We, humans, or rather our genomes, ARE mostly the virus, or, rather, retrotransposons, believe it or not.
55%-67% of our genome are those little "buggers", if you count simpler repetitive elements.
Alu and Line-1 are the newer and the elder, respectively.
Sometimes, Alu jumps into an important gene causing diseases, but it is mostly a benign "creature".
Every human cell got about 1 mil Alu retrotranspons, which constitute about 10.7% of human DNA.

As El_duderino says...not everyone would understand.

However, where is hyperinflation in Japan that started supporting market with printed money at least since 1992-1993 (3-4 years after their 'bubble' started collapsing)?
As long as money velocity stays low, we will not have high inflation.

Look Biodom, I've seen you make this statement more than once on this thread.

Respectfully, you're wrong.

The way the Fed calculates CPI is just complete bullshit. It's a fraud.

Well, there is no inflation in Japan, that's all i was talking about.
I would not argue with an opinion that inflation in US is much higher than the official number. You are absolutely right.
However, wage inflation is low-that's a fact, and that is the whole underlying theme that is supporting discontent.
Since actual inflation is higher than wage inflation, the living conditions for an average Joe are going down even with their salary raises.

The only way to escape this was to own assets in the last 20-30 years.
Realistically, inflation is probably about 10 maybe 15% (yearly). You have to beat that.
All I am getting at-you have to be invested (stock market, RE, bitcoin) to have a chance.
When wage inflation would go up-then we would have SERIOUS inflation.

You can look at the basket of goods and their weighting for the CPI in Canada.  If you want, you can customise it for your personal use as well but I think it's pretty all-encompassing.  Gasoline here has gone up $0.11 per liter in the last couple of weeks from $1.03 so if you're an Uber driver, your perception of inflation is going to be a bit skewed.  Overall, I think it's a pretty good determination -

... this "have fun staying poor" meme is an arrogant dick kind of thing to say too. Some people can be rich without a cent ... or a satoshi.

I have to agree about the meme, it shows a sort of arrogance of the "haves vs. the have nots" and is beneath the Bitcoin movement. It smacks of tribalism.

But it was designed to get no-coiners attention and make them think about wtf is going on.

I prefer something like "Have fun during the hyperinflation" but that's kind of wordy.  Grin

However, there is a decent chance of inflation spike in the latter part of 2021 because people have savings from not doing anything in the last year or so.
If inflation spikes, fed will be in a panic as these types of debts cannot be serviced at 5% interest rates and maybe even 3%.
10 year treasury at above 3%=calamity (at least for stocks, but maybe RE as well).

tl;dr ... definitely genetically-engineered for human host targets, 71 base pairs is next to zero chance for natural random mutations

Wrong.

First of all, the human genome contains 3 billion base pairs. So 71 base pairs is about 0.00002367% of all human DNA. At some point in evolution coronavirus DNA worked itself into DNA that would go on to become human DNA, and some of that matches COVID-19 DNA. This happens all the time. An entire 8% of the human genome consists of ancient viruses, with up to 40% thought to be viral in origin.

25% of human nervous system DNA is shared with sponges.

I agree that this does not really show anything one way or another.

...since a recombination event could have occurred in a petri dish with growing human cells...overall, a nothingburger..does not suggest anything either way.

Interesting classification, albeit the one that is not 'realistic'.

As I posted before, according to the prevalence of whales in the wild, you are a bitcoin "whale" with 75-80 btc and a "blue whale" with above 200, so woonomic's reference is wrong (albeit it is mostly for fun anyway):

Getting bored of all that bitcoin vs shitcoins rhetoric.

We all know what the dominant force is-it is, of course, bitcoin.
Very similar to the dominance of humans on the planet Earth.
However, do we, humans, need a biosphere to survive? For the moment-yes, of course, but our increased dominance (that is proceeding relentlessly) would eventually result in, basically, a paved planet. We are probably just a few hundred years away.

Whether you think that bitcoin needs a "cryptosphere" or not-both sides have an argument to make.

One would be that bitcoin needs a 'cryptoshere' and another would be that it is all a nuisance.
On one hand, we are trying to replace the old malfunctioning financial system and frequent 'shitcoin' distractions are that-a deviation (wrong path) from the main topic.
On the other hand, we might learn something new from the "shitcoin mutations" to incorporate or adapt to bitcoin if/when we need it.

I am fine not discussing "shitcoins" here, but sometimes there could be a point of reference or two.
I am spending 90% of my time that is dedicated to 'bitcoin+etcetera' thinking about bitcoin.
10% -to everything else, mostly to understand what is new and useful and, g-d forbid, maybe make some cap gains while doing that.

Almost run out of readily available cash for investments, would have to sell something to buy something and since all assets are performing-a difficult proposition.
I wonder if it is all blue skies from here or a few more weeks of consolidation and/or bottoming.

One strange thing about bitcoin: it has a $551 bil market cap, but it's price is still moving like a startup or IPO, not to mention penny stocks.
For some reason, it is not being 'tamed' in its volatility as it ages and increases in size.
Several possible explanations:
1. It is still small comparing to the eventual steady-state levels.
2. Large money induces volatility so they can accumulate.
3. It is it's intrinsic property.
4. Some combination of the above 3.

Imagine bitcoin at $1 mil per and suddenly losing 15% in a day because of a rumor or a silly article.
...That would be $3 trillions, thank you very much.

25.9 or 30 for the bottom?
I agree that 25-26 is a tad low, but 30 is not lower low in a corrective move. Such lower low was achieved every single time in 2017 before it sharply reversed.

Almost at par-good to buy, bad to sell in ret accounts.

Excellent. This would become ever so important moving forward, although all solutions have limitations so far.
How to explain the multisig to the loved ones and expect them to remember this, hopefully, later to much later?

Multisig is mostly a technical solution, but we also need some "humanized" approaches as well.
I wrote before about some futuristic stuff mixed with social. Maybe also 3 out of 5 or even more complex.
futuristic-dna sequence, iris scan, fingerprint, picture, etc., all hashed PLUS social attestation-birthday, nickname in school, mothers maiden name, maybe a pin-also ALL taken together and mixed with the futuristic stuff.

There are a couple of multi-sig wallet provider services, such as Casa and Unchained Capital (there are a few more, but I forget who they are). I would dispose of the biometric stuff. You want your corns sovereign, meaning it can be recovered with easy to understand instructions.

In Casa's case, they work like this:

Quote
3 of 5

1 key on the client’s mobile phone
1 hardware key kept at home
1 hardware key at a separate location, such as an office
1 hardware key kept in a third location, such as a safety deposit box
1 emergency backup key kept by Casa

2 of 3

1 key on the client’s mobile phone
1 hardware key kept by the client
1 emergency backup key kept by Casa

I think they have some low cost service and a free trial, but I would prefer to do it myself, and the final key I simply put it encrypted in the cloud OR buried and hidden.

Unchained has a free setup but charges $20 for individuals if requested to sign. That's kinda like multi-sig insurance.

The important thing for any multi-sig setup is to have multiple copies of ALL public keys, or extended public keys, not just 1 or 2. While you only need 2 or 3 signatures to move corns, you need all public keys too.

Links:
https://docs.keys.casa/wealth-security-protocol/
https://unchained-capital.com/vaults/

for you and me-sure, but for 95% of the population (i am being generous, most likely 99%) this is an insurmountable task, especially if they are getting this 10-20 years from now.

The upcoming geriatric leadership of the US banking thinks that 'cryptocurrencies are used mainly for illicit transactions' when the actual number from chainalysis is 0.34% and that number actually declined from 2% few years before. I am sure that more 0.34% of car movements and coffee drank was done by criminals as well.
This stupidity never stops.
2756  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: January 20, 2021, 03:25:22 PM
Hey guys, I know some of you may be into hardware wallets, some of you are into paper wallets, and everyone wants to secure their corns.

I've been doing some reading lately, and while I've got my cold storage, air-gapped, eternally quarantined computers for keeping my corns secure, I've been reading more about multi-signature setups. Previously, I've only used them for escrow contracts where they knew what they were doing and what they wanted. Those who didn't know or didn't want to risk losing all their corns had to put their entire trust in the provider (me).

In other words, something like 2-of-3 wallets, where 1 is your usual one, and the other is hardware wallet or other separate computer, and the last one is just a backup.

Then there is 3-of-5. But I believe for most people 2-of-3 works for anything of value up to around $100k USD worth of corns. 3-of-5 is being recommended for those storing 7 digits worth of corns, and using multiple hardware wallets. One from cold card, trezor, ledger ...

Personally, I would just use 1 or 2 "extra" air-gapped desktops / laptops functioning as my hardware wallet, but only because I know how to do it myself.

This goes without saying, physical security and OPSEC are just as important, but multi sig allows you to lose one key (or one device, or one wallet) and still be able to recover your coins, and it's much harder or more difficult for anyone to steal your corns, even as your main computer is compromised or infected.

Excellent. This would become ever so important moving forward, although all solutions have limitations so far.

boo-hoo regarding 'hating on' Apple.
I use it as well as windows, linux, android.

Basically, I could care less, but iOS spies on you a little less than Android or so it seems.
5-6 year old iphone (like 6s) still has a bit of residual value while my more recent Android phone has none (or something so small as to not being worth selling or trading in).

Wouldn't it be funny, if many many years from now, the US Govt needs to start buying BTC to start paying off it's debt ?

If they were smart they would start to buy some right the fuck now.

History shows that they don't know when to sell and when to buy.
UK (HM Treasury) sold all their gold at around $200/oz and by so doing pretty much made the long term bottom in gold prices.
Right now, you can only snicker thinking about their 'rationale' at the time.
So..don't expect them to buy until, maybe 500K/btc or so.
