(The few minutes of downtime just now was due to me doing something, and is unrelated.)
Not again Sad

Some of us can't live without Bitcointalk for even few hours LOL!
I was thinking we need a backup plan. What if some day the forum goes offline and doesn't get back up? It would be really nice if we can "start over" at another location, where only the real users can claim the same username. But to start, everyone would need to know that location and it can't be found without Bitcointalk.
2762  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Have one in full or just part? on: October 13, 2023, 09:19:53 AM
So is there any kind of advantage to having the full node?
The main advantage I see is being able to open an old wallet, or import an old address (watch-only) or private key.

Quote
everything together isn't taking up 2TB, is it?
It's about 550 GB now, and usually grows by around 2 GB per week.

But, to have only the final part of the no, is it viable for the person to obtain the same confidentiality or privacy?
In terms of privacy, yes it has the same level of confidentiality and privacy as a non-pruned node.
I'd like to add: for privacy, run Bitcoin Core through Tor, and always make use of Coin Control.

Code:
Hi. I BABY SHOES with today signed this bitcoin address message. bc1qnmrjhp2qr5chyc9hwlaa7scra29ya8sxqy2mfl
It's better not to sign a message without a date. The same signed message can be used again in the future, and it will still get verified.
2764  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why didn't satoshi implement reward system for bitcoin node runners? on: October 13, 2023, 05:45:50 AM
Btw is that possible to give one node 10,000 different IP addresses? Btw in this case, won't you have to pay for each IP?
Some people/organisations already have access to thousands of IP addresses.
2765  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why didn't satoshi implement reward system for bitcoin node runners? on: October 12, 2023, 01:37:37 PM
Let's say, 1 bitcoin is created every 24 hours and each node runner gets a fair share of it. I can't understand how would it lead to a centralisation. Reward is not big enough to make it worthy to run lots of virtual servers but reward is enough to keep a fairly big number of people running nodes. There are people who spend days on faucet websites to get some cents and I believe these people would run node in that case. Also, many kids would run nodes to get a dollar or two. I still think low reward would lead to a better decentralization.
If one node earns you a dollar, 10,000 nodes earn you $10k. And all you need to do is give one node 10,000 different IP addresses.
That's why Bitcoin relies on proof of work: it can't be faked.
2766  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: So I got a free laptop and am looking to setup a linux os for a node . on: October 12, 2023, 01:20:50 PM
90% of laptop users will never make use of their dual drives so there is nothing to really miss here.
My current laptop has a second disk in the bay of it's DVD burner, but most newer laptops are too thin for DVD drives so that doesn't work anymore.

If for whatever reason you feel an additional hard disk (not just more disk space) is required, feel free to buy any of the external SSDs that have reasonable performance. And have acceptable failure rates as well - i.e. no Sandisk SSDs.
I don't want to rely on a permanent USB connection, it's far too easy to get disconnected.
2767  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Why didn't satoshi implement reward system for bitcoin node runners? on: October 12, 2023, 12:56:27 PM
I think a lot of people would run bitcoin node even for some small rewards and that would benefit bitcoin.
I can't find my old post on the subject, but it would be very easy to spin up thousands or even millions of virtual servers for this purpose. It will most likely lead to a few large parties controlling the majority of nodes, which is the opposite of decentralization.
2768  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Free RPC username password on: October 12, 2023, 11:10:56 AM
Hello i am developing some kind of marketplace i dont want to download whole blockchhain on my pc even in prune mode
anybody know any website which provide username password and api url so i can configure it with my application for testing perpose
It cost me less than $0.50 to download and prune the full Bitcoin blockchain on a cheap pay-per-hour VPS. If you're developing a marketplace, I don't think you should rely on third parties for your data lookups.
If it's for testing, use testnet. It has a much smaller blockchain.
2769  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: USB port blocker on: October 12, 2023, 10:49:25 AM
This guy on YouTube says he bought his device with a USB port blocker and was able to remove the blocker using a slightly bent paper clip.
That makes sense, unlike the Kensington opening, USB ports aren't designed to be locked on the inside. This feels like a highly overpriced product anyway, it should be 20 for $2, just like camera covers.

Was this a record and if it wasn't, whats the longest that forum has been down? If you have that info.
I don't know, my scraper was blocked by Cloudflare for days (while the forum worked) in the past, so I can't really know this data.
2771  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: So I got a free laptop and am looking to setup a linux os for a node . on: October 12, 2023, 10:36:30 AM
What would be your preferred  sata ssd and your preferred pcie ssd.
I bought a Samsung 870 EVO Sata SSD a couple of months back. 1 TB for just under €60. My old laptop doesn't have a more modern slot, and one of the reasons I haven't replaced the laptop is that I like having 2 drives in there. Most new laptops are too small for that.

Quote
Now that prices are decent I buy 2tb and 4tb when I buy.
I went from 64 GB to 256 to 1 TB. Next one will be 4 TB indeed, but it'll take years before I really need it.

I've had the Crucial MX500 too. It performs better than the BX500.

Comparing the 870 EVO vs BX500: the main difference is in "Hugely faster deep queue mixed IO. +786%". But like I said: you probably won't notice it in most applications. My main reason to skip the cheaper drives was the realisation that replacing a drive takes many hours and isn't worth the effort to save a small amount of money.

The 62,940,389 Posts in 1,366,119 Topics by 3,567,459 Members probably blew up the servers. Who made the last post? It was the last straw Cheesy
Let's all blame AlexandrTDS Tongue

I read some news about strong waves of DDos attacks in recent days. Perhaps the forum was caught in the middle of these attacks.
Unlikely: Cloudflare worked just fine. Unless there was a DDOS on the forum's real IP address, but I'd assume it's hidden.

The forum was down for 3 hours, and almost 24 minutes between post 62982720 and post 62982721.

At same time I wish to LV to feel better quickly.
Thanks! Luckily, theymos turned off the Bitcointalk server this morning, so I could sleep without any distractions.

Thanks again for your flawless timing!

Get well soon.
Thanks. I need it. It turns out I have "mild" pneumonia, and I really had to slow down everything I'm doing. I now realize how underrated breathing air is.

screws differing with head style or drive types needed.
Not bad, not bad at all Cheesy Slotted is 1, Allen is 0.

On second thought: doesn't that stand out much more than a slightly uneven fence? I mean: I've seen thousands of uneven fences, but I've never seen different screws in all planks. Then again, I never look that close either Undecided
2776  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [100 dots] seed phrase backup on: October 11, 2023, 05:15:19 PM
Everyone will agree with what you say. However, without talking about my passphrase, one would argue that it's better to have a "long" passphrase (including lowercase, uppercase, numbers, and symbols) but that is also "easier" to remember. Isn't it true? I mean, going for something like "29$_918jHlahq2)814nd000qhh<>ajL" is perfect, but you must back it up perfectly and forget any chances to "remember" it. You will ask, why remember it when you can just note it down twice? Correct! But it's good to have also have a chance of remembering it if needed.
I'll throw in a counter argument: what's the point of remembering the passphrase, if you don't remember the seed words it belongs to?
2777  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: (LINK) BitVM: Compute Anything on Bitcoin on: October 11, 2023, 05:12:49 PM
Why not make a simple escrow tool
The problem with escrow is that it needs "some input" from real life. If I buy a collectible coin, the only way for the escrow to know for sure the seller sent it, is by personally verifying it. I don't think this can be automated in case there's a dispute.
2778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: So I got a free laptop and am looking to setup a linux os for a node . on: October 11, 2023, 04:57:54 PM
I grabbed the 2tb ssd for about $85 usd including the tax. Which is really cheap price for a 2tb sata ssd.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YD5F561?
For what it's worth: there's a huge difference in SSDs. This BX500 for instance:
Crucial’s BX500 provides up to 540/500 MB/s of sequential read/write throughput, but that can drop to an average of just 100 MB/s during a sustained workload.
I found out the hard way how sneaky drive manufacturers are nowadays, after I bought a 2 TB HDD that drops to kilobytes per second when filling the last 20%. With this SSD it's not that bad, and for your purpose you'll probably never notice it, but it is something to keep in mind. I now only buy disks that can sustain their performance until they're full.

I will be teaching myself and my wife to run this as I am a bit disgusted with the direct apple os is
I've never liked Apple, and I don't like Windows, so I've been using Linux for a long time. I love it, and can only recommend to get used to using the command line (and vi). I still prefer the console for most file operations, it's faster and much more powerful than the GUI.

It was a mistake in my life and I just brought my mistake and I will never make this mistake again.
And yet, you're still shitposting. Your mistake was joining Bitcointalk to spam hoping to earn money, while clearly you're too stupid to understand what you're doing.
You've created 88 posts and have 43 posts left. At least 40 of  your posts were deleted by Mods. You should have been banned by now.

3. "stay away" - 1 month 6 hrs
I wouldn't trust a site that gives such a terrible estimate.

For password strength, it helps a lot to have many rounds of encryption. Keepass back in the days allowed to manually set the number of rounds. If it takes 1 second to unlock your data, it also takes 1 second for each try. Brute-force resistance is one of the great things of BIP38 encryption. I'd love to see a similar standard for encrypting seed phrases.
