283  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Satoshi Nakamoto should offer a million bitcoin reward on: November 12, 2013, 04:03:10 PM
What is Satoshi doing now? Retired or forging the next big thing?

A country can't just make BTC their currency, quite the absurd thought. On a related note, my government doesn't even accept e-mail.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: scenarios if US Govt tried to take down bitcoin? on: November 12, 2013, 03:27:13 PM
They surely can take down bitcoin but that will be much like taking down Fulltilt/Pokerstars or Silkroad, public attention rises and new ones sprout.
285  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Selling STEAM gifts for bitcoins on: November 10, 2013, 02:53:13 AM
Pretty sure you are in the wrong section.

Better sell before it collapses.

Never sell it will keep booming even harder.

Choose one.

To be a valid block, the hash of the previous block has to be included in the current block.
oh ok thanks.
290  Other / Beginners & Help / Withholding blocks on: November 08, 2013, 10:04:44 PM
So say I find an input which hashes to a difficulty above the current one. Instead of n leading zero I get n+1 or n+2 etc. Does it make sense to withhold the block? Especially if I get a bunch of those, like a mining pool would, they could spam once the difficulty actually does goes up, force another difficulty increase because of that, spam again, etc, until some others are pushed out of profitable mining.

Probably doesn't make sense but yeah I was curious if that thought makes sense.
291  Economy / Speculation / Re: All-time high price? on: November 08, 2013, 02:56:34 AM
USD crashing helps reaching USD ATH
292  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Does this make sense? (Idea to speed up block generation) on: November 07, 2013, 11:38:04 PM
If we were guessing numbers 0-10, double guessing would indeed make it less efficient by a lot. But we are number guessing 0 - 2^265, so avoiding double guessing will be more than negligible if you look at the efficency.

296  Economy / Speculation / Re: calm down everyone on: November 06, 2013, 01:10:52 AM
I should start speculating. I don't believe it's that unpredictable with only a few news sites and few exchanges with open order books.

Thanks for responses.

It will cost you money, and it will make the miners (or mining pools) very happy to collect all those transaction fees from you.
Quote
And you can spam transactions, but if you don't include fees, it will take a lot of time to proceed.
Alright I didnt think about the fees at all. What happens to transactions without / with super low fees? They simply don't get included if the one who mined the block doesn't want to right?

However, these non-blocked transactions must still show up somewhere, like be stored as "please insert me for free" somewhere? Is this still spam-able?

Quote
Unlikely.  Unless the protocol changes, it can't grow by more than 1 megabyte per block.
If there is enough transactions to take up more than 1 MB then what? The block can't take them and transactions stack up?
299  Other / Beginners & Help / Chain Spam on: October 27, 2013, 07:06:10 PM
This is probably discussed and answered somewhere but

Can the chain become too long?

What if I spam transactions? Like send micro payments between millions of my own accounts?

How many places actually need to store the whole chain? I got it downloaded now but it's quite large already and it's probably gonna get longer faster than memory prices drop?!

Thanks
