281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: So I mined 4.5 LTC via P2Pool.... on: April 09, 2013, 09:30:43 PM
I'm pretty sure you can create a raw tx but I've never done it before.
282  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 09, 2013, 09:10:31 PM
I'm running a small GPU on p2pool (V 11.2) for mining LTC at around 145 kh/s with cgminer (V 2.11.4).  Everything seems to be working but I noticed that instead of the usual 3 shares/minute on BTC mining, I'm getting about 120 shares/minute with LTC.  Basically the shares are flying past.

Is there a way to increase the share difficulty my miner sees to slow this down?

You have 120 shares/min because p2pool-11.2 is broken for LTC stratum.  Upgrade to p2pool git.

Ahhhh, so that's a change beyond 11.2?  I'll update my node when I get home and try that.
283  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: P2Pool Server List on: April 09, 2013, 08:57:20 PM
I have a naive question.  Why join some little p2pool server when I can just join p2pool directly?  I never got this.

Why pay fees to a third party on p2pool?  Why pay a donation?  What are they doing for you that a normal pool doesn't?
Just start your own p2pool node and mine away.

I've tried modifying the difficulty using this "username/xxxx+yyyy" syntax but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

All I wanted to do was reduce my share solution rate by about 1/40 of what it is right now.  I'm looking at the "u: xxx/m" field in cgminer to determine this.  It's currently showing about 120/m.

I left p2pool running and restarted my litecoind and and cgminer and got paid within an hour.  I think litecoind got messed up somehow.

Anybody else has problems currently?
run_p2pool started ok (loading all shares etc), Scryptminer Gui says it's finding thousands of shares, but no payment in over 9 hours (normally one per hour or more).

Stale rate 19.8% New work found all the time, but no payment, 42kh/s??

I also haven't been paid in about 9 hours myself.  LTC blocks seem have been solved during the night but no payouts for me.

Simple.  Don't click the fucking links you fucking morons.  Sheesh.

I'm guessing this means it needs a newer version of Python than the 2.5 mentioned in the OP (I'm on 2.5.1)

I upgraded to python 2.7 on the Ubuntu box I'm running p2pool on.  It didn't break anything else, if that's what you're worried about.
291  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [400GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 05, 2013, 02:51:29 PM
Once it gets past the "processing shares 1000...2000...3000..." and so on it's ready to mine.
I usually wait a little longer before mining but I don't think it matters.

...I'm getting a lot of messages about being sent transactions which have already been received...

I get this all the time when I first start and it seems like normal operation.
293  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: tormail is down... how long ? why? on: April 04, 2013, 03:20:06 PM
Sign up to privacybox.de, and upload your public GPG key. Now clueless people will be presented with a friendly text box they can write you messages with that are automatically encrypted with your own key. This is great for accepting MtGox codes and other financial vouchers.

All tormail is doing is routing mail to their dirt cheap VPS relays server2.hudsonvalleyhost.com who use postfix to further relay the mail to a torrified exchange server. I'm sure with enough resources somebody could timing attack and find that server if they really wanted, which doesn't matter if you encrypted everything but we all know maybe 3% of users are using encryption all the time.

You could set up your own private tormail like service with a VPS to run the exchange server or ssh torrified, and some sort of VPS on clearnet to send/receive the emails as a relay. Total cost: $9 vps + $9 relay, pay with bitcoins, configure everything through SSH/tor. Or just use this: https://www.awxcnx.de/mm-anon-email.htm

If you're keeping all your email traffic within the Tor universe I don't think it needs to be that complicated.

It gets complicated when you need to send emails to destinations on the broad internet.

295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LiteCoin Difficulty going down? Will the price drop? on: April 04, 2013, 12:55:48 AM
Why did it go up? What makes difficulty go up?

It tracks with hash rate.  More miners -> higher hash rate -> higher difficulty.
296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: LiteCoin Difficulty going down? Will the price drop? on: April 03, 2013, 08:35:55 PM
I'm confused, didn't Litecoin difficulty go up not down?

Well duh, of course it did.  People like me with piddly little GPU rigs are switching over to LTC mining in anticipation of losing all mining profitability.
BTW I'm now making 2x more BTC in the form of LTC than I was last week mining BTC directly because of the higher LTC/BTC valuation.  Cool
297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin pools on: April 03, 2013, 07:58:40 PM
Ah.  p2pool.org is not DDOS resistant.

You're only truly mining on p2pool if you're running your own p2pool node.  Then you're DDOS resistant.
298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin pools on: April 03, 2013, 06:55:04 PM
What list do you mean?  If you're referring to p2pool.info that's for BTC not LTC.  I don't think there's a site like that for LTC.

Anyway, I ended up waiting maybe 2 hours for the next block to be solved.  When the block was solved I was paid almost immediately and that's how I knew things were working.  Over the course of the next 24 hours my payout per block gradually increased since it's a PPLNS scheme.
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Litecoin pools on: April 03, 2013, 06:25:37 PM
people should use p2pool. inherently ddos-resistant, avoids centralization of power into the hands of pool operators, and a bunch of other nice things.
Yes, that's all fine and dandy, but not really profitable seeing as it pays nowhere near what PPS pools pay.(Unless you have like a billion mh/s.)

I'm actually making MORE than PPS using p2pool with my little 150 khs rig.  Averaging arout 1.7 LTC/day.
300  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: What is an established pool for beginners ? on: April 03, 2013, 05:34:59 PM
mtred if you want maximum profit (no fee PPS + tx fees!)

NOT MtRed if you want maximum reliability.
