281  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just bought FBTC in my 401k. First time ever holding crypto for retirement. on: February 11, 2024, 03:26:35 AM
It honeslty can't hurt to diversify your holdings. Of course this is not the same as holding BTC and keeping your own keysl but it is no different than owning stocks or other comparable assets. These ETFs will be a great hedge for investors and prove to be probably one of the best investments or little corners of their portfolio that they wish they always bought more of  Wink
282  Other / Meta / Re: Other Forum members are more civil than Legendary members, Why? on: February 09, 2024, 09:16:22 PM
I mean honestly some of the legendary folks probably do feel more important in a sense and maybe have that cocky or bully persona about them but a very small percentage of these which I have honestly seen my share of as well. I just laugh because it shows their true character an the inability to put a cap on your emotions and others emotions as well.
I don't think not all of them are like that, some of them just really want to get out what they want to say out there and some just don't like it I guess. Bad Legendaries aren't like bad apples anyway, just cause there's someone out there that's diva attitude or feeling like they've got all the power, that don't mean that it's all of them. I don't like the idea of putting cap on emotions, that's weird and robotic dude, I want the conversations to be organic if possible.

I mean like from a thinking logically instead of emotionally in that sense. I mean maybe emotion was not the best word for it I was just trying to he polite. What the OP is really trying to dig at is that he is noticing a trend of rudeness towards other users I suspect. I definitely want conversations to be organic as well.

284  Other / Meta / Re: Methods of Signing your BTC address to prove your identity on: February 08, 2024, 05:33:47 AM
Signing a message as "proof" of ownership of a UID is meaningless as it has been common knowledge for many years that scammers sell accounts which come with a signed message, or one where a wallet address has already been posted.

Wow that is an interesting turn in the discussion. This means that hackers can then probably sell those compromised accounts perhaps at a premium? I wouldn't know this as I don't surf though any dark web postings or use TOR or anything, although I would surely be interested to learn all about it simply for educational purposes. I wonder now if there is any other way than just this to prove you are the owner of a given address? I mean technically someone could post on social media that they own a certain address and that they were going to make a transaction at a certain time at a specified amount and linked to the outgoing wallet or something....
285  Other / Meta / Re: Mixers to be banned on: February 08, 2024, 05:13:53 AM
Binance just announced they are delisting privacy coins included but not limited to, XMR and Zcash.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5484277

If you own any privacy coins on that exchange, the deadline is February 20.

We are slowly getting cornered.

The question is, will theymos ban privacy coins too if the regulatories take action against them? Now, that would be the end of the forum because that would mean banning legit crypto projects, it ain't the same as banning mixers.
How can theymos ban privacy coins even if the regulators take action against them? Bitcointalk doesn't accept XMR or Zcash deposits as well as doesn't offer you XMR or Zcash trading. If regulators ban privacy coins, we won't be able to advertise services that offer exchanges of privacy coins. Discussion about privacy coins will be allowed unless someone starts promoting their usage or offers coin exchange. Why do I say this? Because it will be as simple as it is, drugs are prohibited, banned and illegal but discussion about them is accepted on as famous social networks as Reddit is.

Wow, I mean props to Theymos for being proactive on this, when SINBAD was seized that was a really big deal and I think it mainly hit home and got him thinking about doing this, maybe that was the final nudge. But now with privacy coins being banned its clear that the workaround from the fiat money system is not being tolerated. Theymos was definitely onto this and wants no part in having to deal with any goverment entities if he can help it i'm sure.
286  Economy / Economics / Re: The savings problem on: February 08, 2024, 05:03:17 AM
This is something that isn't being talked about enough today. I just hope people can find some way to adopt accepting bitcoin as a payment so the ones that can't afford to accumulate and save or HODL can at least have some type of strategy for BTC accumulation. I am definitely feeling the pressure from the increase in prices in bidenomics aka make america shitty lmao MAS.... he is catholic right? Lets make the slogan MASS like you're attending a church service and he has a religious obligation to completely screw America lmao. Anyhow, we wouldn't be in this terrible savings situation if it wasn't for good ole' Brandon!  LETS GO BRANDON!
287  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The US Government wants your Bitcoin Miners!? on: February 08, 2024, 04:57:40 AM
Do you think that the US would ever try to ban Bitcoin mining? If this is just on a corporate level then it is true that individual miners are void to this requested information from the US Gov't for now. Maybe some huge regulations are underway for this, but its not the right track for progression of Bitcoin, it would truly be amazing if all countries were to embrace BTC like El Salvador has.

If by some chance I didn't know that everything that is being asked about cryptocurrency miners comes from the US government, I would think that it was about a country where mining was illegal or maybe in a gray zone and that now that government has decided to legalize everything. This is how it turns out that the US authorities did not know anything about what they now want to know, and that they themselves have no mechanisms to find out.

Whether this is just a show for the public or whether some of the anti-Bitcoin politicians managed to lobby for the initiation of such actions remains a question to which we may one day get an answer - but all this reminds me of what happened in China before they decided to ban mining.

[size=7pt
However, I don't think that the US government is so desperate that it would try to increase its budget in such a way that it would try to take something more from crypto miners - well, their annual military budget is greater than the value of all BTC in circulation.

The USD isn't backed by the "good faith and credit of the US Gov't" it is backed by the largest military force in the world with a budget larger than bitcoin  Cool
288  Other / Meta / Re: USE OF CHAT GPT-RULES on: February 08, 2024, 04:42:12 AM
I know that there are probably rules, somewhere that I haven't looked.

There are no official or unofficial rules regarding the use of artificial intelligence on the forum, and this is definitely something that the administration should seriously deal with so that finally even those who seek justifications for using it in an unethical way know what awaits them if they want to go in that direction.

Chat GPT really helps to you skip the learning curve if you know how to use it correctly.

If it helps you understand some things in a faster and simpler way, that's fine for me personally. The problem is those people who use AI to create some content and then present it as their own - and I'm one of those who don't want to interact with robots on this forum.

If we can't avoid it which we definitely can't, that means that Chat GPT is veriy similar to BTC in this aspect lol.
~snip~

I've never used a single AI bot and I don't miss it at all in my life, which means that it can be completely avoided - unless you're under the influence of the mainstream media, which tells you every day that it's something completely normal and inevitable. Comparing AI ChatGPT and Bitcoin really makes no sense...

One thing I will say is that you can choose to not use AI, but you can't choose to not have AI used on you. Also, I do agree with you on how the AI content is shared if it is used. Not giving credit is not okay. I don't blame you for not loving the idea of interacting with robots on the forum but i'm just saying for like a general user guide an section in your account settings help page where there lays an ai chatbot for the forum users that could help with anything they ask about the forum & help searching for certain posts, how to explain to new users how to post images or provide extra tips and tricks. Would that be such a terrible thing?

290  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Privacy Protocols on: February 08, 2024, 03:41:21 AM
Now, the sticking point is that yes, transactions can be followed through the blockchain BUT who/what has ownership of coins cannot be discovered until they are exchanged into fiat or some type of physical goods which can be linked to people & organizations. He wanted to make sure that BTC had that discovery mechanism.
That was so nice of Satoshi Nakamoto. If bitcoin is like monero, it might also not be widely used as it is today. Nearly all countries do not ban bitcoin and the discovery mechanism would be one of the reasons many countries do not ban the coin.

Satoshi understood a lot about privacy and its negative impact. He somehow knew that if Bitcoin's privacy was as completely strong as that of coin like the monero's, it would lead to more illicit activities using Bitcoin.
Exactly. But it is worth knowing that fiat is mostly used for illicit activities today. It is mostly used for money laundry, terrorism financing, ransom and bandits funding etc. So far something is of value and can be easily transfer from one person to another as a money, some people will want to use such thing for illicit activities.

Well I wouldn't say mostly used for illicit activities it is surely used by the entire world basically and is very convenient but in the event that it is used for an illicit purpose it is indeed completely untracable. Bitcoin they can definitely have a much better chance of tracing the owner. In  Cyber insurance policies they also ban the use of XMR the policies will not pay out in any crypto except for Bitcoin.

Great work in quitting and using this as not only an opportunity to better your health but to stack some more SATs in the process! Well done m8. This is not an easy thing to do, keep up the good fight and don't let in to your temptation. Just remember cigarette money now = Bitcoin Money and more bitcoin holdings.  Cool Cool Cool
292  Other / Meta / Re: Methods of Signing your BTC address to prove your identity on: February 07, 2024, 02:51:40 AM
Here is what Chat GPT said about this topic
FYI: this is where I stopped reading, and clicked Ignore. How to lose all credibility 101.

This is where I stopped too.

OP, this is one of the basic things. You don't need deep knowledge to understand how to sign a message using your Bitcoin wallet address. You don't have to ask ChatGPT or any other AI about it since they do not have knowledge about it and most of the time, these AI gives incorrect information. You can sign a message with your wallet address if you want. Electrum has the most friendly user interface from where you can sign/verify messages. I don't understand what you want to know about it. Just ask questions to humans. There no potential risks in signing a message with your wallet address.

Yeah I went back and re-read that and somehow some of what I said got deleted because I was on my phone and maybe fell asleep while editing or maybe a pocket edit when I was posting on my phone maybe? idk lmao. I went on to say at the part where it breaks and "curi" was never fully spelled out. Anyhow I went on to say that I had never signed a bitcoin transaction before and I had never known how this process works and I wanted to guage how Chat GPT answered this and get the opinion of the community. But anyhow I was just being lazy lol I really hadn't ever signed one before so I didn't know but I did a little research and I can see now there are verificaiton websites.

What I don't like is the handling of one's private keys. In this day and age there are so many potential devices that can capture a picture of anythng containing your PK I just don't trust it. Other than proving that you own a bitcoin address which is how someone could prove they are satoshi for example, right? I don't really see the benefit here and i'd be willing to wager that some folks lost all their holdings in a wallet where they messed up this process somewhere???. I feel ike a lot can happen in the time you are handling your private keys. Anything inputing your private keys into anywhere you have to 1000% certain that you are secure and fully offline. Definitely loved learning this, a huge oversight on my part but all the more reason to love this technology more and the detailed thought that Satoshi put into every little part of it.

What I am curio

There will never ever be another 1st crypto currency EVER, Bitcoin is the one and the only! Okay I will say Ethereum is good too. Monero is cool. XRP shit I think honestly has a chance. But Bitcoin is and without question will alway be the #1 coin! I don't every see anything overtaking it or dropping it from its place. I just don't.

297  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Crazy week. I lost a dear friend and I lost my job on: February 04, 2024, 06:56:28 AM
Its almost a year to the day of originally posting this and I just want to say that there is a light at the end of the tunnels!!

One year ago I had so much happen so quickly - and it was a very long and testing roller coaster of a year 2023 was. Keeping up with all of my bills and providing for my family all while trying to reinvent myself basically and finding a new line of work that I could be proud of and make enough money with (that also wasn't too far away from home.)

I almost had the perfect segway into a new position making like 20% more, getting a company car and everything and the 8th interview in the lady misinterpreted something I said and I didn't get the job lol. That pretty much monopolized my time and the rest of my PTO because I was interviewing already when I made the OP still- maybe 4 or 5 interviews in so after I didn't get that after I was so sure that I was going to land it I basically took a month and a half off to just breathe and plan my next move, I was looking for new jobs the whole time. I went on to strike a deal with a fellow hobbyist "friend" who had a gold and silver coin business that I worked in for a time before but I was never willing to fully quit my job and go in on it full time. This was something that I am truly passionate and so I had the chance to work in that area for nearly 5 months where I learned so much- I had the chance to familiarize myself with AI there as he had it completely tethered to his "backend" systems. I soaked it all in and had a very great time but the truth is that working for this man was truly very stressful and not very fun. He was the biggest micromanager ever and they monopolized my time. When I needed to take time off even if it was important they didn't really care about me or my family it was all just about the money lol pun intended. They also didn't have any benefits what so ever. I was pretty much dying to get out of there after they were literally crushing my spirit,  I did an amazing job there too and I worked my ass off  and my sales were through the roof, it was just in the end there we didn't exactly part as I would have hoped. Its a long story, but in the end the important thing is that I did what was best for me and my family. The best for me was finding yet another job, this time through a friend with a recommendation and for a very reputable company. They sent me out to the Midwest for training for a week, which was awesome! I made a lot of great friends along the way and after the training it was evident that this company truly cared about their employees and they had amazing benefits and everything! I went in there and broke the sales record in my second week for the fastest sale. I was there for a total of 3 months when I realized that I just hated it and had to find something better, something more aligned with my interests. That is when an opportunity literally landed in my lap with a phone call for a tech company that I had a keen interest in before and had actually looked at a position for 3 years prior. Well it turned out opporunity comes knocking like it usually does and so I ended up taking their interview offer and landing the job. Taking that positon back in the fall was a game changer for me! The benefits are the best I have ever had! I have the best boss and the best flexibility that I have ever had in a job. I have been working there now since then and I have to say that I really did find what I was looking for. I am now doing something I care about, making a difference, and I am even doing it alongside some of my family and even my friends now. I somehow managed to find exactly what I was looking for it seems, and I am so grateful to God for all that I have and all that he has shown me in the past year, especially the hard times because it has made me the person that I am!

Life really is incredible and if there is anything that it has taught me in the last 12 months it is this: Things are never as they appear, always read the fine print & ask all the questions you think of even if they sound stupid, you'll be thankful you had asked them and gained the clarity and fully understood. Don't every trust anyone for their word, make sure you have an agreement in writing, even if its a literal piece of paper you have them sign with some small description of contract. People always want to see a return on their investment but you have to watch out for signs of greed, aurgumentative personalities ( I mean always have to be right- egotistical), and micromanagerial tactics that are way over the top. If you ever find yourself in a situation that you are dealing with people like this and they are your boss - just get the heck out of there and find something better.) Some people in your life are only there because of something you share in common, whether that be a certain habit or a certain place you hang around with the same people etc etc. Sometimes you just have to break yourself free from situations and people like this because its most likely keeping you from growth by maintaining a constant state of either comfort of familiarity. In the pursuit of taking something you are passionate about and trying to turn this into a business first make sure that you consider that you may become so consumed with the end result after you turn your passion into a business that you may start to lose the passion for it in the first place, which to me doesn't seem worth it. Remove yourselves from such situations and allow yourself to breathe, find a better way that you can turn your passions into more lucrative opportunities on your own terms and don't let anyone hinder your growth in this stage.  I have learned that family is always the most important and they will always be there for you to lean on no matter what. They got through all of these hardships with me and as a result we are so much stronger! Thank you all for keeping up with this and for sharing your thoughts, I means a lot. I am in such a better place now and I am thankful for all that God has given me.
298  Other / Meta / Re: USE OF CHAT GPT-RULES on: February 04, 2024, 05:53:40 AM
Here's me imitating ChatGPT while answering your question:

Certainly! While its true that theymos has yet to make a definitive statement regarding the use of ChatGPT on the Bitcointalk forum, several moderators have expressed independent opinions on the issue. Such opinions include regarding ChatGPT-authored posts as spam, as non-conducive to the forum's overall environment, and even being contrary to the ethos of an online forum.

It is important to remember that viewpoints of the staff may change without warning, and you should always check their recent posts for policy updates. It is essential to conduct one's own research on such an issue before taking actions based on the information provided in this response.

I just made a post quoting Chat GPT and I don't even know if that was following the rules.
As long as you mention the source (as you did) and properly format it you shoulnd't have any issues.

Yes. Quoting ChatGPT is fine. Its only a problem when people try to pretend they are the ones who wrote the material & want to take credit for it.

For example, I would much rather see this:

...
CHAT GPT SAYS THE FOLLOWING after my below prompting to it after I searched the proccess of signing one's bitcoin address since I have never actually done so nor knew the potential risks assumed once done:

"Would signing that message in any way compomise the security of the private key? What are the drawbacks to doing this for ones security both of their keys and of their location?
ChatGPT
Signing a message with a Bitcoin address does not directly compromise the security of the private key, as the key itself is never exposed or transmitted during the signing or verification process. ...

Than this:

I think Bitcoin is a dynamic and evolving digital asset, subject to price fluctuations, regulatory developments, and technological advancements, as of my most recent knowledge update in January 2024.

Just something duplicitous about taking credit for stuff written by somebody/something else. It shouldn't be tolerated or we will soon be overrun by it.

Thank you M8 for spelling this out the way you did! I also liked the use of Chat GPT to not only show how robotic that response looks but also it displays more context in the analysis of what others on the forum are saying about this topic from the very beginning.

I would definitely have to agree that anyone trying to take credit for a compilation of what other people wrote put together by computers is just downright preposterous!
299  Economy / Gambling / Re: 👑 CoinRoyale.com - Original Bitcoin Casino | Trusted Since 2013 ✔️ on: February 04, 2024, 05:38:17 AM
Was just playing around on CoinRoyale and was able to double my money going back and forth from Roulette and Dice. Pretty fun play! Definitely beats watching whatever my girl is watching hahhah. I also was pleased to use the telegram bot and I placed a bet and won! Not too shabby. I am not really the gambling type and if I do it is never with large sums of money. This was taking $20 to $40. Woohoo! Lol.

Also I was having the same problem below, if you just go into your browser settings (because this image never went away for me) you just click the desktop version of the app checkbox if you are using Mobile and you will be good to go!

Can you show how it looks like when you access coinroyale on mobile browser with portrait mode?
When it's in portrait, this will show and I must rotate my mobile device to be able to access the platform. That's why I said that it would be good if I can access coinroyale in portrait mode using mobile device with Firefox mobile browser. Maybe as I explained before, it's because of the browser I used to access coinroyale. Anyway, it's still the same if I log in on coinroyale or not because it still show what you can see in the image below.
