Bleh, no thanks. They hash ok, but they're horribly inefficient vs. 5850/5870/5970. Very good MH/$ though.
in the case of a 5970, the decline in value of the equipment itself would more than make up for the efficiency difference not sure about the other two

Right before I sold mine in favor of 7970's, I was pulling down +/- 1btc a day out of 2. One was on water, massive overclock, the other was on air, not-so-massive overclock. My electricity is 6.9c/kwh, at current prices I was making right around $4.change a day, paying them off in 6 months. If you can get a couple for under 350, maybe some xfx's that have the second lifetime warranty available, I'd say go for it. They are sort of, well, prone to failure so figure that in to your overhead, and it might make more sense to get newer generation cards.
7970 will drop in value fast. Even at 7c electricity I don't see the wisdom in purchasing a 7970 solely for mining (would have to have some gaming on the side). Maybe if the electricity was free. I had seven 5830's that I bought for $110 each..... but also got a steam key for Shogun 2 download... which sold for $10-$15... So, about 95-$100 for each 5830. A year later, I've sold all but one of those... total depreciation? Well, nothing.. 7970 a year from now will be worth much less. 5970 is getting close to a good buy point.... Another couple months should see them under $300, probably around $275. Right now? 5830 (or 5850) is probably still the easiest to get at a price that won't drop much in absolute $... but 5870 might be the best value when you figure in hash rate & efficiency. 5870's are what I've been buying, price point at $160 or less (a little higher for XFX). I think most people just choose to ignore their equipment depreciating in value when figuring profit..

have you tested to see what the max clock is at the stock bios voltage? i know the two i have max out at 1010 and 980. i run them at 950 (or sometimes 1000 and 980 ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) ), but can undervolt the first more than the second. i assume that that's related i just bought a 5870 off of ebay for $170, so i might be interested, if you have that #

thanks for the linkage. Seems like they already sold out of the 5830 xtremes on NewEgg.
The one @ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102978is listed as still in stock.... other one is sold out though =p ed: oh, yah, the xtremes are sold out... didn't notice Then who'd I insult if it wasn't you? I guess you just need a better grasp of what the term 'growing a thicker skin' implies.... shrug, not sure what else to tell you.

I'm agreeing with imsaguy here, I use 5830's for mining, they sell for $70 + shipping in the US. If you want to sell it for more, you can offer to ship it internationally, but that does come with slightly more risks for both you and the buyer (customs, lost mail, + more shipping costs).
I'll offer you $80 + shipping to Europe (if its a reasonable shipping price, cheapest trackable method available), payment via PayPal or BTC escrow.
The reason you can sell stuff for more on eBay is that eBay offers the buyer protection against scammers, also if the card was to break within 45 days I'd have a much better chance of getting a refund through ebay. That is why buyers will pay more on eBay.
Also, just wondering why you think imsaguy's offer is insulting for your card, is your card able to overclock to very high speeds?
Interesting then that someone just bought one for $97 @ https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=74810.0re: your last sentence, did you even read my original post? 5830's don't sell for $70. Bargain hunters or re-sellers look to buy them for $70, yes. So you might be insulted because someone gave you an offer you don't like, but it is what it is and perhaps you should grow some thicker skin. I didn't take it personally, I just said it was insulting.

I'd do $140 for the pair and some sort of escrow because I don't recognize your name.
i think he is only selling one yeah, just the one for now. then the 2nd one after I buy a 5870 to replace it. the $140 is too low, anyway. i don't think it'd have any problem selling at $100 buy-it-now on ebay, except that I'd end up losing 10% of that in fees. but if someone was actually concerned about that, then to ebay it could go. though I'd attempt a $99 buy-it-now with a $10 shipping charge before lowering the price to a flat $100 my ebay acct has something like 400 positive feedbacks, 1 neutral, 0 negative... not sure if paypal still has those seller ratings it used to have, but that used to be several hundred as well, though mostly from stuff I sold in '99-'02 I've bought many, many used 5830s on this forum at 70-75 over the past 6 months. It is a fair price for that card in that state. Saying you could sell it on ebay is like standing in a farmer's market trying to sell some potatos saying you could get a certain price at the supermarket. There's a reason each market exists and expect each to act like the other is a bit misguided. So in short, if you think you can get more on ebay, quit talking about it here and sell it on ebay. You may have bought many used 5830's on here for 70-75 'over the past 6 months', but that's not a fair price for the card I'm selling. It's an insulting offer, really. The type that someone that's planning on reselling it would make. Give me a break. Oh, and thx for the suggestion, but I prefer to wait another day or two.

Yeah, the email I got was rather specific on being penalized for not upholding the minimum requirements... that was sent March 7th.. so not sure about these ppl, if they signed up before then and there wasn't any warning or what. I had a lot of strange problems w/ the pool being unstable but still stable enough as to where it didn't always kick over to my backup server. Then came the June temperatures in March (my plan has been to move these systems to an outdoor shed, but I haven't even finished w/ the insulation yet... cause I thought I had about 6 more weeks of 75o or less temperatures..)..... lots of heat issues there, so sold off some of my cards. And then we had some bizarre 50% rejected shares issue (which may have been a connection issue, not sure)... so, I haven't mined much lately there... but I still did get paid the 0.02526109 for the shares I did last cycle ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) ... never had any problems w/ receiving the payments (although an automated or at least manual payout would be nice). anyway, it does say "beta". and clipse does send out emails to keep you informed, so.. I'll probably give it another whirl before that Apr 1st deadline now that my heat issue has been resolved (although I've given up about 1.5ghz at night and 2.5ghz during the day, sigh..).

Guessing this is dead?
Yes. P.A is not responding to this thread anymore... He logged in a hour ago. Maybe he got the cards he needs? Well, he has a thread selling one 5870. So, perhaps he got one 5870 then decided he didn't like bitcoins.... got a bunch of 5870's and is selling off a lemon.... or something much more sinister!11111

Wouldn't take $300 then, eh?
