I knew I had to visit you but didn't get the chance to do it this year either! Sucks.

Now you have one more reason and you would kill two birds with one stone, even though changes are always possible, especially after entering the eurozone and the increasingly pronounced AML laws. However, look at it on the bright side, next year doesn't look so bad, and we hope that the price of BTC will then be at least 2-3 times higher than today.

~snip~
Get a cheap flight, arrange for a p2p deal in Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, or whatever as close as possible because of costs, and meet there with multiple! again, multiple traders split the sums. Or you can try finding some ATMs that still have limits for like 500E till they require KYC and visit 10 of them a day, sending each transaction from a different address so they don't red flag it.

As far as my country is concerned, there is no need to risk transactions with unknown persons (if that's what you meant), everything can be done officially in the physical branches of several companies that deal with cryptocurrency trading. Again, it depends on what city you are in, but the capital and a few cities on the coast have 2-3 different options available.
2742  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin could hit $10M in 9 years but more sidechains needed: Blockstream CEO on: February 13, 2023, 04:25:35 PM
We already have L1 and LN networks. Why we need anymore?

Because a person has to build his story around something, and what is better than some new solutions that would enable billions of new users to use Bitcoin every day, as if this is impossible today with the technology we already have. It's not that I'm against development, but I don't think it's necessary to invent something new in that direction in order to increase the demand for Bitcoin - because let's be honest, what percentage of people today bought it because it's something new, innovative and technologically advanced?

That speculation only in form of a tweet though. But news media (cointelegraph in this case) decide to create news based on few tweets and amplify this weak speculation.

When I just remember how much effort was needed to eliminate those who were paid to shill their link, and we are still bombarded with low-value news from that source. Kudos to the OP though for bypassing the direct link.

DCA is a really good way of investing, but it still requires a certain amount of discipline and commitment to the goal, which most people can hardly achieve. The same method also implies long-term investing, which many are not ready for because they do not want to keep their money in something they do not even understand and consider risky.

What you say about the amounts that someone buys is absolutely correct, because buying 1 BTC for $16k and buying it for $24k is definitely a big difference, but buying $100 worth of BTC in the same price range is not exactly something that most people will profit from. Are there still people who think they have to buy 1 BTC? Oh yes, they really exist - because the number 1 for most of them is something just a little higher than zero, and 0.00100000 BTC doesn't look like an attractive amount on the account.

If someone makes 20 posts and most of them are labelled as "likely AI" by multiple detection tools and generally sound like vague bullshit, then... you know... it's a duck.

I can agree on that, but considering that the majority will say that any free work is a waste of time, I wonder who will spend their time hunting this new generation of AI posters if we also take into account the attitude of the moderators towards such reports. It seems to me that the majority of such reports could remain unhandled.

Just like with any other issue, e.g. plagiarism - you don't rely on a tool 100%, you need to look into the context of how this occurred, what the potential intent was, etc.

Actually, I always rely on some tool that can detect plagiarism, and that tool gives me possible sources that I then check and try to determine if someone has plagiarized their post, whether it is perhaps that someone is the original author and forgot to post the source. I always approach such matters very seriously, and even if I make a mistake, I know that the moderators will not make their decision hastily.
2745  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: February 13, 2023, 11:51:48 AM
lovemayfamilies famous quote " a plagiarist always leave something behind" If Mod discovers more plagiarism in his post history, he may be banned.

Mods mostly work on reports and don't look for plagiarized posts themselves, so it's not something to get your hopes up about. My report on the plagiarized post (number 3 from @Solosanz post) was marked "Good", but it was only deleted, and BPIP does not show that the user has been banned.

I think that you are very confused and that you are looking for something that is impossible to achieve at this moment. You can play with these detectors as much as you want, but I don't consider them reliable enough to kick someone out of the campaign based on such detections.

The initiative is good, its implementation is very questionable, and I'm not even talking about the time that the manager will have to spend to assess whether something is original content or AI generated. However, if you think you can help the forum in detecting those who abuse it, you can always click on the "report to moderator" button and give your contribution Wink
2747  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin could hit $10M in 9 years but more sidechains needed: Blockstream CEO on: February 13, 2023, 11:22:19 AM
Another speculation that serves no other purpose than to provide a little publicity to the person who made it public - with the difference that he wants to be someone who will be talked about more than Cathie Wood, who recently stated that by 2030 one BTC will be worth between $250k and $1.5 million. Personally, I think that the price of $10 million for 1 BTC is excessive, regardless of how many sidechains have existed and what will happen in the next 10 years.

The only thing that would lead to such a strong increase in prices would be the decision of the most powerful countries in the world to start buying Bitcoin, and I don't think something like that is likely, especially in countries like the US, UK, EU, India, China or Japan. Of course, maybe a few more countries will follow the example of El Salvador, but globally this has little or almost no impact on the price.
2748  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Somebody should tell me more about Bitcoin trading. on: February 12, 2023, 04:50:27 PM
I don't want to discourage anyone, but trading with Bitcoin is very risky for any beginner, because even more experienced traders lose money if they are not careful enough. Researchers say that even 95% of people give up after a few months, and that they mostly have losses, but this is not unusual considering that most people enter these things completely unprepared and want a quick profit.

Persistence and gaining experience is a possible winning combination, but only a few reach that level.
2749  Other / Meta / Re: It is possible to ignore signatur code & Avatar? on: February 12, 2023, 04:30:49 PM
He's still at Junior, which many campaigns aren't accepting. Wait until he ranks up to Member, things might change, who knows Wink

I would never hire someone who is very likely involved in merit trade (see my previous post), although for some it will be enough that someone earned 5 merits in 120 days. Post history is really classic bounty spam, and if the OP doesn't change drastically, there is no chance for any serious sig campaign.
2750  Other / Meta / Re: Ranking up in Btalk - How does it work? on: February 12, 2023, 03:49:40 PM
2018-2023, 5 years running on Bitcointalk, weird, I dunno.

I read the OP's post several times because it seemed to me that he was not serious with his question and it seemed to me that he was confused with the threads bumps in some parts of the forum. If a Senior member is confused about some basic features of the forum, don't be surprised by beginners who seem lost in their first days or weeks.

By the way, it's a bit strange to me that the OP has the will to ask such questions, considering that he didn't exactly have the best week in his life - he allegedly lost his job and a close friend, which would have much more serious consequences for me personally - but I'm glad that he still looks at life on the bright side.
2751  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: FreeWallet.org stole my money on: February 12, 2023, 03:19:52 PM
Why they decided to steal $50 baffles me.

Do you know how many such accounts with less than $50 have already experienced the same fate as yours? I assume that there are thousands, if not tens of thousands of them, considering that these scammers have a very good domain, which in combination with the keywords "free, crypto, wallet" almost always has a position at the top of the search results. A perfect trap for naive crypto investors who don't know the difference between custody and non-custody wallet, and what's even worse, nobody can do anything to them because they only work according to the law.
2752  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some important threads on: February 12, 2023, 02:53:48 PM
I appreciate your effort as a beginner, but this board has 4 threads at the top where everything is more or less explained in detail and anyone who wants to read cannot overlook them. However, if at least one newbie will learn something from all those topics you listed, then constant repetition makes some sense Wink
2753  Other / Meta / Re: Report plagiarism (copy/paste) here. Mods: please give temp or permban as needed on: February 12, 2023, 12:20:05 PM
It's 2021, and you were already a Hero rank member, not a newbie, so your excuse isn't valid if you plagiarized more than once to meet your post quota. Solosanz has done his part, and your fate is now in the hands of the mod.
~snip~

I agree with your thinking and think that it is completely conscious plagiarism with the aim of profiting from the signature campaigns. I believe there are many more plagiarized posts by the same member, so I supported @Solosanz with my personal report and I hope the mods will do their job.
2754  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Withdrawing Bitcoin off the radar on: February 12, 2023, 11:21:07 AM
@Ultegra134, what you want is possible (for now) in a country that you might want to visit for touristic reasons Wink There are physical exchange offices that do not require KYC up to a certain amount, which was 2000 EUR last year, and I think they have now reduced that amount to 1000 EUR. The fee in such exchange offices is around 5%, which is not small, but still less than what you would have to pay in your country.

For more details, you can always contact me via PM and I can give you more detailed instructions.
2755  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why people don't adopt Bitcoin - they don't understand Expected Value on: February 11, 2023, 05:04:52 PM
That's why I said it's a reason and not the reason, because the slowness of Bitcoin adoption is a complex issue. But I doubt that mainstream media is playing any serious role, because if you track mainstream news, you know that they only mention Bitcoin when there's big price action and they simply report it. And if you read some economic news and analysis, you can find a lot of pro-Bitcoin takes, because there are institutional investors who are invested in Bitcoin. And they don't view Bitcoin as a financial revolution, to them it's just an asset that brings investment opportunity.

Maybe it's your way of seeing things, but I still wouldn't agree that the mainstream media doesn't influence the public perception of what the average person thinks about Bitcoin. It is not only what you will read in the last few months, but also what you will read in the past 5 years or more.

If you look at how much negativity has been created on the topic of Bitcoin mining with crazy claims that it consumes some kind of astronomical amount of energy, and the data from Q4 2022 shows that BTC mining consumes only 0.17% of the total world energy production. If you ask 100 random people what they think about it, I believe that more than 80% would say that Bitcoin mining is bad for the environment - and this is the result of the constant influence of most media on the subject.

It is similar to the public perception that Bitcoin is used for money laundering, terrorist financing, tax evasion, drug trafficking and a number of bad things. We know that the share of Bitcoin in this is very low, but those who claim the opposite will always use the story of Silk Road or something similar to try to prove the opposite.
2756  Other / Meta / Re: Good Initiative by Royse777! on: February 11, 2023, 04:37:35 PM
@tranthidung, I don't think (like most other members) that this initiative is bad, but as I showed in the example, I don't see that at this moment there is a precise method that can distinguish AI content from what is unique. If the members of that or any other campaign use various AI detectors and report their results to the manager, he will face a very big challenge to distinguish what is a real problem and what is a false detection.

However, this whole thing about AI and its influence on the forum is nothing new, we discussed it back in 2020, and as things stand, we will increasingly doubt whether we are having a discussion with real people or artificial intelligence.
2757  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether reports $700 million Q4 net profit in latest attestation report on: February 11, 2023, 04:05:00 PM
Ok now you lost me. What does President of el salvador or their crypto mining operations have anything to do with tether making profit? How are these things related?

I doubt that the OP was going in that direction, but the guys from Tether played a key role in El Salvador legalizing BTC as legal tender, because Bukele had some other ideas before that, and if he had decided to implement them, no one would be talking today about that country. It's not a very popular story on the forum because it doesn't fit the general agenda, but if you want to know more -> El Salvador Bitcoin: Tether buys itself a country; and why Chivo sucks

But about taxation, i really doubt that I seriously doubt that el salvador has similar power to track down crypto users and tax them. Especially when citizens aren't using their own fiat money but are dependable of USD and BTC.

According to what could have been read before, Bitcoin is not something that is taxed in El Salvador in any sense, and if that were to change in any case, then it would be very easy to apply taxes because everything goes through the Chivo wallet, which is a centralized wallet controlled by the government. For your information, USD has been the official currency in El Salvador for more than 20 years.
2758  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it true that 80% of the world's wealth in the hands of 20%? on: February 11, 2023, 03:36:49 PM
What governments can do to make it more equitable?

The world's politicians could do a lot to reduce these inequalities, but they don't want to, and even if they wanted to, they wouldn't be able to because they (politicians) are nothing but pawns of their masters who rule from the shadows. Today's world, which has turned into a completely consumerist society, needs as many uneducated and unaware people as possible, which they will exploit in all possible ways - whether it is the millions of poor people who work across Africa, or the hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who work within the EU in conditions that would could be called modern slavery.

The paradox of the whole situation is that the majority of those who are at the bottom see these billionaires as some kind of gods, and it is they who are partially responsible for their poverty.
2759  Other / Meta / Re: Good Initiative by Royse777! on: February 11, 2023, 03:16:41 PM
I think it is tricky but can get good results.

Although some posts may look like they are the work of AI at first glance, how will you prove that they are really the product of an AI Chat? I have tried 5-6 detectors and I am not satisfied with the results, because even very small changes in the entered text can give completely opposite results.

Here is the part of your post that one detector says is even 93% fake.

~snip~

I think the video is a bad example when it comes to investing in Bitcoin regardless of the math behind how many times the coin will fall heads/letters and how much money is in the game. Some people just don't like gambling (regardless of the odds), and we all know that the house always wins in the end and that only a few can boast that they made money gambling, while more than 95% of gamblers lose far more than they win.

Therefore, I don't think that the fear of loss is the main reason why people don't want to invest in Bitcoin, because the reason can also be that someone simply doesn't have the money to afford any kind of investment, while others think that it's all a big scam which will collapse sooner or later. It should be kept in mind that public opinion is not shaped by this forum or a few more significant sources that provide information about Bitcoin, but by the mainstream media, which is mostly owned by those who want to preserve the system that allows them absolute control at all costs.

In addition, Bitcoin was never supposed to be the kind of gambling you are talking about, but something completely different that most people either don't know or deliberately ignore.
