and group chat... on your phone.

|
|
Okay Step #1, go to receive coins, create a NEW entry for XChat
Step #2, go to address book, add a new entry for the person you want to chat with
Step #3, go to messages, select your address from step #1 (this goes in from field)
Step #4, put address from step #2 in the to field
Step #5, paste users pubkey in key field
Dan
go to xcwallet icon and click right click on mouse buttton -> properties and on " Target " box replace with : "C:\Program Files (x86)\XCurrency\XCurrency-qt.exe" C:\Program Files (x86)\XCurrency>XCurrency-qt.exe -addnode=104.131.208.92 -addnode=104.131.207.232 -addnode=192.241.195.38 Yes this release has been moved over from testing to release status... While there are still some minor updates coming, release is ready for all :-) http://downloads.xc-official.com/release/windows/setup.exe - v2.47f Awesome work Dan!
