27641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Interest thread for Eliovp linux build for pandaminer on: January 05, 2017, 05:47:19 PM
Okay Evliop and I have bounced a few ideas around and we agreed to start a thread.

The panda miner is pretty darn good piece of gear.
It could use a linux build and Evliop has built a linux that works.

So  we came up with a 2 tier donation idea.

Tier 1 is  the linux build + drivers for the mobo   cost =   1x
Tier 2 is the linux build + drivers for the mobo + roms = 1.5x

If we get enough interest   and get past a threshold   I would open an address   take collections and then the build A or B would be sent to the donators.

Obviously once the builds are released people will spread them around so For Evliop it is a 1 shot deal more or less for a pay off.

Now this is all very tentative and no funds are going to be collected by me at the moment.

We tossed around ideas as to what is a fair asking price and we decided to open the thread and ask.

For me

If I were to purchase tier 1 I might pay as much as  x     for linux + mobo drivers

If I were to purchase tier 2 I might pay as much as  1.5x   for linux + mobo drivers + rom for gpus

These numbers   would at least help Evliop get an idea how much interest there is for the product.
27642  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Pandaminer -> Linux -> Modded Roms on: January 05, 2017, 04:19:47 PM
op and I have been kicking around ideas  of how to work out a linux for pandaminer distribution.

I may start a separate thread.

I know this is off topic, but Kano always talks up Avalon.  Just got another A721 man these things are awesome...just steady hashing machines!  Blows Bitmains quality out of the water, so far.

I have two. I prefer them over the s9
27644  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: mmpool.org - 1.5% fee DGM/PPS - tx fees/vardiff/merge mine/tor on: January 05, 2017, 05:01:47 AM
I noticed I put two machines using the same log in name for my worker.  That's ok, isn't it?  The second seems to be climbing up in hashrate very slowly.

What machines?

I used to be able to point six or seven machines to one worker.

S7
 Avalon 6

Did this no issues.

I now point a r4. And a rental.

8th and 100th

Works okay
27645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Panda Miner coming up. on: January 05, 2017, 04:35:28 AM
DHL just delivered the Pandaminer this morning.

My first comment.....

Huh.... its smaller than I thought it would be.

8 x 480s in this small footprint!

its like the length of 2 shoe boxes.

Today is going to be a busy day.

Phil... I may need help if I brick this OS. Cheesy Cheesy

I told you it is really small.

I am asking for that linux build. I need a better os

the windows 10 os is brutal.  I still have a mix of Chinese French? English.

but maybe 85% english.

As for the gear.

I can source :

fans
ram
gpus I think
mobile gpu = really hard but maybe

only the motherboard would be impossible to source.
27646  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: January 05, 2017, 03:55:57 AM
has anyone heard anything of bitcoinworld.biz ?

Please elaborate.

I visited this site today but not able to get it is profitable or not or just a scam site

I would stay with Bitmain or Avalon for your hardware if you are wanting to go that route.  If you are looking into cloud mining, I would go with Bitmain(Hashnest or contract) or Genisis Mining although not as profitable.

One other consideration is Altcoin Mining and there you can build your own Rig with GPUs or buy an already built Rig from MintMining.com (this is me) or Panda Miner.

Just some advice and options.

This advice is pretty good.

I own Avalon direct from them
I own s9 and r4 from bitmain
I own some cloud hash from hashnest
I have a pandaminer
I have 40 gpus in diy rigs I built myself.

I own a little bit of gear from side-hack.

I don't have a gpu rig from airesIV10
27647  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Panda Miner coming up. on: January 05, 2017, 03:38:53 AM
@Phil - Is this Panda completely just powered by PCI only?  This would be fantastic news, as I can power a ton of this without needing ATX Power supplies.  The IBM 4KW Server PSU bundle seems like a winner's choice for this.  .
yes the Panda need only PCI-E 6 Pin nothing else.

How many PCI-E sockets in total please?

seven

Interesting. So 8 GPUs, 9 10W fans, and the mobo/CPU/SSD/RAM are powered from 7 6PIN PCI-E ports. Wonder how the power is distributed internally...

I would love to get a bare board with a better CPU. Like an i5 5200u

27648  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Panda Miner coming up. on: January 05, 2017, 02:54:08 AM
I have recently tested a CUDA ZEC miner ... EWBF clocking more than 500 sols/s on a GTX1070

I wonder if the Pandaminer PCI slot is also same format for a Mobile 1070 or 1080?

I read somewhere that NVidia mobile GPU is wider

That info is missing here

27649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Panda Miner coming up. on: January 04, 2017, 10:35:37 PM

not sure they can do that make a 18-19 inch rack mountable unit due to with or length of mobo.

the wire shelf systems  with 24 inch wide 14 inch deep 72 inch tall look perfect.

agreed, they would need to change the exterior width dimension of the case by ~21mm from 503.5mm to 482.6mm to get it to fit, and judging from the pictures the mobo is already a tight fit.

yep, looks that way.

It would be an interesting engineering exercise to see how many GPUs they could fit in a standard 2U full depth (87.3mm high x 445.5mm wide x 730.2 mm deep) enclosure. This would fit in a standard datacenter rack (dimensions taken from an HP DL380G9 without a bezel).

it is not about the case.  the mobo  is a perfect fit in the case

left side                 ___________________________ right side
has 2 usb                                                                has 7 pcie jacks
2 hdmi
1 ethernet
1 power button       ___________________________

all jacks are soldered to mobo and fit the case perfectly very good quality fit and finish

to shrink to fit a 19 inch rack   you need a 6 card mobo

now a six card mobo  could be much  less width  say  16 inches
make the unit tall make the heat sinks taller
and you could have 92mm fans but that is a completely different model and idea.  I am not sure it is any good.

the wire shelf can be modded with walls on the sides and small holes for the wires

you could even make the wire shelf sides 24 or 30 inches

that would allow for more fans to attach to the shelving for better air flow in the building.

BTW  picture a sliding door   with a rack pointed at it .

a home could mine 96 gpus easy

72 by 24 by 14 wire rack

basement sliding door

27651  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Power Supply question on: January 04, 2017, 06:27:40 PM
Hi,

I have a rig which PS is working almost at the top of its power, and I'm afraid it won't be enough on the long term because I read it's meant to loose a bit of power. I think I could get a PS a 20% more powerful to have some margin, would that be enough? Anyone with experience on the matter?

Thanx a lot!

yes and no

some psu's can run close to 80%
some psu's can run close to 90%
some can do closer to 95%-100%

that said running at 70%  is better for just about every psu around .  just easier on all parts involved and almost aways more efficient at 60-70% then 80-90%
27652  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Panda Miner coming up. on: January 04, 2017, 06:09:36 PM
The only issue for me is I need that density to fit inside an enclosed rack. Don't have option of using shelves as described, wish I had more room at home.

that's good feedback for Pandaminer, i.e.: make the enclosure so it fits in a standard 42U rack, and include mounting tabs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rack_unit

In the meantime could you put shelves in the enclosed rack and put the miner in so the 20" dimension is front to back? Yeah, the fans wouldn't be facing in optimal directions, but it might work.

not sure they can do that make a 18-19 inch rack mountable unit due to with or length of mobo.

the wire shelf systems  with 24 inch wide 14 inch deep 72 inch tall look perfect.

I would have like a better cpu  and maybe linux instead of a patch windows 10 still all in all really nice piece of gear.

Todays' price is 2180  + shipping and that includes a psu

with BTC rising  this a pretty good price.

27653  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Review of Panda Miner coming up. on: January 04, 2017, 04:48:49 PM
Are you able to use the MSI afterburner to change the voltage or frequency? I think the power consumption is pretty high.

the linux build which I don't have access to can save more power.

as of now  the oem windows build has limits and I am more gear orientated then software skilled.

So I am  taking my time  until I make a backup copy.

Since it uses the old master I had to order a 64gb  which arrives on thur.  which I have 2 mSata suds that  work I will be more aggressive.

can you show me a 6 gpu rx 480 doing   1290h  and 780 watts

this is a 8 gpu rx 480 doing 1720 h and 1060 watts  at zcash

running in a 93f garage

As for eth  it was doing 237mh at 1170 watts ran for 6 hours in a 95f garage then crashed.
So for now I am mining zec  as I am saving watts.

The only way it could be better is if you didn't hate Windows so much.  Tongue
I don't use windows at all - so no idea what you are referring to.
That was my point.  Tongue
If you think I should write windows programs, then no, no chance of that - I don't do that.
I'll leave that to you to do since you want it.

I need an OS that's reliable and isn't under control of a company who shuts it down whenever they feel like it and track everything you do so that someone can write a virus to look at all your key logs and typed passwords etc etc

I could also point out to you that Avalon and Bitmain miners don't use windows either ...
A proxy needs to keep running under your control, not under some companies control that decides your proxy can be shutdown when they feel like it ...

I am and never was a big windows fan.

I was not paid back on this.

all in all this was a crash and burn company.

the co-op  had around  20-22 rounds   of sales.

I did well on some and lost on some.

They are gone.

Some advice only  use gear in your home if you can't afford a loss.

Almost everyone of these companies  turned out badly.

Hashnest run by bitmain  is one of the few winners.

I don't know of many more then them.
27656  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience is now dabbling with 16nm ASICs for new designs on: January 04, 2017, 03:32:13 PM
The profile is a different size, because 2Pac heatsinks are on the other side. It's a 2-sided build with the ASICs on the backside (like the S5 or Avalon6) so the heatsink is mounted there. Doing that allowed me to keep the PCB/heatsink area the same (same overall height and board width) because I could put all the node-level components topside. The heatsink fins will also be about 2mm taller than the standard Compac heatsink. The green ones pictured are Compac leftovers I redrilled for prototyping, but the 2Pac heatsinks will be slightly different (and, unfortunately, not anodized a sweet color).

will they be bare naked aluminum sliver color?

If so I like that color
27657  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My new ZEC + XMR+ ETH thread builds info links thoughts and photos. on: January 04, 2017, 03:23:05 PM
I don't want the thread to be sidetracked any more by windows 10 activation discussion .

The gear comes with  windows 10 and it was altered to  windows 10 enterprise LTSB

which is allowed by microsoft.  in fact they give the information on their own website.

Windows enterprise is need to do   8 cards.

and windows won't sell you a 1 pc code for a windows 10 you switched to windows enterprise using the info given to you from microsoft

ONCE AGAIN I AM ASKING WINDOWS/MICROSOFT TO SELL ME A 1 PC CODE.

IF THEY DON'T LET ME BUY THE CODE BUT LET ME CHANGE MY WINDOWS 10 FROM PRO TO ENTERPRISE LTSB   THAT IS WINDOWS /

MICROSOFT'S CHOICE.

To further clarify this..  the  code give on microsoft's website only works on a good copy of windows 10. As per the info on microsoft's website.

So as far as I am concerned I am fine with this arrangement.  If Microsoft  has a problem  once again I am willing to pay them  for a 1 pc key.

No more questions on the software.

Some more on the hard ware.

the stock psu uses only 220-240 volts  it pulls 4.5 amps  or 1080 watts doing   1715 h

the evga 1600 g2 uses 110-240 volts it pulls  4.3 amps or 1032 watts doing 1715h

have you tried activating as pro and then using instructions to switch over to enterprise?

I won't do this until I clone the oem msata.

I am not looking to brick  the oem msata.

Once i have a clone I can afford to play with the  cloned copy.

I will almost certainly  go to linux with this item rather then deal with windows.

as a gear related item  I found a link for the exact fan included with this pc.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIAAES3YE9135

costly and not needed  as I think this one will do with zec and xmr

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835132031

I ordered 2 of the bgears from newegg.  I will pull one delta and put in 1 bgear

the second bgear and the pulled delta will be sound tested at 12 volts

if there is a good improvement in noise I will order more of the bgear fans

the case uses 9 fans

 5 push and 4 pull

so buying 9 fans = $120 or so.

not looking to spend that much.

I may get 5 and use them to push .

What is the difference between a normal PC motherboard compared to this Panda "PCI switch" based motherboard?

It's fancier and smaller Smiley

Does it use laptop memory?

but this psu an i5  is 281 list

 http://ark.intel.com/products/85212/Intel-Core-i5-5200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_70-GHz

27659  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: My new ZEC + XMR+ ETH thread builds info links thoughts and photos. on: January 04, 2017, 01:37:03 PM

     Coin Price                    Profit
ZEC = $50.06      =      $4.79/day per Rig
ETH =   $9.73      =      $6.41/day per Rig
XMR = $15.82      =      $5.96/day per Rig
BTC = $1021.67   =      $11.00/day per S9

I am still seeing ETH as the most profitable for Rigs and S9 for BTC.

Indeed - for rx 4x0 cards ETH/ETC are the best coins

I have the 7970, so ZEC is the best.

yeah I have a hd7970 for sale and it has 3gb ram  so it is better with zec

It does 185 h at stock   it is power hungry  but makes a good little space heater

Maybe Helios would be willing to setup a donation address to fund his Pandaminer OS build and ROM's project?Huh

I'm really thinking very hard about this.

I have some idea's though.

Will first test further and see if everythign remains stable. So far so good.

Greetings!

yeah  I certainly would want to send a donation or help in any way you can come up with

to sell the linux os
