2621  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Block size targeting algo based on average propagation times for blocks? on: April 28, 2013, 11:07:33 PM
The propagation time is VERY fast, so I can't see how you can reliably calculate the propagation time.

that is the question can it be reliably calculated. I hope someone smarter than me knows the answer to this.

oh also ideally we would have larger blocks at some point in the future, would 10mb blocks still be really fast?
The problem is that variance of each computer's internal clock is greater than, or equal to the time it takes to transmit one block. Another problem is for malicious attackers to set up fake nodes (on compromised systems or cloud hosting services), to skew the network propagation time in their favor.
2622  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Do these things work? on: April 28, 2013, 11:02:45 PM
Assuming that your virus has full access to other processes, I don't see how this would help. The virus can always
  • scan for the key in memory
  • hijack the input after it's decrypted (hooking the API that the program uses to receive input)
  • disable "keyscrambler" entirely

it definitely makes your computer more secure, but it's only because no one will bother writing a bypass.

2624  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Help with confirmations. on: April 28, 2013, 10:37:33 PM
if you pay sufficient fees, the transaction will still get confirmed. alternately, if you have a local wallet, you can use coin control to choose which inputs to spend from, which alleviates this problem.
>blockchain.info
yep, you're screwed.

2626  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 6750s cannot get above 100. on: April 28, 2013, 10:30:23 PM
It's not enough to just uninstall the old drivers.  You need to do a clean wipe or even reinstall of windows if you're not sure how to get the 2.5 SDK in there.
using catalyst install manager to uninstall all drivers works fine for me.
2627  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Create wallet using blockchain api (PHP) on: April 28, 2013, 08:58:24 PM
doesn't blockchain.info already provide an online wallet?
2628  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: OpenSell/bn.h on: April 28, 2013, 08:57:54 PM
install openssl-1.0.1d or e, then make sure the include dir is in the build script.
For windows build you see details here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=149479.0

that only build the daemon, not the qt

ezbuild: use gitian
2629  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How does the initial sync is done? on: April 28, 2013, 05:59:25 PM
Thanks for the info. But it is still not clear to me. When I started with a genesis block and how does the system know there is no other existing bloackchain in the network that it needs to sync?
it asks for other peers for blocks
2630  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Blocksize Problem Video on: April 28, 2013, 05:47:20 PM
^ If bitcoin ever becomes a major global currency, then there will be 10,000X as many transactions being created as SD is creating now. SD is providing stress-testing for the network, and showing that unless the block size limit is lifted, there will be a problem.
it's not a stress test, it's a DDOS attack. stress tests are temporary and done with permission. satoshi dice transaction spam last forever on the network (uneconomical satoshi outputs). bitcoin was never meant to be a micro transaction currency, stop pulling numbers out of your ass.
2631  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Blocksize Problem Video on: April 28, 2013, 05:24:25 PM
THERE IS NO BLOCKSIZE PROBLEM.

the only reason free transactions are taking forever to confirm is because satoshi dice (and other on-the-chain gambling services) are spamming the blockchain with useless transactions.

2633  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Tx fee applied when not expected on: April 28, 2013, 04:50:12 PM
did it ask you to pay a fee? or was it automatically included due to settings?

it means he's good at trolling
2635  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: HD58xx Mh/s output and power consumption on: April 28, 2013, 03:43:23 PM
for BTC: (over 350 MH/s)
--gpu-memclock 300 --gpu-engine 950

for LTC: (over 350 kh/s)
--scrypt --thread-concurrency 7200 --gpu-memclock 1250 --gpu-engine 930

these are obviously overclocked, but they are stable for me without any voltage modifications. your mileage may vary.
2636  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What version of Linux? on: April 28, 2013, 01:38:51 AM
why not use vmware?

"Difficulty is not gonna skyrocket anytime soon"
"Batch 2 will ship out in a super fast way from mid to end April"

We have been trolled hard.

And they disappeared too...?
if they shipped next week, they would still technically keep their promise (assuming they skip the chinese holiday)

2639  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: mining pools selling their mining rights? on: April 27, 2013, 10:22:58 PM
there is a low barrier to entry for miners, and it's very easy for unionized miners to strike break anonymously.
2640  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Best way to get real $$ for Bitcoins? on: April 27, 2013, 08:12:54 PM
Anyone else?  How can I pull CDN $$ out of Mtgox without being nickel and dimed to death with fees?
the only way that is free is with local transactions
