That's not how the merged mining works...

Only the primary coin is pooled with the share chain, so computers mining off of your p2pool, can use a specific address, and their address will be injected into the chain, instead of yours, for payouts. Your primary coin would be BTC or LTC depending on the network you set it up for.

All of your --merged mining coins, however, are not pooled. You are strictly solo mining those. You would get the rewards on those. No address gets passed from the miner to the --merged coin.

Anyone mining on your node, would be donating their hash power, towards your solo mining the --merged coin. If you wanted to distribute your --merged coin to the people mining on your node, you have to do that externally, p2pool does not support that.

-- Smoov

well, since you seem to know how this works..

What exactly does the 'efficiency' rating indicate?

it has me bumpuzzled

Not quite $50 but it is a Xeon which means it is much more reliable than el-cheapo Pentium/Celeron.
oh, but that's a new (oem it looks like) one..

there!

used one for $25

(hmm, nm, I read the description, it wouldn't work)

ok, the $85 one was good

2623  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool Server List on: June 22, 2012, 06:57:05 PM
oh, and your namecoin address has to be the same as your bitcoin address

which leads to all sorts of shenanigans, which i'm not going to trifle with!
No, you as the node operator get all the merged mining profits unless you set up a way to distribute them.
really?  oh, that's better then.

i guess i could manually send them out.

i set that up on a whim, it seems like p2pool isn't very efficient, anyway
2624  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool Server List on: June 22, 2012, 06:22:45 PM
i have one that's just running for no purpose really myself,

it's at 5.9.24.81:9332

username set to whatever your payout address is

uh, it's also set for merged mining with namecoins.  although as i understand it, you'd actually have to solve a namecoin block and then you'd get ~50nmc.

fee is 0%

it's located in falkenstein, germany

and i'm running the latest bitcoind, 0.6.3rc1

i think it works!

i post this in newbies forum since it's probably something simple, but

https://blockchain.info/tx-index/10234706/4664a0e0662789e5db879512440a2ce4978cf172d03ce10fcd78981c3f7decb1

it shows 50 bitcoins going to 1JLNLh9Np6iCh1dxnedXQx8rTpBetdvxv1

one of the input addresses:

https://blockchain.info/address/1qT6e3nDLqUyeWRcQETWF4Yv7SbZQQTa4

shows it as sending 50 bitcoins to 1JLN*

all the input addresses show the same thing, 50 btc to that address

i'm guessing this is just a bug in blockchain.info's method of reporting transactions?

Not exactly. The input addresses sent minor amounts but the transaction output was of 50 BTC.
The 50BTC you talk is the output. The inputs are composed of smaller values. I see nothing strange in that transaction.

yeah, that's what i thought.

it's just blockchain.info showing total output to an address instead of specific output from that particular address

which to me, seems like it should be changed

ed:

for example,  this input address:

https://blockchain.info/address/1CbVKwzDqjvbjhuUHinkXCN89rBHUSxfHS

should show 1.52629968 outgoing to 1JLNLh9Np6iCh1dxnedXQx8rTpBetdvxv1

ed: oh, haha, it's still there.  $127.50 now, though

The problem with that board is that it's a socket 1366. Even a used, 3 year old 920 is ~150. The MB in the OP is socket 1155, which is a lot cheaper to shop for. Newegg is selling a socket 1155 Celeron G440 for $41 with free shipping. Much better deal, imo.

you can grab a used Xeon for $50 or so, I'd think
2633  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: 5970 mining thread on: June 21, 2012, 02:40:00 PM
What's the best brand for 5970 in terms of overclocking/Mhps?

I got my Gigabyte 5870 to 450Mbps without much sweat, which is quite high for a 5870.

But my Gigabyte 5970s can't seem to go post 700Mhps without freezing the whole system  :/

I'm running them at 180/800MHz/Default voltage

Mbps? You mean MH/s? Wink I kid...

It's really card dependent. I like PowerColor, Sapphire, and Asus. A lot of people have good luck with Gigabyte. I've heard to stay away from XFX and Diamond, but again, YMMV. There is no BEST brand for OCing.

Also, while a 5970 is technically 2x 5870s in one card, the voltages are lower to keep the power/temps down. Stock voltage on a 5870 is 1.174, while stock voltage on a 5970 is 1.050. If you lowered your 5870 down to 1.05, you won't be getting 450MH/s.

If you raised your 5970 to 1.174, you MIGHT be able to get 400+ per core, but it would be a very bad idea. Power draw increases, temps become too much for the shared cooler, and your VRM temps would be through the roof. Not a good idea.

Side note: Here are my 5870 speeds, for undervolting comparison:
460MH/s - 980/300/1.174 - My "all out" setting
425MH/s - 925/300/1.000 - My "max profit" setting
350MH/s - 755/300/0.950 - My "keep the temps down" setting.

I think my card can get higher clocks at each voltages than average, so yours may be a little lower.

you should try higher at 0.950v...   mine has been stable for 200+ hrs at 830/195/0.950

the next step for me is 940/195/1.112

then 1010/195/1.175

it's xfx non-ref (hmm or maybe a sapphire non-ref...  haha)

2635  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 21, 2012, 02:25:42 PM
I haven't done the math, but I would imagine that extra water vapour in the air would increase it's heat capacity. Humid air might be able to absorb more heat per volume than dry air of the same temperature, but even if that happened I would imagine the effect would be pretty small. I'd love to know the answer if someone wants to do the math, though.
It's like a sauna in there during the day...   Grin

I'm quite sure it's more humid than it is outside... oppressive as all hell...  though that could be from different reasons, I guess the water vapor would tend to sink?  My vent is the top of the window (*opens two ways), w/ air blowing in from bottom.

2637  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 840 MHash on 5970 - Good or Bad? on: June 21, 2012, 02:12:03 PM
with such a high temperature you risk burning the core that is at the rear of the card since that one gets hotter then the first one in the case of the 5970s.
Anything over 100C you risk burning the card.
I would not ran the card above 95C.

The 5970s can be overclocked safely only if you have it in  a room with cool air.
It is possible to get over 900 Mhash/s with water cooling, however very large radiators will be needed to keep the water cool.

In a hot room  and using air cooling, the card will get about 640 Mhz since it will not be possible to overclock without risk of overheating it.

The diff in temperate between the cores is about 14C, which means the outer core has a much higher risk of overheating.

i have 5 in a room where ambient is outside temperature + a few degrees, so right now that'd be around 95oF, close to 100.  35 - 37oC...  I dunno if heat index matters, since cards don't sweat but who knows. All that humidity in the air might make it harder to dissipate heat from the heat sinks or something, I'm sure someone else here would know.

but.... anyway, I have one system that's water-cooled with 3x 5970... but another with two reference 5970's w/ stock fans.  I run those two at 810 core, 150 memory, @ 1.010v (though I think everything between 1.005 and 1.035 is all the same)...  anyway...  the hottest they get is around 72-73oC, and that's getting about 740mhash or so.   The next step down would be 730/150 @ 0.990v, I believe that's around 660mhash, and drops the temps about 5oC.       oh, this is all with a 25w or so honeywell fan blowing on them

anyway, i guess maybe 1.05v isn't overclocking it.  *boggle*  It's just the highest default performance level, at least on my cards.  i've never taken my 5970's past 1.050v.   i didn't even know they cost go past 1.050v until recently, tbh.  they've always been running on ubuntu.

and if you run SDK 2.1, then you only lose about 1% performance by dropping memory from 300 to 150 and using worksize 128 instead of 256.

Sorry I missed something. I have cgminer miner pointing at you correctly. Trying to set up Namecoin. But it is not accepting the Namecoin address.

What is "Signature (sign the Namecoin address with your bitcoin address):"

Is this the mining address? If so is that unsafe?

But anyway tried it and still could not set up NameCoin.

Phil
I can set up namecoin, but I still have no idea what the hell that gibberish is referring to on the 'register merged mining' section, so I guess I'll be giving it a pass.

I use a Hetzner server, 42 euros for 16GB RAM, 2x3TB HDD's, core i7-2600 quad core, up to 10 TB of 100mbps/100mbps on a 1gbit port (i haven't tried to upload anything really, but you can download at 100MB/s, anyway, so it utilizes that one gigabit port).

Oh, it also comes with that nice 2-week refund policy, courtesy of some german law.

i prefer the non-reloadable visa's

go to entropay.com or something like that, you will see these

but you won't be able to get it if you're from the USA

(ed: actually, i think that's just neteller that totally bans USA.   entropay, you'd just have to give them all sorts of information, because of patriot act)
