What is going on here? Are we only interested in nonsense?

I am trying to wake us up. Seems the drugs are too good.

It's 2-4am in the states, maybe a wake-up call should be made later in the day.
2622  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [AEON] Aeon Speculation on: January 14, 2016, 06:57:42 AM
Thank you smooth. No ill intentions on my part.

I think we need to do something. We have a lot of power as a community. We are not using that power effectively as far as I can see. Maybe I don't see everything though. That is why I am interested in learning about what others are thinking this is all about.

Are we just here to make a buck speculating on the cheapest smallest market cap? Or are we here to change the world?

What difference does it make if you profit enough to buy a new car here but the world goes to shit?

I don't understand our behavior.

I think the minimal digital footprint is a worthy goal. Give easier access to digital cash to those who can only afford, beg, borrow, share or steal devices with limited capacities and let them take part in the information economy. People in the jungles of South America or the rural areas of the Pacific deserve to have low cost solutions. Now, how to market it? Who knows? Is it at the level it can be used on simple devices? Would think simple wallets for android devices would follow that step.

Ambush

My Master Sergeant and I wait inside the Shaman's house. I hear crickets chirping outside in the warm spring night. The rest of my men wait patiently outside in the shadows for what must come tonight--if ever. Perhaps they wouldn't come--

Master sergeant, "Pst!"

I peak from behind a large cauldron and see the sergeant pointing at the door. The sergeant tenses in anticipation from behind a desk. We watch the door. And ever so slowly, slow as a man reaching for his dagger in a game of poker that's about to go south, the brass handle inches and creaks to the right--

The door flies open!

Three Trolls burst in, one yells, "Upstairs! Get 'em before they wake!"

Two of the Trolls run up the stairs. There's a commotion, furniture being tossed, the Trolls yelling in consternation...

The sergeant and I watch the Troll downstairs wait impatiently and yell, "Well, what of it! Have you taken the king?"

One of the Trolls upstairs yells back, "There's no King to be had! The rooms are empty--"

"Whada you mean empty?" the Troll screams as he walks to the foot of the steps.

My sergeant comes out from behind the desk, covers the Trolls mouth with his left hand while raking his dagger across his neck with the other.

"I mean there ain't no King to be found, Tok. You want to come look yourself?"

We hear the voice get closer as we pull the body away from the stairs. We ready ourselves as the footsteps get closer.

"Go up and look your--"

I put my sword Vengeance through his liver and out the other side. Warm blood spurts out onto the hilt and onto my hand. The sergeant runs up the stairs and I follow. My sergeant is on the last troll before he knows what is happening. He falls to the floor and twitches as blood pools around his body.

I laugh, "Easier than I thought. It's strange that I don't feel pity for these creatures. They're almost human."

My sergeant gives me a stern look, "Almost--"

We start down the stairs when we hear yelling outside. We were so in tune with the details of our mission that we forgot about the men outside.
We go outside and are spellbound; Trolls fighting, dead Trolls on the ground, my men no where to be seen...?

The sergeant and I stand our ground ready for an assault, but these Trolls seem intent on killing each other.

I say, "Sergeant, is this some sort of coup? I hardly know who to rout for."

The sergeant looks shocked and afraid (seeing his fear drives an icy spike through my heart), "Sir, see the standard bearer, there! He guards our Eagle!"

I stare in disbelief,  "I don't understand--"

The sergeant grabs my arm, "There's magic here. No Troll would guard our standard. That's our man in the presence of a Troll."

I turn around and look into the blade of my sword, cursed and damned from magic, and see the reflection of my men at battle with one another. A turn and see a man on a black horse on a nearby hill in the dusk light, he waves a black staff over the scene and wears a mask of silver.

I say to my sergeant, "It's the boy-king. I'm sure of it!" I grab my sergeant by the shoulders, "Go to each man and state the oath of our fathers, the oath of our allegiance to the one true King, tell them to stop their fighting and that magic has hold of them. Tell them to look to the
standards and that no Troll should have the insight or courage to guard the symbol of our true and honest might! Go!"

And with that I ran to my horse, got on and galloped fast as I could toward the illusionist wielding the power to dim men's minds to the reality which is present to all who know truth. I glanced back at my men. They had not stopped fighting altogether, but the Sergeant's earnest pleas had diminished their violence and they did not all together trust what seemed apparent to their eyes. As I neared the boy-king, I reared back my arm and swung at him with all my might--

Air! An empty swing that almost knocks me from my horse.

The spell's broken. My men star at each other in disbelief. We see a great mass of fallen Trolls, but also our friends and comrades among those taken by the might of our swords. My heart sinks in sorrow as I wait to hear the tally of our dead....

It's really premature to count a few million in market cap as significant

LoL. No it isn't.

This early it's like making free throws in warm-ups. But nice evasion of the technical points. The ground's shifting and you're shouting, "Look where we stand!"
2625  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Honestly, which is better? Monero or Dash? on: January 13, 2016, 04:36:28 PM

When I found out about the instamine I stayed away from Dash, the other flaws validate my decision--clumsy cryptography, shabbily implemented.

...and you've waged a loosing campaign on that basis ever since  Wink

(With about as much success as you had here).

A loosing campaign? Loosing the truth from the grasps of dashtards, maybe. This revolution hasn't started or won't start anytime soon (or won't start ever). It's really premature to count a few million in market cap as significant when real success will be counted in multiples of billions above the current Bitcoin market cap. And last time I checked dash's market cap had stagnated, so I'm not sure where you see the success or the winning campaign. It even seems that Dash has declined with the Evolution and the parallel marketing push. I think a reality check is in order.
2626  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Honestly, which is better? Monero or Dash? on: January 13, 2016, 04:18:04 PM

It is our duty to make them aware of the entire history

So I've heard.

Are you going to get uniforms ?

If you were considering investing in dash, wouldn't you want know about the instamine, the flaws inherent in X11 and instantx, the hours you have to wait to perform darksend and how the instamine makes the idea of democratic governance laughable. When I found out about the instamine I stayed away from Dash, the other flaws validate my decision--clumsy cryptography, shabbily implemented.

It is instant & anonymous* in transacting a premixed balance.

* Provided there is an anonymous IP solution as well which I would prefer if it was offered out-of-the-box.
Premixing a balance takes a ridiculous amount of hours/days/weeks depending on how much you're mixing. Dash is marketed as 'instant & anonymous', not 'instant & anonymous if you premix'. This is why it's a dishonest solution for users seeking privacy.

It's like having to call your order ahead of time when you go to the drive-thru, "Sorry sir, it will be about a five hour wait for your burger. Next time you should call a day in advance."
2628  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Honestly, which is better? Monero or Dash? on: January 13, 2016, 07:05:58 AM
We don't know exactly what happened, and are thus unable to rewrite history that is not public knowledge.

What Monero has rewritten is Bytecoin's "atrocious" codebase and de-optimized proof of work.

Well, Monero took Bytecoin's codebase. That much we know.

Monero changed it for the better, so your point is? Do you have one?

I guess his point is that the original innovation and design was in Bytecoin, not Monero. Whether you accept that or not Monero will still be 0.001 tomorrow.

Calling scoreboard before the game even starts is equivalent to me having to listen to Eagles fans say they're going to the Super Bowl because they won the pre-season. None of these coins (not even Bitcoin) is to the point where they can say, "We did it!" But this is illodin trying to get away from a technical discussion--why don't you go mix some dash? Then I won't have to deal with your distraction techniques for at least twenty hours.

You don't know how to code yet are stating that the improvements were easy? Do you always infer so much from so little?

I said I can't code shit in terms of cryptocurrency code but I do have some programming background and experience - although it's not that recent / it's more like in the distant past (with an exception in tweaking cpu and gpu miners in '13 and '14 for scrypt and x11 - primarily for myself). So I know how these things work.

I could say that I don't know how to paint, but Caravaggio's changes made to earlier interpretations of "gospel" paintings were easy--I'd be wrong.

By the way, Dash's innovations are the copying of bad ideas. At the very least, Monero copied a good idea. Though I'm sure smooth or fluffy will be here shortly to tell you how wrong your assumptions on development are.

I'm not sure I even care what anyone says about things that I can judge on my own. It's not going to change my mind on things that I know how they are done.

To relate: For someone with zero pc knowledge, most of tech savy people are like gods if they help others to fix their laptop, or save their data in the event of a crash. The knowledgeable people know what they did is not hard. They just formatted the system or run a data recovery program. Now they can either sell that they were awesome, or they could say that it's not that big of a deal. If you sell the "I am awesome" angle and another tech guy comes along, he'll be like "huh? He just run a frickin' program to undelete your data - how is is he awesome?".

Likewise, in cryptoland the coders are selling the "we are awesome" angle / we are tremendous in what we are developing, etc etc. I'm not buying it because I can understand how the thing works. I only acknowledge real work, based on my own criteria.

Art is not a whole different animal. It's expertise used to craft a user experience (how good or bad that experience that is is dependent on the user/viewer). Nevermind that over a 100,000 lines of code have been attributed to the Monero Devs; the question should be does it significantly improve on what Bytecoin did? Yes. Does it outshine the competitor in this thread for which it is being compared to? Yes. Your perception of work seems to miss what the thread is about. Evan explicitly stated that he doesn't want off protocol anonymity after months of him and the dash community defending it--duh, people have been saying this from the start. Now, if he gets a clue, we'll see the same change of mind when it comes to X11 and instantx, as TPTB_need_war has pointed out the flaws in both to Evan--though Evan's response AFAIK is crickets. Monero is superior to Dash on every technical level and all you are doing is niggling on what qualifies as hard work. Sad.

Well, Monero took Bytecoin's codebase. That much we know.

Monero changed it for the better, so your point is? Do you have one? I'm guessing you don't understand how forks work and think the first iteration of any technology is somehow a sacred cow that can't be touched or improved. Have you gone through Monero and Bytecoin's code? If you had, you'd understand the many changes and wouldn't be on here making stupid non-points.

I can't code shit, in terms of cryptocurrency code, but I do know that a few tweaks here and there are not anything special.

Whether it is "x11", a fancy block reward, a fixed or adaptive block size, these are fairly trivial in terms of code - if someone knows how to code. If you have the general algorithm in your mind, on what you want to achieve, the rest are easy. But coding a currency from scratch, well, that's another issue altogether.

For example, dash and monero devs, didn't develop a crypto from scratch. They are just adding brush strokes on what was an already existing currency. Dash more so than monero, due to introducing new systems (instantx, masternodes, decentralized voting, darksend etc) but still, the essence is that it is more like brush strokes. If you add a lot more code to what you started, then you start to be more "legit" as an actual coder that can take credit, rather than making tweaks.

That's how I see it at least. That's how I always saw it. People were saying "oh DRK has this, that" I was like, ok guys, let's not brag about that, it's not something THAT special - if I felt the coding effort wasn't anything to brag about, despite the fact that I can't code it (but I know that it's not THAT much of an effort). I feel the same for Monero tweaking the adaptive block size, or doing similar tweaks. I feel the same for people claiming there is some kind of "development" going on with BTC because some punk will fork BTC and make a BTC clone with a different brand (XT, unlimited, superultraunlimited, etc). Like changing a constant is ...development, or a "solution" to the scaling issue. This is bullshit.

Fixing crypto from scratch is the difficult part. Fixing new crypto subsystems is second in difficulty. Tweaking an existing system or making improvements in things that were not-so-optimal, is not the hard part and I can't give much credit for that. People who have no clue, and are in crypto as investors without knowing much about how programming works, might be impressed by apparent "development". I think that's where all the hype is ultimately aimed. "Oh we are so good devs, we did this and that, and allll that. We deserve your investment money". I call bullshit when there is little effort behind it. I will make an exception in genius solutions, like saying a guy comes along and reduces BTC tx bloat by 80-90%, without serious tradeoffs - even if that involves a few lines patch.

You don't know how to code yet are stating that the improvements were easy? Do you always infer so much from so little? I could say that I don't know how to paint, but Caravaggio's changes made to earlier interpretations of "gospel" paintings were easy--I'd be wrong. Most things go from novel to good to genius. It's not by accident that Shakespeare (easily the greatest English playwright) rarely started from scratch. I see little difference between art and technology and evolution in general. But you are entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to point out how inane it is.

By the way, Dash's innovations are the copying of bad ideas. At the very least, Monero copied a good idea. Though I'm sure smooth or fluffy will be here shortly to tell you how wrong your assumptions on development are.

YM,

We have sent a letter in weak cypher with one of our most trusted men, and while this man is trusted, it is that I trust him to see a certain lass with ties to the boy king--a lass who has a knack for decoding crypto and men. The letter outlines how on a certain two days we wish the King to reconsider his travel to our county, and that while we do not question HM's wisdom, we do question his desire to avoid any publicity by traveling with a retinue of only four men (only two armed!). The letter goes on to outline that you are seeing a certain Shaman known to all for his miracles and cures. We do hope the King can provide us with a response that HM should never be questioned in such matters and that two guards will be fine and that any more security provided would be an insult to the King's wishes to keep his ailment private and far from the lips of gossipers (who are known to inhabit the land of Plath). We further hope that the King's response will be in the same cypher and my trusted man will be charged with seeing that it reaches my hands and no others--though I expect the smell of perfume will accompany the letter when delivered.

Our plan is to secure the Shaman's house deep in the Plath forest and have a disguised group of five men arrive there at the appointed time. The rest of my men will be following this small retinue from the Northern border as the Trolls will surely strike along the road to the Shaman's house or wait until the "King" is settled and receiving his treatment at the Shaman's abode.

We hope these plans meet with the King's blessing,

Your loyal servant, Crichton, Earl of Plath

I guess that is why quite a few bitcoin developers have tipped their hat towards MONERO given what MONERO has accomplish in its code base... because it is  "a joke piece of code."

You are rewriting history. Bytecoin brought ring signatures and the codebase to play around with.

Wow, that's like saying if a company revamped an IBM BIOS that the developers praising the new BIOS are actually praising IBM. They're praising the iteration not the history. It's the equivalent of an ugly man whose sons gets his mom's looks, when people go "My God, what a handsome Boy!" They aren't complimenting the father.

Art K9 1610

Caravaggio's David with the head of Goliath

In black, Carivaggio's head shines
half-lit, a lantern which drips
into the hidden pool of mortal sin.
Our youth (wiser?) must wonder if
the hand that seeks this absolution
reveals a truth in the gaped jaw,
lips swelled, each tooth potted, a rotting tomb.
while one eye throbs a growling scowl
that stares forward in puffed intensity,
the other sags, a testicle
sullen within its given progeny
to let genius be its gospel.
For him the road to heaven wasn't straight,
but paths returning violent states.

For me the power of art is in what it inspires and reveals. The context of this piece is that it was created for Cardinal Borghese as a gift for pardoning Caravaggio of murder. The sword in David's hand carries an abbreviated inscription H-AS OS; this has been interpreted as an abbreviation of the Latin phrase Humilitas occidit superbiam ("humility kills pride"). While there is the possibility that David was one of Caravaggio's former lovers/models/assistants, there is also the possibility of David being a representation of Caravaggio's still innocent youth (the sonnet included was written in this mode after it was noticed that the black background allows for Goliath/Caravaggio to be the holder of the sword). The story turns even grimmer, because on his way to deliver the work to Cardinal Borghese, Caravaggio was detained from his ship and imprisoned  by a law officer who either confused Caravaggio for a wanted criminal or hadn't been aware of Caravaggio's imminent pardon. Caravaggio was eventually released, and on foot, tried to catch up with his ship. Tragically, he broke out in a fever and died before he could reach his ship--though the last details of his life vary and it could have as easily been lead poisoning or murder.

(I know its sponsor and not spouncer... my bad :X)

It's funny that her last episode was sponsored by dash, but mentions Monero as her choice for untraceable transactions.  Tongue

The King has agreed that the worthless trolls living in Plath are fit for destruction, but the masterplan needs of course to be devised. Also there might be good folks as well and it is important to spare them as much as possible.

A young Captain of mine has special knowledge of Trolls and tells me they are like rats in that are they drawn out by any hint of weakness and find their bravery in numbers.  Our plan is to draw them out in the open by using their predisposition against them. This plan has the benefit of bringing the trolls (and their dubious allies) to us and avoiding the loss of innocent civilians who still must think it odd to have armed men roaming their country who are not bent on raiding and destruction--it seems they are looking for any excuse to have their suspicions confirmed by hostile action (the trolls have been baiting us to this end as well).

We will send word on how well our mission fared in three days time and update you to any changes in the meantime.

Your loyal servant,

Crichton, Earl of Plath

YM, my county looks unsustainable in its present condition; mushrooms, amber and orange suits do not appear to be in demand and foie makes up a miniscule portion of my resources, meanwhile soldiers and workers need paid. Please send word that vegetables and meat and can will make their way through the county within the next year or my county will most likely have to be abandoned within the next two years. I'm already forced to sell some of the PRE generated and 20% of my workers in preparation for next year. Sad

I didn't realize square was an option. I just saw circle or boobs on the last page, and I preferred single circle to googly eyes. I think square would be good. Why not diamond? Parallelogram? Rhombus? Dodecahedron???

Or no background?

The symbol seems right, so why pin yourself to a background when people will naturally want to create their own backgrounds for whatever project they are working on?

Must confess I tend to see the most adaptable plan or action as the best.

B. In addition, a Black Suit for assassins, thieves, pirates, rogues, etc. is introduced. Black Suits may be Cursed upon creation if the reason is explained and may become Cursed later as well. Do not even buy a black suit if your intentions are 100% on the right side.

YM, I humbly ask for permission to buy the first black suit and to have it cursed--cursed twice if possible, once by God and second by the widows I plan on leaving in the wake of my vengeance.

There is a land that is dark and riddled with the ashen promises of charlatans. In this land, mad men and thieves are bent by the will of a false profit who gets them to speak ill towards those willing to stand up to the lies and corruption that pervade their borders. It is my duty to take my sword Vengeance into this land and sow the seed of misery to all who prop up their king and deify him as having wisdom equal to the prophet Satoshi and sorcery on par with the House of Monero. This boy-king has brought war to our friends to the south and has stolen their flag and called it his own, and while most of them still survive, the ghosts of their fallen comrades cry out for retribution. Please grant me my wish, so I can walk in the shadows of this forsaken place and do what my sword's demands in namesake and deed.

Your honored servant,

Crichton, Earl of Plath, wielder of Vengeance
