Hey Guyver. I do apologize for having not sorted out shipping details yet. I went to the post office yesterday and got lots of information. I will be making up a table soon. Basically it will be based on weight and shipping type (tracking, express etc). I have been saying $50 - $100 to people as a generic approximate quote worldwide. It is not clear at prices for the chips.
We managed to buy chips at the old price? Or do we have to pay extra?
The remaining chips for this group buy are set. We have the reel locked in at the old price. Future reels however will cost more. |

Just looking at the first page info again, you mention installing the hashing board into a pc case. For this, do you have any particular slot in mind? 5.25 3.5 pcie etc? Also, do you know the approximate size (I may already have space for it, therwise I'll know what to expect.)

A single Drillbit Board will fit in a 3.5 inch hard drive slot. You can also stick it into a spare pci slot (just to hold it there, not for connectivity) |

Exciting that we're almost there on the chip order. Looking good for this to happen smoothly (fingers crossed). We have been considering a second chip reel, but i just found out the new prices and they have gone up dramatically, so it's not really doable. We are really lucky we got the chips for the price we did. They are around 270% the price now. We would have to put the prices up a lot for a second reel, so probably just sticking to the one. Only 800 to go!
Why did they put the price up? Most ASIC prices are coming down with gen 2 stuff on the way. Surely that much increase will kill the ROI. I'm not sure really. It seems crazy to me. It means we would have to charge a lot more for a second run, probably making it not viable. A real shame. |

What's the thought or plans for the future given you've clearly put a good amount of effort into making the boards stackable with various backplanes?
Is it only 'we did this to enable people to purchase multiple boards on this order', or perhaps 'we plan to offer opportunities to purchase more compatible boards throughout the year that have BitFury chips', or 'we see opportunities to keep providing compatible boards even if we have to switch chip sources', or (ominous music) 'we did this to get someone else to fund our own super-massive scalable mining rig, MWahaha!' :-)
Seriously, I can only put in for one board now (and have done so). But all the people commenting that they've placed multiple orders made me think: Should I be totally discounting the stackable nature because it will be useless for anything in the future? And, should I sell body parts to go for a second or more board now because I won't be able to get one later?
Hey Dav Good questions. Hopefully this little spiel will answer you. We are intending to continue this project into the future beyond this specific group buy. Initially the plan was to continue producing Bitfury based boards for as long as it is viable and then seek out a new chip source to implement a new version of the Drillbit System to accommodate next Gen chips. This is still the plan, but it is looking at this point like one reel of Bitfuries is as far as we will go with Bitfury. The main reason for this being that prices has risen dramatically on the Bitfury chips. If we did move into a second reel, we would have to put the prices up a lot. When we get to that point i will put it out there to people and see if there is a response, and hell, maybe we will do a second reel at raised prices. If we can gather the funds before October we can get both reels at the same time. This would be a plus for sure. It really depends on whether people are willing to pay the new prices. If that ends up not eventuating, from there we will focus our efforts on gear based on new chips. I am making investigations, buts its still too early to tell what might be available and when. I know thats all a bit off the topic, but also not really.  All the hardware is designed to be upgradeable. The intention is that next gen boards will be able to plug into your existing system. Now, there is a massive disclaimer on this, and that is basically that we can't guarantee comparability until we know what the next chip is all about. Best case scenario it just slots in and happily coexists with your existing boards, worst case is that the old and the new boards won't be able to go on the same miniplane. But either way, the miniplane will work with new boards. New chip based boards will be designed with the same basic technology as the existing boards, just modified for the new chips. So yes, your Drillbit System will continue to be relevant and expandable beyond this group buy. Exactly how it will work is yet to be determined. It all depends on whats next, but whatever it is, we're going to do our best to get our hands on them and get them out there for you. Barntech |

Too bad the chips wont arrive before october with this speed lol After the Avalon (Yifu) scam, October sounds beautiful (but I hear you). An yes, the difficulty is getting higher, but if we get the boards in late October, they can be profitable for a few months. And who knows how long if the price jumps up. Yeah I was actually looking at either BFL chips or Avalon before I found out about BitFury and this thread. But i couldn't find any BFL group buys nor did I want to build a board using THAT much power. And Avalon was too slow but the price was nice until I found out batch #3 was canceled so I scrapped those ideas and went back to looking at FPGA's lol. And with that difficulty going up I do feel like the price will raise with this. Hey yes. Exciting that we're almost there on the chip order. It seems your preferred payment method is PayPal, I can do that with difficulty, I like to use Bitcoin, after all that is why we are here, There is a big difference in some of the exchanges lately, how do I determine the exchange rate, Which exchange are you using for a guide?
I currently use bfgminer to mine, will your boards work with that miner?

By all means, go ahead and pay with Bitcoin. Use a rate of 1 BTC = $112 to split the difference between gox and btc-e. Currently, we are building our stuff to work with cgminer. If we have time to work on support for other miners we will, but realistically we will probably just be sticking with cgminer. Shouldn't be too hard a move for you.  Cheers Barntech |

I think thats a bit expensive to be honest. If you are making a large quantity I would have thought $10-15 might be more reasonable if it doesn't come with any components..
You don't have to buy it, you can always go without. Yeah I know. I paid for a fully assembled one the other night. Hey, The $50 blank board price is based on early manufacture quotes which came in quite high. As we are moving towards a full production run, we are starting to get better quotes for larger quantities and should be able to bring the blank board price down in the coming weeks.
