2643  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Rig Crashing and Won't Restart on: June 17, 2012, 10:17:13 AM
I've assembled my first rig, it's a no brand motherboard with 4 video cards (3x 5970 + 1 5870).

Running it with BAMT it's yielding about 2.2GHps as of now, still pending some overclock tuning.

My problem is every couple of hours the rig stops working and won't restart. It seems from my limited knowledge perspective that some of the cards are locking and keeping the whole machine from booting up.

So usually I will remove each card at a time until the machine successfully boots.

How can I "unlock" a video card? And better how can I prevent these locks?

are you sure it's not the power supply?  that's what it sounds like to me

2645  Economy / Auctions / Re: Three half-defective 5970s (starting at 30 BTC) on: June 17, 2012, 10:08:10 AM
(Moving my auction thread from https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=87506.0 to here...)

I am auctioning a set of 3 x HD 5970 which are half defective and out of warranty!

One mines fine for a few hours, then hangs.
One fails to initialize during POST (it is not seen by lspci), other times a reboot fixes it.
One causes kernel hangs as soon as Xorg starts.

Auction started at 30 BTC for the lot (bid by zvs from this thread.) I pay for shipping, and will ship anywhere in the US.
Auction ends Sunday, June 17, some time in the evening - pacific time.

what are you talking about?  i never offered 50

some admin can even verify that post was never edited

but why lie about that?  so i don't even want to offer 30 now, even though i'd get double that on ebay
2646  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin-qt not catching up to the blockchain on: June 17, 2012, 01:37:43 AM
Hello,

I've had my bitcoin client running for 2 days now and it is still not caught up.  Was on 5.x, upgraded to 6.2 today.  I have plenty of connections, that is not the problem.

The files blk0001.dat and blkindex.dat in my btc folder are staying the same size and bitcoin-qt is showing that I have downloaded 182553 blocks.  It's also saying last downloaded block was 6 days ago.  Yesterday it said 5 days ago.  As of right now, the latest block is 183572.  It only took 2 hours to load the blocks when I first started bitcoin-qt 8 months ago, so 48 hours makes me think something is wrong.

Using W7 64 bit, not a firewall or port issue.

I'd really like to figure this out as I should have been receiving bitcoins since 6 days ago.  Got nothing in my wallet since it won't catch up.

The debug log keeps showing these 2 errors in succession, I edited out the hashes a little bit since I'm not sure if publicly displaying that can compromise my anonymity or security.

ERROR: FetchInputs() : dxxxxxxxe4 mempool Tx prev not found f3xxxxxx44
ERROR: CTxMemPool::accept() : FetchInputs failed dxxxxxxx4

I'd appreciate the help, can't post in the help section since I don't have enough posts
Mine did this as well, even though I reset the block chain twice.

I was able to complete the blockchain after downloading the snapshot.

(on ubuntu 12.04)

oh, and the block sizes are much larger now, esp thx to that satoshi dice crap.
2647  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: What's wrong with this picture? on: June 16, 2012, 06:22:47 PM
They haven't needed to ... yet ... due to the fees they charge.

I actually meant that when Tx fees make up the lion's share of miner earnings, DeepBit will want to get real profits from Tx fees.
in addition to the fees they charge

a bit like trying to cash out poker earnings as a US player

Ah you went through that "fun" too huh.  Full Tilt Poker still has $5K of mine I likely will never see.   I think $5K should buy me 1 free punch with no criminal/civil penalties if I ever run into anyone from Full Tilt Poker.
yeah, haha.

for partypoker, too.  funds were locked in neteller for, what, 9 months?  it's been a while now so i don't remember exactly.

though I didn't play on full tilt, as I always felt it was rigged..  only site I used was pokerstars.

it is painful to withdraw from cake poker nowadays, although I guess someone out there is happy they're getting like a 5-10% cut just for withdrawing your money for you

gg us government

I'm willing to sell one of my rigs at cost. Most have 3x 5970's. I have some with 5870's. Also a couple have nice cpu's with with ssd drives. Prices range from 1,400-1,800. Let me know if you want any pics.

i'd only pay ~$900 for 3 5970's.  would have to be a damn nice psu, i  guess.
2653  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: June 14, 2012, 05:06:27 PM
When you make all-encompassing statements like "your seriously going to sit here and try and say that GPU mining is more profitable than FPGA," then I'll take it literally.  If you preface your statement with "Unless your electricity is free, blah blah blah," then I probably wouldn't bug you.

Also, have you done a recent analysis on how long it takes for an FPGA to out-profit a GPU setup at different electric rates?  I doubt it is just at $0.00/kwh where it would make more sense to buy GPU's instead of FPGA's...

A quick analysis using the following figure on bitcoinx.com using default values and the following:

GPU: 7970
Watts: 208 624/3 [wall draw / 3 for a 3 card system]
$570 ((470 * 3)+300)/3 [((card cost * 3) + base cost of a rig) / 3]

FPGA: USB-FPGA Module 1.15y
Watts: 38
$950

$/kw/h - cost per kw/h
GPU - days to pay off
FPGA - days to pay off

$/kw/h   GPU   FPGA
 $-         398   447
 $0.01    414   449
 $0.02    430   451
 $0.03    448   453
 $0.04    467   456
 $0.05    489   458
 $0.06    512   460
...
 $0.12    732   473

The number appears to be between 3 and 4 cents.  These are all meaningless though, since difficulty / price will not stay where it is, but does give an indication as to currently where that sweet spot lies.

but also totally ignores equipment depreciation

(or appreciation, in the case of some ppl buying 5830's)
2654  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: ASIC = The end of decentralized mining on: June 13, 2012, 11:39:40 PM
LMAO Grin watching Cablepair guy fight and cling for the last few days of his business is so entertaining. HAHA!

Your FPGA days are over son !

Your such a clown you have no idea what your talking about

ASICS arent even out yet.

no one can dispute FPGA is #1 right now, the debate is what will happen when ASICS DO come out.

Myself and the other FPGA manufacturers are enjoying sales in the many tens of thousands, you really need to get a clue your just making yourself look foolish at this point.
FPGA #1 for what?

not for making profit

if my power costs were over 10-11c, i wouldnt be mining

and my one 5830  i have left is still worth the same as it was 16 months ago

cards

what stops power supply from freezing your system

although if you can get something going, like furmark or w/e, it should be fine.  games are diff i'd assume, since sometimes the card would be strained and other times it wouldnt
2659  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: New 7970 water cooled rig problem (Video) on: June 13, 2012, 10:19:17 PM
use empty pci slot, draw power from that, stabilize cards

it is same deal with yochdog thing

lessens power fluctuations
2660  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much of a temperature gradient is required? on: June 13, 2012, 10:01:12 PM
my industrial fan that's blasting air in from the window consumes 150 watts.  all other area on the bottom of the window is sealed.  top is open about 3 inches,  and passed the paper test

ambient temperature in that room easily hits 95o during the day.   if you wanted to count heat index, it'd be over 100

each computer has its own table top fan which draw about 40 or 50 watts each (and open case)
