OP, the site itself spells it "Mt. Gox", so that's what the name is. If you want to rename the site, pony up the cash and buy it. (Though I doubt MagicalTux is selling...)

The 1 identifies a string as a Bitcoin related address and isn't any harder to remember.
True, but I think it could be dropped for the same reason that people no longer start with "h t t p colon slash slash w w w dot" when they say the address of a web site.

Clever! I entered "1" and got the generation address from the genesis block. How come the firstbits string is all lower case? It's a lot harder to say and remember 1-uppercase B-lowercase C-3-uppercase D. Yes, I get that, but I was puzzled by the loss of information. I guess it's technically not the "first bits" of the address, since you lose some bits by lowercasing the address. A suggestion: make the decoded address a link to blockexplorer. Makes it easier to check that you got the right one. EDIT: Another thought... isn't the "1" at the beginning unnecessary since it's always the same? Drop it and the short version becomes even shorter.

And then about namecoin. For some reason i did not find a usable guide how to set it up on windows/or requirements for it. I installed it and when i try "namecoind.exe getnewaddress" i get: C:\Users\... ...\namecoin_win32>namecoind.exe getnewaddress error: couldn't connect to server
You need to start namecoind before you can send commands to it... Just run namecoind.exe in a command prompt and leave it running.

Get the IBAN number from your bank, click withdraw @ mtgox and follow the instructions.
New Zealand does not use IBAN.

So I let it run for about an hour and it has added transactions up to the 2nd of June, the balance also reflecting that amount. I had since withdrew these coins. When it is all caught up there should be 10 BTC in there, right now it reads that i have 21 BTC. I assume once it catches up to the point where i withdrew this that will go away, but what would happen if i try and sent 10 BTC to mtgox before it catches up to the 10 I should actually have.
Your transaction would be rejected by the network as a double-spend.

Anyone mind telling me how to update my client?
backup your wallet.dat file before you do anything once you install the new version you just have to replace that file look fot it in \AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin Incorrect. Updating the client does not overwrite the data directory. (Backing up is of course always a good idea though.)

To have a secure "savings account" wallet, I would suggest installing Bitcoin inside a VirtualBox VM. That way any viruses on the host computer can't access the wallet. You only need to boot up the VM when you want to spend coins, you can receive them while Bitcoin isn't running, and check the balance on blockexplorer.com.
Bullshit. That will protect your viruses against Bitcoin, not the other way around. Fuck you. Hey look, I can be a potty mouth too! Put a TrueCrypt drive inside the VM and I'd like to see the virus that gets at the wallet.dat...

I'm a bit surprised that the JPY isn't active on the market since Satoshi Nakamoto was Japanese himself. It's mostly all western currencies being used.
"Satoshi Nakamoto" is a pseudonym. He (or she?) is likely American or British.

Someone wants to send me 100$ for one of my Craigslist products.
How can I make this transaction safe/successful?
Give them the address displayed in the "Your Bitcoin Address" field. After you receive the payment, wait until the text next to it says "6 confirmations". (Should take about an hour.)

3. Also, how does mining work? Is it profitable? So far, my bitcoin program has gone through 63,000 blocks but my balance is still at 0.0
That's not mining, that's your client downloading the block chain, the distributed record of every transaction. The current block count is slightly over 130,000, once your client gets to that number you are up to date with the network.
