2782  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin price for January on: January 01, 2014, 02:24:31 PM
Wait until April before selling. We are in slow months and according to last year, April must be a good profitable month.
Don't sell for a loss, the price is not going up or down at the moment and long term it has a good chance of going TO DA MOON!.
2783  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin posts record annual gain: 5,317% in 2013 on: January 01, 2014, 02:21:51 PM
I do get wet dreams thinking of BTC hitting that value Smiley
Keep cool , bro

I will keep cool and HODL but if $10k is hit in 2014 and I hold until 2020 with equal gains I start seeing these kinds of pictures  Cool

2784  Other / Beginners & Help / HAPPY NEW YEAR! on: January 01, 2014, 02:14:13 PM
Hello Newbies,

Once I was newbie too (not too long ago). Just want to welcome you all at bitcointalk!!!

Hope you all invest in the wonderous world of Bitcoin either by buying or supporting Bitcoin through BTC utilities and market adoption.
As anyone joining Bitcoin are all still considered early adopters I hope you all get good profits in 2014.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!!

You can use this thread to congratulate each other and hopefully get out of your newbie status Smiley.

Kind Regards,
Wilhelm

We're talking about percentages here so take into account that 100% in 2014 would be way more money than in previous years.
I know we have exponential growth so it should be possible but I don't want to get hopes up to high like many on this forum.

I'm joining T. Stuart in his low estimate but I'm going for a low 500% gain.
Don't think we will hit the $10k but I do get wet dreams thinking of BTC hitting that value Smiley

My safe estimate gives a fantastic value for oncoming years and my price change is as follows
- 500% per year
- including halving of blocks in 2016 (resulting in doubling of price)

Making the following ballpark figures
2014  $700
2015  $3500
2016  $17500
2017  $175000
2018  $875000
2019  $4375000
2020  $21875000
No more bitcoins so $21M would be the stabilization value per bitcoin.
$21M hmmm the number 21 again hehehehe Cheesy

Looking at this "safe" estimate I still find the 2020 figure of $21M pretty high Smiley
This would make you 31250% on your money in 6 years Smiley
2788  Economy / Speculation / Re: Your thoughts on when BTC will reach $1000 again? on: December 31, 2013, 04:02:06 PM
A "bubble" imo is a positive price movement when there is nothing to back it up anymore.
You can get into a cascading effect where the price is driven sky-high because people are investing in it because the prices are going sky-high turning the whole thing into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Only when a person or a group, which have a big enough share, figure out that the price is utter bullshit and pull out (or no new investors want in) does the "bubble" "pop". Due to the fact that the price plummets and everyone already knew that the price was bullshit, will everyone start making a run for the exit driving the price into a crash.

With bitcoin it is hard to tell if we are in a "bubble". The price is based on a tekst string and has no usable value, this is equal to fiat where the paper itself has no real value. Is the euro a bubble, is the dollar a bubble? these questions are equally hard to answer. If fiat can survive bitcoin most certainly will survive since nobody controls it. Some virtual coins will therefore become strong like euro's or dollars in fiat-land and others will become virtual Zimbabwian dollars which are completely worthless.

It's all about trust and acceptance and only time will tell which will survive. As we know from historic events like VHS vs Betamax we know that it is not always the best that wins.

Are we in a bubble? Nobody knows. Does it feel like a bubble? Not to me but who am I.
2789  Economy / Speculation / Re: India is officialy out of Bitcoin for the foreseeable future on: December 31, 2013, 08:20:52 AM
About India I don't understand the problem.

Let's say I'm an indian and want into bitcoin.
What's stopping me from putting money into an exchange using an overseas money order or paypal or whatever?
What can the Indian government do to stop me?

I can understand that using bitcoin in everyday life won't be possible but as an investment it could be viable.

Just my 2 cents...

I guess it is the easiest way to discourage average people and limit public interest on this new devil technology. It's called "Prohibitionism" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prohibitionism)
Rich will find a way to use it they really want, the rest will ignore it

Thank you. This means that Bitcoin will be a richpeople toy Cheesy

2792  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dreams affecting investment decisions. on: December 31, 2013, 12:07:35 AM
A lots of recent bitcoiners are fully aware of the early adopters and how they have made fortunes relative to their initial investment. The key here is those early investors put down small sums which were basically fliers on the potential of a nice return. More recent investors are not in this same position. They should be limiting their investment to the same dollar figure they would have been willing to commit if they had come across bitcoin in 2010-2011, NOT "If I had bought 1000 bitcoins in 2010 I'd be rich, time to buy 1000 bitcoins to make up for that missed opportunity." Going from $1 to $800 is WAY different than $800 to $6400.

You have two types of investors. Those who invest sensibly with money they can afford and those who are gamblers and go all in.
2793  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin Market Psychology For Dummies: What to Expect in 2014 on: December 30, 2013, 10:56:26 PM
I heard it from a guy who knew about it since 2009.
He told me about it and I was interested, it was April this year. I thought Bitcoin was a great idea and the system looked sound to me.
A coworker and me said well why not buy one or two and see what happens. He never bought any.
Another coworker said we we're nuts and would never make a profit. He later came to my desk to admit he was completely wrong.

To make a long story short I ended up buying two videocards and mining 2 BTC. I was the only one in bitcoin at work.
Bitcoin went up and I made a good profit and invested more since I had made enough on the two BTC to cover losses if bitcoin would go sour on me.

Now I've got quite some BTC and the guy who told me about BTC has now only got himself just over 1 BTC. He could have bought in the $2 time period.

The point in this story is that sometimes you just need to take a chance and have faith and make a sensible investment even though it looks like your too late.
I truely believe that 2 years from now I will be bashing my head in why I didn't buy more when it was under $1000.

2014 is going to be a glorious year for bitcoin. It might not go to $10000 but I am grateful for every $ it will climb.
2014 will bring more shops and businesses to bitcoin from around the globe making it more and more a replacement for fiat.
