2641  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 09, 2022, 12:53:55 AM
Can you try to restore your wallet again make sure it was a legacy wallet and then look for xPub you can find it on Wallet>Information on the top left menu?
As I already said in one of my previous posts, it's not possible to create a legacy wallet using a seed phrase generated by electrum for a segwit wallet.
Look at the following image. Once I entered the seed phrase, electrum detected the seed type and it's not possible to change that. Charles-Tim explained how the seed type is determined.

If you zoom out when looking at bitcoin price chart, you will see that you are completely wrong.
You shouldn't expect bitcoin price to rise every day.
I guess you bought bitcoin when there was FOMO in the market and now you are complaining about the price.

The following topic may be helpful to you. Ratimov has posted a table comparing bitcoin price change with some other assets in the past years.

I agree with bitmover, mixing your passphrases will make you safe
By passphrase, you mean seed phrase. Right? Note that seed phrase is different from passphrase.
Seed phrase is a series of words (usually 12 words).
Passphrase is a combination of words or letters added to your seed phrase for more security.

but I am much worried about forcing people to open their bitcoin wallet.
Add a passphrase to your seed phrase.
No one can know there's a passphrase added to your seed phrase. Even if someone forces you to open your wallet, you can use your seed phrase without the passphrase to generate completely different addresses.
As suggested by pooya87, you can even send a little amount of bitcoin to the wallet created without the passphrase.
2644  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 08, 2022, 05:27:04 PM
But instead of restoring same wallet I somehow created new one (legacy one) using this seed not understanding that it's not the same wallet? So I took one of the address and transferred btc to it.
Any electrum's seed phrase always generates same addresses. It's not possible that you import the same seed phrase and electrum generates different addresses.
Maybe, you created a new wallet instead of importing that seed phrase when you were trying to test how electrum works.

The problem with Electrum (it's probably not a problem but consequence of how seed recovering work) is that when you use anything that is accepted as seed it always creates "some" wallet. So it's easy to "restore" different wallet by mistake especially when it has no transactions on it yet.
It's not that anything is accepted as a seed phrase.
You can test this yourself. Change a word. You will see that the seed phrase becomes invalid and electrum won't allow you to generate a wallet.
Evevn if you import a BIP39 seed phrase and change a word, you will see a warning saying the checksum is failed.

Any ideas? the puzzling thing here is that seed seems like segwit but receiving address is legacy.
As said, you are using a wrong seed phrase.
Are you sure that you have never used any wallet other than electrum?

You didn't answer the question asked by o_e_l_e_o.
Do you remeber seeing any balance in your wallet?

It will be easier to write down your private keys in a book if you are living under your roof alone,
There's a big probability that you make a mistake when writing a private key. Instead, create an HD wallet and write the seed phrase. A seed phrase includes meaningful words and it's unlikely that you write them wrongly. In this way, you will have numerous private keys and addresses which can you help you to protect your privacy as well.
The way you generate the private key/seed phrase is also very important. You should always use a safe tool. It's recommended to use an open-source tool on an air-gapped device.

Also note that even if you live alone and no one visit your house, there may be still the risk of fire and water. Keep multiple copies of your seed phrase/your private keys in different secure places.
2646  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 07, 2022, 11:16:42 PM
That wallet is a legacy wallet so you should choose P2PKH when you are restoring your seed phrase.
You can't choose the type of addresses when you enter a seed phrase that has been generated by electrum.
Once you enter a seed phrase that has been generated by electrum, it automatically detects the type of addresses and there is no way to change that. It doesn't ask you the type of addresses at all.
2647  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 07, 2022, 09:28:01 PM
So what you are saying is that this address does not belong to electrum wallet at all?
The seed phrase you have can't generate the address starting with 1.
Either the address in question doesn't belong to your wallet or the seed phrase you are using is for a different wallet.

When I checked address with adress checker it says it is valid address and it is type of BASE58 (P2PKH)
Yes, the address is valid. But as said, it can't be generated by your seed phrase if it's segwit-type.

Do you still have access to the device you created the wallet on? The wallet file may be still there.
2648  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 07, 2022, 09:02:44 PM
When I enter seed it displays it is of type segwit. I also tried to restore it with BIP39 seed as suggested which says checksum failed but it still allows to proceed. I tried all 3 options Legacy, p2sh-segiwt and native segwit. Left derivation path default.
Since you have created the wallet using electrum, your seed phrase can't be BIP39. Electrum use its own algorithm for creating a seed phrase.
Also, the transaction you shared in OP doesn't include any segwit address. So, the seed phrase you need for accessing the fund can't be segwit-type. (Segwit addresses start with bc1)

Should I try to install electrum app released around the time I created the original wallet? Can that make any difference?
This won't change anything.
2649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How PancakeSwap detect restricted countries? on: March 07, 2022, 01:17:36 PM
Why PancakeSwap don't show the user coins and tokens?
Are you sure that you have connected the correct wallet to Pancakeswap? You may have connected a different wallet.
Note that pancakeswap only shows the tokens that are on binance smart chain. If you have an ERC20 or any other token which is not BEP20, it can't be traded on Pancakeswap at all.
2650  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Service Discussion (Altcoins) / Re: How PancakeSwap detect restricted countries? on: March 07, 2022, 12:20:14 PM
A user from a restricted country, can't use the PancakeSwap with VPN too. The PancakeSwap don't show the wallet supply. Any idea?
I think you have a different problem with PancakeSwap, because they haven't blocked any IP address yet. They will block IP addresses from 10 countries on March, 09. Visit the link below for more information.

2651  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 07, 2022, 09:50:39 AM
Yes it is case insensitive.
It matters whether you enter the words in capital letters or lower-case letters only if you have checked "BIP39 seed" option.
If a seed phrase has been generated by electrum (which seems to be the case here), it doesn't matter whether you enter the words in capital letters or lower-case letters.
2652  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 06, 2022, 09:36:48 PM
I can see multiple receiving addresses there and some "change" adresses... all showing Balance 0 and tx 0
This means that the seed phrase you imported into electrum isn't for the wallet you sent bitcoin to 4 years ago.

I don't know, how do I find out?
15TRBjwU1T........ received 0.02952818 BTC which was worth around 570 dollars at that time.
1P767QD3qz....... received 0.58188470 BTC which was worth around 11,250 dollars at that time.

Which one is yours?

Edit:
Your address is probably 15TRBjwU1T.......... The other one should belong to Coinbase.
2653  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: cannot restore wallet from seed on: March 06, 2022, 09:12:51 PM
Is your wallet synced?
The circle located at bottom right corner of the window should be green. Otherwise your wallet is not synced.

1. how can I confirm that restored wallet is the correct one that received transaction on the link above?
Go to "Addresses" tab. Do you see the address you used for receiving bitcoin 4 years ago there?
(If addresses tab isn't available, click on "View" at top of the window and select "Show addresses".

2. is the seed case sensitive?
No.

3. if I get my wallet restored correctly, how do I verify that someone hasn't got hold of my wallet and didn't transfer bitcoin out of my wallet?
In that case, you should see an outgoing transaction in "history" tab.

The transaction you shared includes two outputs.
Which of addresses is yours? 15TRBjwU1T........ or 1P767QD3qz.........?

If your address is 15TRBjwU1T........, there is no outgoing transaction made from that and the fund is still there.
If your address is 1P767QD3qz........, the fund has been spent in another transaction.
2654  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Bitcoin purchase wasn't received. on: March 06, 2022, 02:01:14 AM
There is only 364523 blocks connected at the moment, though the address was listen in the address book.
So your wallet isn't synced and that's why you don't see the transaction in question.

If you are in hurry or you don't want to download the blockchain (which is nearly 400 gigabytes of data), you can export your private key and import it into a spv wallet like electrum.
In SPV wallets, you don't have to download the blockchain.

Warning:
SPV wallets don't give you the privacy wallets like bitcoin core and Armory give you.
In SPV wallets, you connect to a server which can link your addresses with your IP.

Edit:
i think armory uses the same file for the block?
Correct.
Armory use the data downloaded by bitcoin core.
2655  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Bitcoin purchase wasn't received. on: March 06, 2022, 01:32:32 AM
Are you sure that Armory is fully synced? What's the number of blocks it's showing at bottom right corner of the window? It should be around 726,000 blocks.
If the wallet is fully synced, one possibility is that you have used a wrong address. Are you sure that 1EkuNL..........belongs to your wallet? To see addresses generated by Armory, click on "Addresses" at top of the window and select "View address book". Please check all the characters to see if it matches with an address generated by Armory.
2656  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Bitcoin purchase wasn't recieved. on: March 06, 2022, 12:33:38 AM
First of all note that it doesn't matter if Armory wasn't online when receiving bitcoin.

Enter the address you used for receiving bitcoin on a block explorer like blockchair to see the balance and the transaction history of the address.
Do you see the transaction receiving 50 dollars worth of bitcoin there?
If no, you haven't received any bitcoin.
If yes and Armory is fully synced, you should see the receiving transaction and the balance.
2657  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Google Authenticator Backup Key Question? on: March 05, 2022, 09:19:45 PM
Wait.  You can only take a picture of the QR code as a backup?
Yes.
Note that if you want to have a backup, as I already said, the best thing you can do is to keep the secret key Coinbase gives you in a safe place.
The "Export accounts" feature on Google Authenticator has a different purpose. But if you don't have access to your secret key anymore, I think that's the only thing you can do to have a backup.

There isn't like a long key you need to write down like 68fdsalkjfksajf99sfda977098ambibasd to restore it?
As far as I know, No.

And you cannot take a photo of it with your phone.  You need to use another device to take photo of the QR code?  So if your other device is an old phone and it has malware, then you compromise yourself then?  How is that exactly safe?
Yes, it can be compromised if that device is not safe.

Edit:
I just remembered you asked exactly the same question last year and I answered you in that thread too.
May I ask you why you don't read the replies instead of asking the same questions again and again?
2658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Paying with Bitcoin where there's rush on: March 05, 2022, 08:46:22 PM
The only thing that comes to my mind is to accept unconfirmed transactions with disabled RBF. ......
This depends on your risk management.
Even if you only accept fiat, there's always the possibility that someone give you fake cash or pick up the good and run away from your shop.
I don't think accepting non-RBF unconfirmed transactions is much risky if there isn't a big amount of money involved.
2659  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Coinbase Google Authenticator Backup Key Question? on: March 05, 2022, 08:25:54 PM
I had to scan the QR code on coinbase site to the google authenticator app on my iphone and it scanned.  But where is the backup key that I need to write down if something happens to my phone?
The best thing you can do is to keep the secret key coinbase gives you in a safe place. It will help you to recover the 2FA at any time.

You can also use the "Exports accounts" feature as a backup.
To do so, click on "3-dots: button at top right of the window. Select "Transfer accounts" and then "Export accounts".
Select any account you want to backup and tap on "Next".
After that, you will see QR code allowing you to import your account into another device in future.
Just note that, due to security reason, your phone won't allow you to take a screenshot. Take a photo from the QR code using a camera and keep it in a safe place.

Could I install google authenticator on two devices at the same time?
Yes.

USDT is not as safe as you think.

The first problem is that there is no proof that all tokens are really backed by fiat.
The second problem is that your tokens can be frozen even on your own wallet. It's possible that the government ask the company to freeze your tokens.
I recommend you to read the topic created by mk4.
