2761  Other / Meta / Re: ajw7989 (legendary account) my account hacked CAUTION on: January 16, 2016, 05:34:45 AM
Why are more accounts getting hacked nowadays? Huh

Does forum has any security hole? You should share your experience on how it may got hacked?

We may be more cautious considering yours as an example.

The problem is not the forum, the problem here are the people... they should care more about their security.
Yes I tend to agree. Many people do not pay necessary attention to the security of their account which is very sad.I think accounts above Full Member are more prone to hacking therefore these rank members should be more cautious

For the most part I agree it is based on user.  But some of these that are not active it is possible that the forum hack a while back was still valid on password.  We never figured out (i don't think) who did and ultimate goal of the hack of the forum.   If a user kept the same password as then they now have had months to crack it.

OP since you say you know you have a hacker I'm curious what was the cause?  Did you find anything on computer?  Or no idea what caused it.

Just when stuff looks bad  look at blocks

(saving space from double post of pics)

We can hope it does go down.   A little good news is I keep watching it and seems we hit a little more of a sell wall around 370.  It's stuck around it for a bit.

If you like watching coinbase http://bitcointicker.co/coinbase/# is funner on up day's on value.  But I have been using it as pretty good site to watch real time.
2763  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: The cost of electricity in the world on: January 16, 2016, 03:37:54 AM
Guys,

I'm experiencing mining with solar panels since the beginning of 2014.
The worst part is that you have to use a huge space (or build a bunker), because, when you got lot of sun (like I, that I'm close to Ecuador, and the sun here is very strong) you have to cool your miners (with cold water pipes, lot of heat sinks or air conditioning) but all these options are expensive. I'm mining because I love Bitcoin and I hate the government.

if you have a MPPT charge controller, a sine wave inverter and good batteries, you don't have to worry so much. Best brands, long live to your system. I'm expecting at least 15 years, and I want to burn miners till S29 iahoihaoihaoihao.

ps: I'm mining since 2014, but my panels are from 2009. Kyocera Solar, I'm using it to power my house Cheesy

MINING WITH PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS IS SO FU****** COOL !!!

cheers  Cool

What is the effective electricity price after taking into account of all the extra costs? Is that less than $10c per kWh?

Also how many miners are you running? And how many watt's does it come out to?

Normally battery costs for thousands of watts of mining gear adds up pretty quick on cost.
2764  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: Jan 11 to Feb 11 Sidehack Compac Stick pool new 30 day run. on: January 16, 2016, 03:35:42 AM

I might suggest looking at RPI.  They use so little electricity it makes a lot of sense when running a lotto miner.   I have a RPI 2 running right now on mine but a RPI 1 would work fine.

It is Linux if you use the raspbian OS.  So nice not messing with windows.  I highly suggest RPI route.
2765  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [RUN 2 NOW OPEN][SIDEHACK STICK]GekkoScience Compac Official sales thread on: January 16, 2016, 03:25:06 AM
No, but we can at least complain about stolen pictures and inaccurate listings.

Yes we can Smiley

Sadly he sold out... so no amount of complaining will do much at this point as they cant pull an auction that is done.   So guess he won can't believe he made so much off of it.  Crazy though.
2766  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: I'm completly new to the mining world on: January 16, 2016, 03:20:53 AM
Hey, as the title says I'm completely new to the mining world, and i'd like to buy a ANTMINER S7 BATCH 8 i've been doing some math and accordingly to this site " https://alloscomp.com/bitcoin/calculator " i will be making around $200 a month with it minus electric cost which is about $.11 in my state "FL", i'd like to know if i'm missing something if i do can you guys point me to the right direction? thanks

By the way i'm not new to the bitcoin world at all, i've been buying and reselling BTC for the past 10 month, but as of now id like to start mining my own coins, thanks again

Well it's a little hard right now as .11 is not "cheap" electricity.  So you will be mining and selling down road most likely if you are to make a profit.   It is going to be easier then trying to mine out a profit.  Also when it's not worth running at .11 cents someone with 2-3 cents who is really lucky still has use for a while so again selling comes into place.

Today BTC took a dive in price were at around 370 vs over 400 in 1 day.  And we were in 440's a little bit back.  So it is harder on calculators right now.  The hope is it goes back up in decent time but there are no guarantees in mining.
2767  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: [Hands On] KeepKey Hardware Wallet - Notlist3d on: January 16, 2016, 03:16:46 AM
@notlist3d have you been able to use a passphrase with your KeepKey? The site claims you can add passphrase protection to the seed but I see no way to do it. I just got my KeepKey the other day and am writing up a comparison article to Trezor. KeepKey also claims on reddit that it is now compatible with GreenBits on Android, still trying to get that working also. I have a support ticket open on that one. No passphrase protection is a huge negative for KeepKey.

I still have my KeepKey and love the size and feel of it.   It is a great wallet it feels substantial an my favorite feature is that screen.  This was built on Trezor code so you will see a lot of crossover due to that.

I have not tried passphrase protection, your on right direction on asking KeepKey on that.   They should guide you through it better then me if it is a option.

There are no passphrase protected accounts on KeepKey unless you use it with Electrum confirmed. Using it with the Chrome App you can only use PIN protection.

Thanks for posting your results. I tend to use MultiBit HD a decent amount when using it.  Have you confirmed Greenbits on android?
2768  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Wallets and Cold Storage. on: January 16, 2016, 02:42:04 AM
Then my suggestion would be to get a Ledger HW.1. It doesn't rely on Ledger the company to work. It's a USB stick, sort of. You can pick one up from Purse for $15, I paid in Bitcoin, and they shipped me mine for free. I have a review of one on my website. Check it out.

The Ledger Nano is also a option if wanting one still in a area not to expensive.   I have did a hands on with it - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1305888.0

So far have used KeepKey, Trezor, Ledger Nano.  I have lots of good things to say about using hardware wallets if done right.

2770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Alternate Coins on: January 16, 2016, 02:34:24 AM
Well, this is acutally a question for altcoin section.

I guess people invest in altcoin because they have much more potential. If you buy an altcoin for 1 $-Cent each, you can easily make 100-300% within days and weeks. Bitcoin price is not that dynamically anymore.

Bitcoin is still very dynamic in movements.  Look at past 24 hours, and 48 even.  It is far from a set rate so investment in BTC can have big movement.

I think it will always remain more dynamic then most good countries fiat.   But that is part of what makes it so much fun.
2771  Other / Meta / Re: Can this forum be used for fundraising? on: January 16, 2016, 02:31:40 AM

Thanks for the info!

Yes we are for real. I will provide "proof"  of the organization, no problem.

You can see the post I made here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1328919.0

Thanks for your time!

Best of luck.  I am a dog person so hope you do well.  I would suggest sharing some concrete information if you have documentation of being a true non for profit.

As much as those pictures pull at heart-strings and Facebook does, that is not concrete proof.   I would provide it in open not just PM as you mention.  It's just a hard sector as so many scammers out there.
2772  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HELP! Total Newbie was told I needed to accept Bitcoin for charity on: January 16, 2016, 02:28:10 AM
The easiest way would be to simply post a donation address and its qr code on the website.

It looks like OP is trying to scam in the name of charity Sad Utterly disgusting.
He will probably reply posting his Bitcoin address and adding a sob story,
Watch.

Sorry for any confusion - I came here to ask for help, not money.
And as I have an organization specializing in reproductive rights - it is probably safe to assume I am female.

You don't have to do much a QR code or write out address to donate.  That is it as far as website so a photo uploaded or wirting on website could do it.

Just make sure to keep it in a wallet that is safe.  In all honesty I'm not sure how much offering BTC donations is going to help. If you are a true 501c3 most will want to pay via check to make tax deductions easy.   I don't see Bitcoin expanding your charity much.

Unless he could get a direct payment from Coinbase. Then he would be able to withdraw it quickly and easily, and, If he were to use mobile authentication, then there is less chance of hacking.

I'm not referring to them having a problem I think donators are ones it is harder for.  I have not tired to donate BTC and claim a tax deduction for it on a 501c3.   I personally like donations in check or some form I have for if I ever get audited (hopefully never) but if I do it's easy to show donations.

I just am not sure on reporting a BTC donation 501c3.   They might give reciept or something with dollar value making it possible.  But they really need to go to lawyer and accountant to see proper way to handle BTC donations and how best to be able to be a tax deduction.

I was part of a computer club that got 501C3 and I can tell you it is a pain just to get.  But I think you will get charged some consulting fees to see how to handle these donations.   So I really don't think you should go for it unless you have some big donators pushing for it.
I suppose instead they could place something like an account number and sort code. This would mean that people could make direct transfers in whatever form they like: Online Banking, Mobile Banking, entering alocal branch, using an ATM... ETC....

More people have a bank account than use bitcoin , it is also possilby easier to send money too.

But your trying to reinvent the wheel.  There are already sites out there like gofundme, that have mastered this sector.  They can put a link to gofundme on website and gofundme allows someone to donate in USD through multiple things including credit cards.

If I was OP I would not put a ton of time into this. I would make a paper wallet and post it in donations as options.  But I would be surprised if much comes to it compared to regular way's of donating to 501C3's.  And I still would ask an accountant when I was in a group that went 501c3 there was all kind of documentation for just about anything.
2773  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Replacing the Fan on an S5 on: January 16, 2016, 02:18:02 AM
Thanks for the info about ordering fans.  I'm attempting to quiet the miner to make it more "wife friendly"  Smiley

You picked a miner that is not great on that sadly.  The S5 runs hot and loud.  You chances are can find a way to make it quieter, but I think it would take a lot to make it quiet.

With winter you might be able to use some cold from it to help allow less RPM's.   But kinda a short term fix on that.

The only way to do that is putting it somewhere she can't hear it. Possibly building a soundproof enclosure for it would work. You would need accoustic panels and make a box out of it that still allow air to move through freely, but not noise.

And by the time you put the time/effort to do a enclosure I think it's in most cases not worth it.  Others wanting one around the S5 efficiency but quieter I suggest going with Avalon 4.1 .

If noise is a issue and you can run a generation back the 4.1 is one of the quietest miners out there.  You can just underclock no need to switch fan's or make a enclosure this way.
2774  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Hands On] Bitmain AntMiner S7 - Batch 8 - Notlist3d on: January 16, 2016, 02:14:14 AM
Deleted a post that as pretty much double post from regular S7 thread.   Don't delete many so I try to mention when I do.

Not much reason to have 2 conversations https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1165628.msg13564443#msg13564443 is where other one is if anyone want's to comment.
2775  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S7 is available at bitmaintech.com with 4.86TH/s, 0.25J/GH on: January 16, 2016, 02:10:02 AM

LoL it's all right here ...let me help you ...just read it https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1165628.0

Ugh, you are totally missing the point.  -- I am looking for first hand experience, someone who has worked with bitmain, more than just a single unit. Just asking questions.  If you have experience with these units, ordering, and live in NA, maybe PM me or something. I can ask you directly. Otherwise, just stop being a dick. I obviously have read this thread extensively, so you linking me to the root page is like me sending you a link for something you already know, like this:

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=define%3A+you%27re+being+a+dick

No it not obvious to me at all.

I have read all 12 of your post in the forums.  If you had indeed read thru this thread you would have seen ( and not to many pages back) where someone had ordered multiple miners shipped to the U.S. and his troubles he ran into. Dont you think you would learn more from skimming thru the pages and following all the good and bad we have been thru in ordering the S7 from Bitmain. You would have a better understanding knowing it like that. I say bullshit your going to drop $100k for miners. Good luck in your astounding research.

aurel is right on almost all people.  You would be surprised how many come acting like they have big money to drop, and have lots of questions.  In the end most do not invest.

Just to go from no miners to 100kish of miners is not reasonable for almost all.  You need a data center or large operation just to host it.   And considering price of BTC in past 24 hours you would shock almost all if you go through with a sale of this scale.  It's nothing against you it's just tons of people have done this and asked questions about "what if" and say a far larger amount then they actually invest if any.
2776  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Should I Buy used or new miners? on: January 16, 2016, 02:00:18 AM
Short or long term,  I can't see both as a good investment.

Most miners are way overprices (this includes the miners from our beloved Bitmaintech).

Bitmain price their miners just enough to think you have a chance to get ROI and if you are patient you will. But it will be in no scale towards the time you've spend.
It's a smart game they are playing, luckily most people see through it/them.

Even though most people know this, they will keep on buying the miners in the hope that the bitcoin price will rise. It is better to buy bitcoin directly.

Short term is not the greatest look at last 48 hours, the last 24 especially.  It is hurting on a lot of people compared to where we were at.   It is a decent loss if they bought in hen you post was compared to now.

Long term I agree it chances are will be better.  But short term is going to hurt miners as difficulty rises and price drops.  Not a fun mining environment.
2777  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newb - Is mining worth it with a low budget? on: January 16, 2016, 01:55:40 AM
Even ASIC's can't ROI in less than 300 days in today's conditions, GPU mining is only for burning your graphics card for nothing.
You shouldn't even do mining with ASIC's if your budget is low. That's not positive effective cost.

And burning a GPU is possible to do.  It's been a while but I was decently into GPU's, and was always pushing for more power.  Seeing a GPU and a puff of smoke is one of the least fun things to see.

Also GPU's have been making warranty less great.  When I was mining a lot were 5 years, some even more then that.  No GPU's don't have the 5+ years that almost all had I don't think at this point.
2778  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: cheap electricity so what now? on: January 16, 2016, 01:50:21 AM
Yes the ROI is pushing me more to multiple cheap to make a sum of 2T/H or 3T/H

That is the great thing with not having high electricity.   You can buy used gear at a considerable discount and look at best bang for the amount of hashing.  Not the most efficient.

For me efficiency is importing as I have what I would call normal electricity.   So I really have to keep decently new gear.     I plan to see what is profitable and what I sell after winter is over.

Considering price is at around 375 currently... it's been a ugly 48 hours on value.  We really need it to go up again at some point.  But we broke through the 400 wall... not fun to see it fall thought.

I would be happy with under 5 percent this week.
