2761  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if crypto mining is outlawed ? on: February 07, 2022, 07:44:35 PM
China banned miners, the EU is thinking of doing the same and what if others will follow?

In a hypothetical scenario where China, US Canada, Russia, India and EU ban pow mining I doubt the smaller countries can sustain the current active miners. Hashrate would drop significantly and the network would be weaker.
Either there would be a massive investment in solar in many developing countries or we might see the first 51% on BTC (hope not).

Do you see this as a potential threat or did the fud get in my head?

It is definitely a potential threat, with an energy crisis going on in almost every country around the world it is possible that cryptocurrency could become the target of future laws to clamp down on waste. One of two things might happen and potentially both. It might reach the point where mining becomes prohibitively expensive and not worth the cost. Which might also tie into more media attention which attracts the ire of politicians and the general public, that large amounts of energy is being consumed by what some might see is unproductive "mining" that is purely benefiting the few at the cost of the many. Besides forcing tech companies to potentially optimize hardware, mining does not do much for most people.
2762  Economy / Economics / Re: Just my own thoughts on: February 07, 2022, 06:06:46 PM
Bitcoin is fully decentralized which is why I think it doesn't have to compete with Fiat at all, those who needs the decentralized idea should just keep using BTC as it is, we all know that CBDC will run on the blockchain too but in centralised form so where thus this leave Bitcoin?

To be realistic about the future you have to consider Bitcoin to be a stepping stone, an excellent but imperfect cryptocurrency that will at some point become redundant. It simply does not have the inherent capacity to perform all the transactions that the world needs at the level of speed and environmentally friendly capacity of existing networks. We're starting to see a few governments get serious about formulating their own cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin will hold value for a long time, maybe just as an item that rich people love to show off, but functionality wise we will see it drop off as more of it gets lost - never to be replaced or in circulation.
2763  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino KYC how it works and to what effect on: February 07, 2022, 05:53:45 PM
Realizing how negatively kyc is seen by many players mostly in cryptocurrency casinos players am confused what kyc does in a casino, why do some casino operators have kyc and others don't have. I email also a part of kyc because most casinos often than not request email. What are KYC's advantages and disadvantages.

One thing you always need to be wary of when handing over sensitive documents, that often gets overlooked, is that if they are somehow stolen then they can be used to commit all sorts of identify fraud in your name. Crypto casinos are prime targets for hackers as they can be used to steal funds which can be laundered in a way to make them almost untraceable and they are frequented by cryptocurrency users, which provides a new avenue of attack on people with large amounts of crypto. It can make you more vulnerable to later phishing attempts, or people could create all sorts of fraud issues in the offline world. Compared to fiat casinos, this breed of casino is much more susceptible to such abuse and you need to be careful who is handling your KYC information.

i was right people have no more money  Embarrassed ...let's hope it get better...wish i wasn't right on this one

Covid certainly turned the world upside down, it'll take a few years for supply chains and people to normalize again but have no fear. The history of the world of business is boom and bust, like the sun rising and setting each day - just on longer cycles. You just need to have faith that people are always striving for a better life and are surprisingly resilient at persevering. It might be a tough year or two, a recession may even hit as people struggle to afford what they used to have, but it's just a way of re-balancing. People often forget about the easy years, where they could borrow money very cheaply and there was plenty - but it takes a few rough years to be grateful again.
2765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto-Currency in Africa on: February 06, 2022, 04:41:56 PM
Portuguese were the first to discovered Africa and Nigeria in particular in 1384, they had treaties with traditional leaders on trade. The only method of transaction was "Trade by Barter", in which the exchange rate was goods to goods. Even when the British came after the Portuguese, the same form of transacting was still maintain. And that period was known as "Agrirarian era".

When the industrial revolution came, African economy was monetized to suit the capitalist system abandoning the African way of trading.

Different currencies were introduced in African countries. Mostly the farmers who could not get the white cola job to have the newly introduced currencies for transaction became frustrated and most of them died in the process.

After the introduction of currencies in the continent, African currencies were made lower in the world. And Africans were trying to upgrade, increase and make sure that their currencies should be equal with Pounds and Dollars in the physical and the stock-exchange market when Crypto-Currency Storms the continent with its digital appearance that making the citizenries more confused.

Crypto-currency is not a physical cash or currency that the primitive men or market women can easily use for their transaction of goods and services in Africa. But internet base or computerized currency. Statistically, about 80% of inhabitants in Africa can't access Internet plus high cost of devices.

Africa being a developing continent, have deficiencies in the technological atmosphere, mostly internet and light.

Most of the Communities in Africa have no internet services and light to access the currency or use it for transactions.

So, to what extend can everyone in Africa uses the Crypto-Currency for transaction of goods and services.

Also, how can Crypto-Currency help the indigenous Fiat currencies and grow the African Nations Economy.

Wow that was painful to read. Africa certainly does need help in many areas, but unfortunately many countries have fallen to corruption (in part caused by the nations you describe) and are currently going into heavy debt as their leaders are selling out citizens in exchange for Chinese debt financing. Unlike European and American countries however, the Chinese will happily take control of major infrastructure like ports and airports when the debts cannot be paid - giving them a stranglehold over any future development. It is a tragic story, but unfortunately tribalism has been too strong in this region - both through the indigenous population and through external interference. We can only hope that some people can be saved by joining the internet economy, as jobs seem harder and harder to come by.
2766  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino KYC how it works and to what effect on: February 06, 2022, 02:09:23 PM
Realizing how negatively kyc is seen by many players mostly in cryptocurrency casinos players am confused what kyc does in a casino, why do some casino operators have kyc and others don't have. I email also a part of kyc because most casinos often than not request email. What are KYC's advantages and disadvantages.

The reason? It's quite simple - most casinos start off small and off the radar. In the fiat currency world, they wouldn't be able to launch and keep going because their payment processors require this sort of information. In a cryptocurrency format, they can exist for a lot longer before attracting any attention. You also have to remember that the owners of such casinos usually live in countries that require KYC, so are bound by those laws even if they hide their company behind a lot of shells. Once they have reached a certain threshold of earnings, it simply makes sense for the casino owners to legitimize - so they start paying local taxes and requiring KYC up front. They have reached a large enough player base that they can jettison any players who do not want to conform.
2767  Economy / Economics / Re: Facebook ("Meta") down 25% in a day on: February 06, 2022, 01:36:22 PM
https://www.cnbc.com/2022/02/03/facebook-shares-plummet-22percent-after-reporting-weak-guidance.html

If I told you this was going to happen the day before you would have thought I was out of my mind, yet there it is. All it took for Meta (previous known as Facebook) to wipe out one quarter of its market value was to have less than expected growth in number of users. I never had much faith in Facebook particularly if you compare the trendy type of business with something like Amazon, Google or Microsoft who do not depend as much on staying fashionable.

Now, there is an opportunity if Libra or something similar comes out and their version of the metaverse works. Hint: They are going to have to reinvent themselves and face a fierce competition.

There is a lot of air built into the share price of these so-called "FAANG" companies, but it's very easy for them to deflate the second growth starts to slow or tumble. People are buying such companies with the hope that they continue to grow at 10-20%, which would help make the sky high valuations more palatable in a year or two. It's unsurprising to see such a reaction, but Facebook seems to have a few other problems going on - Apple adding restrictions recently will put a dent in the mobile advertising revenue and there is a lot of bad press about Facebook & Mark Zuckerburg recently, hence the name change to "Meta". They are also trying to pivot into this metaverse thing, which could drain a lot of money and nobody is quite sure how it will pan out, an all round recipe for disaster really.
2768  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: About Snooker Game on: February 06, 2022, 08:57:16 AM
Snooker is played on a table similar to a pool table... different set of rules, different table, different balls, you get the picture. Smiley
Here you can read more about it, a bit about the history, rules, etc What Is the Difference Between Billiards, Pool, and Snooker?
Turns out I've been calling pool as billiards all this time (It's what my friends called it when we were playing it way back then lmao). The general rule seems to be similar across all three games? Most differences are in the way players can score points or the way the points are needed to be scored, but other than that, they're almost the same to each other.

besides, is there a crypto casino having this game in their list? or even in sportsbetting, i have never encountered this sports in their list. but i do agree, some people are into this sports. there's an upcoming world snooker championship this April, so let us see if some of these crypto casinos will list this event and give odds to the players.
maybe, the odds are mostly available in fiat bookies but we will see if crypto casinos will touch this event...
Yep, I tried looking up the name on some casinos and I managed to find some tournaments about it you can bet on. I looked around sportsbet.io iirc? Not sure if it was the exact sport but what are the chances of sports having the exact same no?

The concept is very much the same, but pool/billiards is basically two colors with a black ball and a very self explanatory way to win. Snooker is more complicated, as you have to pot the balls in a specific way and there is a lot more strategy involved. You'll find pool played a lot more casually as the games tend to be shorter and it requires less time to learn. People tend to progress to snooker after if they like the format, it can require thinking a couple steps ahead and sometimes if there is no shot available you want to make use your shot to make it much harder for the opposing player to continue. There's a small but steady market for the game.
2769  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin evangelist Michael Saylor says crypto regulations would speed adoption on: February 05, 2022, 10:47:56 AM
Tighter government crypto regulations would actually be a positive catalyst for bitcoin, MicroStrategy co-founder and CEO Michael Saylor told CNBC on Wednesday.

"Additional regulatory clarity from the [Biden] administration is going to benefit bitcoin and accelerate institutional adoption of that asset," Saylor said on "Squawk on the Street," stressing as a major bitcoin believer and holder he's looking for "clear, bright line definitions of digital property versus a digital security versus a digital currency and the operating rules of the digital exchange."

U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler said last month that the agency is planning to crack down on Wall Street, including by creating and enacting rules for cryptocurrency markets. Back in August, Gensler said Congress needs to grant the SEC additional powers to regulate crypto.

Source

Is this where we are heading! Without regulations from the government, btc will never be able to achieve the so desirable adoption, if people like Saylor is publicly calling for regulations it means soon we will witness it, what do you guys think would happen, and what about btc maxis who are strongly in support of decentralization and privacy, will they be willing to give that regulation in other to use btc?

This is pretty true, because while Bitcoin is an excellent online currency it will never be accepted fully by governments (and thus seen as a dangerous threat by financial departments) until it is fully regulated. That is going to involve exchanges that share financial transaction information with the tax authorities and cooperate with police authorities. This is one way that people could avoid their country banning it outright, but it only works successfully in democratic countries, authoritarian governments tend to have ulterior motives when they are trying to control the financial abilities of their citizens. There will always be a possibility that criminals will adopt it heavily until this comes into place.
2770  Economy / Economics / Re: Is it just me or people are out of liquidity ( money ) ? on: February 05, 2022, 09:16:28 AM
Is it just me or people are out of liquidity ( money ) ?

From what i see : market , malls etc no people,or if they buy something...they buy basic stuff... in my area ...slow biz ...same in your country ?

People seem to be getting squeezed by everything and it ripples throughout the economy. Fuel prices go up, which results in products and services going on (people need fuel for transport), while also causing the consumer to have less money to spend. So stuff in shops is going up in price and people cut back even further on luxuries. Lots of countries are struggling with an energy crisis, so heating their home or using air conditioning gets a lot more expensive. It seems like Covid caused all sorts of supply chain disruption with lockdowns on and off for two years, hopefully we're over the worst of it now so things can start balancing out. There are lots of other contributory factors but many people are definitely struggling when their salaries are not moving up to match.
2771  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Evolution Thiefs but no help from stake support on: February 05, 2022, 09:03:10 AM
Hi people i play at stake almost 2 years with no problems sometimes big sometimes small
I play on provider of them on live blackjack on evolution game,my total balance was low 44$ so i do bet 22$ that if i want to double or take insurance i can
Now on the table near my name you see chips with 22$ but on total bet they charge me on 44$ the game start dealer got ace i got 20 i can't do insurance beacuse they charge me 44$ that's all the balnt i had dealer got blackjack, now its only 44$ but fuck i am right and i hate when player right and casino disrespect player, evolution they thief they say i bet on 44$ even i have screen shot that show 22$ but i reat disappointed from stake no help no nothing thanks god its 44$ but still i am  very upset on this situation, this the screen shot name joni
https://ibb.co/whRdYyy

Unfortunately these sort of extremely rare glitches can and do happen, it's just especially painful when you are playing with real money on a low budget. Unless you happened to have screen monitoring software that was recording what was happening at the time to prove that it was a glitch in the game, you are unlikely to get any support back from them. The best thing to do is just move on and avoid playing that particular game in future. If you complain and enough other people have a similar bug happening (not sure how many people are betting $22 at a time), then it's possible that they could refund you if a bug was later found in the game. Don't assume they are thieves but they are definitely responsible for their software having glitches and they should investigate thoroughly.
2772  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: About Snooker Game on: February 04, 2022, 09:31:15 PM
I have hardly seen people discussed about Snooker unlike other games, mostly discussion about Football, Table tennis, poker much others.

my passion for Snooker all started when i was very little then, i follows my uncle to some joint where they plays over it but since i was very tender i never knew it was all for gambling. Anytime i sets eyes on snooker it keeps the memory awakes so gradually i picked interest about it. i can be liken to gamble over it.

please more discussion about snooker can be detailed here if you have any. i really want to gain more knowledge.

It is a really fun game along with pool, however I'm not sure it'll ever have a very high reach reach across the world. It does take an expert touch, but it has been televised in certain countries for decades now and just doesn't seem athletic enough to capture a wide audience. It can seem a little boring and dreary to some sports fans with little room for action. It's a very enjoyable game to be playing in person around friends while you have a drink but that's probably the extent of it. Just got to be grateful that you can find fairly big championships in certain countries like the UK and there will always be someone taking bets on the biggest events, with some of the players becoming semi-celebrities.
2773  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Celebrities Embracing bitcoin because of Divorce? on: February 04, 2022, 09:20:49 PM
Recently, I found threads on this forum about celebrities such as footballers, musicians, e.t.c embracing bitcoin and choosing it as a payment method for brand endorsements. On the second note: I thought about it this way; since they are an increase in divorce in their industry, especially the musicians. Could holding bitcoin be a plan B for securing their assets if their spouse files for a divorce?

In search of an answer: I read a Law Firm blog that said something about sharing bitcoin 50/50 during a divorce. They clarified that any bitcoin transaction that occurred while the holder is married belongs to the marriage fund and can be shared if divorce arises and vice versa.

How do they get to know the truth?

They claim that some questions when asked to a spouse, would determine if they hold bitcoin (that's if they answered correctly or genuinely).

They can track a spouse's bitcoin transactions through the person's hard drive.

They urge people to open up about every asset they hold. Including; bitcoin when in court.

After a brief thought, I concluded my thoughts about some single (Not married) celebrities. Observing the rapid increase in the divorce of their colleagues would see bitcoin as a plan B to secure some funds to keep them balanced even if they experience such ill-treatment from their spouse in the future. Because most celebrities like DR Dre fell off balance after his wife filed for a divorce.

What do you think about this?

In any civilized society that has come to certain agreements on how to split the assets of a couple at the stage of divorce, the medium of value storage is absolutely irrelevant. If one person in that couple happens to own 2 bitcoin and a court decides that all assets should be divided in half, that person would owe 1 bitcoin to the other person. People try all types of trickery to try to deceive the courts and break the law, but it always has the possibility of catching up to them. What you seem to be getting at with your post, is the suggestion that it might be a good way to hide assets - buying Bitcoin that can be hidden, as most people know that the methods you described are a pretty poor means of tracking bitcoin ownership and the trail can be easily broken. Encouraging dishonesty and associating it with Bitcoin would likely do much more harm to its long term prospects.
2774  Economy / Economics / Re: Why criminals prefer cash (Fiat) on top of crypto? on: February 04, 2022, 09:03:01 PM
As of late, crypto has become extremely popular due to the negative effects of COVID-19 in the mainstream economy. People are starting to consider crypto to be a safe-haven against the traditional monetary system empowered by banks worldwide. Yet, the vast majority still relies on Fiat for day-to-day transactions because of its price stability and widespread acceptance in the mainstream world.

With the advent of privacy coins, people can enjoy true financial freedom like never before. Privacy coins can become attractive tools for illicit activities because of their untraceable blockchain ledger. Despite all of the benefits privacy coins provide, criminals still rely on Fiat for all of their nefarious actions. I'm starting to wonder why, since Fiat (physical cash) is not as anonymous as one thought it would be. Privacy coins are truly anonymous (especially those that are private by default like Monero and Grin), as there is no central authority behind them. Maybe criminals prefer Fiat because of its high level of adoption in the mainstream world? Or maybe because Fiat has an easier learning curve than crypto?

If by any means criminals start adopting crypto in mass (especially privacy coins), we could expect a full government crackdown on the entire industry. Which is why I think it's best for criminals to continue using Fiat for the sake of the crypto/Blockchain industry's growth worldwide. But we'll never know what will happen in the future. Thoughts? Huh

We're talking about different classes of criminals when discussing fiat and cryptocurrency transactions. The local drug dealer isn't inclined to accept cryptocurrency because they are running a cash business - they buy in cash, they receive cash and they restock in cash. Besides that, their customer base is unlikely to be super sophisticated to use Bitcoin, or at least enough customers don't do it to make it worth additional hassle. The type of criminals you see talked about in the news and referring to crypto are large scale - randomware attackers, money launderers and criminal syndicates that generally just need to move money across borders with ease.
2775  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Bet365 and UFC extended their partnership on: February 04, 2022, 08:59:24 PM
https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/14975/bet365-and-ufc-extend-partnership
Bet365 and UFC have just extended their partnership and agreement. They are official betting partner in UK and Ireland. They are also creating a digital MMA show called 'one on one' also at the same time the company bet365 will work to advertise specific UFC content on various advertising platforms as well.
Quote
“After such a successful 2021 with bet365, we’re looking forward to expanding our partnership to include the creation of new digital content for our fans this year,” said UFC Vice President of Global Partnerships Nick Smith. “This is the continuation of what we believe will be a long relationship with bet365.”

There will be visibility on UFC fight pass as well at the same time there will also be Branding done at the octagon as well.
There will also be tickets and giveaways available for the fans if they subscribe to the YouTube channel ' one on one'.
What do you think ?
It's a really good year for bet365.

I was reading some statistics the other day and it showed that MMA was the 7th most popular sports based sub over at Reddit, so there is certain a solid base of viewers and fans out there. It looks like a wise choice for Bet365, who are probably trying to branch out into other sports now that European football is starting to kick out betting sites from sponsoring them - they might be ahead of the pack in this regard. UFC have a large and committed base which is exactly the type of demographic that gambling companies traditionally target - young males. It will probably make a nice little sum from this partnership and have some insider statistics feeds which will give it an even great advantage in determining odds and in-play betting.
2776  Economy / Gambling / Re: Pragmatic play slots not available in my region on: February 03, 2022, 07:42:14 PM
Hi, I love slots and I play slots whenever I have a chance to but as much as I love playing slots I don't really earn much in them. Nostly the good games are not available in my region and it really sucks. Can someone explain why they don't give access to games with great payout to people from other regions? I find it quite unfair.

It's nothing to do with whether it has a great payout, that's probably false and you've probably fooled yourself into thinking it will somehow be a winning game for you - they're all just set up to feed profits to the casino. To answer your point however, there may be certain games that are legal in your jurisdiction that are offered by a casino and some may be offered by the casino but restricted because they are illegal in your region. Like, it might be possible to play games that follow a lottery or raffle structure, often considered a more mild form of gambling. However anything like slots might be strictly prohibited - the casino doesn't want to lose a customer so will only offer you certain things or direct you somewhere that can accommodate you.
2777  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto Wallet Hacking through Telegram on: February 03, 2022, 07:37:21 PM
Recently i was reading an article where Hackers target crypto wallets through Telegram using Echelon malware is explained.
I have followed the instructions and disabled the Automatic download of media option in telegram. But i fear that many people will keep the auto download option enable because of unaware of this threat.
I wonder how this virus will work and how can they reach to our wallets / exchanges?

Anyone with a substantial holding of Bitcoin should definitely keep their main wallet away from any devices that are likely to be attacked - phones are a prime target and pretty insecure in that regard. Phones are constantly being attacked with exploits, through rogue apps, backdoors and unintended glitches. That's besides all the social engineering trickery that can take place, people losing big sums of money after being craftily encouraged to install or download certain things which gives other people access to their keys. It's dangerous to use any software that has an auto download option by default and it might go on to steal all sorts of personal information.
2778  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto in Indian Economy? on: February 03, 2022, 07:00:02 PM
India currently has the largest number of crypto users at over 100 million.  Nowadays, crypto has become very popular among the young people of India and many of them are involved in the crypto business.  How is it possible to raise so much awareness about crypto in a country so technologically and economically poor and will this current crypto enthusiastic generation of India could build up the future Indian economy to prosper or will it adversely affect the country's economy?

Many people forget that India is very close to China in terms of population with around 1.4 billion people. A lot of those people will be living in other countries around the world and crypto gives an excellent means to transport funds without necessarily having to pay high middleman fees that you find with a lot of banks. Sure you pay transaction fees and any exchange costs, but they can be much more reasonable. You might also find that there is a lot of internal off the books trading going on and this gives people the ability to move money around without being vulnerable to certain government bodies, like the tax office, from being able to see certain suspicious transactions.
2779  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: New NFT based game launched on: February 03, 2022, 06:45:52 PM
According to the news : https://www.gamblinginsider.com/news/14970/winter-olympics-nft-based-game-launched-by-nway

Game developer Nway launched a game that mimics the winter Olympics and at the same time it's going to be a play to earn game. They titled it Olympic games jam: Beijing 2022 which is backed by an NFT. The players can also choose their own avatars as well. It will be available on both android and iOS and the opening is on 4th February.

It would be a really high quality multiplayer game as well. They would even be able to earn Olympic digital pins as well.

Would you particularly participate in such a game ??
Do you think it's a good chance to earn from it ?

Sounds like it will just be another remastered clone game, with a built in "cryptocurrency" that it seems the IOC is trying to build a hype around. Winter sports is definitely quite a niche in the sporting field, so I wonder how long it will really last compared to other sporting events - they should have just made it a whole Olympics app with a section focused on the winter part. Doesn't seem like there is much original stuff in here, especially when one of the apparently big selling points is the ability to "customize the look of your avatar". Basically seems like a big corporation looking for ways to spend money and look cool by having an app that includes NFT's - the buzzword of the moment.

2780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I was finally able to purchase an iPhone 13 pro max using my Bitcoin on: February 02, 2022, 09:02:27 PM
I went to buy a phone with my friend today. Going there, Iphone 13 pro max became my favorite phone.  And arouses interest in buying. But I did not have enough money to buy that phone in my pocket. I laugh and talk about Bitcoin to the owner of that showroom. I was surprised to that the owner of that showroom want to sell his phone to me  for Bitcoin. And I asked him again, "Are you kidding me?"then He immediately gave me a bitcoin wallet to pay him. I paid him bitcoin and bought the Iphone 13 pro max.

Since the price of Bitcoin has come down a lot now, it has become foolish for me to buy the phone with Bitcoin.  Because for that I have to spend more bitcoin.  But still I am very happy to be able to do it.  Because in my country Bitcoin is still declared as an illegal currency.  Nevertheless, I got this advantage

So, the point of your story is you were able to buy things for money? I'm a bit confused. I wonder if this is more a case of the owner getting away with selling an item "off the books" so they can avoid paying tax on the profits and it's unlikely you got any form of receipt to back it up, so you might not be able to go that route if it's even an option in your country. I guess if Bitcoin is considered illegal then there is no hope of taking it back if there was ever a problem with it. Frankly I don't understand why anyone would buy a phone that costs over a $1,000, so maybe you have a lot of money already or you might be a little bit wasteful trying to buy the latest devices with very little extra features.
