26921  Economy / Speculation / Re: The future of Bitcoin on: March 13, 2016, 02:13:53 PM
is it possible bitcoin used without internet? such as making physical version. of course many people will be interested in bitcoin. and think that bitcoin is real money right
It kinda has "bit" in the name. The keys are a bit long to transfer over the phone.
26922  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rare address hall of fame on: March 13, 2016, 09:42:32 AM
My GPU is pretty neat.. How do u check my MKeys/s ?
Maybe mine is faster and i will give it a try?

Edit : so you mean you get 15Mkeys/s ? :/
Am merely getting 1.15 Mkeys/s and with using
Sounds like you using vanitygen on a fast CPU, and not oclvanitygen on a fast GPU. I recently got it working thanks to this topic: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22]. My cheap 1.5 years old i3 laptop runs (up to) 9 Mkeys on GPU now.
26923  Economy / Speculation / Re: Why is the price dropping? on: March 12, 2016, 09:18:36 PM
An increase leads to more people buying, a decrease leads to more people selling. So whatever happens, it gives itself positive feedback to accelerate the process.
Speculation and normal variation. Nobody knows what the future will bring, as with any investment/gamble/buy.
26924  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: March 12, 2016, 06:53:32 PM
thereum, on the other hand is about to spew another 20 million coins into the supply over the next 12 months, shrinking your holding as a percentage of the coin supply by 28%.
I wonder how many ethereum-buyers know this. It's the first time I read about it now, does this mean the creators will dump 200 million usd worth of ethereum? That does support the pre-mine-scam-theories out there.
26925  Other / Archival / Re: Updated Overview of Bitcointalk Signature-Ad Campaigns on: March 11, 2016, 01:43:27 PM
I'd just love it if BTC price went back down to $250 so that we could have the sig rates and account market back
I assume the payout in dollars stays about the same when bitcoin doubles, right? So why would a cheaper bitcoin be better for us users in a campaign? Yes you get more bitcoins, but no you can't buy more with it. So why does it matter?
26926  Economy / Services / Re: [FULL] Rollin.io Signature & Avatar Campaign on: March 11, 2016, 12:58:52 PM
I hate to ask it again, but I'll do it anyway since I did find the best address ever: can I change my Bitcoin Address for this campaign to 1RoLLiNpNdPDKkgyngdSg5QHBqRqTUrFY ? I'll convince you my account has not been compromised in the same way as I did last time Smiley
26927  Economy / Services / Re: [CLOSING] Rollin.io Twitter Campaign - Earn up to 0.18785 BTC per month! on: March 11, 2016, 10:14:31 AM
Can I keep the signature after the campaign, and add my own rolllin referral link to it?
Mate... If I understood correctly, you misunderstood, your signature campaign with this twitter campaign. I guess rollin signature campaign will live long as they have very limited post count for monthly basis....
Thank you, you are absolutely right!
I was wondering why it took me 4 days to see the message about closing. I clicked wrong searching for the topic on Google and obviously didn't read the complete title.

Either way, happy to hear the good news!

26929  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: March 10, 2016, 06:50:35 PM
you needed root to load the nvidia_uvm kernel module. with the nvidia-modprobe package installed, you can load the kernel module as user too or rather, it gets auto loaded.
I skipped this part of your previous comment since I got it working, but it sounds like an improvement.
When I google it, it simply says to `apt-get install nvidia-modprobe`, but it doesn't exist on my system. I now know it's something I should still fix, but for now I'm happy I can use it Cheesy
26930  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanitygen: Vanity bitcoin address generator/miner [v0.22] on: March 10, 2016, 03:14:32 PM
try to run the miner with sudo, as with a incorrect OpenCL setup, you'll need root to load the nvidia_uvm kernel module. Once loaded you dont need sudo again. Your missing that module, hence the failure.
This fixed it! Running once as root, compiling kernel, and now it runs as user too.
From 200-400 kkeys/s (depending on system load) to up to over 7.5 Mkeys/s! Thank you so much, that's 25 times faster on average!

Code:
Difficulty: 264104224
Compiling kernel, can take minutes...done!
Pattern: 1test
Address: 1testvSQ7NjT2bjG3Ywv8GkCNCCQmUxcz
Privkey: 5HrhdHG7LzJG1k1teTKbGRhNqZzU9LxMsYTUxoNoTmUb7frNmDB

Now the search continues Smiley It's running at 79 degrees C now, and slowly going up, After cleaning it a bit it runs at 62 degrees C now.

Edit: on performance: the GeForce 840M reaches just over 9 Mkeys/s if I close my browsers to reduce CPU (or video?) load.
26931  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Rare address hall of fame on: March 10, 2016, 02:53:12 PM
I just found 1LimeLightHA2NqDu5hxu1RN9c78qiL97V (blockchain).
Update: right after depositing 100 mBTC to it, I messed up Sad Being tired doesn't help....
I accidentally pasted the private key instead of the public key into Google and blockchain.info search field. Too bad, I liked how rare this address is, now I can't use it anymore.

The BTC 0.1 hasn't gone too far. https://blockchain.info/address/1317ST8CrnHcycS46F7wFpEFRzhVSba1jG Is that your wallet?

*edit* ouch - 2.3 years to reach 50% for 1LimeLight - feel for you pal.
Yes, I did withdraw by myself to be sure.
On my CPU it takes 210 years for 50%, it was a lucky hit.

Edit: Nvidia joined the party! Now it's only 8 years for 50% Tongue But I'll find another nice one, dictionary attack with 25000 words works fine so far, and about 25 times faster from now on.

26933  Economy / Services / Re: Get paid in Bitcoin for simple data entry (solving captchas). on: March 10, 2016, 01:02:22 AM
The instructions document and .exe application are on Google Drive now (which prescans for viruses) so there is nothing to worry about when downloading them.
Call me paranoid, but wouldn't a scammer say the same?
Any application you build yourself can do anything you like without containing any known virusses.
26934  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to fight a domain squatter? on: March 10, 2016, 12:38:39 AM
The best way to fight this, is not to buy it. Up to you to pick a different name, or a different top level domain.
26935  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities on: March 08, 2016, 02:08:30 PM
Try to name one thing that isn't being used for illegal activities..... I think it's really hard to think of something, as almost everything can be used illegally.
Guns, knifes, hammer, saws, tape, bricks, cars, etc. etc. are all used for illegal activities on a massive scale. That doesn't mean that hurts them in the long run, it just means a larger demand than if it would only be used for legal activities.

To compare: Every British bank note is contaminated by cocaine within weeks of entering circulation

not skipping was correct. You'r binary is compiled and ready to go. Now we need to fix the last issue:
Thanks Smiley Smiley

is the package nvidia-modprobe installed? if not, install it.
Seems like it:
Code:

# Do not edit this file manually

I am running the Nvidia-driver:

Judging by this I would say my X-server knows the card:

And this is what I have installed:

check if this file exists:
Code:
$ ls -al /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnvidia-opencl.so.1

does this exist too?
Code:
$ ls -al /etc/OpenCL/vendors/nvidia.icd

if not:
Code:
$ sudo mkdir -p /etc/OpenCL/vendors
$ sudo tee /etc/OpenCL/vendors/nvidia.icd <<< 'libnvidia-opencl.so.1'
I think this is all okay:
Code:
Laptop ~ # ls -al /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnvidia-opencl.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 Nov 16 20:51 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libnvidia-opencl.so.1 -> libnvidia-opencl.so.352.63

Laptop ~ # cat /etc/OpenCL/vendors/nvidia.icd
libnvidia-opencl.so.1
