Only in the USA is synthetic cheese-like garbage called "American cheese". The rest of the world calls it "process cheese".

Aren't words fun?  Cheesy

maybe youre thinking of what is actually labeled "cheese food" or something like that for the fake stuff here in the usa.

food labels have gotten better in the usa but they still mislead as much as possible.

afaik the asics all used cgminer by -ck and any docs to run it would be in cgminers readme. pretty sure the latest cgminer still can run them. now im curious and will probably fire the jally up.

if its their fpga i might still have the flasher and bitstreams kicking around.

I don't remember BFL using cgminer, I thought the BFL crew had Luke do the mining software, wasn't it just a branded BFGminer?  I never owned a BFL miner so maybe my brain is playing tricks on me.

now that you mention it they (BFL ASICS) were supported by both cgminer (-ck) and bfgminer (luke-jr). one is a fork of the other. i always used cgminer though.

there was (maybe still is) quite the war as to who forked who.

cant remember what the FPGA used, but i think that was cgminer too. the only software i remember for thier FPGA was a program to load different bitstreams.. i ran the second to highest speed one but needed to run it with no case and a 120mm blowing on it or it throttled.

now that i have fpgas again (sqrl acorns and bcu1525) i feel the strange urge to get the bfl fpga running again just for the lulz.

2785  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: How long is the lifespan of the hardware wallet? on: March 09, 2019, 12:09:41 PM
trezor after fire and water damage. still worked iirc.

https://imgur.com/gallery/Z2eUs

i know theres a post on reddit about it, search "veterinarian house fire trezor" this was not me btw.

but the main takeaway: KEEP SEED WORDS SAFE. several places, at least one completely off site.

i transfer funds from old to new hardware wallets (or same hardware wallet with new seed) every so often. and until the new seed for the wallet is redundantly, securely safe i am paranoid of funds being lost via loss of device, disaster or device failure with no access to the seeds (seed loss is maybe due to stupidity/fire/cant remember where they are kept etc)

another takeaway: VERIFY THE SEEDS and DO A DRY RECOVERY RUN on the device. you need to be absolutely sure you can recover via seed, so practice the procedure.

EDIT: i have one of the early trezors, from 2013 i think. still works fine. and im not gentle with it. YMMV

I don't get it why anyone is even willing to pay that $55 and get 215+ when the miner isn't even out, yet
Let the sw come out and then do the upgrade? What's the hurry?

well IF the software ever arrives i would like to have the replacement already in hand to run on day one of the release.

dunno how long this whole 101 swapout thing will take (days? weeks?) but if i had a lot of (or perhaps only) 101s i sure wouldnt be happy that everyone else is mining away while my 101s sit around till the swap finishes.

so i am glad the swap came 1st.

worse comes to worse now ill have three matching paperweights instead of two 215+s and an oddball 101.

2787  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: March 08, 2019, 12:22:45 PM
options were $15 for a 215, $35 to a 215+. add $20 for shipping. and they will be cross shipped.
Fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice...  they should be upgrading for free.  ESP after the launch this company had.  Typical of crypto tho.   Now trying to save face because they knew the original device wouldn’t do what they purported them to do.  All theory.  They basically did sell you a paper weight.  They then used that money to build them the real product.  Aren’t we all tired of being made out as suckers yet???

Br

i hear ya. but ive got around a grand tied up in acorms and nests, so whats an extra $55.

sure i think this is wrong on one level, the 101 upgrade should be free. and i thought there was going to be a special 215 model that the 101 could trade to. speced out somewhat under a standard 215.

i would have done it like so:

101 to "special edition" 215 - free, including free shipping.
101 to 215 and 215plus - ok add a bit for trades like that.

i think they (they = someone i have no remembrance of who or if they are connected to sqrl) said those who keep the 101s may have some sort of special, one time support algo boost on something but no later updates for it.

but again i just see bits and pieces from discord so take all that i say with a grain of salt.

once i have the upgraded part ill post.

and sure this reeks of some sort of exit strategy. but at least this is much more classy. for whats THATs worth.

not yet.

been rumors that the miner wont be out till the 101 tradein program is done. there were other rumors that the miner will be released, then the 101 trade in.

but seems the trade in is happening now, before the miner. i have my email from them, i elected to trade my 101 for a 215+

options were $15 for a 215, $35 to a 215+. add $20 for shipping. and they will be cross shipped. EDIT or not cant remember where i saw that.

haven't paid yet, just verified shipping addy and phone number.

strike that i now have an invoice and order number. they will give the payment addy later today.
2789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2019, 12:51:52 PM

seems untenable really.

but. i did look around the site. no taxable event moving a coin there (or out i presume?). interest paid in same crypto as deposit. 1099 tax form sent with interest made for tax purposes. so you are taxed only on the interest. not sure how they figure that in USD when interest was in btc..

if you dont mind losing it, might be worth a play (for some). 1 btc or 45 eth minimum.

of course "not you keys not your btc."

risky but if you dont mind losing it all it might be appealing to some. as it would earn 6% that the btc in yer cold wallet doesnt.

nice, till you lose 100% of it. ooops

I follow one simple rule. I never do any "business" with anyone if I don't understand their business model and exactly know how THEY are profiting in the dealing. As I can't see here how they could profit from it it's a no-go for me.

agree.

i glanced briefly at the loan stuff that seems to enable this 6%. for loans, seems a lotta collateral needed and its current value compared to the remaining load amount is constantly reevaluated and may need additional collateral or payments at any time. and its high interest, but i dont remember the amount.

didnt really try running numbers (interest paid vs loans income) as im not that interested. maybe someone else could see if its even remotely possible with the numbers they give.

https://bitcoinist.com/gemini-backed-bitcoin-interest-account/

6.2% annual interest for a Bitcoin account sounds appealing. The idea is good and may attract many investors. But what if BlockFi turns out to be the new Bitconnect? Who cares that it is backed by Gemini?Any thoughts on this?

seems untenable really.

Let me see if I can describe what I mean by basic level entry level "fuck you-ness."

[...]

I was referring to "fuck you" as a personal statement and not a statement of wanting to create some kind of an extra self-fulfilling project.. that is like an additional layer of luxury that goes beyond the basics and is personal to you, and would not be within the entry level of "fuck you" status that I had been attempting to outline and conceive at the "any person" level.

ah. that explains our difference.

my "fuckyou" point is like state tax too high and regulation written like 4 years olds did it? fuck you state. sell/move everything: pick any state like thats less greedy/restrictive to move and just go.

weathers too cold? fuck you weather. hey i hear halfway round the planet is nice this time of year; instant 4-6 month vacation traveling the warmer climates.

someones properties has trees or structures that block your otherwise awesome view of nature? fuck you folks* name a price to sell your properties. ok here you go. ya got 3 months and then my crew comes in to make a more pleasant view for ourselves and our cats to look at.

* i would be more polite of course.

etc
2792  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2019, 11:30:38 AM
$2500000/$3860=648 BTC, only probably two-five thou people have that worldwide.
At 19780/btc it was 126 btc.
How times change.

These USD price levels don't currently support true "Fuck You Money" status, for dolphins, at least.

It's more "Hey, uhh, like, leave me alone. Dickhead" money.

yup

OK, one million? for one person middle age or older maybe it could be done but a millions bucks is nothing like what it once was. but with good planning and a restrained financial lifestyle i could be done. ration those "fuckyous" though, you wont have many.

to me 5 million USD is the ABSOLUTE LEAST amount where anyone can start to ignore most things and live passively the rest of their life. limited "fuckyou" stuff though.

25  mill USD? now yer talking. but keep going..

50 mil? ok thats decent,  pretty nice "fuckyou" allocation reached.

100 million.. THATS "fuckyou money

2793  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 07, 2019, 01:00:48 AM
~330.. ~650..

??

man the numbers im thinking of are considerably higher.. like at least 10k btc. as in $40 million USD. as a starting number.

am i THAT decadent?

i SUPPOSE i could deal with 10 million USD, so 2.5k btc. but man thats gonna cramp my style and really limit who i can say "fuckyou" to.

EDIT: using $4,000 USD to make maths easier

There isn't enough bitcoin for all of today's millionaires to own an entire bitcoin each.

We won't call them millionaires anymore though, they will be known as "wholecoiners".

Nice! And "multicoiners" if double digits.  Grin

I think that three or more meets the definition of multi-,but hey what do I know.  Double digits is some way higher levels, that's for sure.  The 21 club is becoming more and more prestigious, too.

heres to all of us reaching "fuckyoucoiner" levels.

That sounds like a poll in the making. "How many coins does it take to reach fuckyoucoiner levels?"

sounds good to me. im curious as to the numbers myself.
2795  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: March 06, 2019, 09:54:50 PM
yeah anyone thinking of buying acorns just wait till the miner comes out to see what the real deal is.

BTW the emails offering to trade cle-101s up to 215 or 215+ has been sent. as the 101s are no longer supported.

if you did buy (or now somehow have) a cle-101 and did not get the email contact support@squirrelsresearch.com

This may be the last chance for the average person to acquire a full bitcoin and that title.

I get horrified and scared any time I see you guys talking about $100K or even $30K as if it was a SURE thing. What kind of capitulation is this?

for the guys thinking one million, 30k-100k is capitulation.

ooh congrats to bones and LFC for becoming default trust members
we call you Sir now?
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5117330.0

No need to call me sir. But thanks for the congratulations. I just had one of my fans open up a thread about me in reputation. My fan even gave me a rave review and thinks I'm like delectable horse apples.

err wait, im now thinking maybe "default trust" isnt what i think it is..

if im wrong i dont think i wanna know either.

Oh wow, I get uncomfortable accepting congrats to be honest. I get a bit embarrassed. Thanks to everybody who put me in their custom trust list. I guess this means you’re now DT2? I have you in my trust list mate.

I will go to my grave without a fucking clue about how this trust shite works or makes the world a better place. I would not be capable of comprehending it even if you stuck in me in Cerebro with a Ritalin dildo up me.

yup only use ive had for it is when ive bought hardware from a forum member.

even then using escrow is best, unless of course youre buying goods from a respected escrow person to begin with.
