This is sad, but why talk about a drowning which happened in 2012 in a 2015 story about new migrants? I am sure immigrants are making an extra effort to assimilate into America, but language is always a barrier.

You can even expect fresh regulation to limit Uber's reach. When rules and regulations regarding taxi services operators were drawn up, nobody imagined a service like Uber to pop up.

I don't understand arms race? Are you talking about the private sectors (i.e blackwater)?
No, I was talking about countries like India and Pakistan spending large amounts of money on their defence budgets. India's spending on defence is 2.5% of GDP, which is higher than China, UK and France. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_expenditures

So because we're not hitting the children quota, we will die out? Yeah right. Those rates are constantly changing over time, and are useless. Besides, the planet is overpopulated as it is.
Europe should probably be more open to immigration. Having a fertility rate of more than 2 is not the only solution. But for that, xenophobia has to be overcome.

European countries can have these luxurious welfare states and socialistic mentalities because they spend very little on military spending. I don't endorse the former but wish the US would do much less of the latter.
The US can afford to spend on its military. It saddens me when I see developing countries get into arms races spurred on by defence companies from the US/Europe. These countries are made to prioritize security over providing basic necessities to their citizens.

worthless emotive nonsense. all the increases in pollution over the next 20 years will come from third world countries who chop down forests and burn coal and generally don't give a shit about the green agenda while american and european levels will fall or stay the same. we are making life difficult for ourselves for no meaningful benefit and at the same time helping india and china overtake us economically because we are pussies and they aren't.
Third world countries argue for limiting emissions on a per capita basis, which the developed world doesn't agree to. It would be meaningless to have an absolute level on emissions without taking into account the population. You should understand that China and India are the 2 most populous countries in this world.

The EPA is concerned that the average shower, which lasts just eight minutes, uses 18 gallons of water, and has asked Americans to reduce their shower length by at least one minute.
He said the device seeks to get hotel guests to limit their showers to seven minutes as a start.
8 minutes doesn't seem like much. If the EPA feels that water usage in hotels is high, they should ask the hotels to treat the waste water and use it for gardening/flushing toilets etc. Focusing on reducing the shower time of guests seems too intrusive.

SEN. TOM COTTON: First, the goal of our policy must be clear: regime change in Iran. We cannot and will not be safe as long as Islamist despots rule in Iran. The policy of the United States should therefore be to support regime opponents and promote a constitutional government at peace with the United States, Israel and the world.
I wonder why the Senator is bringing religion into this? And the focus on protecting Israel's interests is unnecessary. This tendency of the US to meddle in the affairs of other nations has brought a lot of misery to this world.

They can't print dollars to repay loans, because if they started doing that all foreign holders of us debt would demand repayment within a few months of each other.
Debt holders won't be able to do this, because the date has a stated maturity period. The debt holders can, however, dump these bonds in secondary markets increasing the government's future borrowing costs. The average debt maturity of the government has shown an increasing trend recently.

But they haven't shut down bitcoin, almost makes you consider that the NSA has a back door into bitcoin, as has been speculated in the past.
I would argue that Bitcoin is too big for them to shutdown. They cannot explicitly try to shut down Bitcoin companies because they will be hauled over the coals in courts. The pressure would be subtle - difficulties in dealing with banks, cumbersome compliance procedures, extensive record-keeping requirements. If you look at the BitLicense being proposed, you know that times are going to change.

Paypal's loss could be Bitcoin's gain here. There is no central operator whom the US can bully into blacklisting Mega here.

The world trembles at the thought of what a Greek default could do to the world economy. So a default by the US cannot be imagined.
As long as the dollar remains the reserve currency of the world, the US has nothing to fear. They can print dollars to repay their loans. The process of a new currency becoming the world's reserve currency will be slow and gradual. Hopefully, politicians in the US will have enough time to correct their mistakes.

It doesn't really explain why the Greek tragedy could mean global disaster either? They could be the first domino, but otherwise I doubt they will cause a global disaster.
http://business.financialpost.com/2015/02/09/what-happens-if-greece-exits-the-eurozone-three-big-questions-explained/What happens if Greece exits the eurozone? - Even without a complete breakdown of the euro, a Greek exit will leave the European Central Bank holding billions of dollars of Greek debt and few options. The euro could face devaluation and leave Eurozone countries vulnerable to masses of investors retreating to safer shores.
- Furthermore, if Greece exits the Eurozone, investors will begin to view the weaker European economies – Cyprus, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, and possibly Italy – as risks. European countries will be forced to pay more to borrow money, and their equities will be tainted
- A slowdown in Europe could lead to further shocks to the world energy market and damage to global exports.

Muslim Opinion Polls ...
I stand humbled. But would like to add that the results of opinion polls can be twisted by asking leading questions. Moreover, there is a lot of resentment against America because of it supporting Israel. So questions asked about America result in a hostile response.
|

You do not prove the general with the exception. A large percentage of Muslims agree with the radicals such as ISIS. That can never be the case with Christianity. I would contest your assertion that a large percentage of Muslims agree with ISIS. It is possible that what you see is a very vocal minority. Even in Iraq/Syria, a large percentage of the population could be silent because they are terrified of ISIS. If we had democracies in these regions, we would get an idea of the thoughts of the majority. Unfortunately, we don't.

Planet Fitness and its transgender “no judgment zone” policy is reportedly resulting in gym membership cancellations by women concerned about their safety in locker rooms. As previously reported by the Inquisitr, a Midland Planet Fitness center revoked a woman’s membership after she complained about an individual with male genitalia who identifies as a female, in the ladies locker room.
This is a tough one for them to deal with. Will they stand firm in their decision when confronted with a wave of cancellations? Companies usually buckle when it hits them financially.
