2521  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambler Loses 1.4 million USD in a bet with lower than 1.01 odds! on: January 18, 2023, 02:52:19 PM
https://nypost.com/2023/01/15/gambler-loses-massive-1-4-million-bet-on-chargers-jaguars-game/
Quote
One bettor wasted a massive $1.4 million wager after betting on Los Angeles before the Jaguars mounted an epic comeback to beat the Chargers 31-30, according to Action Network’s Darren Rovell.

It seems that a gambler has loss this massive amount (1.4 million USD) playing a bet with an odds lower than 1.01! (exactly 1.008)
-cut-
what your opinion about this gambling issue? did you had experience similar experience? how a good gambler should avoid such mistakes?
That's just way too irresponsible gambling for my taste. Risking capital of 1.4 million for high possibility reward of $11200 shouldn't be worth anyone's time. Changes for losing that are pretty too darn high for a 1.4 million bucks if you ask me.

Even if you make a 1.4 million per month from what ever job you have, it would be risking one month's salary. And it just gives me another question. Why would anyone making million per month risk anything for maybe winning $11200. How much that gambler really needs that money?
2522  Economy / Economics / Re: Another Boom for the crypto market. on: January 18, 2023, 02:09:30 PM
With governmental authorisation, Binance can now provide cryptocurrency services in Poland.
I think it's great that the worldwide community is supporting the cryptocurrency industry, this is a significant boost, and I think more nations will follow the present global trend.
https://www.binance.com/en/blog/ecosystem/binance-moves-forward-with-local-development-and-regulatory-compliance-in-poland-1233996135851733478

Binance has been being regulatory compliant all along so it makes me think what's the boost here. Maybe they provided more access to Polish regulators for catching Polish Tax avoiding citizens to get to be "fully" compliant. Taking credit of not being an illegal operation these days however is just weird PR amd tells a lot about how things used to be. I know that working with regulators goes still against for many crypto libertarian ethos but it's the only way forward (and to avoid jail).

Ethereum Shocks the World: Half a Million Validators and Rising, Is Ethereum the Next Crypto King Or BTC?

tell me if it's a stupid question
Ok i'll tell you it was a stupid question. They are not building same things so they are not in competition with each other, even though some maximalists like to think so. If you are talking in terms of marketcap, flippening at some point is possible, but it hasn't happened yet and ETH has been way more sensitive to any fud out there. And more importantly BTC leads the price movements. That should tell you enough about it.
2524  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Future of NFT on: January 18, 2023, 11:58:41 AM
What do you guys think about the future of nft?
Many people think that nft is useless digital trash, but I have a different idea from them.
This is because many famous companies and platforms around the world employ blockchain developers and create related nfts in various fields such as art and sports.
I think it's now Nft's turn, just as Bitcoin has been treated as digital waste and its price has been upward.
Tell me what you think

You shouldn't really compare Fungible tokens or coins with non-fungible tokens. They serve a different purpose. Like comparing stamps to fiat money.
And i don't see it's NFT's "turn". NFT can coexist with fungible tokens, they are not fighting for the same space.

I still think NFTs are pretty pointless. Someone just might make an NFT using art os someone else and make money out of it. But NFTs can't be fully protected by the government, because it's crypto. But if it's not verified and protected by anyone, then what is the point of it and why the price of some of them is so high?
First we would need to understand why people view scarcity valuable in anything culturally semi important, then turn that scarcity to digital scarcity and you have your answer.

But what do you mean by not being verified or protected? Their whole deal is selling collectables with an easy verification. That someone is stealing art is more of copyright issue, not the NFT issue.

Flipping physical collectables in ebay means you would need to be sure they are original, how are you going to do that? You need just trust the seller, you can't check the smart contract being correct one. Not to mention you would need a dry storage space to store them.

With nfts it's impossible to sell digital counterfeits that could be confused to be part of the original collection. You can sell copies for sure just like in ebay you can sell cheap chinese knock offs but no one wants to buy those and you could check them way more faster then physical copies.

I guess your question should be why price of altcoins is high as this is all about concept of digital scarcity.

Marketcap of BAYC is around 1 billion dollars while marketcap of doge is 11 Billion dollars. So maybe better question is why dogecoin has over 10x value to the biggest NFT collection out there. It doesn't even have links to pictures attached to the tokens Cheesy.
2525  Economy / Economics / Re: Brace yourselves, CBDCs one Step Closer on: January 17, 2023, 09:30:25 PM
-cut-
Now that 10 years have passed, some countries have already adopted it but it is still not mainstream. How long do you guys think it will take for CBDCs to become the norm?
From what i know all these adoptions are still in pilot program stage and that's really far from adoption. Most companies have ton of different pilot programs that doesn't really go anywhere. They are just testing new ways to save money and being more efficient which is something most big companies should be doing in order to grow.

But if you know something that i don't, please share it.

So, I've recently found out that Nexo's offices in Bulgaria were raided, but I don't really understand the reasoning behind it, which is alleged money laundering.
Can someone confirm or elaborate on that?
-cut-
What's the reasoning you need to understand? You just said what the reason was and every sources you link say the same thing. Well that and tax crimes but that goes without saying.

But as you are saying "allegedly", i would argue that it's pretty much sure thing they are guilty. You don't make joint operations of 300 people of agents, police and prosecutors raiding a place if you aren't sure what's going on.
2527  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: McDonald's Metaverse or just a Hype? on: January 17, 2023, 09:01:48 PM
Mass adoption is happening again!
-cut-
I don't want to rain on your parade but you can't really adopt something that isn't ready yet. Remember what happened to The McRib NFT? Neither does anyone else, yet people were calling that adoption. And now they are making more?

So far collectables have been about scarcity, community and art. If a Coca-Cola makes generic advertisement poster and brings one of them to Louvre museum as an art, that isn't art being adopted, that's corporations advertising and trying to ride with a wave of the trend they don't fully grasp or respect. Adoption happens when there would be actual use cases for corporations. McDonald NFTs make me think low quality happy meal toys without any scarcity or class.
2528  Economy / Economics / Re: Reserve Bank of India Governor Calls for an Outright Crypto Ban on: January 17, 2023, 08:46:49 PM
India can't make their mind, they are like a new China.

In 2019, they banned crypto and by breaking the ban you risked imprisonment of up to 10 years.
Next year (2020) they removed the ban. They really don't know what they are doing.
Imagine getting sentenced 10 years in jail and next year you hear that what you did would be legal now, and after 3 years it would be illegal again
In China, do you know you can buy and have bitcoin or altcoin of your choice? The ban was on not seeing crypto as a currency. China ban bitcoin and altcoin mining, but it is the second in the world that mine bitcoin now, I do not know how that happened though. Know that India support crypto, it is their central bank that banned it that time that indians took to court and they won. India central bank hate crypto but what they should deal with is fiat because they do not even have the right to anything about crypto, only SEC and commodity regulators should have say on cryptocurrencies.

I meant that it was meme that markets went down every time China "banned crypto". Somewhere right when i started crypto, they banned banks from crypto transactions, price dumped and headlines said that china banned crypto. 2017 they banned ICOs (China bans crypto again). 2019 they labeled mining as undesirable industry. 2020 they went for OTC crypto traders. 2021 they banned crypto trading and mining. And now that i am googling apparently they unbanned trading again: https://techstory.in/chinese-court-unbans-crypto-trading-but-theres-a-catch/

If my memory serves me correctly, india has done some banning and unbanning too.

2530  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: is investing in ethereum safe? on: January 17, 2023, 02:40:39 PM
: does ethereum have a good future?
Define good future? I think so but i am not measuring good future in terms of profits.

: is it not wrong if I choose to invest in ethereum?
You are the one making decisions. Just don't make those decisions for your family or friends by investing their money. As you obviously have no idea what you are doing.

: what is the drawback of ethereum?
POS isn't really tested out yet on such a big scale. And new tokemonics could bring results we haven't really calculated. There could be new exploits bringing it down.

: why is ethereum the no. 1 ALTCOIN?

Because it has the biggest marketcap. Marketcap = circulating amount of tokens * value
2531  Economy / Economics / Re: More Money Problems that Bitcoin Solves on: January 17, 2023, 02:32:50 PM
Exploring possibilities of bitcoin? Possibilites like not having a change to print more money as a buffering system to protect governments from catastrophes?

Just because bitcoin would be a tool for you fighting against inflation doesn't mean it would be such for any government. At the moment it's too volatile for any government to take a risk even investing into it. And inflation isn't really a problem as long as it stays in control and don't spiral out of control. It's only problem if you think fiat money as long time storage for wealth, which it's not. It's a tool for transactions and with a high liquidity and being not so volatile it's a good tool for that.
2532  Economy / Gambling / Re: Satelite Late Betting / Offering Fast Stream / Satelite Feeds on: January 17, 2023, 02:19:05 PM
Could you elaborate on this claim? You mean the software itself can be harmful or it's some gullible peeps giving scammers access to their PC without realizing it? I haven't heard about anyone getting hacked by running Teamviewer or AnyDesk (without giving full access or similar silly actions). Cool

No i don't mean that software itself can be harmful, this is more threat to inexperienced users whee they give access to your computer by social engineering. If you know what the program is used for you obviously would't give an access to anyone. But scammers are always targeting the weakest, uninformed, not tech-savvy people they can manipulate.

I was referring to these guys and tactics they are encountering: https://www.youtube.com/c/ScammerPayback/
Watching them will be worth the time as they often are hilarious and contain so much scammer tears.
2533  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ethereum switch from PoW to PoS on: January 17, 2023, 10:54:14 AM
The issuance changed too, it dropped by ~88%. Doesn't that mitigate the decrease in cost of validating a block?
https://ultrasound.money/

Yep, ETH tokenomics turning deflationary wasn't in the calculations. It baffles me that people think project with nearly 200 billion dollar martkecap would have a development team that wouldn't do careful calculations on their tokenomics game theory. That they would push out something poorly planned without enough incentive for people to secure their chain.
2534  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Vs Cardano on: January 17, 2023, 10:37:32 AM
Yeah, but you have to understand that Charles Hoskinson was once the developer of ETH too, so at some point he knows what he is doing and perhaps looking at his competitor and whatnot. Or having his own roadmap for this project. And if I'm not mistaken, he continue to developed ADA and he keeps on giving us update as much as he can in social medias.
Yeah, i understand that he is one of the founders it but it doesn't change what i said. I just think that people have been overestimating his skills as somekind of renaissance man. He has however lots of funds to hire talented developers for him. And i know for a fact that some of the most talented ones have rejected his offer of ludicrous amount of money because they see his goals uninspirational and even futile.

Just the newest priority of the Biden administration's, creating culture wars centralized around electric stoves. They aren't even that dangerous.
I didn't see this coming either and don't know how what to think about it yet, but they are clearly referring to research data not made by them so how is it Biden administration's culture war?
Saying they aren't that dangerous could be said about anything if you are not comparing it to anything or looking at research.

The blue gas flame is much cleaner than the smoke created by the food in the pans.
Is your argument that why isn't heated food banned if gas stoves are?
2536  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum Vs Cardano on: January 16, 2023, 10:44:26 PM
Do you think cardano will over take ethereum in terms of tech with voltaire being worked on this year. Along with erc20 converter for easy conversion to cardano via ethereum.   Cheesy

No, eth has ton of development too and truth to be told Charles Hoskinson doesn't seem that smart. I mean he is smart but compared to ETH dev team he seems like he has impossible mission ahead him.
Ad then there are the devs, ETH has the lead and devs who want to make money stay on the chain that has most users for their tech.

ADA and almost every altcoin out there has been predicted to be an ETH killer, but somehow people don't understand that eth doesn't need to be killed. If someone has a new approach they can just do that. ETH and BTC can live side by side as they are not killing each other. They are doing somehing completely different. So it should be with newcomers. They should be fixing something ETH or BTC isn't fixing. Visionaries are building new things. They aren't next anything, they are themselves that others want to be next.
2537  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you handle your losses on: January 16, 2023, 10:36:28 PM
No alcohol
I make hasty decisions if i am not sober and if i have taken any alcohol i stop being realistical, i don't feel fear and make huge risks just to feel more rush.

Long walks
I need to cool down if i have lost money. Even when i am playing for fun it gets on my nerves and i end up playing like a lunatic if i don't cool off.

Don't play more money have originally planned to
I always keep a strict budget that i follow all the time. I don't play more this week by telling myself i am using next weeks budget or something like that. Not even if there would be sure bet would most likely win.

Having other activities i can replace gambling with
I have a hobby that has nothing to do with gambling and i fill rest of my week with that if i have used my budget for that week. One of the hobbies is gaming with my pc. It's so close to the feeling i get from gambling that i mostly do just that. Or if i want to test new slots or something, i am doing that with play money.

2538  Economy / Speculation / Re: what caused bitcoin to go up this january 2023 on: January 16, 2023, 10:22:13 PM
If someone figures that out, i would like to know. There are ton of different theories but i am guessing it's the one i haven't yet seen. I would like to think it was time, or that this is correction for dumping so fast, but i don't think you can justify this hope and trust on the markets just by technical analysis. Fundamentals on the other hand didn't make any sense to me either as i was probably following wrong ones as i can't figure out major bullish triggers. There were only bearish triggers that are obvious for anyone following the markets.
2539  Economy / Economics / Re: What is your biggest obstacle to achieving financial freedom ? on: January 16, 2023, 10:05:51 PM

Regardless where we live, money is our top priority in order to survive and thrive. Having enough money to fall back on means we are entitled to more choice and possibilities. Like it or not, we are chasing or being forced to chase money in most phases of our life. Financial freedom has been most people's ultimate goal for decades, if not for centuries. To achieve this goal, we will encounter endless challenges. Each of us has a unique life situation so what is your biggest obstacle to achieving it ? I know we can make a long list of problems but there must be one or two primary reasons that really hold you back. This is where we should focus and I would like to hear your story. Thanks.
Mine is combination of lifestyle and that i am neuroatypical, Weirdly i could have been rich ages ago even though i didn't have a job but i did't follow trough my plans of hodling or even getting out in time.  just kept my lavish lifestyle until i couldn't afford it. I had fun but i guess having financial freedom right now would make up that if didn't have fun and just saved my money.

But i have no regrets, i just hope i learned something. Regretting selling eth, bnb and bitcoin so early could drive me mad if i let it bother me.

Sadly i get the feeling of copy of the copy of the copy.
Adding a cigarette to some nft collection that already exist doesn't really signal any effort or that you are being serious and had big plans for this. ( i am assuming that you took the apes from somewhere and modified as there are ton of these pixelated punks and apes, if you didn't please do correct me.)

At least you aren't using midjourney so i am giving points for that, AI art is currently lowest effort of them all and for some reason EVERYONE wants to try it and flood the markets with it..
