2701  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SBF get prosecuted, Elon got away from laws, why double standard? on: January 03, 2023, 10:25:49 PM
That’s quite shocking, despite all the charges against him, he is immune to laws, much like Bill Gates, even Melinda Gates has to divorce him for what he did but laws won’t judge him for his action.
Now you lost me. What does Bill Gates have to do with this? To my knowledge Bill Gates hasn't been charged with anything jail worthy and divorce with Melinda happened because their marriage wasn't healthy. Which is a common cause for divorces.

And since it's Bill Gates is a dream target for conspiracies i feel i need specifically to ask links for reliable sources. If they are not available, let's please keep this thread on subject.
2702  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cashless Gambling, your thought? on: January 03, 2023, 09:56:37 PM
Perhaps this is mostly applicable to those areas who are already developed and have great economy. Implementing cashless policy will be very difficult to do in third world and developing countries because they lack the resources to do so, and most of the citizens don't have the ability to participate in such. Hence cashless policy in gambling in struggling areas could be impossible as of now because they have other things to prioritize.

But good for those developed ones that they are already progressing into this because of their capability and resources. It has many pros and cons that has to be weighed before making a final decision, and I hope the people are all well-aware of all the possible sides if ever it will be fully implemented in your area. Because as we know, not everyone is as techy and as well-off as others. In addition, not everyone is fond and is in favor of KYC verification process.
Actually if they want to do any sort of banking with developed countries they would need to comply so they won't get isolated. Not necessarily to the point of cashless but heavy KYC and trail of funds is going to be mandatory. Every country has some version of this financial action task force, even most less developed and things aren't going back to where they were or stay same.

2703  Economy / Economics / Re: The Taste of an Economic Downturn on: January 03, 2023, 09:20:08 PM
I wonder how ordinary people around the world felt the worsening economic situation in their respective countries. I know that although many are very much aware of the soaring inflation, nothing has changed much in their day to day lives. I can observe that in some families. They seem oblivious of how the prices of basic goods and services are rising in double digits.

From my household, however, we can literally taste the economic downturn. It feels odd and sad that we have to sacrifice taste in order to somehow cushion the impact of the economic problems my country is facing. Onion here is already hitting $12.57 a kilo. Depending on the size, that's about $0.63 apiece. Cooking an ordinary dish for a small family requires a bulb or two. During this holiday season especially, we normally need tens of onions. That's not affordable anymore. So we had to greatly reduce the use of onions and try not to care about how the dish would turn out. On ordinary days, onions are even removed from the ingredients.

I had to share this here because it feels like the economic situation has already affected the most basic need of everybody. It seems insignificant because it's only a spice, but I thought that if the economic situation is already affecting everybody's taste buds, it could mean things are getting pretty serious.

I wonder, especially in other countries, how drastic is the change in your daily life that's brought about by this economic downturn?
I tried to google where onions would be $12 but i guess those prices aren't updated in the net yet.

I had to google reasons for Croatia and Philippines being on the top and got more accurate results. Unsurprisingly it's inflation. (on those countries it seems to be especially bad)
https://www.total-croatia-news.com/lifestyle/62778-croatian-inflation
https://filipinotimes.net/latest-news/2023/01/02/red-onions-prices-in-the-philippines-soar-to-p650-per-kilo/

My life has changed drastically as well. Not only i managed to mess up exiting crypto in time so i had some savngs, i lost rest of that money to electricity bills and food. (Well almost everything)
Food cost in Finland has doubled too. yet we have onions for something like €1.2 a kilo right now. Now i feel i have to appreciate onions more as a luxury item with garlic and oil.
2704  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Bald men discrimination on: January 03, 2023, 05:24:03 PM
It's not okay to mock fat women but somehow it's socially acceptable to make fun of bald men?
Bald men are discriminated against for jobs and are often joked about but it's not like they can control their genetics.  Fat people can actually lose the weight.
I have noticed a lot of men in their teens and 20s are balding these days and no one is standing up for them.
The bad guys in movies and media are almost always bald.
Larry David, is that you? For a moment i thought this was a bit from Curb your enthusiasm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lQCVf7AnXNY

But as a response to OP, i don't remember single one bald bad guy from movies, maybe it's because no one remembers "bad guys", but i can remember ton of good guys and for example Patrick Stewart started balding at the age of 19, and when he plays Picard or professor xavier he is like embodiment of a good person. Baldness also often signals authority.

In where i live, it isn't ok to joke about bald young people, but then again it isn't ok to joke about anything related to physical appearance, yet people keep doing that. Especially teens can be very insensitive and rough toward each other. Only thing you can do is be an example

When i started balding i was first a little ashamed, but after a while i embraced it, and because of it, i got ton of confidence. Way more then those that would laugh to bald people, and because of it, i got way more done too.

Yup, and all the pieces start to click on places when you realize that he doesn't got a real degree in the first place so he avoids hard questions in the interviews
https://twitter.com/capitolhunters/status/1593307541932474368

It just shows that just because someone makes good investments doesn't mean he is the new renaissance man, or even an innovator.
If you have ever listen to a real genius and compare those interviews to elon, it's so obvious how much he is struggling on areas he is bragged to be genius of. And how much he is avoiding the real questions.
2706  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: NFT Speculation on: January 03, 2023, 01:16:58 PM
Could you give a full definition of NFTs?
Naturally i,m not a fan of NFTs and i don't find any meaning to it and how would funds flow into it while it just a common artwork, not just common but can't use them physically as a decoration to our houses and buildings and if at all we have to use it we would likely to print it out. Is this possible to happen?
I think you are missing the point, forget the art for a moment.
Aside the fact it's more then abut jpgs, explaining NFTs makes me feel nostalgic because it's like explaining altcoins to my friends in year 2014. Basically same phrases over and over just because it's a new concept.

"Why would it be worth anything", "Value isn't based on anything", "It's a ridiculous scam", "Probably money laundering", "Why wouldn't i buy stocks instead?", "I'll keep using cash money".

And after a while "If i only had invested back then i would be millionaire". Thing is, these people never invest in the bottom because in the bottom everything is scam for them.
2707  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cashless Gambling, your thought? on: January 02, 2023, 11:52:16 PM
Have you ever thought of a government implementing a Cashless gambling?
-cut-
Well as days for anonymous physical cash are pretty much numbered now, i see it only a matter of time. In finland we now how kyc for lottery and slot machines as a temporary solution. Soon i am guessing cash is irrelevant because it's supposedly these days only used by criminals and people who got something to hide  Roll Eyes

But i completely understand why they are doing this. This is FATF on action and fits their narrative of tracking money as a part of tighter AML laws. This is however just a start.
2708  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Interesting events in 2022 on the crypto market on: January 02, 2023, 11:42:21 PM
Damn. I didn't know that "market impact" is part of the guilt assessment in court. Because its not! And market impact from single event is hard to estimate because there were many other bearish events that were triggered one after another. Such as braking major support lines, braking trend lines etc. Bitcoin was far less oversold and in far worse technical situation when luna collapsed compared to FTX going bust. It would be different if FTX crash first and than luna after months.

But the biggest difference is that Sam stole funds from his users on purpose, while Do-Kwon made a start-up based on innovative technology that failed.
People affected by Do-Kwon knew about risks. All risks were in open source code. We f.ed up investing in something that should not work.
People affected by Sam were scammed, lied and robbed.

Thats the difference. No one should compare it based on market impact. Being rude doesn't mean you are more guilty.
Ok, those cases differ a lot, i admit that, but now your response make it sound like Do-Kwon was innocent.
If Do-Kwon was just an innovator that failed, can you explain why Interpol issued a red notice for him then?

And when Do-Kwon was warned about unsustainable interest rate and collapse but chose not to take perfectly valid critique seriously, making him well aware in my book that ust would crash and burn when conditions were right.
2709  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: NFT Speculation on: January 02, 2023, 11:27:25 PM
NFT as a general is not something that will go up if you ask me. It was a big hype but that's it, as soon as hype died, the whole NFT space died and will not recover. The idea wasn't liked all that much anyway, it was used to make more profits and people bought and sold to make a profit but not because they enjoyed it or liked it or found it logical, they did it purely for money.

Now that there is no money in there, and no hype, how could they profit from it? And if they don't, then why would we want to see it do a lot better? This is why NFT will never recover and grow, not with regulations, and not without it, it is just going to stay as low as it is now.
This is something you can't say for sure. NFT hype crashed with the rest of the market and it would be weird to assume it wouldn't crash with it. And since there's only one real market cycle so far for nfts, we are in uncharted waters. I am thinking that some of the nft projects will come back bigger then ever. Some will obviously die like most of the altcoins. NFTs still have way more activity and volume then 2019 when i started buying them

2710  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: SlowMist: Investigation of North Korean APT’s Large-Scale Phishing Attack on NFT on: January 01, 2023, 10:47:11 PM
Some of you maybe heard about news which were published first on September; Twitter user PhantomXSec tweeted that the North Korean APT group were responsible for crypto and NFT phishing campaigns targeting dozens of ETH and SOL projects. PhantomXsec provided information on 196 phishing domain names that were linked to North Korean hackers after a thorough analysis.

Now I invite you to read a comprehensive analysis of that event - if you are interested in security and want to know how that kind of attack is created, read more on https://slowmist.medium.com/slowmist-our-in-depth-investigation-of-north-korean-apts-large-scale-phishing-attack-on-nft-users-362117600519
You get some perspective how big of a thing NFTs are when a country starts scamming people with it on the state level. And why do i know it's the government and not some individuals ? Because individuals in there don't have an access to internet.

I honestly think that this is just a start. I know i said that in 2019 about nfts, but i really feel the same feeling of underrated
2711  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: According To me Ethereum Looks Weak on: January 01, 2023, 07:48:03 PM
I don't know about the "looks" of Ethereum, but knowing what I know about it's founding, holders, and coins waiting to be dumped onto the market, I wouldn't feel good buying it now.  So many coins are locked up with huge gains in the ETH2 contract, waiting for their opportunity to be withdrawn and dumped, it is going to certainly have a negative effect on the price.  The longer it takes to allow this withdrawal, the more customers will be looking to cash out, not to mention the more ETH they'll have from interest to cash out.  So for me, regardless of how it looks, I wouldn't come near ETH until after the ETH2 coins are dumped onto the market.  Bitcoin seems a much better option, although I can understand sitting on the sidelines until the mtgox coins are dumped as well.

There's another alternative to this, and that is these dumpers refuse to dump their ETH because it's down, and they know just like you . They see same exact thing happening when take rewards get and rather keep waiting to sell after dumpers and aftr price is back up. I mean if they had patience to hold this long, they most likely have patience for another year.
2712  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is playing national lottery smart or waste of time? on: January 01, 2023, 07:03:30 PM

Topic and poll inspired by another thread - question:

Do you play national lottery games (Powerball, EuroMillions, Lotto etc)?

My view on big, often state-owned lotteries is they're designed mainly for 2 reasons: to make a profit and as a social tool that sells dreams of instant life change and massive wealth to the masses to keep them in line.

Most people are not satisfied with their lives and they need some sort of hope for the future to keep going and to prevent themselves from turning into crime, falling into depression etc. However messed-up your life might be, there's still hope that buying a cheap lottery ticket could potentially turn you into a millionaire (or even a billionaire) overnight. That's a powerful tool.

But the reality is, such lotteries usually have way worse odds than any casinos or gambling sites. So, mathematically speaking, you're better off gambling your money there.

Thoughts?
Changes of winning in one of them is astronomical. But differences on the probabilites of different lotteries are also ridiculously high. Numbers just are so high that we stop paying attention how many times no one is getting the main prize. And when you think of one second how many people are playing in your area, or in the world, number on those too turn instantly so high that we can't comprehend those.

They are being played because that brings comfort to some living in poverty, that in one day they could end up being super rich. Which they are not going to be.
2713  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamblers that don't understand basic gambling concepts. on: January 01, 2023, 06:57:47 PM
For some time now I have seen in this section of the forum a not small percentage of gamblers who do not understand basic statistical concepts of mathematics applied to gambling, such as Return to Player or Expected Value. As a result, it is not surprising that every now and then we see someone who thinks he has found a good system to win casino games by applying some variant of the Martingale. This is despite the fact that these are not complicated concepts and the information is easily accessible to everyone, it is not like 30 years ago. I would say that at least 25% of the people who write in this section fall into this category.

Do you have the same perception as me?

I think a lot of whiny threads of people telling how they ended up losing a lot more than they expected would be minimised if people understood these basic concepts. Although knowing the theory doesn't guarantee it 100% because we sometimes get carried away by emotions.

I am sure that some of those who think they understand these concepts but in reality do not will comment on this thread Grin.
Totally, but lot's of people just aren't educated in that area or educated at all, they they prefer some sort of lucky charms, numerology and all kinds of logical fallacies to support their feeling of being in control, opposed to being in the mercy of statistics. All we can do is to explain this over and over no newbs as it's often not their fault of being misguided or misinformed.
2714  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BANKMAN-FRIED PANIC GAMBLES TO REPAY DEBT on: January 01, 2023, 06:42:06 PM
What if he was holding cards while discussing with his friends because I saw someone's feet in front of him.

We also don't know if the photo shows him playing gambling with his friends and making bets as reported or if it is an old photo. The photo doesn't show any money and it doesn't look like there is a table to put the cards on either. And while that's true, I think he's out of his mind because gambling doesn't give you fast money.
Also there's the issue what he was supposedly playing card games online. It would be hard to say the least, to lose $100M allegedly company money to your friends at your house.

Is it my imagination or that in front on his trading setup is a box of disposable paper tissues?  Roll Eyes
A bottle of hand sanitizer (lube?) and a mini fan?
-but-
Could be also box of masks. Had sanitizer makes sense and there's nothing wrong having paper tissues on front of your computer, many people do.
2715  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Memecoin and utility - impossible or next stage of crypto development on: January 01, 2023, 06:36:08 PM
A memecoin is a type of cryptocurrency that is primarily used for online memes and as a form of online tipping or reward. They are typically not intended to serve as a serious investment or store of value, but rather as a way to facilitate fun and creativity within online communities.

One of the main utilities of a memecoin is its ability to facilitate the spread of memes and provide a way for users to show their appreciation for content creators. By allowing users to tip each other with small amounts of memecoins, it can help to encourage the creation and sharing of new and interesting memes.
-cut-
You don't really need to spread the dogecoin as i thing that everyone with an internet seen the doge meme. And i've never encoutered new meme token being a thing used to top people.

What i've seen during somewhere in the top of the ico frenzy cycle, token names being used as an adverisement for a website or other kind of token. I don't think that was very effective as that was a sure thing no make me NOT to even google about it and avoid the name in all cost.
2716  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should your wife or husband know your seed phrase? on: January 01, 2023, 06:27:43 PM
When a man gets married to a woman to become husband and wife, they become one and everyone expects that they can get to share everything with each other. I know of women who have the passwords to their husbands bank cards and they can make withdrawals on his behalf. I will like to ask the Men here if they have shared their seed phrase with their wife's? I will like to ask the women here how they will feel if their husbands refuse telling them their seed phrase?
Married? That's hard because if i didn't have a prenuptial agreement i think i would be legally obligated to share it.

If there was a way to prevent that, these days i would rather leave it into my will. Or to my kids. Because from an experience i had very messy divorce while ago and if my spouse would have known my privatekey i don't know what would have happened.

And even if that account didn't have any BTC left there's always a change for an airdrop later on. That hasn't been as popular in BTC for a while but for just in case i store the wallet private keys that i had meaningful amounts stored in
2717  Other / Off-topic / Re: What are your takes on revenge gambling? on: January 01, 2023, 06:09:36 PM
I've never heard of the term but it fits. I've been describing it as gambling on loss while you are frustrated and angry so yours is faster to say.

But i am sad to admit that this has been the doom of me of several times. Especially on poker it makes to drop down your guard and is a recipe for loss. Now i have a rule that when i am losing enough for it making me frustrated, i am taking a long walk beore gambling, or preferably now playing on that day or few days until i am totally cooled down.
2718  Other / Politics & Society / Re: SBF get prosecuted, Elon got away from laws, why double standard? on: January 01, 2023, 05:04:50 PM
SBF get prosecuted, Elon got away from laws, why double standard?

SBF selling share of FTX company, Elon selling not only one, but three company of the shares, his tesla his spacex and his boring company. But only SBF go to jail while Elon wouldn’t stop making more noise to distract attention.

Why is the double standard? The laws are made to protect the born rich billionaires? What’s the dark magic that Elon pulling to fool the entire legal system? Is it the money that’s empowering him and even to above the laws?

For quick brief, Elon sell Tesla share to fund his twitter acquisition. There is buyer who bought all his share, that buyer is the taxpayer, taxpayer pay the price of the Twitter acquisition. So you wonder how would taxpayer pay the price when nobody is paying taxes? Look at the grocery items you buy on the market, toilet paper food meat vegetable pizza..., the price increased more than twice in two years that’s exactly how you pay the price as a taxpayer to fund the filthy rich and to even break the laws.
First of all, FTT tokens are not shares of FTX company. Secondly, correct me if i am wrong but i don't think it's against the law to sell your shares. Lying about that how your company is solvent however is.

And elon has been charged for securities fraud and stock price manipulation. He is just so fucking rich that until they will give him serious record breaking fees as a consequence for his actions, he will keep doing what ever he pleases.
2719  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Don't buy altcoins because they are top altcoins on: January 01, 2023, 01:53:55 AM
Thing is, historically, even if most of them died, if you just had bought most of them, you would still be heavily in profit. And i am referring to this:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5418571.msg61196924#msg61196924

I am not saying that similar moonings for top coins would happen in these marketcap levels as no one knows that, but i am saying that historically, you might not have to pick the right coins if you diverse enough.
