281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BCC] Bitconnect Coin - Decentralized Cryptocurrency on: March 08, 2018, 10:28:00 PM
You can exchange your BCC tokens at the current rate of $142.47 USD per token.

This sounds like a scam.
282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Bounties (Altcoins) / Re: 🔶 YOLOdice's 1 Billionth Bet Celebration - LTC Competition! 🔶 on: March 08, 2018, 10:23:21 PM
Is this a competition or a giveaway?  If it's a competition, why are two people allowed to collude just so that they don't have to continue contributing to the prize pool and try to lock in a ev+ situation?

It appears to be a competition. And I've seen no rule against talking to your opponents to attempt to find mutually beneficial strategies.

Imagine this is a final table at a poker tournament.  How can two chipleaders who publicly declare that they will not face each other and then split the prizes equally at the end be deemed fair, let alone ethical?

Poker has rules against collusion and soft play. This wagering contest apparently doesn't.

Did you ever see the last 3 players in a poker tournament decide to split the top 3 prizes rather than playing until there was only one player left? Do you see at Pokerstars the "discuss a deal" button that is built into the software? I think you may not have picked the best example here.

They are quite literally stealing equity away from other players in the competition

Do you know what "stealing" means? I'm not stealing anything. I am reducing the amount that I expect to contribute to the prize pool. The money that I am attempting to avoid donating to the prize pool is already mine. In attempting to retain money that is already mine I am clearly not stealing anything.

and Yolodice's equity from increased betting as well.

Yolodice loses money with every LTC bet that is made during this contest. 100% of the profits go into the prize pool, and Yolodice still has to pay out rakeback and referral payments on every bet. By betting less I am actually increasing Yolodice's equity.

Not only does it affect this contest, but Ethan will be less interested in hosting similar competitions in the future because of the promotion being abused.

Ethan doesn't seem too concerned, and I'm sure he will speak up if he has a problem with this.

Second Edit:
The closest player who isn't chopping is at such a disadvantage and gets screwed the most.

The guy who comes 3rd gets the same whether 1st and 2nd tie or don't tie. If 1st and 2nd have agreed to stop betting then the guy in 3rd will find it easier to overtake them and come in 1st place.

Even just imagining how scenarios would play out (only one has to beat them, they could shift wagering to one account to secure first place instead of even distribution) provides disincentive to play further.  And then it trickles down from there.

We're clearly not sharing an account. We are 2 people with 2 accounts. If we were going to combine our money in an attempt to win, we should have done that from the start rather than splitting out effort into two equal parts.

A new comer that may have wanted to bet big to try for first place at the last stages now has to face the entire top team.

Beating two players who have bet 2k each is exactly as hard as beating one player who has bet 2k. You have to bet more than 2k to beat them in both cases.

The calculated equity will always be negated by the new equity point that the top team has to reach to secure, which means that all players would be forced to face negative expected value given the circumstances (again this is different from a traditional competition because the team could shift wagering since first place gives the most value).  If the expected equity is now negative instead of possibly positive, the new player's best outcome is just simply not go for first place anymore.

First play currently pays 48 LTC, and you need to wager 2700 LTC to get into 1st place. The 1% house edge means that you expect to lose 27 LTC wagering that much. Doesn't that mean it's +EV to join the game right now, especially if the top players have stopped playing?
283  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][CLAM] CLAMs, Proof-Of-Chain, Proof-Of-Working-Stake, a.k.a. "Clamcoin" on: March 08, 2018, 06:33:13 PM
Has our faucet ever crashed your wallet? (Just-Dice)  I remember the Bitcoin wallet dying once a week (this is possibly an exaggeration, but those were more stressful times it seems) and people freaking out from 4am-9am, but not once can I recall the CLAM wallet doing that ever.  (This happened so much in Bitcoin that there was a nickname for it "restart the just-dice *potato*" aka the computer or whatever).

I also didn't catch your response to this dooglus.

I don't remember the Bitcoin wallet or the CLAM wallet crashing, but it did used to get very slow, to the point where I had to keep making new ones and invalidating old deposit addresses. The dice server itself used to also get bogged down after a while, but I've worked on it a lot over the years and now it is more stable than ever. It runs for a month or two at a time now without any issues, and I usually only restart it to make changes to the software.

The site has used 8 different CLAM hot wallets. A new one was switched in on each of these dates:

I'm not sure when the faucet started tipping users instead of transferring on-chain, but you'll see that for whatever reason we've gone from needing 4 wallets in 2015 to 2 in 2016 to just 1 in 2017. I can't be sure this is related to the faucet dust, but I'd put money on it being the case. Note that it's been almost a year since we last had to switch to a new wallet, so something has definitely improved.

It would be nice if others gave back too.

Doog, we are doing the best we can.  It'd be nice if you'd continue to contribute as well rather than just recommending blackballing transactions.

My comment wasn't directed at you. I meant that if some other gambling site has found a solution to the problem it would be nice if they shared it by publishing patches in the github.

<said in a joking manner> I can't imagine my day becoming reduced to fucking Litecoin gambling contests..... what would of 2013 dooglus have said to 2018 dooglus?! Cheesy </said in a joking manner>  Tongue

I've always been a sucker for +EV promotions. 2013 dooglus was probably too busy practicing card counting on an old BTC blackjack site or playing video poker 18 hours a day trying to claim the +EV royal flush bonus to care about 2018 dooglus' dicing. Smiley

Anyway, it does not seem to be justifiable to try to have exactly the same amount wagered as someone else, because you are just a single satoshi away from getting the higher prize. However, your opponent could react too and outbid you. Maybe it could be a nice problem for  game theory - it's not a prisoner dilemma, but still :-)

If there are two clear leaders, and they both realize that there is nothing to be gained by betting any more, they could come to a gentleman's agreement to tie and split the top two prizes. Otherwise if they fight it out one or both of them will likely bust, and a large percentage of their losses will go to the other 19 winners. It's kind of a prisoner's dilemma in that our combined EV is best if we cooperate, but our individual EVs are best if we are the only one to defect. There's also the possibility that there will be future rounds of the same kind of game, and so there is value in maintaining reputation in this round.

It's an interesting situation, because even if we agree to split, as you say, either one could make a last minute bet to 'steal' 1st place from the other. But John Locke gave me his word, and that's good enough for me:

The situation is currently complicated by the hidden psonowal83 (3959) player who took 1st place last night while I slept:

My maths are next:
Investor 1: 5 x1
Investor 2: 1 x2
Investor 3: 1 x3
Bankroll = 5*1+1*2+1*3 = 10
Bankroll's shares: investor 1 - 50%, investor 2 - 20%, investor 3 - 30%.
Casino'a wins/losses divides among investors according to their shares.

Dividing the wins/losses among investors changes that 50/20/30 split. You have to recalculate the percentage after every bet.

With the current system that isn't necessary. If you have 10% of the bankroll before a bet, you still have 10% of the bankroll after the bet. The only time your percentage share changes is when people invest or divest.

I think history will prove that this coin was the single biggest factor in the success of crypto.

I think history would prove that you're an idiot. If it remembered who you were, that is.

I wonder if John is willing to share...

What happens if John and I end up both wagering the same at the top of the table? 1st and 2nd are supposed to get 40% and 20% of the prize pool - so would we both get 30%? Or how would it work?

Also, note:

So 1st place is currently 27.5 LTC.

I have another question:

It seems that some people get 30% of the house edge of the people they refer, and the people themselves can get 10% of the house edge if they place a few big bets. In combination, that's 40% of the house edge of those bets immediately going out. Since the site only takes 35% commission, and only on actual profits, not expected profits, isn't the house at some risk of insolvency? If the player gets lucky and wins a lot, the house makes nothing in commission but still has to pay out maybe 40% of the expected profit in rackback and referral fees. Even if the player runs true to form and loses exactly 1% of the amount they wager, the house still takes a loss on their play.

Seems to me it would be better for the house to charge commission per bet, not on net profit. That way the house isn't risking insolvency.

Correct. If they set certain options and not others, their bets will be visible from certain areas but not others.

But is there an option to hide on some of the leaderboard tables but not others? Both the lists I screenshotted are on the same page. Seems weird that he's hiding on one and not the other.

294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BCC] Bitconnect Coin - Decentralized Cryptocurrency on: March 07, 2018, 12:05:54 AM
Can you believe this guy from icoreview.site stating that lending coins are a Ponzi. They are not a Ponzi, though!! I've explained my reasoning. If lending is a Ponzi, then PoS staking must be also (but staking always inflates the supply whereas lending often doesn't and this profit can be used by the lending platform to get more users which increases the price - all coins need more users to increase the price so this doesn't mean it's a Ponzi). Most cryptocurrencies will also be ponzis as no wealth is generated unless profits are used to affect the coin price (which lending platforms can do as lending often generates profits for the company without stealing from anyone else).

I don't really understand how you still don't get it. Let me try again:

A Ponzi scheme is "a form of fraud in which belief in the success of a nonexistent enterprise is fostered by the payment of quick returns to the first investors from money invested by later investors".

In the case of BitConnect, the nonexistent enterprise was the trading bot. They claimed that they had a trading bot which made a profit whenever the price of BTC went up or down, but they didn't. It was a "nonexistent enterprise". They obfuscated things a little by using their own token for deposits and payouts, but it didn't change anything. They claimed that they would pay returns denominated in US dollars using their token. Since they had no source of revenue with which to pay these profits, it was bound to end eventually. The only way they could continue paying out would be if the price of their token continued to rise forever, which is impossible. For the token price to rise forever they would need an ever increasing amount of new investment in their token to continue pumping the price up. If these new investors ever stop investing the price of the token falls and they run into trouble paying out the promised returns. Remember that the returns are denominated in dollars, and so as the token price falls they need ever increasing numbers of these tokens to pay out the promised returns. Those returns get dumped on the market, dropping the token price further, meaning they need even more tokens to pay out the next guy, and it spirals ever downwards until the token is worth nothing and they need an infinite number of them to make the next payment.

On the other hand, Proof of Stake coins don't make any such promise of dollar denominated returns. The deal is something like this: "stake some coins to help secure the network, and the network will create new coins out of thin air for you as payment". This creation of new coins debases the money supply, causing downwards pressure on the token price. Everyone understands this, and it can continue indefinitely. At no point does anyone need to find massive amounts of the tokens to pay off some promised returns. The returns are created on demand. There is no need of new investment in order to be able to make the payouts. A proof of stake coin could continue indefinitely with no new investors. The price would tank, but that doesn't matter since there are no dollar denominated liabilities that have to be met.

Do you see the difference? BitConnect and other lending coins inevitably end up insolvent. Proof of Stake coins never do.

It doesn't make sense to sum those growth multipliers.

Obviously, and that is indeed the reason why I'm not summing them. I said "in absolute numbers" multiple times now.

These "absolute numbers" you're talking about are the expected profits, not the expected growth factors. They are different things.

Expected profits are "absolute numbers" - you can add them. Expected growths are multipliers - you can multiply them.

This likely means that the "real leverage" player does worse than the fixed offsite investor in the much more common case where the player wins and loses more equally.

Shouldn't "real leverage" still do better in that scenario if the players lose slightly more than they win as expected due to house edge?

I kind of ran out of steam at that point. I can't imagine that "real leverage" is better than "offsite investing" in every case. Shouldn't there be a trade-off?

Back to the example:

A has 10 onsite and 90 offsite.
C has 10 onsite with 10x "real" leverage.

Suppose a whale plays for a long period with 50% chance of winning each bet. All bets are the maximum, aiming to win 1% of the bankroll. The payout when he wins is 1.98x (1% house edge), and he wins and loses the same amount of bets (as he is expected to do, long term). Let's call the effective bankroll "B".

50% of the time the player wins 1% of the bankroll: B/100. When this happens, A's effective bankroll is multiplied by 99/100, and C's is multiplied by 90/100.

The other 50% of the time the player loses his stake. He's aiming to profit by B/100, with a payout multiplier of 1.98x, so he's risking and losing B/98. When this happens, A's effective bankroll is multiplied by 99/98, and C's is multiplied by 108/98.

Since the whale wins and loses the same number of bets, we can pair these bets. Each pair consists of one win and one loss.

For each pair, A's effective bankroll is multiplied by 99/100 and 99/98, for a net growth factor of 99/100 * 99/98 = 9801/9800 ~= 1.0001x

And C's effective bankroll is multiplied by 90/100 and 108/98, for a net growth factor of 90/100 * 108/98 = 9720 / 9800 ~= 0.9918x

And so we see that my intuition was correct, and that "real" leverage is worse than this "offsite investment" thing. The "offsite investment" has a (small but) positive expected bankroll growth whereas the "real leverage" expects to lose almost 1% of the bankroll for every pair of (1 win + 1 lose) bets.

Can you check where I'm going wrong with this? Here's how I looked at it:

Let BG and PG be two random variables, BG is the house's bankroll growth and PG is the player's bankroll growth (in absolute numbers). Then:

BG + PG = 0 (money only moves back and forth between the house and the player, so a loss for one is a gain for the other and vice versa)

When we talk about "growth", we're talking about multipliers, not deltas.

For example, if a player's bankroll grows from 10 to 11 while the house's bankroll shrinks from 10 to 9, the player's bankroll growth is 1.1x while the house's is 0.9x.

It doesn't make sense to sum those growth multipliers.

"Negative expected growth" means an expected multiplier of less than 1.

Is this a bug? In the 'largest bets' list a lot of the bets are by a "hidden" player, but in the "last 7 days" list I see the same bets with "Sadie" next to them. If Sadie wants to hide you should hide her name in both lists!

if the site makes more than 20 LTC profit since the start of the competition, the prize pool will increase!  In other words, we're giving away 100% of our LTC profits during this competition, with a minimum of 20 LTC!

What was the site's LTC profit at the start of the contest?

Edit: around 506.5 LTC I think:

tried several clients x32/x64 v1.4.17 on several Windows 7 x32/x34

Did you try on any real operating systems? Windows is mostly for playing games I think. I tried running bitcoind on Windows many years ago and found it didn't work very well at all.

Also I have strange issue that client want use claim.cfg with nodes

I'm not sure exactly what you're saying, but if you mean it won't load claim.cfg, it's not meant to. It loads "clam.conf" only. You have to spell it like that.

Tried put it in folder with wallet.dat or client exe file. After this I can go to console and write "addnode 220.118.173.91:31174 add"
and there was no error that this node exists. I(and client file) have full access to folders because client can rename bootstrap.dat to bootstrap.dat.old file.

Try renaming the config file to "clam.conf". It goes in the same place as the CLAM wallet.dat file and bootstrap.dat.
