281  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: rig turns off after ~15minutes on: May 18, 2013, 06:36:57 AM
...you wouldn't happen to have some power saving feature enabled that automatically powers down your computer when it's not in use would you?

This is what sent me mad for a day and nearly resulted in an RMA of the GPU! Check it!
282  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Asic chip Mini USB miner [Post if interested] on: May 17, 2013, 02:18:36 PM

You probably need the buy the chips first and send them over to the assemblers.

I fail to see why no one wants to supply like you know, a FINISHED WORKING PRODUCT?!

 Tongue

Because the people designing the USB miner (allten, bkkcoin) don't have the BTC to make the minimum 10,000 chip order from Avalon?

Anyway there are so many threads on the front page which will allow you to find the chip suppliers, designers and assemblers.

Hm yeah it's just a pain and who do you go to if the product explodes, doesn't turn on or fails after minutes? Likely left with no comeback so I'll be waiting for something that is as close to plug and play/verified working as possible.

Especially seeing the state some of the Avalon miners are arriving in, not sure if I'd trust ordering chips straight from them!

i bought 120mm recommended fans ... and they have a 4 pin connector ... how the heck am i going to connect them to the boards ?

Wire strippers?
284  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What does everyone think of these miner rental sites? on: May 17, 2013, 02:06:48 PM
Yeah Sad looking at it now I can understand it better, it's a shame because if someone made legit versions of this it would do very well I suspect.

What taking 3 day loans then giving away some of their mining profits? What would be the point.
285  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: BFL is shipping on: May 17, 2013, 02:04:06 PM
With all these questions, and all these concerns.  Do we have a Bitcoin miner that's near their Location.  Just go and see.  If I was closer, I'd go get some answers for sure!   Grin

Already happened and they didn't see much. Has led to accusations of a dog n pony show.
286  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Question About Lowering Power Limit % in MSI Afterburner on: May 17, 2013, 02:03:08 PM
I'm currently running 2 Gigabyte Radeon HD 7950's and I have an issue with temperature in the upper tier card. The lower card can run at max speed (about 630 MH/s) and never touch 80°C but the upper card will blast over 80° (and even 90° if I let it) at much lower settings.

I've tried various cgminer configs and have my memclock down as low as it will go in MSI (though I haven't managed to get it to reduce lower by closing and re-opening MSI as some have suggested). The only way I've found to keep the upper card stable and around 80°C is to set the Power Limit % to -15 on that card. That seems to do the trick, but of course runs the card at ~300 MH/s.

My questions is: Until I get a better cooling system for the upper card (which is on order), am I doing any damage to the card by running it at -15% power? Insticntively it seems like that should be okay, but I thought I'd run it by your folks in case I'm missing something.

All the card is doing is clocking itself down - the 300Mhash isn't due to reduced power - its the reduced clocks. Run at lower speeds where you can keep it below 85.

Personally I run at 1085/1500 and -20 power, doesn't seem to affect me, still 88 degrees though! :S
287  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Work in progess] Burnins Avalon Chip to mining board service on: May 17, 2013, 01:00:48 PM
Guys, just a query that was raised on another thread concerning the EU WEEE directive. It affects all manufactured and imported electrical goods in the EU (where Burnin' is located.) Someone asked whether it concerns component parts, and I dug this up;

Q. Are component parts of electrical equipment considered to be EEE?

A. Components cover the range of discrete items that form part of a finished product and thus enable it to work properly, for example transistors, capacitors, diodes or internal wiring. Sub-assemblies are packages of components assembled into discrete units, such as display panels or populated circuit boards. Components and sub-assemblies supplied for further manufacture or assembly are not finished products and are therefore not considered to be EEE in their own right.

So the chips are fine, and say Burnin's empty pcb boards, but not 100% on if Burnin's completed boards are. I guess though without a power supply they come under 'populated sub-assembly's' and may be ok...?

Technically do they require any 'further manufacture', and do you reckon buying a PSU comes under further manufacture? Because if not, you may have a problem...

Further manufacture would include casing it, but not plugging in a power supply.

So if these are sold as a DIY 'sub assembly', add your own case etc it should be fine.  Maybe ask a company like sparkfun and the like who sell kits and populated boards.
288  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Mining only namecoins on: May 17, 2013, 12:55:58 PM

Is it possible? Or do I have to mine bitcoin and get namecoin with it ?

Doesn't seem much point when you can merge mine and get both at the same rate as if you were only doing one.
289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] CNC2 The Chinese High Quality Coin on: May 17, 2013, 12:55:04 PM
Hehehehe, gotcha!!!! Ya'llz bn looking for a new coin all day huh? Nothing here!!!  Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

After "Lolicoin"  and "Feathercoin2", it's hard to shock us anymore! - Chinacoin2 seems entirely possible. Don't joke about it it might become true in a few days ...

Ha yeah I saw the same thing with the views on "FC3" was ridiculous!
290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC 200% profitable? on: May 17, 2013, 12:52:29 PM
Why, according to this site mining TRC is so profitable?

Difficulty changes every 15 mins or something stupid low like that iirc.

Chose a coin you think will go up in price, mine it, stop chasing single day profitability.
291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinChoose - alternative site to show respective profitability of the alt coins on: May 17, 2013, 12:20:29 PM
I'd wager a lot of CoinChoose users couldn't care less about the fate of any altcoins. They only want as much bitcoins as possible, and then some more.

And that's the problem and the reason FTC is having major hashing power issues. I see what you mean and even share the sentiment, I just wish it wasn't so easy for everybody to be profiteering and rinsing the alts! Used to be limited to just the cleverer people Tongue
292  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Dark Shadow Creeping Over Our Forums - limitless on: May 17, 2013, 12:18:54 PM
this is why we need to have different passwords and account names for every pool you join, for everything. some poolop could be legit for months and months and build great rep, and suddenly seize every single account he can from pool logins/pws.

One tip if you really really can't remember multiple passwords - use a base one with the first/second letter of the website you're on added to the end!

No way, don't do this for any site that contains important data. Use completely different passwords.

Well its far better than using the same one for everything like some do! I personally have extra numbers and symbols scattered around in most of my passes but have a little book for when I inevitably forget some of em!
293  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Are current generation ASICs SHA256(SHA256(x)) implementations? on: May 17, 2013, 12:16:19 PM
That doesn't tell me if the ASIC hardware does SHA256(SHA256(x)) or if it is SHA256(x) twice.

Yes it does.  You must have missed the part where it said  "dhash(a) = sha256(sha256(a))"

Okay let me rephrase my question, is it possible for the ASIC hardware to just do SHA256(x) instead of SHA256(SHA256(x))?

AFAIK neither. You cant use the ASIC to compute SHA256(x) OR SHA256(SHA256(x)) . A lot of the logic is inside the chip. Basically it gets the data similar to bitcoin protocol, and runs a loop to find the right nonce. The chip itself wont return the generated hashes. Also, the accepted size of "x" would probably be only the exact size used in bitcoin protocol. So I think your quest to find alt purpose is in vain.

That's good IMO, I had a bad feeling about 5Ghash+ password crackers being released into the wild with no oversight.
294  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Official CedarTec Topic - New ASIC [Scam?] on: May 17, 2013, 12:14:01 PM
is that doll house photoshopped or actually made? Because I am so buying one to decor my office with <3

You must be tiny! Grin

Don't think he wanted to use it AS his office, lophie go down the second hand store and get a VCR or two you should be able to make quite a good one!
295  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does CPU affect how many GPUs you can run? on: May 17, 2013, 12:09:43 PM
BTW I've seen people running multiple FPGA off a Raspberry Pi which is ARM so really there isn't any limitation for CPU.  On that 1155 Celeron (G550 I believe) it runs between 1-3 cpu utilization.

Only thing with the Rpi is that USB bandwidth can be an issue and it eats into CPU time just to organise the USB stack iirc. This was an issue with soundcards at least.

As for a real cpu - anything should be ok. I run a core i3 clocked down to 1.33GHz and with only one core turned on, my PSU switches itself off otherwise Tongue
296  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Asic chip Mini USB miner [Post if interested] on: May 17, 2013, 12:06:06 PM
Sweet would buy if the price inclusive Vat under 2 BTC

Even sweeter would buy if the price inclusive Vat under 0.2 BTC.

If not massively overpriced I reckon the price will be in fiat for these. ASICminer doesn't have to worry about btc prices since they're overcharging SO much in the first place!

298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: CoinChoose - alternative site to show respective profitability of the alt coins on: May 17, 2013, 12:00:07 PM
Anyone else reckon that although useful, sites like these are detrimental to the ideal of crypto-coins, it really shouldn't all be about the profit margins.... If someone is mining for a business then they should really be able to work out profitability themselves.
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [Most profitable coin] Mining WDC is 2.9x more profitable than LTC on: May 17, 2013, 11:11:31 AM
So what are ideal mining settings? I know I need something to compensate for 15 sec blocks but cant remember the command/boot arguments.
300  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon Asic chip Mini USB miner [Post if interested] on: May 17, 2013, 10:24:49 AM
Need to get a method of mass producing these, I'd take 5 at least!

KCC can hopefully get 592 done, or find resources. Still probably gonna need to find more chips with the interest coming in.

Is there any official way of registering interest or getting in a queue? I don't want to miss out on these due to not checking the forums every day!
