And in addition:

- When XC's Bitcointalk thread reaches 1000 pages, one fortunate community member will win a TOR Stick signed by Dan!

- Suggestions as to how to pick the winner are welcome.

Or we could use XChat to enter by sending some sort of judge a message...

I think you've got it.

On page 1000, an XChat address and pubkey will be posted.

Whoever I receive a message from first wins the TOR Stick!

I was thinking more along the lines of enter with XChat, then randomly chosen from the pool.  It's probably going to be like 3 in the morning around here when the thread hit 1000 pages...

It would be fair if with the posting of the XChat address a 24h period starts within everyone has the chance to partake by sending his forum name to that address.
And at the end a random community member is chosen.

Ok here's a suggestion:

- On page 1000 an address and public key will be posted.

- Everyone gets 24 hours to post to it.

- For Mac and Linux users, instead of sending a message they can send a micropayment to the address.

- After 24 hours I'll select one of the addresses, post it here, and the winner can claim ownership of it by sending another message with his/her username on it (or by sending a highly specific micropayment and then posting the amount on Bitcointalk).

How does that sound?

Lovely suggestion.

I'd say that if the community votes for this then we'd do it.

Or potentially just give him one in addition. ;-)

But how can you avoid one person to attend multiple times with a micropayment to increase his chances?

edit: if one posts his sending address here on the forum it would work

Just a thought. Isn't the term "public" used on the XC platform an oxymoron?

Heh. I love the elegance with which public key encryption conceals information yet proves you own it.

That sort of cryptographic trickery feels like an apt metaphor for XC.

Good point.

While we're on this topic, nothing prevents people sending multiple chat messages from multiple addresses.

If people have to identify themselves here (or in a chat message), they can use multiple Bitcointalk accounts.

Hmm... I'm now gravitating toward a "whoever sends first" idea again.

Two options:

- Make it a 24 hour competition, but give forum trolls an advantage due to entrants having to identify their messages/payments in this thread.

- Make it a "whoever sends first" competition, and disadvantage whoever's offline at post 1000.

What do you all think?

why not just draw it from the xctalk member list, that could encourage people to open an account over there.

I like the idea of doing something special to promote the tor-stick on page 1000 but would really hate to see a couple of pages after that with discussion about it not being a fair/random giveaway.
Why not ask all to add there XChat address to there sig and use something like the SatoshiDice formule to select someone. That way we all help promote XChat around BCT & skip any discussion afterwards.

Or keep it simple & just give them away to the members that funded the marketing

Well, we want people to use XChat.

Perhaps we could require entrants to post their address in a topic on xctalk too... I'm happy with that. While it doesn't solve the problem of multiple accounts, it does reduce it a fair bit.

Everyone happy with this arrangement?

i think thats been to many and some just gave small amounts incl. me. I wouldn't want a free torstick for that.
Mr. Random is another story ,
